We bought coffee and a sandwich in the morning for $12 but we didn’t eat the sandwich. We came back 2 hours later for lunch. We ordered more food and drink and we told the staff we are also having the sandwich we bought in the morning. Guess what? They stopped us in the middle of the lunch and say you can’t eat it here. They charge us for bringing outside food. So they earned an extra $5 and this one star review.

Really good food and service. Bit of a wait to get in on a Sunday morning (bout 20 min), the floor manageress was in constant communication with customers out the front which I found was great service even before we entered. Table of 6, seated and attentive staff all the was through the dining experience. Decided to try this Restaurant/Cafe due to the great reviews online, and wasn't disappointed at all. Highly recommended and will be coming back soon. Big shout out to all stall including behind the scenes, a big thanks and keep up the great work

Had brunch at this famous cafe in Melbourne CBD. Staff members were really welcoming. Food was great with nice presentation and cooked to perfection. Coffee was just alright I would say, with okay presentation and taste. I had one single origin filter where there was no information card given for the coffee. It didn't feel like a specialty coffee shop where enough care is been given for presenting a cup of coffee.

It was a busy Wed morning! The food was great and place was buzzing. Loved the blue swimmer crab scrambled eggs on croissant! The toasty was also delish and the pancakes were savoury!

The food was good, the breakfast platter had a bit of everything which I loved. Definitely overpriced for the portion sizes. I think it's good to try if you haven't been but probably not a regular place to go.

Delicious and beautifully presented. The service is attentive. The coffee is also amazing as well. We ordered the salmon corn fritters and the lobster Benny. It was phenomenal. They do the all day brunch menu on a weekend which is good.

Delicious breakfast board with avocado poached egg and a bhaji. The runny egg on a board made me nervous but I managed not to waste any yolk! My partner had the bacon thing and loved it just as much, we both had flat whites which were fantastic to.

It's one of my all-time favourite brunch places in Melbourne. It serves consistently good food, which is fresh and cooked well. There is variety, and the food is always spot on. It's very busy. Often, a line up. The coffee is great.

Coffee was great - but staff weren't the brightest. Came in early with friends to buy something to take away (we were in a hurry to attend an appointment). Friends bought an already prepared bacon and egg roll - staff did not offer to heat it up - just handed it over it over stone-cold. Asked for a danish pastry. Had to explain at length what a danish pastry was (they did have them) was served a muffin. On the other hand the coffee was excellent - staff props need a little more training.

Excellent brunch place, and by far my favourite in the city, apart from Rustica! Food is fresh and interesting, and the flavours are very well balanced. Service is swift, and the atmosphere is pleasant. The staff get things moving quickly and gently tell diners that there is a 1-hour seating during peak hours and on weekends. Note the 10% surcharge on weekends (common for most Aussie restaurants).

This place came in highly recommended from Intercontinental concierge and I COMPLETELY AGREE. I would like to say this is the BEST BREAKFAST / BRUNCH cafe in CBD. I had to stand outside as waitlisted, but once I was seated in no time got my cappuccino and I lost my heart to the first sip. Simply magical. Tried the crab dish and I just want to go back every day, never had anything so tasty and healthy for many years.

Disgusting. The manager shut the door in our face. Then the restaurant was cramped. The food was abysmal and over priced. I mean how do you burn pork belly and still manage to not get crispy skin? The only good things were the drinks, no wait al though peaches are in season they used tinned peaches for billinis. This was hugely disappointed because the first time i ate here the food was delicious. Honestly dont go here for a weekend brunch unless you want to see a circus disaster.

Came here for lunch on a public holiday. The cafe is quite busy and popular, with some nice brunch and lunch options. I had the crab, egg and croissant option which was well presented and had a variety of flavours. The cafe is fairly spacious with a homely and aesthetic vibe. The staff members were friendly but a little frantic. Overall definitely recommend for brunch.

Great for a morning breakfast meeting, but get in early before the hordes. This is a very popular place for the business breakfast crowd. Menu that changes with the season but always has sweet, savoury and vegetarian options. The coffee is good. The staff are professional and the prices pretty reasonable for the city.

Great, creative meal, great service and selection. But some notes. The knife they give might as well be a brick, it doesn't cut at all and my chorizo was flying all over the plate as I muscled the dull knife into it. Also, I expected more starch in the Benedict, not a tiny piece of potato hash swimming in veggies and meat. Otherwise great and I'd love to return.

I really loved this place . This was my first time here, and hopefully, it won't be last .Service was very professional and polite , my breakfast board was very yami , a combination of sweet and salty, just perfect. Hauly recommended this place to anyone who is looking for an amazing breakfast place in the city.

Really cute little cafe. Food delicious and service pretty good. Savoury pancakes with the maple bacon was the winner for us, benny not quite there. Quite expensive Brekky though. $80 for the two of us.

Dined in for lunch and I would say it was so good food was spot on and customer service was 5/5. I would say menu was bit overpriced as compared to portion size. Tables are so close to each other there is hardly any privacy. Talking about place I would recommend this for good food and good coffee.

Cute little spot. Food was nice, although small fillet for the price. Plate was mostly sides. Pretty empty on a weekday after the lunch rush (1:45ish). Service was just okay, however the host was lovely!

We are from out of town so when we spotted this place we didn’t have any presumption of what we were walking into. One of the wait staff was kind enough to point out a safe spot for our luggage while we sat at a table nearby. The atmosphere was nice, someone did take our drink order quickly however for the amount of staff working this morning it did take a while for someone to take our food order. But oh boy we LOVED the food. So deliciously good. The one thing we want to give genuine feedback on was with the drinks. I did kindly ask when my iced long black came out in a rather small short mug if they wouldn’t mind putting it in a tall glass for me, and my friend loved the apple juice, but it went warm because there was no ice in it, a couple of ice cubes would have been the cherry on top. If I’m back in the area I’d definitely pop in again.

Great breakfast/ brunch place. They take bookings which I would advise as there was a good 20 person line up on Sunday around 0945 already. Big portions of good. I would say mostly savoury over Sweet. They have a couple of big tables in an alcove that can take 10 people. I would recommend the savoury pancakes over the sweet. Their breakfast bar option is also good value

Simply the best! Our lunch was nothing but superb! Excellent, warm service by the crew but what was most amazing is the food! Despite being a cafe the cuisine is none any far from a high end restaurant! Everything was delicious, from the chicken breast to the blue swimmer crab omelette! Of course not forgetting the hot from the oven chocolate cookies & milk!

This is my absolute favourite brunch spot in Melbourne. We come here for every birthday and every time our friends or relatives visit Melbourne. I would highly recommend booking in advance as there is always a line on weekends. The food is consistently great as is the coffee, service and the manager. They are a gem and the culture at Grain Store is beautiful. It runs like clockwork. I've been going here for years and they never cease to amaze me.

  • 5/5 Paul H. 9 months ago on Google
After having mediocre breakfasts at other inner city establishments, and being served by staff who appeared to be on Valium, the Grain Store was a revelation. Attentive staff, excellent and innovative food. The blue swimmer crab scrambled eggs and the eggs Benedict with beef cheek were excellent and I highly recommend. The coffee was also top notch. Thank you Grain Store for a great breakfast experience.

Don’t be confronted by the line; despite being a group of 7 on a public holiday, we got a table pretty quickly. Service was friendly and the vibe inside wasn’t like they were trying to rush you out. Great coffee, and nice enough food.. still not 100% sure what the hype is for as I didn’t see anything that couldn’t be achieved elsewhere.

  • 5/5 Clare M. 4 years ago on Google
Omg!! Unreal restaurant. We had some of the best brunch we have ever had. The cures salmon on brioche toast with poached egg. Wow! And the pork Benedict. Both must haves. Service was great. Very clean and welcoming place.

We stopped here for brunch last weekend on Melbourne, on recommendation from the apartment concierge. This did not disappoint. Lovely, friendly vibe on entering the busy cafe, menu & water were given immediately on arrival at our table. The menu is lively and fresh. The corn frittas were yummy, and coffee great!

Lady-front of the house was fantastic. As soon as we walked in the energy was amazing. A lot of light. Food, service, coffee everything was perfect. We will come back before our holidays are finished. Loved it! In couple days time we came back. It’s really nice place. No wonder why it’s on of the best places for breakfast in CBD 😍

Fantastic service, delicious coffee and incredible food. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. The service was fast. They also very kindly volunteered to move our booked seat to a quieter spot when they saw I had a baby with me. I had the sweet potato tart and it was absolutely delicious. I will definitely be back.

We discovered the Grain Store for a brunch date on a Saturday morning. I must say they are popular as the line was far out the door (would recommend booking a table). You are welcomed through beautiful barn doors into a bright space with industrial looks and a homey vibe. The meals left us well satisfied and the staff were extremely attentive to our needs. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. ☕️ • ricotta pancakes • blue swimmer crab chilli scrambled • eye fillet steak sandwich for more foodie reviews follow @katey.thefoodie on instagram

  • 5/5 Shane L. 2 years ago on Google
A great spot for brunch, had their crab chilli scrambled and it was insane. The crab tasted so fresh and the scrambled eggs were so soft and cooked perfectly. The aioli sauce was so creamy and complimented the dish really well. The croissant was nicely toasted and super flaky. What a wonderful experience, would definitely visit again!

  • 5/5 Yves B. 2 years ago on Google
The whole experience was incredible. Super friendly service. The food was yummy. Fair price and the portions are very well served. Their coffee is good but the house blend is a little bit too acidic for my taste, however, their mocha is the best I have ever had, very well made and balanced. I had two and I will definitely get back there to get another one before going back to Sydney. Looking forward to coming again

I had a delicious omelette with cheese and romesco sauce. The foccacia was so soft/crunchy. It was tasty and the service was nice. I was seated at a large communal table. Much bigger than it looks from the outside, bustling and noisy. Takeaway looks pretty popular with a delicious display of burgers and croissants on the front counter.

Very busy on a Saturday morning. 1 hour seating, fair enough, lots of people waiting. Service was good, coffee was great. Servings were big and delicious. Gluten free options.

Pretty good. The warm and cozy lighting is delightful on a frosty morning, the coffee is rich and flavourful, and the server wearing the Led Zepplin hoodie made our morning with his great sense on humour and friendly demeanour. The smokey beans were ok. It was like Shakshuka but with a lot less flavour. The choc chip cookies and milk were amazing. Can't really judge the quality of the food from one meal so I'll happily come back.

A bit pricey compared to other places. The service could use some more work. The lady running the floor served my plate on the empty space across from me without as much as an eye contact or confirmation. I had to wait a few seconds to confirm if it was my order and then had to pull the plate towards myself😅 The ambience was nice. The food looked really appetising but was average at best and my coffee was lukewarm.

I found this place by google search. Even though it’s only 10:30am, it was so crowded. After some waiting, i sat at a share table. Long black was so so but lemon cake was super good. I want to try another bread and brunch. All staffs were good and kind.

Queued about 20 minutes for a seat on a Sunday morning. We ordered the breakfast board and the blue swimmer crab chilli scrambled. 4 Stars | mostly due to lack of options for all diets and the need to ask waiters to specify what you can eat instead of having symbols such as [v] and [gf] etc ?- one vegan option, various vegetarian options if you eat eggs. ☕ - great coffee, almond & soy available. ?- wait times can be lengthy during rush times, but easier for late lunches. It's good when it's not the brunch / lunch rush - easier to hear the people you're with, waiters more attentive (water isn't left but served.) I find it a bit ironic that it's called "Grain" and their bio is "passion for food that is equally rich in tradition, inspired by Mother Nature herself" yet they only have ONE vegan option on their lunch menu. In their defense; the spiced cauliflower is delicious. The flavors blend together creating a perfect meal and you're left full (I've had it twice and it's hard to finish!) Weekend has no alternatives option so I have never been as I can't clearly see a vegan option apart from the Bircher Musli. [edit] i upped the stars because I've since been back a few times and the cauliflower is still incredible

(Translated by Google) We were advised by a friend who had eaten breakfast there and who was not disappointed. Indeed, we neither !!! The atmosphere of the place is very warm with these lights dimmed everywhere. As soon as we arrived we were put at a table, apparently we were lucky because after us there was a wait for a table. a waiter who spoke French arrived immediately to give us the cards and take our order (coffee, juice, etc.) which arrived quite quickly. We then waited a bit for the dishes, but that's normal given the world. The dishes all arrived at the same time and hot. The menu is very varied, the dishes are generous and EXCELLENT !!! On my next trip to Melbourne, I will definitely go back there !!!

Good food, friendly staff, decent coffees and proper cocktails. The sparkling water is not free by the way, consider yourself informed. They've got pastries on offer too, and plenty of good selections before breakfast, lunch and brunch. Decently sized portions too and them being situated in the CBD (walking distance from the Southern Cross station) makes them perfect for catching up with friends.

Excellent on both the food and the coffee fronts. Would particularly recommend trying the turmeric latte - I haven't seen many cafes serve anything quite like it. Can get pretty crowded during lunch time so if you're coming with a group of more than 2 I'd recommend making a reservation.

A great little brunch place in the CBD. Your typical Melbourne brunch cafe affair; but some unique items and flavourful items. Big call out for the steak sandwich and the salmon risotto. Place can get a little busy and the staff can sometimes be a bit rude and not as friendly as you'd hope. Overall solid for food but nothing too special.

The Grain Store is definitely one of my favourite brunch (and dinner? they used to do dinner but it doesn’t look like it anymore) places. They offer a pretty wide selection of delicious (healthy-ish) Modern-Australian meals, superb coffee, tasty cakes and pastries, as well as great service. The venue itself is very comfortable and cosy with dimmed warm lighting and modern fit-out all over.

Absolutely loved it! We were a party of 8 people and we had booked in advance. There were so many things to love about this place. - We got our table at the booking time not a minute late (and not a minute earlier) - They served the food for the entire table together and also made sure everyone’s was still hot and fresh - The food was amazing. I am vegetarian so I had ordered the pancakes with mango and I’ve cream, I wanted to cry. Everyone else at the table was also extremely happy with their food - There was no rush once we got our table. We weren’t disturbed unnecessarily with the issue everything ok’ but still the service was available as and when needed - The searing isn’t cramped. The tables are spread neatly and the table sizes are big enough to hold the food you might order which many places these days forget Few things to keep in mind - If you are planning on going I would say make an appointment even if it’s a table for 1/2, it’s a busy place and you will have to wait outside - Once the appointment is made you can be sure to get your table only at the appointed time. They might give it to you a few minutes early depending on availability but it’s highly unlikely Why I give it 4 stars - I would have liked to give it a 4.5 really but not a complete 5 - The coffee wasn’t that great - The pancakes, though super delicious, weren’t the best I’ve had All in all I did like the experience, would definitely recommend it. I might even go again to try the other vegetarian options.

This place doesn’t really need another 5* review! We went for Sunday brunch, very busy but didn’t have to wait too long.
