Wonderful site for visiting some of the last remains of 7-8th century Bengal. Probably a place for worshipping, this place dates back to the reign of Ballalsen, the most popular and mighty king of the Sen dynasty in Bengal. Some of the artifacts on the brick body is still available, if looked out for carefully. An wonderful place to visit. The sunset on the backdrop of a historical place looks very serene.

A place forgotten. History that was, destroyed, then excavated. The thought of walking on grounds that were living, breathing civilization over a thousand years ago. Would have enjoyed a little more had it not been pouring when we went in August. Being off the beaten trail all you have is a plaque at the entrance and a caretaker who might show you around the place. Would be great to know more - what happened where? Where were the temples? Where was the fort? What did normal life look like? Where did the attacking armies approach from? Somewhat difficult to get to - either your own transport through very narrow interior streets, or one of the Toto’s from Iskcon Mayapur.

The place definitely holds a lot of historical significance but it's so Ill maintained. There's trash everywhere, the place is not kept clean at all. Ofcourse the people coming in are to be blamed but no supervision whatsoever. Skip-able, not amazing.

The Kolkata Circle of the Archaeological Survey of India excavated the mound, during 1982-1988, and “exposed huge brick structures and various antiquities datable to c. 10th to 12th cent. AD. The brick structure include shrines on sides and a massive construction within an enclosure.” The antiquities indicate the possibility of Buddhist affiliation. The structural complex covers nearly 13,000 m2. Experts opine the “stupa(vihara) of eighth/ ninth century was perhaps a seat of learning and pilgrimage up to the end of the 11th century.” It is about 25 km from Krishnanagar. The ASI has divided the site into two parts – the mound and the remains of a fort. Both the sites are identified as an ASI listed monument. Now it needed to be more security of this place. The place becomes the chat room and drinking place to some people. The historical place is going towards the end.

Ballal Dhipi is a historic archeological site on the eastern flood plain of the Hooghly in Nadia, West Bengal, a few kilometres east of Nabadwip. The remains date back to the 12th century AD and earlier. A 30-ft structure of solid terracotta bricks is spread over an area of 1,300 sq ft. with a floor made of lime and sand. It is named after Ballala Sena (1160-1179) of the Sena dynasty. Archaeologists have found traces of a temple complex. Historians differ on the origin of the structure. It may be the ruin of a Buddhist stupa or vihar, possibly built between the 11th and 13th centuries. It has similarities with Vikramshila Vihar, in Bihar and Shompur Vihar, in Rajshahi, Bangladesh. It may also be a part of the capital of the Sena dynasty.

This is in Mayapur. From here you can book lunch or dinner or can book a room for staying. And also in the same building lunch or dinner hall is present. At a time 1000 people can eat. The dining hall is on the ground floor and the booking counter is on the 1st floor. Before going to the dining hall need to submit your shoe. Just opposite of this building has one shoe submit room. It's free for submitting. Most of the buildings are required to submit shoes. So as per my opinion, 1st submit your shoe on here and then take any booking ticket and then move major visiting building like main mandir, goda Bhavan, etc.

This is a ruined sculpture made by Ballal Sena of Sena Dynasty almost 500 years ago. It was discovered in the year of 1982 and now it is under maintenance of Archeological Survey of India. It is situated at Bamunpukur which is very near to Iscon temple of Mayapur. If you're planning to visit Mayapur then please visit this place and witness this historical place.

This excavated place, historically significant and important, is left abandoned even without a guard. People are using this place to drink alcohol and other nuisance in open daylight, not only that garbage left by those people are everywhere inside the brick structure. Requesting proper authority to take proper care of this place.

An important archaeological site near Mayapur. It is named after the great king Ballal Sen who used to rule at that era in Bengal. The architecture indicates that it used to be a temple. Entry is free. Open from 10.00 a.m. upto sunset.

An important historical site of the Sena Dynasty (1070 -1230). Needs more excavation work to explore evidence of the mediaeval period of Bengal. An initiative from the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) is very much essential. Proper infrastructure development is an important part including road condition and accessibility is important to attract tourists.

It's a historical place. Which told about Bengal King Bollal Sen, Sen empire. Archeological department thought it was a 'Nutmandir' a worship place of God. There have 8th-9th centuries construction and again reconstructed in 12th century. Department found after mining many of clay statue & bronze statue like human, birds, animals, found cookware, mani kind of tools. It will be more effective if archeological department make office here to keep watching👀 this place and protect from unwanted attention.

Matter of suspense. It is a basement construction of a Hindu temple.Ballal Sen was fond of religion and literature. He had deep knowledge in Vedas, Smriti and Puranas. He was also a devotee of Tantric Hinduism. At the end of his life, he handed over the rulership to his son Lakshmana Sen and spent his last life practicing scriptures on the banks of the Ganges near Triveni. in 1202 Turkish military leader Ikhtiyar Uddin Muhammad bin Bakhtiyar Khalji attacked Bengal. A few days before this, Lakshmana Sen had established a temporary capital at Nadia. When Nadia was attacked by the Turks, the old king Lakshmana Sen marched forward with an army, but as there was not a sufficient number of soldiers in the palace, he set sail for East Bengal by boat. At that time this temple was under constructions and unable to start again.
