An evening filled with amazing memories! My first experience at the renowned Arts Centre Melbourne and boy was it great. The hall was huge and magnificent with an amazing audio system. The Phantom of the Opera is a classic for a reason. From it's grand sets, brilliant singing and beautiful acting it was a night to remember :)

This is one of Melbourne’s amazing place! I love this gallery, my favourite I have ever been to. Lots to see from a huge variety of periods, even if there's an exhibition on the gallery still shows a lot of their own collection which is good if you want to see it!! Plenty of workers so guards and people to answer questions as you go. Tours as well, areas to clock your belongings and s great gift shop !!! Love this place definitely recommend :-)

Came for an opera show, an OK theatre. Stage and hall is a classic (smaller size). The seating design is a little dated with no exit aisles, so if you have a middle seat, its a looong way to either end. Many people to get through in and out. Sound, lighting and stage are all good. The show was very enjoyable.

Amazing venue for classical music. Staff are friendly and helpful. Not a tinge of pomposity which for an music hall is rare. The MSO are also AMAZING they deserve five stars of their own

What an institution with its 1980's decor of brass and velvet!! Visit the Australian music vault or attend a performance at the State Theatre or the Playhouse. I remember seeing Anything Goes here and thinking it was one of the greatest musical theatre productions things I had ever seen with Geraldine Turner and a very young Todd McKenny.

Multi-functional building- the Arts Centre Melbourne 🎭 houses many different performance areas including the Playhouse, Hammer Hall, State Theatre and Australian Music Vault areas. Lots of clean toilets available on each level and near each theatre, plus bars and snack areas. There are always a variety of shows available to see, everything from comedy , theatre, choirs, ballet, circus......

Excellent facility and incredible show - Circus 1903. You get a great view from almost every seat (as long as the person seated in front of you isn't too tall and who leans forward!) Not a lot more to say, it's a great place.

More than pieces of art, I find this place exhibiting objects from foreign national to show their culture. I see a great difference between this and the art gallery in Adelaide. This place was busy and crowded even though it’s a weekday. A lot of people get here for the great collection of restaurants they have. Multiple stories and many sub routes to take to get to different displays.

Had the most unexpected fun evening in Melbourne at the Arts Centre. Walking past after dinner and noticed it was free entry until 9pm on this Saturday night. The tunes were pumping, the bars and cafes were open, and we had a great time wandering around the exhibits. Such a great way to enjoy an evening.

Fantastic place to enjoy theatre or orchestra. Only problem is parking, especially if you are a person with special needs. Using public transport is very highly recommended.

A beautiful place that house some fantastic experiences. I was there recently for the Victorian Community History Awards, put together by the Royal Historical Society and the Public Records Office of Victoria. An annual event with money prizes that celebrates people's history contributions to Victoria. So, you can host events here, so a show, or go to the theater. I believe Phantom of the Opera will be showing in a couple months. I'll be getting tickets to that! There is also parking on site. Or it is VERY close to Flinders station.

I had the immense pleasure of watching the captivating play "Bloom" at this wonderful theatre, and I must say, the experience was absolutely enchanting from start to finish. The moment I stepped into the theatre, I was struck by the inviting atmosphere that embraced me. The ambiance was perfectly set, creating an immersive environment that transported me right into the heart of the story. The attention to detail in crafting the surroundings truly added an extra layer of magic to the entire experience. The sound design was impeccable. Every note, every whisper, and every sound effect resonated beautifully throughout the space, enhancing the emotional depth of the play. The seamless integration of sound truly contributed to the overall atmosphere and made the performance all the more impactful. The lighting was a masterpiece in itself. The interplay of light and shadow, the way it highlighted pivotal moments, and the subtle shifts in color that mirrored the changing moods of the play were simply awe-inspiring. The lighting added a layer of visual poetry that elevated the storytelling to new heights. And of course, a hearty round of applause for the talented cast and the hardworking staff. The dedication and passion they poured into this production were evident in every scene, every line, and every gesture. The performances were top-notch, each actor bringing their characters to life with authenticity and emotion. Kudos to the staff for their professionalism and the seamless execution of the entire event. In conclusion, "Bloom" is a gem of a play, and this theatre provides the perfect canvas for it to shine. I am genuinely grateful for the opportunity to have witnessed such a captivating performance in this amazing venue. To the entire team behind the scenes and the talented cast, congratulations on a job well done! I eagerly look forward to future productions and more magical evenings at this remarkable theatre.

Had so much fun at the concert of one and only Tommy Emmanuel. Best if the distance from the car park to the venue is little closer but other than that everything is good - no complains!

We went here on some tour with uni, so we didn't watch any performances but the staff showed us around the building. (There's more to it than it seems!) The staff were excellent, they explained well, took questions and were generally very nice, the building itself is very clean, there was no rubbish at all!

I work as a carer and often have a lot of trouble getting my client around in his wheelchair, however last night we went to watch The Sleeping Beauty presented by The Australian Conservatoire of Ballet and were treated with some of the best service I've ever experienced. The usher, Caroline, went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and happy and was just always genuinely kind which can unfortunately be a rarity. We will definitely be coming back! Thank you again Caroline.

(Translated by Google) The place I studied before was relatively close to Sydney, so I often went to the Sydney Opera House; I only visited Melbourne a few times after graduation; but I missed the Art Center in Melbourne. During the first visit, I participated in the guided tour of Art Center. Fortunately, I was the only one with a meal. The guided teacher explained the details of the venue in detail, and even had the opportunity to see the evening show in the back field. "Mrs. Butterfly" "Rehearsal." In the past, scenes that could often only be seen through the screen felt completely different when sitting in the front row of the scene. The fame of this center may not be as well-known globally as the Sydney Opera House, but the construction of the center is not limited to the special shell shape of the Sydney Opera House during construction. The transmission and resonance parts are slightly better than the Sydney Opera House. . In addition, the average fare is more cost-effective; the visitor portion is not as crowded as the Sydney Opera House; so overall, my own feeling is that the consumer experience at the Victorian Arts Centre will be more comfortable than the Sydney Opera House ( The above is just a personal opinion; not for those who have not visited the Sydney Opera House). Kylie Ann Minogue encountered a small exhibition during a visit to the locality many years after graduating. The exhibition exhibited various Kylie costumes, painted manuscripts and other exhibits from the past performances. It was very exquisite.

So different to the other theatres in Melbourne. It certainly doesn't have the charm of the older theatre's, but the facility is wonderful none the less. It is very comfortable and the theatre we were in was incredibly well fitted out. The acoustics were great, the seating was really comfy and there was plenty of room between the rows. No squashed knees. I thought it was a great building for the Art Centre and the Tower (like the Eiffel tower in Paris) makes a wonderful sight in the city scape. Really good design layout inside and beautifully decorated. Location is perfect as close to South Bank, parks and the Casino. Think Melbourne city did good when they built this for their performing Arts Centre.

An excellent venue for classical music. Attended a performance by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring. An absolutely amazing performance coupled with great acoustics. Could improve on their menu offerings and size of their lavatories, but for the whole music experience, amazing.

If you’re visiting Melbourne a show at the Arts Centre is a must do. Try for seats at the front of the stalls or a box seat. Drinks at the bar pre show are well priced. Also a free cloakroom and very friendly staff.

It's massive from inside! I had no idea there's so many underground levels and showrooms in this place, it's just mesmerising. Lots of staff to guide you through the gates, beautiful black and red interior design, it's got a cafe inside as well which operates during opening hours of the place. You'll see a lot of elderly people here, no surprise, the shows are expensive and not something that most young people can afford.

Such a lovely place! Plenty of things to eat and drink in the Arts Center without much wait, but all around as well as it’s very close to Flinders. The Playhouse theatre is beautiful, with an classic style, a great Melbourne attraction. I watched a Roald Dahl play, and loved it! The actors were lots of fun! This is a very busy place, with hundreds of people coming and going for the shows and the restaurants. Take a stroll outside and under the bridge for a few more dinner choices and a beautiful view of the Yarra River.

Review C/- my parents who went to see "Chicago" ... The issue they both had being older citizens is their seats were on the lower floor (great seats) so getting the escalator down was fine but there was NO escalator getting back up! Alot of people were struggling to walk the many steps back up and given the day was extremely hot - they were exhausted. Otherwise facilities / theatre was great

The interior of the center is lovely and modern. The bar was located right next to the entrance. Fantastic view from anywhere in the State Theatre. Lovely red carpet all around the center. The Arts Centre itself is well managed, comfortable and a very good venue for such performances.

Why book online when you cannot get the vacant seats. Tried to book what are vacant seats because we want 2 not 3 unable to book because it leaves a vacant seat. yet others are able to book a single seat. Forget this you are in the business of selling seats not being a dictorship.

Beautiful place and a great performance. Issue was I had to use the toilet and upon returning they inform me that I am not permitted to go back to my seat because that would mean walking in front of people. So I had to go to the very back to the worst seats in the house for the remaining hour of the performance and my friends were wondering where I was. Beautiful place but this really impacted my experience negatively

A beautiful theatre that has been well maintained. We saw Chicago here at the State Theatre. The only downsides were the parking accessibility after hours, they lock the main access to the carpark and the alternative car park entrance is difficult to find, signage needs to be improved. Parking is also very expensive in comparison to other parks in the city. Staff are lovely to deal with and will definitely come back to see a show here.

We attended the carols by candlelight tonight and while the arts center Melbourne hosts the event, your parking facilities do not cater for those with families with young children and prams. The elevator closes at 5pm so we had to carry a pram with child up 3 flights of stairs. At 11pm after the event, the lift access is also closed advising to go to the arts center foyer which was also closed advising to use NGV stairs. No signs, no notification, nothing. Too bad for those who are disabled and not able to use stairs. A disgraceful and poor form from the arts center when holding a large event like a family friendly event and not advising of loss of lift access for those with disabilities and prams. Shame on you!

Stage Door only accessible down a long dark flight of steps. The only other way is a long way round circling the National Gallery. Then when you are at the Stage Door it is up more steps, so not wheelchair accessible. All staff must now enter this way. Backstage, staff are several floors underground, extremely unhealthy in this era. When there is a break there is only one tiny underground cafe, now only serving takeaway. To where? Protagonist is often closed during a break, and you have to surface to all weathers.. Staff culture can be intimidating if you do n`t fit the idea of norm. There can be some support from a Supervisor, but it is the luck of the draw. No Green Room, unlike traditional theatres, such as the Princess. Front of House is OK. However a fire drill is scary, as the audience are also underground and often elderly. I hear there is a plan for more lifts, but they cannot be used in a fire.

BIG shoutout to Andrew The Fabulous for safely holding my prescription sunnies that I left🤪 after the incredible Anna K show. I also wish to thank the beautiful theatre cleaners for handing my sunnies to Security. Finally, to all the patrons, thanks for not stepping on my sunglasses 😎

The best chairs! They are so comfortable and all the shows that house here are incredible!! I’m see a live concert orchestration of Half Blood Prince at Hamer Hall on the 12th March! I’m sure it’s going to be incredible! All the staff are so lovely too! Thank you so much for your service! See you on the 12th☺️☺️

The Arts Centre’s famous spiral is just the tip of an enormous network of underground passages, archives, performance spaces, dressing rooms and offices, extending five floors underground. The friendly host will tell you stories of famous performers who have tread the boards of the Arts Centre’s theatres since it opened in 1984, and tales of backstage mishaps and urban legends from over the years. They’ll also give you an insight into the technical aspects of putting on large-scale shows at the State Theatre, which seats 2,079 people and has a ceiling covered with 75,000 tiny brass domes. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to glimpse sets being constructed for upcoming productions. On our tour a guy had prearranged for some extra excitement by proposing to his partner on the main stage. Wonderful architecture. However seating could be angled a bit more to see the stage better, other than that, beautiful venue that has hosted international superstar musicians and our local aunty donna boys

The ballet last night was beautiful in dance; colourful costumes; fun in parts; especially loved seeing so many small children dance with precision and enjoyment! Music was excellent as well. Thanks to all.

The Arts centre arena has afew different theatres in one. Parking was available... toilets are packed if theres 3 theatres having concerts around the same time still was able to find one without a line up. Wasnt stressful getting to the theatre. Sound is amazing. Be mindful parking around the theatre is 2 hrs and further away 3hr parking.

Hammer Hall may be a bit difficult to find on the first visit if you don’t look it up too closely first, but it’s actually a great location walking distance from Flinders Street Station train and trams along St Kilda Road. The performance quality of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 performance was amazing and with the affordable memberships, I’m hooked in to support them and try a Mozart session next! The views were great from everywhere, food, drinks and toilets were easily accessed and it’s a different experience of great talent well worth visiting!

Great theatre, quite comfortable seats and easy to move around. We saw David Sedaris and sat in G47. This is towards the back and has great accessibility if you are looking for this. Our view of the stage was fine, despite being far back. David is a very engaging performer so we did not feel like we were in the back at all. We grabbed drinks on the way in and the bar staff were quick and friendly. All ushers were efficient and friendly too.

Beautiful and classy interior space. Good location for people taking public transport or self driving with plenty of parking space, tasty food... (Please add a sign to warn disadvantaged people for many steps when going through the emergency doors)
