Don't go there unless you want to surrounded by 50 million kids. It would be good but you can't look at anything because of all the kids. Adults are interested in science too. You need a day a week to just be able to go through without kids.

Great place to bring younger and older kids. We enjoyed it even as adults. Dedicated play area for under 5yo which my 3yo loved. Kept him entertained for a while. Definitely see the Planetarium and the Lightning room if you haven’t seen them before. Suggest booking ahead on a weekend or public holiday visit. We’ll definitely be back to see other things that are more suited to an older child.

We took kids aged 5, 7, 9, 12, 14 and they all had a great time. Didn't expect to stay as long as we did as they were having so much fun! Highly recommend for value for money and a great school holidays program. We also booked the Tycho goes to Mars show in the planetarium, the younger ones loved it! Definitely recommend booking in advance.

We thoroughly enjoyed the new Air Playground exhibition, our kids easily spent an hour just in there. The second floor Beyond Perception was also another hit with the kids, they were obsessed with the interactive audio/visual waves. Overall we spent about three hours in total here. Highly recommend catching the Air Palooza show at 12pm or 2pm, even for a grown up it was delightful to watch and I learned new things. Cafe is very busy around lunch time and lines are very long, there seems to only be one person serving at the counter and another one taking payment. Would be good if staff can work out a more efficient system to take and serve orders. Parking was also slightly confusing, as a Museum Member it wasn't clear to me if we could get free or discounted parking. Ended up paying the $5 flat rate day parking at the carpark. It wasn't until we left that I realised there's free unlimited parking on the street just outside (but with very few spots so it's up to luck if you find one). Definitely wasn't expecting such a crowd on a weekday even though it's school holidays, we arrived at 10:30am and the carpark was already nearly full.

Pretty disappointed in this place, especially considering the price of admission. To start with, the parking is horrible. Plenty of people circling or camping in the limited nearby parking. Once inside, the first impression was that it’s all looking a bit tired and worse for wear. It’s also just plain dirty. Second impression is that there’s actually not a huge amount to see and do, especially when you take into consideration the fact that several exhibits were out of order. The same is true for the overall facilities. This is the first and last time we make the trek here. ACMI or the Melbourne Museum are far better options.

Great place to bring the kids to expose them to science. The place is big enough to roam and the exhibits are interactive and not too wordy. I enjoyed my experience, and would recommend for adults too. Plenty of car parking (pay parking) available out the front.

Coming back after a few years, there are few changes but not much. Nonetheless, my growing kids have different perceptions and understanding than when they were much younger. In other words, kids different ages can still find the activities and knowledge fascinating. The place is rather small to cover various fields of science. Nonetheless, the planetarium programs and lightning shows are still great. There are playgrounds in the back, with the cafeteria and plenty of outdoor under the roof seats. The only downside is the food, that I wish they are fresh (I ordered a muffin that seems to be from few days ago).

What I like about Scienceworks is that its setting is well made for people at all ages. Anyone can learn and have fun at the same time. But the best thing about it is that it is interactive and it invites people to learn how Science actually works in our lives. I’ve been to different Scienceworks in other countries and this is smaller in size compared to the others but I find it pretty easy to walk around in it with family and friends and has enough stuff to amuse us. I love that it has a lot of interactive activities for people to try and learn many different types Science. For young kids, they can see the screen and follow simple instruction to grow plants, save water and recycle. Kids can learn how to do better things to the earth by doing fun activities and games. I love that kids can run and see the effective ways of running at the same time. The settings are intriguing and inviting. I love the outdoor and indoor play area. The indoor play area for kids is very educational as they can physically build with plastic bricks and turn and turn off light switches and etc. I enjoyed seeing my kids doing the entire wall of light switches as it took a half an hour and I could just sit and relaxed😉. More fun continues with wheelchair race and things like checking their heights and weights. A lot of physical activities were offered so at the end of the day, kids will be tired and have a good night sleep which is my ultimate goal.😎 We are museum members so the entry was free but it is generally free for kids and $15 for adults. The price is reasonable considering what it offers to everyone. The coffee from the cafe was good too. Highly recommend Scienceworks👍 I spent much more hours than expected so snack is a must for any family with young kids. Parking was easy even if I visited on weekend. It is a fixed fee for all day and pretty reasonable. Update from Jan 2024 There has been a new exhibition with $8 per person for Air Playground. A lot of air-related play settings and crafts available. Worth trying! My kids loved it👍

I visited with my 3 year old and 7 year old. There was more than enough to interest them and presented in a manner for the 7 year old to understand. Some exhibits were for older kids or adults only too. Great outdoor area to relax too and an amazing indoor play area for younger children. The planetarium was slightly boring but still worth it

Scienceworks is a great place to stop in and visit with the kids. There is a dedicated 0-5 years area called Ground Up, different areas dedicated to different sciences i.e. Sport Science, Computer Technology, Astrology etc. They have a dedicated area for pop up displays - but it was closed when we visited last Thursday. These different areas are more suited to those aged 5-12 years. Out the back of the main building are the pump house, small cafeteria and pop up coffee shop and kids playground. Cafeteria food was above average, reasonably priced, clean and quick service. In terms of accessibility, it is very easy to glide through with a pram and the walkways are wide for the most part, so you aren't constantly bumping into people. There is also a lift to access the upstairs part of the building. From the carpark there are a lot of flat footpaths. There are a few toilets around too and in the Ground Up section - specific parent change rooms for the little ones. Parking during the week was easy and not hard to find a spot in the carpark. Note - carpark costs $5 for all day. On the weekend I imagine it would be a lot harder as the carpark would only hold a few hundred, the streets are narrow and being next to Spotswood latest attraction - Grazeland, it might be a little tricky. This science museum is not the biggest I've been to, but it's worth the visit at least once. We will be back again when our kids are a little bigger.

The development of technology is amazing, and various experience equipment makes children forget that time is passing. Be sure to take the children to the scene, and I will come again.

Good day out with the kids. They have a toddler specific space that’s great and other areas that adults and other children will enjoy. One area is a little outdated but still enjoyable if it’s your first time. Cafe food was fresh but unfortunately there is limited dry sitting space and it rained on our visit. They have an amphitheatre with a shade cover but it’s inconvenient if you’re trying to sit there with a pram. Facilities on the bottom floor are good but limited on the second floor. Worth a visit.

I rarely write reviews, but here I can't hold back. It's basically a way smaller than expected museum, containing a few displays of which some work and some don't. Sometimes the information displayed is outdated, sometimes it's straight up vintage. Oh, don't forget to check out the telescope restoration (look into the workshop and read 2 small plaques) or the pumping station, where a barely visible short clip is displayed. To round off the whole experience, add 300 kids, screaming and running around the whole place. I would have asked for a refund if I didn't read about other visitors trying the same for the same reasons with no success. Should have gone to the Melbourne Museum a second time... Advice to the museum: it's impossible for the teachers to manage their classes with so many students. Only let in half of the amount. As a parent, I would be afraid of this place, as it would the perfect place to pick up a child and leave with anyone noticing it. As an adult, stay away from it. See the average occupation level in the picture. I have been in 20+ museums in my 2 month stay in Australia, and this one definitely is at the bottom.

Needs a little bit of shake up/ sparkle. Confined spaces, and dated. Good for 6 - 10 year ages. Planetarium and Lightning very good.

Really entertaining and interactive venue for the whole family. Enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff, although the presentations were targeted at primary school levels they were informative and enjoyable for much older guests as well. Very wide variety of exhibits including the old pumping station, the planetarium, sporting and futuristic interactive displays. Also very good value, despite paying for individual attractions beyond the basic entry fee it was still a cheap day out.

Such an awesome place to visit. Full of fun and knowledge to kids and adults as well. The place is huge, be prepared for a day full of fun. Purchase your tickets to enter the museum and walk through the ground d and 1st floor, where you get to see different science evolution and development. Kids get to play different games and practice certain science ideas, which are so much fun. Entry to the planetarium to watch certain short educational movies, you need to buy special entry tickets for that, for each movie you would like to watch. You can't re enter, and you need to select the time you will enter as well. Build Robotics and coding workshop and other workshops need to be pre purchased well in advance. Outdoor area with on-site small Cafe, playgrounds and lots of fun. You can bring your own snacks. Two different Parking areas, one you need to pay and the.other is free. A highly recommended place if you haven't already been to. Have fun..

Definitely a place to go if you have kids and try to find things for them to do (playground, interactive displays, picnic area, show and tell session). Else, it's a little entertaining for adults too. The physical ground size is big but compared to other science museums I've visited, it's not as many things to see. However of you haven't been, do give a visit.

This is a wonderful place for both kids and adults to gain new knowledge in a fun and interactive manner. I went during the school holidays and it was quite crowded with families. I noticed the kids being quite engaged with the educational exhibits. The lightning room show was literally electrifying. The presenter explained concepts clearly and got the audience enthusiastically involved. Latecomers will not be allowed into the lightning room after a show has started, so make sure you arrive on time! All types of students get free entry to Scienceworks, but you will have to purchase tickets for certain shows.

Just as great as when I visited as a child... My 1.5 year old had a brilliant time at the different areas. Super interesting for me and him. The Illuminate exhibition captured his attention and curiosity completely. Thanks Scienceworks! Also... Great range of gifts to buy for young and old!

Gift shop is super expensive so I suggest stopping into Kmart on the way home to buy the kids something similar at a fraction of the price. I mean, $49 for a medium size plush earth globe😱. And how about a boxed bingo game with a $19.99 price sticker visible on the box under a $45.99 price sticker but then a large red sign announcing them "on sale" for $30 really. That's not a good look.. I'd be wanting one for $19.99 in all honesty

ScienceWorks Museum is an absolute gem in the heart of Melbourne! I recently visited with my daughter, and I can confidently say that it was an unforgettable experience for both of us. From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted with a plethora of interactive and engaging exhibits that catered perfectly to young minds. My daughter was absolutely enthralled by the variety of fun activities available. The machines that analyze height, weight, jump, push, and pull were not only entertaining but also sneakily educational, teaching her about basic scientific concepts while she was having a blast. It was amazing to watch her learn while she played, and it's a testament to the museum's ability to make learning genuinely enjoyable. One highlight that had my daughter's eyes gleaming with excitement was the AR-based target hitting game. This interactive game not only tapped into her competitive spirit but also seamlessly integrated technology and learning. The thrill of aiming and hitting targets in an augmented reality environment was a big hit with her, and I must admit, even I had a great time participating! The overall atmosphere of ScienceWorks is incredibly welcoming and conducive to exploration. The hands-on exhibits allow kids to delve into science and technology in a way that textbooks simply can't replicate. The museum's dedication to making learning a dynamic and interactive adventure truly shines through. As a parent, witnessing my daughter's enthusiasm and eagerness to learn at ScienceWorks was heartwarming. The staff's friendliness and their willingness to explain concepts in an engaging manner were noteworthy as well. It's clear that they are passionate about what they do and genuinely care about fostering a love for science in young minds. In a world where screens often dominate kids' attention, ScienceWorks strikes the perfect balance by offering a place where education and entertainment coexist harmoniously. If you're looking for a place where your child can have a blast while also expanding their knowledge, ScienceWorks Museum in Spotswood is an absolute must-visit. My daughter and I can't wait to return for another day of learning and fun! Kudos to ScienceWorks for creating such a fantastic space for curious young minds. This museum undoubtedly deserves every one of its five stars!

Wow, Scienceworks Museum is a blast! 🚀 It's the perfect blend of fun and learning. Right from the interactive exhibits to the planetarium shows, there's something captivating for every age group. Kids can't get enough of the hands-on displays, and honestly, neither can us adults! It's a space where curiosity is ignited, and questions are celebrated. The staff are a delight, always enthusiastic and eager to explain the wonders of science. And if you get a chance, don’t miss the lightning room — what a spectacle! Whether you're a budding scientist or just keen to explore, Scienceworks offers a memorable experience. Can't wait for our next visit! 🔬🌌🤖

Lots of interesting and fun things to do for both kids and adults. There is a general area, separate areas for specific age groups, shows and areas that require additional tickets. I personally can't wait until my child is older and a little more independent so I can actually spend some time exploring for myself rather than chasing him. We'll definitely be returning several times before he's that old though. The general area was full of displays with different engagement modes. There were panels which were more look & read, ones with videos, some with buttons, fully interactive touch screens, and full-body physically interactive sections too. Highly recommend the under 5yo play area. Things are well-designed to intrigue little minds and introduce new concepts to them. Plus everything was just colourful and fun for all the kids. We arrived just as the museum was opening up on a Sunday and could see several families already lined up. There's a large paid parking area but also free street parking available. By the time we had parked, the museum had opened and people were entering to purchase tickets. It was quick to get in and there was a Christmas tree up with planet baubles and rockets which kept my toddler interested while we waited. Detail - under 5yo: There are 3D shapes to slot into holes, so kids had to think about how to twist and turn the shape to make it fit. There are tubes of air which blow colourful scarves up with adjustable wind speeds. The scarves can be attached to foam shapes with Velcro or tired around other things so they can play with the idea of weight/gravity. There is a "cubby house" with a vertical "conveyor belt" so you can deliver bricks and build them inside. There was also a wall where, depending on which of the plates you put down in what order, the wall changes colour in that order - introducing the concept of programming. There were cogs/gears which could be connected or disconnected and spun in groups - cause & effect, spatial recognition

Understandably due to covid a few activities were not in use. However, the current activities have really not changed in the last 8 years. I feel it could be improved greatly aesthetically as well as the activities they offer for children. A bit disappointing. We also attended the planetarium which was an excellent room, however the educational aspect (mini show) was very poorly written in my opinion. Needs improvement. Customer service was great. ??

After being stranded by the last minute cancellation of the grand prix, we needed to find ways to keep the kids entertained. The location is in an industrial wasteland easy to get to by train. It reminded me of my pilgrimage to the Miralles Igualada Cemetery but it was a much shorter walk from Spotswood station. The staff are great, kids love it and the planet - arium is a highlight, actually the reason we went.

Went here when I was a kid and loved it. We are due tom go back and see what’s changed from when I used to go. Always loved the little gadgets and science experiments you could play with when there. There used to be an outside spot as well where you could play with i think it was water experiments and native living, etc.. Will be interesting to see what’s new

I found science works great. A lot of work and planning must go into their exhibits. I’ve been there twice in the past and this still felt like a great experience. The new airplay exhibit was really awesome and catered to a massive range of ages. I was having as much fun as my 3 year old easily. The place is always so clean. My daughter ran into one of the exhibits while she had food and the staff member was so calm and friendly in approaching her and myself about it, so great. Even my 6month old had a great time with some things in the toddler exhibit. Lightning show was really engaging an fun, well presented by the male presenter.

Great place to take kids of all ages. The toddler room is terrific for the younger ones, and the other exhibits are great as they get a little older. A very good choice when thinking of things to do with the kids on a cold wet day.

fantastic place to be at for kids and adults. plenty to do and see. plenty of space outside to seat and relax while kids running around the playground area . only to watch out for is seagull which has sign saying no feed them which is understandable. beside that the light show was nice and very informative. will definitely return when feel like a buzz of fun.

Great place to take kids for whole day fun! Lots of things to see n try, fun activities for young learners and there is outdoor playgrounds area as well. Lots of information and knowledge for adults too! so it’s perfect fun for all family on weekend to go. If you one who keep curious and keen to know things this is great place to explore

Interesting, educational and fun experience for kids (of all ages). Exhibitions ranging from the history of technology, fitness, astronomy and more. Extra presentations include the lightning room (added ticket price), planetarium (extra ticket price) and, for a limited time, the future of robotics (also additional ticket price). With many playgrounds and a café, ScienceWorks is more directed for families and children.

4 Star rating as for Adults. For kids 5 Stars. My partner and I went together and we were pretty entertained. Did the lightening show and planetarium. Planetarium was the highlight. Definitely alot of cool stuff to look at in the general exhibition and very interactive. I would recommend it for adults if you don't mind being around alot of school kids.

The children enjoyed all of the hands on displays and especially getting to run against Cathy Freeman . We loved the planetarium. Our guide was fantastic.

Interesting science and tech museum of Victoria. With lots of interactive exhibits for children. Also temporary exhibitions and planetary.

I loved going there before lockdown, all the interactive activities were fun and I loved the planetarium and lightning room shows.

Children's play space is brilliant. Kept our 2 kids under 5 entertained for over an hour.

We were waiting for our pick up and the very nice people kept us sit inside for a while even though they were closing. This capped if a really nice day in one of the best science themed exhibitions. It was also my first planetarium attendance which I thought was excellent. Our 4yo grandson had a ball.

Really interesting for children. The presenter of the planetarium is really good, explains it well.

Fun day out. Though the experience is somewhat geared towards families with kids, we went as two adults and still had a great time. Some activities were more adult-appropriate (e.g. the pumping station tour, static displays and the planetarium) whilst others were definitely more for kids so beware what you book if there are no kids in your party. Best enjoyed by getting into the spirit and giving all the interactive displays a go! Would come back again!

Good for kids and adults or anyone wanting to learn and explore. Warning for those with sensory issues or taking someone with sensory issues, it's loud and crowded and noisy in almost every room (at least on school holidays) so noise cancelling headphones are suggested. The planetarium is relaxing and if you need to leave during any show you are welcome to do so but won't be able to come back in

This was so good we spent nearly the whole day there - only left because it was closing time. Loads of interactive displays which were even fun for adults, and the planetarium was spectacular! Only negative is you pretty much have to pay extra for additional exhibits if you want it to be a day affair.

Really fun little museum, it's compact but perfectly formed! Gorgeous little area to tire out the kiddies! Only took a star off because a staff member was a bit rude to my friend when she was asking a few questions.

The show describing the lightning is worth a watch. If you are an avid science lover and would like to read the facts in details then reaching early would be better. The place has a great cafe and clean toilets. The staffs are very nice and willing to engage.

Great spot even for adults on a date. The place is quite small and more aimed at kids, but thats what makes everything so accessible and easy to understand. We went on a weekday and was about to catch the planetarium show: Into the universe. Highly recommended! Best seats are in the back. Lots of great interactive exhibits, but our favourite areas were sportsworks and the second level. Plan ahead since the opening times and planetarium shows are quite limited. 3 hours would be about enough to explore everything.

attended the valentine's planetarium night, it was charming and entertaining. they put a lot of effort in to make it special. it was my partner and i's anniversary too so a very memorable night of nostalgia (partner and i grew up visiting scienceworks as youngsters) and beauty with a viewing of melbourne's night sky through their awesome technology. thank you to the staff, we will be back for your friday night show!

Nice museum. Smallish in size, but good to spend a couple of hours we went on Dino day with a 4 year old, so in addition to the normal exhibits, they had some special dinosaur themed activities. It was very busy, but still able to get a go at the hands on exhibits. The sports section is definitely the best, lots of activities to try.

Took a friend here who's never been, a young man 18 years old. Haven't been since my son was little (he's now 20). It's as much fun now as it was then, for young and old. Go for a visit and see for yourself!

Went to Science works to visit Planetarium which runs for 45 minutes. Please check online which shows you prefer as staff suggested different shows for entertaining different age groups ie. around pre-school or primary/ teens. The grounds are spacious with outdoor playground and cafe that serves sandwiches, focaccias, pies and hot chips with indoor and shaded outdoor seating area. There are plenty of interactive activities aimed at Primary aged kids, will return to visit the lightening room. $5 all day parking

It was a really enjoyable place. The kids had a lot of fun, they learnt a lot of things. The workshop was pretty fun as well. Parking was really easy, they only charge on a flat rate which is good. The restroom was clean, the staff was really helpful as well.

Great information, informative staff, and experiments happening through the day. The dome experience is something everyone should attend to. Again informative, and exciting. It was really bust though which made for difficulties in capicity for the children. There isn't much room between activities and well children will be children. Cafe is a little expensive, but you have the opportunity to take your own food and drink. The shop was full of take home experiences. Great day out

We loved science works, our 7yr old son had a blast! The planetarium is a must see for any astronomy fan! And of course the gift shop has souvenirs of all ranges.

Scienceworks is a great place to visit. The attractions change periodically, the glow show is not to be missed and there are many engaging and interactive exhibits.

Great for kids! Couldn't get mine to leave and we didn't even get to see the whole place cos they got caught up playing in the sports area. Lightning show was very entertaining and engaging for the kids. The planetarium show was a little long but my older boy enjoyed it because he is into planets. Younger son and wife got a really good nap.

I would say this is one of the great places for your kids, offering a perfect day out with your family. Not only will the kids enjoy themselves, but the tour will also take you down memory lane, allowing you to reminisce about things from your own childhood. I am certain that your kids will become more interested in science and history after visiting this place. They have designed the activities in such a way that every member of the family can enjoy them. Additionally, they are running a few shows. My kid thoroughly enjoyed the glow show, which was highly interactive and informative. The presenter did an excellent job. I would not recommend the planetarium show for children under a certain age, as they might find it boring. However, I did find the gift shop a bit expensive, and it would be great if they offered more souvenirs at reasonable price.
