I brought my son to the Emergency department for a seriously infected eye with trauma. We arrived at 1.15 pm and after 6 hours we were still waiting to see a doctor. The Victorian state government should be ashamed of itself for not providing proper health care. It is UNACCEPTABLE to have to wait for more than 6 hours to see a doctor in the Emergency dept.

Very medically negligent and under qualified. I went to the royal Melbourne Eye and Ear hospital presenting with severe, unrelenting eye pain - a 10 out of 10 in terms of pain. Was sent home after a brief exam with the indication that to use more eye drops and ointments. I stresses to them that i had exhausted ALL topical options with zero improvement. Once the numbing solution they administered wore off, I found myself in debilitating pain once again. I knew something was very wrong regardless of the hospital doctors dismissal so I made an appointment with the OPSM eye hub in hawthorn. Within seconds, I was told I had the worst corneal ulcer they had ever seen - the treating optometrist even called in a senior colleague to confirm the severity of it. I was given a protective contact lens (and a spare in case it fell off), as well as instructions on how to best deal with things until the ulcer heals, with follow up appointments all week. They could not believe something SO obvious and potentially dangerous if left untreated wasn't picked up by an eye hospital. Disappointed to say the least. This was not some mysterious disease - it was a VERY obvious and clearly visible issue. If you have eye pain, save yourself the trip and the wait time and see either a good optometrist or other eye clinician because listening to these guys could have left me blind.

Brought my 4yo son to have urgent eye infection. Arrived at 9am, left at 5pm. 8 hours. Came with queue with 6, left with queue with 7! Amazing service. People kept squeezed before us as “emergency”. 4yo waiting in hospital for a whole day! Every single time asked, soon will be your turn, so we can’t even leave for a lunch!

Just witnessed a manager yell at her staff at the covid check in right at the front doors of the hospital, and went on for ages. Highly unprofessional. An employee should never be subject to that level of embarrassment especially in front of patients and visitors to the hospital. I recommend that manager go through some training or be let go.

I went today around 11.30 am. Reason I had blocked ears. First waiting on the line for half hour, Than I give my Medicare card, from one grange send me to the next one, This boy said to me to wait in waiting room for about 10 minutes, This nurse called me to take in the room checking me my ears blood pressure and temperature, again she said to me to go in the waiting room. I asked her how long you think I gone wait because the waiting room was no sitting space cause full of patients. She said maybe one hour, So the conclusion is,she called me after two hours to take me back to the reception to tell me to book for Wednesday because they don’t clean ear wax any more and I should go to the clinic next Wednesday. I said why you don’t tell me before instead let me wait here for so long. I left and I didn’t’ do the booking. This is because there is unprofessional people in this particular ‘hospital’. This is shameful in this nation.

Emergency department: I know there is a triage system, but waiting for 5+ hours at emergency and being told you have one more patient in front of you when all other patients whom have arrived later than you have been seen is not very assuring nor hopeful nor comforting when you are sick. It feels like I’m being pushed back continuously as new patients come in. It’s really disenchanting and upsetting because you are pretty much left to your own when you are at your most vulnerable. If you can avoid emergency, and not really sure how you can given it’s an emergency, please avoid.

I wish I could give negative stars for this review. As a tax payer of Commonwealth of Australia I expected some shame of the staff advising me to go to a private clinic. Had attended the emergency 3 weeks ago for my on-going issue for which a small procedure is required. The appointment was given with 3 weeks gap and on the day I was told that the doctors will only assess you today and will give you another appointment. Means I will have to suffer another month or so with this pain in my eye. Nearly loosing my work due to this, why we pay taxes here I didn't understand. And for hospital staff, please do not just assume that everyone came here by boat.

Shocking hospital system. 3.0 hours wait for my 8 year old son with blocked ears problem in emergency. Which his situation was not urgent but hey, what fo you think we are, sheeps.Where are we? In a third world country?. Management, i think you should do more work on how to prioritise people, kids and emergency patients. And get the flow with the patients. You just stole 3 hours of our time in school holidays. Never again come to your hospital. I woukd rather pay private hospitals. Shocked.

The doctor and nurses are absolutely amazing! Went there on Sunday morning and it was full house. However, they managed to get me in within 2 hrs, because I got up early and didn’t have breakfast, so the nurse got me a sandwich & juice. I believe we all should appreciate the hard work these medical professionals done for us in this country. Yes it’s long wait at ED sometimes, but that’s because the lack of staff and overall pressure been putting on them. I am grateful for the care I received from everyone at this hospital.

If you're going to emergency, be prepared for a 4-6 hour wait time. Not even exaggerating How is this allowed in today's world? In this country? ONLY ONE DR WORKING OVERNIGHT! There are reviews from 3 years ago stating the same issue! Do better Victorian government! My father has been sitting here for 5 hours with chronic kidney disease and a weak immune system. 55 pressure in his eye. He needs to do this atleast 1-2 per month. We NEED a better, PROPER, FUNCTIONAL system. Godspeed friends.

Waited more than 7 hours with severe pain in my eyes in the Emergency dept. Very slow response from the team. Looks like, heavily under resourced or they have no intention of helping patients. It’s sad to see our tax money getting wasted to maintain such an expensive facility and staff.

Without the RVEEH, my daughter would never have been able to hear my voice, this hospital has changed so many lives with the work they do here. We are forever grateful, for the quality of care, and support provided to our family by the staff here over the years, which usually was at no cost to us. We are so blessed to have one of the best Eye and Ear Hospitals in the world right here in Melbourne. God Bless the staff at the Royal Victorian E+E Hospital ❤️🙏🏻😇

I received an eye injury while in isolation caring for my COVID positive child. I didn’t want to expose anyone given my higher risk, but knew the injury needed to be assessed. Staff were great, triaged me over the phone and arranged for me to come in with extra precautions (waited outside etc). They assessed me in a very reasonable time frame and had me on my way with a treatment plan. Thank you to all the staff- especially working under the pressure they are at the moment.

My husband was referred to the Eye and Ear emergency department as a result of shingles being around the eye area. Arrived 6pm on Monday night, waited until 12am, then was sent home to come back the next day before 9am. It is currently 1pm and he is still waiting to be seen ! That is currently 10 hours across two days (not including the 9 hour gap in between) and still waiting. Very disappointed. Clearly more funding for more staff is needed.

6 - 7hr wait and very rude staff. I ended up leaving and got into another place with 15mins. At eye and ear hospital the lady was telling me that I had to wait because there's other poeple who might lose their eye. I had glass in my eye but they were too thick to understand what could glass do to your eye. At the very end of this my eye was badly scratched and if left longer I could've done serious damage. Here's a one star for your arrogance and rude behaviour.

Reasonable wait time and great service in Emergency Department My GP sent me off to the Eye and Ear hospital because of a hearing issue. I turned up at ED without a referral and was very quickly assessed by the triage nurse. A short wait before the admissions clerk took down my details (Medicare number, DOB, contact details, next of kin etc) and, to my surprise I was "banded" - one of those wrsit bands that hospital inpatients wear! Fifteen minutes later I was in a consulting room with a very friendly and chatty Dr Hush. Great communication, clear description of the procedure and good future prevention advice. Have to give them five stars - great example of the public hospital system working at its best :)

Went into the ED on Sunday, just before 5pm. Initially taken aback by the first nurse I spoke to at the triage, she was just rather blunt and very much business, which is respectable, I was just a little nervous. The second nurse at the triage who did the follow up was extremely friendly and sweet. After all the documentations were done, I sat for around 10-15 minutes until I was called for a basic check-up with the nurse; who was extremely friendly and sweet as well. She was comforting and even waved goodbye to me when I was discharged 5 hours later. It was another 3 hours until I was seen by the doctor, who was very patient and helpful. She was also very thorough with the check up and had gone to find a second doctor to perform an cross examination on me just to be sure of my condition. Since it's pretty busy and they are not the biggest Eye & Ear hospital in Melbourne, each doctor was juggling between a few patients, which prolonged the time of the check up. I waited another hour in the doctors office until my first, initial doctor came back prepared with a medical certificate, prescribed medication, written instructions and a letter to show the doctor at a follow up appointment. I was very pleased by the amount of care and consideration that the doctors had put into taking care of me and preparing for documents before I had even requested them. Though the visit ended up being a total of just under 5 hours, it was a pleasant experience and really eased my concerns with going to the ED as well as my condition. I had gone in with a pink eye, thinking it might be a viral infection, but instead was diagnosed with a corneal abrasion (a scratch on my eye). Thank you so much! 💓

Lovely staff, and prompt response to our needs. We were all prepared for a 6+ hour wait in the emergency waiting room. All day car parking, entertainment, food and drinks. We were ready for the long haul. To our surprise we were in and out under 2 hours. I really feel for the staff working there. Wearing N95 masks all day long, dealing with grumpy sick people. It can't be easy. When you go to any hospital, please be kind and thoughtful, don't get angry because you have been waiting for so long, you haven't been forgotten. Then when you are leaving, please say Thank You to all the hard working staff, who work tirelessly to help everyone.

Visiting on 24/01/2023 at 10:45am. The registration nurse on station 3 who was teaching a new nurse, got condescending toward me because I apparently was sitting in an infection zone. Not only was I told to sit there by the triage nurse, but there is nothing clear stating that it’s an infection zone. I feel that this is quite bad as I now don’t feel safe in your hospital. This nurse can’t speak to people like this, especially when they were told to sit there.

Breathtaking negligence. I had a baffling experience during my hospital visit. The initial wait was extensive of course, and the situation worsened when they lost my eye swab, leaving the outcome of the infection unknown. Shockingly, this crucial detail wasn't communicated to me or my GP. Months later, I had to visit again for another eye infection, and a different doctor revealed the initial test result was missing, leading to a generic diagnosis and likely contributing to this second infection. The internal systems must be utterly chaotic here. Made further evident from the struggle for them to acknowledge the error in multiple email exchanges with customer service. Although the doctor eventually called to apologise (though with no word on why he didn't let my GP know and just gave a generic diagnosis based on, well, nothing), the experience leaves me shocked that this is the level of care for these types of public services. The contrast in care and assessment from an optometrist at Specsavers of all places was huge. I hope they can get more funding to improve whatever is going on here as it was not a good experience. God help you if it's a more serious affliction or if you or a loved one isn't able to be persistent when dealing with this hospital.

I had an ear infection and ended up presenting to the ED a week later with diminished hearing and a swollen ear canal - I was prepared to wait a lot of the day, but I only ended up waiting a couple of hours which was a pleasant surprise given I arrived after 10am. I want to thank the ENT (Oliver) who saw me, as they resolved the problem very quickly, and I even got a follow up call from the hospital 2 weeks later to give me my test results and guidance on how to take care of my ear. I have had way worse care for more life threatening stuff, so I just wanted to say thanks for the care that was taken on the day and after, especially given how stretched the public system is at the moment.

My personal experience of this health care facility was exceptional. Optometrist appointment in Bendigo to diagnose a retinal detachment and within 48 hours operated on, overnight stay and home. Every nurse, doctor, surgeon, pharmacist and axillary staff were professional, efficient and empathetic. I couldn't fault the care, and explanations given every step of the way. We are very lucky to have this level of health care in our state. And for those who have complained about wait times, come and spend some time in regional Victoria in some of our emergency departments. I believe you would then be very grateful for what you have on your doorstep.

Waited in ER. For over 4 hrs to see a Dr. I week Post surgery with severe Pain. To top off the disbelief The ( 1) Dr. that was at the Dept. came to the waiting room, stating if anyone just has an itch to go visit an Optometry clinic. ( Like we 'wanted' to spend the night sitting in a waiting room ) Then stated we all may be still sitting in waiting room until 8 am ! (This was at 8 pm) Possibly a 12 hr. wait to be seen in an Emergency situation is a Disgrace 😡 Our Australian Health services are Pathetic. . Recruit more Dr's... Educating them about Empathy and Compassion wouldnt go astray either !

I presented this morning at about 7:45am with a referral from my GP. Given some of the previous reviews I packed a bag for the full day. However, from the moment I walked in the nurses, admin and doctors were extremely efficient. Everything was clear, the waiting room was clean and well equipped. I was triaged at the desk and in the chair inside the first 30 minutes and then seen for treatment by about 8:20am. Anton treated me and solved the ongoing issue with my eye. I may have been lucky with the timing but overall an excellent experience.

After reading several negative reviews, I was so scared that I packed my lunch and dinner when I went to the emergency department on Saturday around 10:30 am for my eyes. However, the service was very quick. First, nurses called me for eye checkups and eye drops. Even after 10 minutes, nurse came out to put a second drop in my eyes. The doctor called me after 30 minutes and I asked her if I could call my husband because I was nervous. She kindly agreed and reassured me not to be nervous. She checked my eyes thoroughly and even consulted with another doctor. They were all (the doctor, nurses, and reception) very polite and humble. The whole process took 2 and a half hours. I am very happy with the service. They all trying their best.

Very unprofessional. Not sure what the Doctors name was but I am very disappointed in the service I received. After waiting for 4-5hrs to be seen, he told me to get Clear Eye over the counter at the pharmacy. I told him I tried dry eye drops and that didn't help. So he said its red and to use clear eye drops. That did not help at all the eye has gotten more red. I find that if the pharmacist told me that I would need something stronger and to see a DR, why did he just send me back to get something over the counter. Very disappointed, I would not mind waiting longer if it meant that I would get this cured. Honestly after 2 months of one eye being red and getting more red each day, I am so disappointed in this hospitals system and how it is run. Please look into getting the doctors that actually know how to diagnose a problem and how to treat it!

Walked in and saw triage straight away. They were very polite, took my details, and said I could wait at home. 1 hour and 20 minutes later they called me and told me to come back in. I was seen straight away when I arrived, the nurse and doctor were lovely and my problem was fixed within half an hour. Thank you!

The worst experience ever! I was seen by the front nurse for 2 minutes and then turned away. She advised it was wax build up without even being checked out. I managed to see an ENT specialist the next day and turns out I have mild to moderate hearing loss and I’m scheduled in for an MRI. I left feeling so upset and not heard. Horrible treatment, you should be ashamed of yourself. This was the first time I had ever been to emergency. You didn’t ask for any history, nothing at all. I’m a breast cancer survivor and you fobbed me off just like that. Shame on you. Aren’t you supposed to help people, where’s your duty of care. Awful experience!!!!

Such a terrible experience, triage nurse was so abruptly rude and not humanistic at all. Such terrible service, basically turned me away leaving me in the same pain that I came in with. She told me to return the next day, there’s absolutely no way I’ll be returning here. Absolutely appalling how she spoke to me and I will not be returning here.

My 8 mos baby had some food stuck in his throat n feel difficulty to breath. I callled receiption first to make sure their emergency room can treat him. The lady on the phone gave a firm YES. So we rushed into the emergency room seeking help. Firstly. The nurse think “it is not food stuck his thorat. He is coughing cuz cold”. Then after back n forth explaining the situation n finally we allowed to see doctor. Then doctor said “ oh, we dont treat young patient like his age”. I was like” then why ur receiptionist said so when we called?” The doctor totaly lost her patient said” well, receptionist is NOT a doctor! U can go!” It is very dispointing to see such behaviour n attitudes from medical field,l( specially in the emergency room) will never go back to this place.

What an absolute disgrace of a hospital. Your triage department should be ashamed of themselves. More concerned with who they are screwing and where they are going on the weekend than caring for patients. You should all be locked up for incompetence!

Today my baby girl who is 2 years old had her very first surgery at this hospital. They were absolutely amazing. The anaesthetist explained everything to me and how her tiny little body will respond to everything, and he was spot on with everything. The nurses went out of their way to ensure that I was comfortable nursing her when she woke up, and never upset her when doing her obs. My daughter was even happy walking into theatre holding their hand. Seeing how comfortable she was with them made me feel more at ease. Thank you very much for your wonderful and caring expertise towards myself and my daughter 🤗🤗🤗🤗

Honestly I wouldn’t recommend this hospital and in fact giving a two star rating is being generous I was an active patient in their outpatient clinic and then after the pandemic they essentially got rid of me as a patient my GP made numerous referrals to get me back in to no avail eventually we gave up and found a private surgeon who ironically works at this place in addition to running their own private practice, the wait times are ridiculous we would often be waiting three to four hours after our scheduled appointment before being seen only to be told that it was fine that I was slowing losing more of my hearing in short if you need the specific services this hospital is meant to provide I would recommend going somewhere else you’re more likely to get significantly better care

Whilst I'm super thankful for anyone working in healthcare and appreciate what they do. This emergency dept is a bit of a joke. I brought my mum in on a Friday night, it took around 4hrs to be seen, others had been there for 7hrs+.... After finally being seen we were turned away and told to return to the emergency room the following morning as the doctor working couldn't help mum... ok. There was no appointment made or option too, we were told to come back to emergency and line up again to see another doctor.... So we had to repeat the same process the following morning, granted we were seen a bit faster that time. I was also shocked to hear that they only had one doctor working? On a Friday night? What kind of joke is that for an emergency dept? I truly appreciate what healthcare workers do and this isn't a dig at them but this hospital needs to do better.

Was at emergency last night with my child waited 3 hours. Not seen only 1 doctor on overnight with 20 patients in waiting room. Said come back in morning. Went back today waiting room full of I don’t know 70 people. No chance of being seen today. This isn’t an emergency ward it’s not staffed adequately. We’ve had to find private emergency treatment. You are constantly pushed down the priority list every time a tradie walks in with an eye injury. On what earth is it ok to make a 6yo wait over 24 hours and counting now to see a doctor. Avoid at all costs. What kind of emergency department has one doctor on overnight??

Called to get an idea of the emergency wait time, and if I'd needed to miss work. Waited 30 minutes in the general queue. The woman who answered was polite and understanding, but couldn't provide any information on a wait time or other recommended clinics... I'd need to risk walking into emergency and from the other reviews likely wait 4+ hours to get seen for a cornea abrasion. I'd rather look up advice online and treat it myself. Can't imagine anyone with more urgent issues would do.

I was sent to E&E emergency by my GP, as I had Shingles around my eye and there was a concern it would infect my eye. The doctors in Emergency as well as those in the AOS Clinic over the next 8 weeks were just fantastic. The care they took of me was exceptional. Very grateful for their expertise and professionalism, for ensuring my eye didn’t get infected as well as aiding my recovery. So glad to have access to the E&E.

This is far most one of the best hospitals I have visited. All staff have been so kind and friendly from the triage nurse to the doctos. Throughout every lockdown for the past 2 years I was able to go with my wife to receive treatment here. Now with high vaccination and out of lockdown only she can go inside, fair however the treatment she receives leaves her partially blind. Of course they tell you this after you arrive. Typical public sector.

After waiting almost 4 hours and having had 6 drops a Dr Vivienne, came through the treatment room at 9pm and announced that she was the only Dr working tonight and it will take up to 5 hours wait before being able to see her and that if anyone in the waiting area think the reason for being in ER was not urgent to go back home and come back the next day after 8am. Can you believe this??!! Firstly, you wouldn't be there if it wasn't urgent, especially if you were sent with a referral letter and advised to see Dr urgently, 2ndly what if you went home thinking all is well because the pressure in your eye has dropped after the drops and you find yourself in bad situation over the course of night...absolute rubbish. When asked what's the next step if we stayed.... more drops and more waiting and unsure of time frame was the answer. I guess Melbourne is still in ice age when it comes to expediency and treatment measures!

She received our fax, 6 weeks later we heard nothing and we called and it was lost, only to be told the referral was invalid, but never had the courtesy to let us know. If this was my business and I was that incompetent and peoples health was on the line the she'd be fired.. Disgusting way to treat people.

Attended on multiple occasions in March. The doctors were able to identify I had optic neuritis very early on and promptly organised an MRI at St Vincents. They treated me with steroids once this was confirmed. The staff all work incredibly hard and deal with impatient members of the public constantly. I am grateful for their service and care. Please be patient and kind to our public health care workers, they deserve respect.

I was shocked to see the condition of the St Andrews Building on the park. The carpets in the consulting rooms were totally filthy with huge stains. First of all how hygienic is to have carpets in hospitals ?? Also these carpets are breeding ground for bacteria and germs. Very sad to see doctors and the public in such a badly maintained environment. Most of the desk staff was polite and helpful though.

I took my 6-year ok daughter to this hospital because she had a strong pain in her ear. Dr Laliberte was so kind and friendly that my daughter didn’t have to be scared of the medical equipments that the doctor needed to use for my daughter’s ear and nose. Dr Laliberte answered all the question that I threw to him. It was very satisfying and I was so relieved.

worse emergency hospital ever. An 83 year old waited for 8 hours in emergency to get her eyes checked out and my mum waited for 7 hours to get her sore eyes checked out. So unreliable and the seats were so uncomfortable. They had probably 2 doctors for the whole evening. You would think we are in a developing country.

Our 8yo son had surgery here two weeks ago. We were so surprised by the new facilities and the care from the wonderful staff here. The admissions teams were lovely and the nurses in pre-surgery and recovery were just so beautiful and caring towards our son. The anesthetist let our son watch youtube on his own personal phone while our son was in the process of going to sleep. The surgeon himself was amazing and provided us with heaps of updates along the way and everything well exceeded our expectations. They were all so amazing with children and the staff that work here really go above and beyond. Our experience was amazing and we are so grateful to the wonderful, caring and dedicated staff here that treat their patients with such respect, dignity and care.

I can't express enough how grateful I am for the outstanding care we received at Royal Eye and Ear Hospital. My wife experienced a sudden drop in her eye vision on a Sunday afternoon, and we rushed to the Accident & Emergency Department. From the moment we arrived, the entire experience was nothing short of excellent. The triage nurse was not only professional but also incredibly attentive. She took the time to carefully listen to our concerns and asked all the right questions to understand the situation fully. Within just an hour of our arrival, we were called in for examination. Further, Dr Rogan Fraser's expertise and compassionate approach truly set our minds at ease. He thoroughly explained the situation to us, answering all our questions and alleviating our worries. His dedication to providing the best care was evident, and we felt reassured knowing we were in capable hands. The staff's care was exceptional at every step of the way. The seamless flow of service, from our initial entry to our subsequent treatment appointments, was remarkable. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, professional, and genuinely caring. What struck me most was the non-stop dedication to our well-being. It's clear that Royal Eye and Ear Hospital prioritises patient care above all else. The level of commitment they demonstrated is a testament to their excellence. As a resident of Melbourne, I am overjoyed to know that such an exceptional healthcare facility is available in our city. The care we received went above and beyond our expectations, and we couldn't be more grateful. Thank you, Royal Eye and Ear Hospital, for your remarkable service. You've made a significant difference in our lives, and we wholeheartedly appreciate it.

My daughter has pain around her ear. We thought it was ear wax that caused the pain and brought her to a clinic for micro suction. She used wax softening drops before the suction but it didn't help to soften the so called hard 'plug' in her ear for the Dr to remove it. So she was referred to RVEEH. We arrived at the Emergency department at about 9am and the queue for registration was not too bad. We were lucky to have George taking care of the registration and booking the follow-up appointment after seeing the Dr. He was so friendly and helpful. He deserves more than 5 stars for the service he provided. My daughter was called for assessment within 50 minutes after the registration. The assessment was quick and we waited for about 2 hours before she was called to see the Dr. So the wait was not too bad for the Emergency department. The Dr diagnosed my daughter's ear problem as having hard dry skin which is moving inwards in her ear canal. She was prescribed a different type of solution to drop into her ear to soften the dry skin. Follow up treatments are required to totally remove the dry skin. Thank you RVEEH.

Triage and nurse were kind to me. Sadly the female doctor I saw today for my ears was very rude!!! Didn’t care about how my ears hurt and I couldn’t hear properly was just agro at me for being there seeking help.Left very upset and to leave feedback any where else with more detail they want my patient number but I ripped that off before I left quickly!! I thought pain and the possibility of going deaf was a good reason to be there my mistake!!

I have to take this moment to recognise great customer service when it is received as it is always easier to vent when the service is not great. My son has had ongoing issues with his ears since he was born. We are up to his third set of grommets and are going through the public system as we can't afford the private option so waiting on wait lists has been a norm for us. After moving away from the Monash Healthcare wait list as it was unbearable to deal with the slow unresponsive system they have in place to care for the millions in the public wait lists, Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital called my son in within a few months, not years. Then following up on an issue that I was not exactly happy with, I decided to email the feedback team. I thought the email would go unread and of course no-one would reply to my concerns as there are millions going though the system and it is what it is. However the customer liaison officer actually contacted me back within a day. I was shocked that they read my email and were willing to assist. On top of that the admin staff at the clinic I was visiting actually went out of their way to help my son further, to get an earlier appointment. The customer liaison officer, Peter, actually kept following up until I was happy with the outcome I had achieved. I was very grateful for this type of service in the public healthcare system. Very appreciative for the individuals that go to work and treat patients as individuals and not numbers. Makes a huge difference. Thank you!

I just spent 5 hours waiting - but with customer volume that's acceptable. Ending up being seen by 4 doctors who really wanted to find out the problem with my eye. Have nothing but praise for them, the nurses and all the staff.

My daughter had a shocking experience here with serious eye pressure and never ended up being seen. This so called hospital & its staff needs to be investigated by the Health Complaints Commissioner because looking at the severity & sheer volume of other negative review's, it’s quite a disgrace they haven’t considering it’s supposed to be a specialised health facility.

The front nurse didn't even look at my 3 year old and said her matter is not emergency, asked us to see local GP. This is very irresponsible and careless. After nearly 5 hours waiting, luckily we ended up waiting and doctor cleaned up with lots of liquids for her. Otherwise she will be in pain again. I don't think 3 year old deserve to suffer the ear pain and wait for GP and refer letter to see the specialist.

Went here tonight with my son who had an acutely painful eye. We were triaged by a lovely nurse and the seen by Dr Harry (not sure of the surname). Both the nurse and Dr were very thorough and kind to my son. A follow up was booked in 2 days time. Very happy with the care we received.

I like how my seeing eye dog was looked after throughout the night by organising someone to take him to the toilet. I also liked when they provided me with eyedrops they marked the bottles with Velcro stickers different shapes for me to identify which one was which they even put an elastic band around one. They lack when it comes to providing documents in an accessible format for people who cannot see without asking how would you like this provided to you Without assuming that the person may not live with anyone they may be independent. Because I was unable to put drops in my eyes myself they organised a non-patient transport to assist me to get all the way to Horsham from Melbourne. Because they lac when it comes to fully accessible this is why a gave a 4* rating.

Really nice staff and helpful. We were travellers from New Zealand got locked down. My daughter had to go to see the doctor because of an ear infection in the night time. The registeration helped us to find out that there are free services for residents from NZ, which saved us a lot of money. The doctors and nurses are very kind and friendly to my kid, also professional of cause.

I have only given a second star in honour of the actual doctors I have dealt with, they have been profesional and polite. However the triage nurse that I dealt with was very rude and kept hounding me about how I wasn’t wearing my face mask properly. I told her that the restricting breathing was affecting my eye condition and I took off my mask to breath properly. She continued to demand that I ‘wear it properly’ and ‘seal it.’ So unprofessional and purely cruel to people who have been through enough stress already.

Spent hours in the emergency department with a full waiting room and apparently only one doctor. I told the triage after nearly four hours of waiting that as it was 6pm I needed to get home as I had no night vision. She thrust a discharge form at me and I signed it. She didn't seem to think having no night vision was an important thing.

After 36 hours of pain and discomfort, I realised the only option I had was to go to the Eye & Ear Hospital emergency room. I knew I was going to be there for a while, so I was prepared. I walked out of there 4 hours later, feeling relieved that I had an answer, a solution and medication. The nurse was great, the doctor was great - in fact, all of the staff were great. It was well worth the wait. I only wish I had gone earlier rather than waiting 36 hours.

The triage staff were helpful but the service provided by the doctor was borderline useless. My son has was unable to speak due to severely enlarged tonsils yet the examining doctor did not bother to contact me for a comprehensive history. No swabs or blood test were performed despite my son's condition. Yet the doctor came up with an uneducated diagnosis which had been eliminated by tests performed recently by a previous organisation. Blood tests and further swabs should have been done!!!! This is a hospital not a local medical clinic and further medical treatment should have bern sought to diagnose the problem. No care plan was provided apart from antibiotics. My son has not improved. A telehealth was conducted 4 days later and no constructive diagnoses or assistance ... I came to the hospital as a last resort for assistance as my son was in so much pain. No such assistance provided. Where is the duty of care.

I went there by taxi allnalone at night. My left eye was hurt and pink for 1.5 days. They handled me and the waiting was long like almost 2.5 hours im fine with it as long as my eye got healed. And it did! It was nice andbthey also gave me drops antibiotic to use. Maybe one or two nurse talks firmly but i know they are tired and meant good. I hope theybwill keep their service.

This hospital is such a rude hospital. I was wearing my mask even though I have a medical exemption, I was holding it a bit so I am able to breathe as I suffer anxiety, claustrophobia and asthma. The nurses and security guards pressured me and continued to harass me even though my mask was on correctly I was just holding it. They had escorted me out and it resulted me in having an anxiety and panic attack. Nurses, security guards and whoever need to stop harassing someone just for holding it to get a breather I would never recommend this service to anyone in my life

Ridiculously slow. I've been here for almost 12 hours, 5 of which have been sitting in the waiting room waiting for the results of a single scan, which I have still not received. Was told it would be 30 more minutes over an hour ago. I understand emergency departments tend to have long wait times, but this is ridiculous. If you want to be treated with any level of efficiency go elsewhere.

This hospital need more doctors they have only 1-2 doctors working in day shift and only 1 at night. Even if you go there in emergency it will still take hours and hours just to see a doctor and in total it will roughly take 5-6 hours and even 12-14 if you went there at night.

I was really impressed by the efficiency of the emergency room. There is a screen that updates every 15 minutes that tells you how many patients are being seen and how many are waiting in both eye and ENT categories. I have not seen this in any other public hospital. The triage, registration process is easy and the ENT/Audiologist that I saw there were very kind and knowledgeable (Great bedside manner from my treating ENT).

Had to go to emergency here about a week ago for eye issues (vision changes/painful eye and migraines). Although the wait was quite long (due to staff shortages) all of the nurses/clerks and doctors were absolutely amazing. I would also like to MASSIVELY commend the outpatient clinic. I had an appointment a few days later in the acute outpatient clinic and I cannot believe the amazing service that was given. Appointment was on time, nurses were AMAZING and it was the most thorough appointment i've had- not just some 5 minute check in. A massive thank you to Dr Jonathan Hyer who spent an enourmous amount of time ensuring that everything was okay and that I was as comfortable as can be- it does not go unnoticed! The only 'negative' I had personally was that there was an enormous amount of light in emergency and me with my vision issues I found it quite hard to stay relaxed- but never fear I was able to use my sunglasses and hat. Thanks so much again team!

Awful place!! AVOID at all costs - was told that need to wait 3-4 hours but in reality they kept inserting new patients in front of us and told that they couldn’t tell us how long we need wait more. They also rejected our refund request because they said the cashier is not available. We spent nearly $500 out of pocket and waited for more than 10 hours

  • 2/5 Michael L. 6 months ago on Google
Bring a flask of tea, plenty of sandwiches and a good book! Waited almost 4 hours after a timed outpatients appointment before being seen and the doctor was miffed when I was annoyed with the slow progress through the 40-50 waiting patients. If the 'administration' can't rota enough staff on for the number of patients on the list the least they could do is let the patients know. I am sure the doctors and nurses don't like the situation so apply some pressure to get it changed!

Yesterday night I went to the E+E emergency department due to ear blockage and infection. While the 2-3 hour wait time was expected based on previous reviews and experience, not only did the nurse's forget to administer a painkiller for the stabbing pains in my right ear but I also had the most traumatic and painful experience with Dr David who was negligent, unprofessional and rude. While removing my earwax with microsuction by carelessly shoving the ear speculum and probe into my infected ear and telling me to "sit still" while I was clearly in pain and telling him how much it hurt, he ignored me and continued to the point where my body was shaking and I was in tears from the pain which he could clearly see and yet refused to give me any break, offer a tissue or even ask me if I wanted to stop. I understand that I should have told him to stop when the pain became unbearable but since he refrained from mentioning the stabbing pains in my right ear were due to infection and I had previous experience at the E+E with doctor's extending my wait time when telling them I was in pain, I thought I was expected to tough it out. For context, my session took well over an hour and afterwards, a series of pain and fear-induced panic attacks occurred as a result of his negligent and painful treatment involving uncontrollable crying, body convulsions and shaking, and intense fear. The absolute lack of care for patients at a hospital is unacceptable and these horrible experiences are what breed mistrust and an unwillingness for people to seek professional medical help when they may urgently need it! I urge the government, the E+E and it's staff to reevaluate the standards of professionalism and care that they hold themselves to because what I experienced felt like nothing short of torture.

I visited the emergency department yesterday 1/03/2024 around 7.15 am due to a post traumatic cataract with a referral from Optometrist , I read the reviews so i packed a full day bag and was prepared to wait a long time, however they took me in within 1 hour and the doctor in room 7 ( I'm extremely sorry i forgot his name) was very kind and started examining my eye immediately , I was also attended by Dr Ben who was also very kind and referred me for a specialist surgical ophthalmologist. Even the triage nurses and the specialist booking staff was friendly. I cant speak for negative reviews but i guess you have to understand it's a small emergency unit and there maybe staff shortages which could lead to long waiting times i believe the government should step in and allocate more funds and staff to these public hospitals.

Was sent as an emergency from Australian College of Optometry with a detached retina and macular. Arrive at the Eye and Ear, and triaged, being told to fast, 9 and a half hours later I see a very rude doctor, who gave no information, other than a clinic will call the next day with an appointment and sent me home. Got a text to say I have an appointment on Friday. Rang for further information as to surgery, how long can I stay with both eye segments detached, and was told I would get information on Friday. Absolutely pathetic service. I was told if they wait too long to attach my macular it will result in permanent vision loss
