This restaurant has been around for long time but have managed to keep it on the down low. They are on the high end of Chinese food restaurant, the kind where they change your plate after every dish. Food are excellent especially their dry fried beef and Peking duck. The beef is very addictive and unique. Everything else is excellent but very pricey. Food - 8 Service - 10 Vibe - 10 Price - $$$$

Bamboo House is home to the best Peking Duck in Melbourne! Amazing experience, the staff are attentive and accommodating, all the dishes are delicious, and the restaurant caters for families too. This place will be my regular from now on!

They were very accommodating for our dietary requirements as my mum wouldn't eat fish and pork and duck. So we had the banquet menu and had some really good food. The service was really good as well.

Many would have thought this is a very expensive restaurant targeting mainly the Whites. On the contrary, the Chinese food is very authentic and good. Portion size is above average. Price is acceptable for this kind of Chinese restaurant setting.

If you want cheap, cheerful Chinese food this not the place. It’s a fine dining experience specialising in Cantonese food. The steamed duck with Chinese vegetables & beef in black bean sauce were perfect and worth the expense. Full attentiveness by the serving staff was a feature. It was a little noisy because the gentleman at the next table had forgotten how to behave and use his inside voice.

Went there with friends and had a fantastic dinner! Tea smoked duck with the buns were fantastic! Prawns with veg and mushrooms were cooked to perfection. Service is great! Most importantly, it kept to the old school high class Cantonese Restaurant Service and taste in food. Highly recommended but be aware prices ain't cheap. We enjoyed an outstanding meal with lovely service. We reserved a table which would be recommended as this restaurant is very popular. The cost is proportionate to the quality of the food, but perfectly reasonable.

Year after year we stop in at this iconic restaurant..... it’s always comfortably busy and the vibe is fun fun fun. The food is the freshest and hottest with decent quantities and a magnificent range . Peking duck never fails and the old fashioned birds nest and a crunch spring roll just do it....... fancy doesn’t always have to be the king. Decent and fair priced wine list, but the biggest secret is the great smiling and fun staff - Jimmy and Anna - you made the night all that more special, thank you.

We went to Bamboo House because a friend recommended us to go and I have to say that the food and service was amazing Oysters, fish and duck was all sensational The only disappointment was we were too full to try the lamb which apparently is fantastic as well. Looks like we will have to come back again and try that next time. Thank you for looking after us Jimmy and Ann.

If you aren’t really familiar with Chinese cuisine, you’ll enjoy it. If you know Chinese and Cantonese food, you may admire (mockingly) how they get business... Three stars because our waiter was polite, professional and timely. Will not return. Too sweet, and they served ketchup with the Sichuan duck we preordered. I have no words.

Fine dining Chinese at a reasonable price. All dishes had different flavours and each stood out on its own. Service was as good as the food. Clean plates were provided after each round, loved it. Overall our dining experience was quite good.

Food plentiful but rather bland was a little disappointed. Staff very friendly and attenuative, service was good. Unfortunately we were booked in for their first seating's so was very conscious of the time frame no time for relaxing over a drink at the end of the meal. No fault of the restaurant but would never book again where they have two seating's

Haven’t been to this place for ages! Still good, tasty and delicious! I’ve been told to try their Peking duck and lobster omelette and I did! The Peking duck definitely one of the best that I’ve tried in the city. The lobster omelette is a must to try. We’ve ordered more food but I was too hungry to take all the photos. They’ve got good selection of wines. Most of the customers have been coming here for years. The service was fantastic. Highly recommended to book. This place would be great for a birthday or any family lunch/dinner. Enjoy :)

The food at Bamboo House was impressive except for the wontons spending too long the deep fryer! Service could have been a lot sharper and more favourable if not so detached. Also, a restaurant of this calibre should be pouring the wine at the table. The beer was poured however not the wine, it could be anything!

Everything is pretty good at this restaurant - quality of food, service and internal atmosphere. I gave it 4 star because it is towards the pricey side and the entrée portion is relatively small for the price compared with other Chinese restaurants of the same grade nearby. The size of the main is fine.

What a terrific night and sensational meal. So happy we went to bamboo house. The minute you walk in the door you realize it is classy authentic Cantonese restaurant. We had a great selection of dumplings, some super tasty spicy dishes, tender and succulent pork, and the mandarin chicken was just Devine. We really enjoyed the Chinese broccoli dish as well. We found the staff really attentive, and had drinks orders the minute we sat down, and continued attention if we would like additionals, and how was the food. So glad we found the restaurant, and the reviews don’t lie. The meal and drinks we found reasonable for the experience of dining.

Great food. Not too sweet or salty. Balance of flavour was perfect. Seafood wasn’t over cooked. Star of the evening definitely Peking duck.

I have been eating here for over 20 years. The food is fantastic as to the service. Oysters, Scallops, Dumplings, Calamari and Duck. If there is room for dessert there are also a few favourites. The place is run by Anne who needs no introduction. You feel at home the minute you enter to the minute you leave. The wine list is extensive and whether you are looking for a family affair, business or couples location, the different break off rooms cater for all. Great location, great food, great service. Anyone i have taken or introduced keeps returning.

Came here for my dad’s 60th as my dad is a loyal customer to the restaurant. Not only was the food AMAZING but the service was as well. We ordered soooo many things but the highlights were the scallops with 3 sauces, the san Choi boa and the fact that Anne surprised dad for my birthday with ice cream and strawberries ! Anne is such a lovely person, loved the service and the food. Our waitress for the evening was a young girl named Gillian who was such a sweetheart !!! 1000/10 🥰😍🥰😍

We dined here last night and the word that sums up Bamboo House is ‘Phenomenal’! You can tell immediately why this Restaurant has been operating for nearly 40 years! We took up the Banquet Entertainment option and what a gastronomical treat it was. Staff were attentive, yet not intrusive. Each course moved at a satisfactory pace as in between each dish served there was enough of a pause before commencing the next. The Eye Fillet dish was melt in the mouth! 😋 It was simply the best and most delicious Chinese cuisine I’ve ever eaten and we look forward to return visits for many years to come! 谢谢

We were looking for a Chinese restaurant, so did our homework as there are so many to chose from. Unfortunately we found the menu fairly limited and quite expensive compared to other meals we’ve eaten during our stay in Melbourne. The two dishes we ordered (chicken with vegetables and chicken with bell (green) peppers) were not only ‘beige’ to the eye but also on the tastebuds. I resorted to using the soy sauce on the table to add some much needed flavour! Also, although I love garlic there was way too much (in slices) mixed in with the meals. Unfortunately there was an issue with the bill as the price for ‘fried’ rice was on the line above, not where you would expect to see it. When we queried it, we were facetiously asked if we thought it was free? No we thought it was $3 along with the steamed rice, as that appeared to be the price for both of them as per the way the menu is printed. Along with two glasses of wine the total cost was $100; this was not a $100 meal in our opinion.

Best peking duck I have had in Melbourne! My partner and I ordered a whole duck and we were stuffed - great value for money and delicious. Staff were very attentive and had an all round great experience. Only downfall was probably a fish dish we ordered which was quite bland.

The Peking duck: it's delicious. Crispy skin served through each pancake. It's only pancakes though, inline some other restaurants that do various courses with the meat. We did not have to pre-order the duck.

I’ve been a loyal bamboo house customer for about 15 years. Last night was my first time back for about a year... (kids happened). I hyped up the Peking duck to my girlfriends (also mums - lol u know how hard it is for us all to get out?) and was really looking forward to it. We ordered two ducks and the first was chewy and luke warm. The second was hot but definitely no where near as good as I remember. The duck meat ratio in each wrapper was overwhelming. The service was down right rude and we got the hand gesture (“don’t bother me, I’m busy” kind of gesture) multiple times - when asking for a menu, when asking to order... It wasn’t just the one waiter either. We got served attitude from multiple waiters. Disappointing service. And a steep bill to pay at the end. Won’t be coming back. You’ve lost me bamboo house.

First time dining there. We ordered one of the banquets for our party of 4. Our friends lived in Hong Kong for years and were impressed as we were. Every dish was exceptionally delicious. The Peking duck was one of the best I’ve ever tasted. Service was welcoming, proceed, efficient and gracious. One of the wait staff holds the door open for all guests leaving while also thanking them. That is rare to see but is such a hospitable gesture.

I recently dined at Bamboo House and was extremely disappointed with the experience. The service was slow and inattentive, and the staff seemed uninterested in providing a pleasant dining experience. The food was bland and lacked any real flavor, and the portion sizes were small for the high prices. The atmosphere was also lacking, with outdated decor and a generally uninviting ambiance. Overall, I would not recommend Bamboo House to anyone looking for a satisfying dining experience.
