A
legendary
lake
excavated
by
the
emperor
Shah
Iltutmish
better
known
as
Altamus
in
Hindi
and
Urdu
language.
This
lake
was
the
only
source
of
fresh
water
in
this
area
of
Delhi.
In
sixteenth
century,
the
emperor
Iltutmish
was
advised
for
the
excavation
of
the
lake
by
his
dream,
when
the
holy
prophet
Muhammad
sallallahu
alaihi
wasallam
appeared
in
his
dream
and
was
coming
across
the
area
riding
a
horse.
The
hoof
of
his
horse
has
been
jammed
with
mud,
whereas
there
was
no
water
to
melt
the
hard
and
rocky
soil
of
the
area.
The
holy
prophet
then
addressed
to
the
emperor
to
dig
a
lake
in
this
area.
In
the
very
next
morning,
the
emperor
reached
at
the
indicated
place
and
found
astonishingly
that
the
footprint
of
the
prophet's
horse
was
still
visible
clearly
and
the
marked
spot
was
muddy.
He
went
to
the
source
of
the
mud
and
found
that
a
subtle
flow
of
water
was
emerging
from
the
centre
of
the
footprint.
Iltutmish
had
preserved
that
muddy
soil
as
a
pious
emblem
of
the
prophet
and
built
a
dome.
