This cesspool of medical misconduct should be shut down. Untrained student staff, unsympathetic vile nurses who are rude and deceitful to relatives about patient care and health status. Disgusting, filthy and inhumane environment for patients. No toilet in tiny cubicles. Elderly patients must wee and defecate in front on nurses in their room where they also have their meals. Shocked that this exists in a first world country like Australia.

0 stars, ignore the one I was forced to give it. Nurses are incompetent. We received a phone call saying our grandfather was end of life. Go to visit him a few hours later and are denied entry stating only 1 visitor a day is allowed. Not even his wife could go or other son. This was yesterday. This morning my grandfather passed away and we were denied seeing him to say our goodbyes. Absolutely appalled and disgusted in this hospital with how they dealt with this situation. Very heartless. * Edited on 25/3/2022 to add - I left a formal complaint on the day this all happened and have not heard one thing back from the hospital despite me ticking that I would like to receive a response. Their communication is just as slack.

WOULD GIVE 0 STARS IF I COULD!!! Worst hospital I've ever visited. Unprofessional, sluggish response, poor receptionist service, and obviously inexperienced doctor. Having paid more than $500 for JUST a normal checkup, I assumed the service would be good. I had a fever of 41 degrees, was feeling very dizzy, had been unable to eat or drink for two days due to a sore throat, and was on the verge of passing out because I couldn't breathe. The front desk staff, though, didn't seem to mind. I repeatedly requested medication, but that provided no relief. Had to wait more than four hours on the EMERGENCY ward with a large group of sick patients who were all coughing and vomiting, waiting for who knows how long. These patients obviously shared the same horrible experience as I did. When I was eventually called, the doctor only gave me a quick physical and recommended some migraine medication that I was ALREADY taking. I told him, but he paid no attention. I again requested an infusion despite being terribly dehydrated and starving. Doctor only gave me one perscription paper of the medicine I had to buy MYSELF at the apothecary. Nothing, not an injection, not a provided medication. Not even a justification for my vomiting, chest discomfort, or nausea. It seemed like the worst day of my life as I walked out. I will spread the word about this review as widely as I can in an effort to save others from experiencing what I did.

Please read back through previous reviews. Nurses with no compassion and being forgetful or rude, the hospital doing everything they can to discharge you and severely unorganised. My partner was allowed to leave with a lack of information on her condition, was spoken to like she would never recover and left not being able to walk without support or talk more then a couple of words here and there. She has no plan on recovery and they focused on dismissing any concern she had. Didn’t get fed one morning and a nurse ‘forgot’ to get her pain medication one night so she was left in pain all night. I have made a complaint, so no need for the generic “if you would like to make a complaint please email….” Someone obviously gets paid for that, maybe invest that money in better staff.

Surgeons are good but mostly throughout your stay you’re dealing with the nurses looking after you. Expect them to be giggling and laughing at 4am waking you up and extremely slow to respond when you need help. I just waited 1 hour 40 minutes for pain relief I requested and all they had to say is they were busy. They have very little attention to detail and some nurses will just flop a person back in bed who can’t move their legs and then quickly walk off. Approx 1 in 5 of the nurses are good, the rest clearly can’t be bothered and at times make questionable and even scary actions. Try to avoid this hospital.

I come with my friend for appointment in 1West specialist clinic @ 2:00pm and now it’s 4:15pm still waiting for our doctor to call us in. Really bad service. Doctors sitting in the rooms doing nothing without patients and staff at counters already left for homes. What a shameful clinic more than 2hours put patients on waiting lounge. No need to come on fixed time of appointment because on the wall already they said has to be wait 3 hours 🤒🤬

Other than the wait time to visit for your treatment which took my wife almost 2 months just for iron infusion, everything was perfect from doctors to nurses all staff are very courteous and caring. Clean and properly maintained hospital. Parking is an issue so come early to find a street car park. There is an IGA store nearby and an Australia post in the main building.

It was so nice to hear those two legends singing Space Oddity when I finished work at the John Cade building. It felt so warm, soothing and calming. Awesome arrangement and brilliant delivery of the project.

The doctors who ‘looked after’ me in emergency when I presented a couple of times a year or so ago need to be held accountable. I’d hate for anyone to go through what I went through with them. On my first visit, I came in with severe back pain, struggling to walk. I was seen by Dr Jonathan Knott who gave me a lecture about anxiety and mental health after he saw my mental health history he was basically implying that was the reason for my pain. I was made to feel ashamed by him and the nurses taking blood who were laughing at me I felt completely humiliated. On my second visit to ED I was blacking out among other things etc. again, I was humiliated by the doctor, made to feel as though I was being dramatic, was even yelled at by him and discharged to the curb with no way of getting home I have had an incredibly difficult journey since those first couple of visits, was bedridden for a year, unable to work & live my life as a young person in their 20s. However, I have since been diagnosed with a connective tissue disease, dysautonomia and a couple of herniated & bulging discs in my spine. So to those doctors who told me I was dealing with anxiety/being dramatic, you couldn’t have been more wrong, I hope you read this and learn a lesson. I am now able to work a couple of days a week since receiving some treatment for my symptoms and that is huge. Had I listened to those doctors in emergency I wouldn’t have gotten the help I needed.

I plan to write an extremely detailed review of this place, as it is flawed in almost every respect, but two quick warnings for patients/prospective patients. 1) If you experience complications following substandard surgery at THIS HOSPITAL performed by THEIR STAFF, good luck getting help. If you ring the numbers listed on the discharge instructions, you won't be guaranteed to get timely advice or assistance. It took me a week of calls. I was promised that the doctor on call would call me back (didn't happen), the doctors on call were "too busy" to help (despite it being their responsibility), and many of the nurses were incredibly officious, obstructive and unkind. 2) The feedback/complaints service aka "Consumer Liaison" is a scam, staffed by lazy, inveterate liars who will do absolutely nothing to resolve the situation. There are better hospitals.

50/50 ur lucky if u get a doctor that cares and actually wants to help u. They neglect the patients and out right gaslight them saying you’re okay when people are clearly unwell so they can get rid of you. They have a duty of care or they should but they out right tell people they’re faking it. Disgusting behaviour specially given that some doctors there are actually good. The staff is a hit and miss and very disrespectful and out right refused to give me crutches after I came in on a wheelchair and was still unable to walk. Very poor communication with staff everyone came in telling me different instructions no one actually knows what they’re doing at all.

So grateful to have such an amazing public hospital nearby. In particular all the staff were absolutely phenomenal - caring, knowledgeable, compassionate and professional. No matter what the time or what the request they responded with a cheerful and positive attitude. The very first person I saw on admittance was a very professional doctor from the Neurology Department. I was in short-stay overnight through the Emergency Department so I’m sure they were under pressure, but they never let it show. The doctor who saw me prior to discharge gave me very comprehensive information on my condition. My husband had recently experienced the same service during his short stay. In addition we had access to the latest comprehensive tests with appropriate follow-up appointments and tests booked.

Emergency: Staff being shoved, having things thrown at them, sworn at. Wait room was full of aggravated drug addicts. They need to open up a clinic for the undesirables where they can get food, coffee and have someone to yell at instead of clogging up the emergency department. Even with the 6 security guards being very present, I did not feel safe there. Staff were nice, despite the insanity of the patients. Needs a water dispenser and a wait room nurse

Mum had an appointment here in the private suites of The Royal Melbourne Hospital to see a heart specialist, the receptionist on duty was abrupt and rude. No need to be rude and nasty to elderly people. This particular receptionist needs to put herself in an elderly's person's shoes...when she gets old, how would she like to treated.. treat elderly patients with respect and empathy.

I’m a international worker and it’s necessary to pay $580,00 upfront to be accepted in the emergency room , before even going through the triage. After I paid the amount and went to the triage the nurse told me they wouldn’t be able to help me and I should go to the Women’s Hospital Emergency. I then told him I already paid the fee and explained the situation as I was in a lot of pain and barely could walk. The nurse then told me they would accept me in the hospital and help me with my emergency and asked me to wait to be called by a doctor. After 30 minutes waiting, in a considerable amount of pain and with no feedback from them I went to ask to the receptionist about it. She told me they would refund me and ask me to go to the Womens Hospital. If I didn’t check they would have me waiting there for God knows how many hours. I then asked for my refund but they couldn’t process it as I paid with my phone. As the pain started to become unbearable I left and went to the other hospital. I just don’t understand how a whole team in a emergency hospital can’t have the dignity to come and talk to me and explain the situation so we can try figure something out. Seriously, put yourself in my position where there’s internal bleeding and a lot of pain and those who are supposed to look after you lack of moral, proper training and common sense.

Can’t speak highly enough of the staff in the Emergency Department at RMH. I had to take my husband last night as he was experiencing chest pains. He was attended to straight away and the two nurses who cared for him (and me) were absolutely wonderful even though they were so busy. This was an example of health care at its very best in my view. Will send a formal letter to the hospital to pass on my heartfelt thanks to the excellent nursing staff.

I have recently had the pleasure yes Pleasure, of being a patient of this fine hospital ! I say this not because of its looks, but because of it’s staff, Firstly the emergency department, what an experience! Being able to recognise an emergency, when they see one! And be able to Triage so effectively.. I was admitted to 3 South, What can I say!! If all wards are like this one, we have no care issues.. From the Nurses who were excellent in care giving, The doctors and Surgeons, First class! All the way down to cleaners, and hospital services, a smile with a good morning, or a hello can I help you attitude! I applaud the RMH for its first class care, and support of those in need! .. Excellent!!

I know im just an international students here in Melbourne with limited benefit from my insurance provider, and i know obviously super duper different than those who have medicare card. But in case of emergency, i do believe that everyone deserve the same treatment and information given especially when it comes to something with your heart. I went to RMH emergency department on 13th of January, panic, and alone. I had a tachycardia and palpitations. I came at 19.30, met with doctor 20.30. They asked me to pay upfront $580 WITHOUT any information that is included. The doctor couldn't find anything, the results of the blood tests and everything was good, then I got discharged at 10.50 pm. 2 weeks later, an additional invoice came with the total amount of $1800 without any explanation of what is it for as I was discharged after less than 4 hours of treatment. Today, they gave me another invoice for a pathology charge of $123 SO, WHAT WAS $580 FOR? JUST TALKING TO DOCTORS? Australia is really in crisis for the health industry, and you guys should be ashamed of this EXTORTION! I can bring this to the Department of Health since I have all the evidence. Thanks Royal Melbourne Hospital for the treatment and invoices without any result

if there was a option to put 0 stars that is what i would give them, left a BLACK covid positive woman with digestive issues and gallstones crying who is in extreme pain on the road at 3AM to walk home by herself which is very dangerous due to the fact there could be anyone who can pick her up and she could never be seen again. a “woman” who claims to be called “Maree” who is ambulance worker proceeds to make an attempt to embarrass the patient who was recording her telling neighbours of the residence that they should be careful because she is covid positive and is acting very irate. the other man that “Maree was working with on that shift were laughing at the patient too. let me add that “Maree” is white too. just to show how the life is to be a black person in Melbourne and the lack of medical attention you are given because of your race. do not go that if you are a person of colour.

Absolutely wonderful teams of nurses and doctors. Deeply grateful for the level of care I'm presently still receiving in 7 South West following emergency surgery. All my needs have been met with kindness and professionalism. Staff have been most accommodating and friendly. Namely Tom, Olivia and Maddy (nursing staff) and Alexia (OT) just to name a small few... Extending from Luke through emergency downstairs, whom was kind and thorough; as was Dr Michael and his team who realigned my broken ankle to prepare it for surgery. I was made to feel safe and at ease through my shock. Mr Rudy Ambikaipalan (orthopaedic surgeon) and his wonderful team in theatre were incredible in greeting me and explaining procedures before I went under. Mr Ambikaipalan inspired my trust and confidence with his warm and humane bedside manner. I sensed upon talking with him that I was in good capable hands - which put me at ease, allowing me to relax into the procedure. Subsequently I awoke to a successful operation, delivered with excellence and was amazed. As such, I wanted to express my gratitude and appreciation for everyone concerned.

Absolutely beautiful experience. From ER with appendicitis to operation to aftercare, I felt genuinely cared for, safe, relaxed and important. Comprehensive tests we’re done on me and the doctors have organised more procedures for the future. I was worried about all my bills going to ER but Medicare covered it which is another great thing about Australia. Nurses were all sweet and excellent communication. A little loud when talking, sleep was patchy but it is a public hosp. One cleaner man was really rude and kept leaving my curtain open and light on without acknowledging me. Only feedback is how quickly I went home, I still felt a bit vulnerable and useless after surgery. Looking forward to next procedure (ward 3 south)

Very grateful for the staff at RMH. My partner was admitted through the Emergency Dept and stayed for 4 nights including surgery. The hospital is extremely busy now due to COVID. However, the quality of care my partner received was still exceptional. Special thanks to Mason, who was so efficient and warm. There are some wonderful people working here and we are very appreciative.

I would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses who assisted me with my recent visit. Their care and service was very good. I felt like I was in safe hands who knew what they were doing. I did not feel like a number but felt that they each cared what happened to me as an individual. I appreciate what pressures these people are under every day with the numbers of people going there to seek medical help. We are very fortunate to have this type of facility to go to and to have front line workers who give their time day in and day out to help us when we need help. They should be given the respect they deserve. My hat is off to all of them.

I recently visited the Royal Melbourne Hospital emergency department and wanted to express my sincere gratitude for the care and attention that I received. When I arrived, I was provided with a wheelchair and immediately felt taken care of. The nurses were all very nice and made me feel comfortable. I was pleased to find that the waiting time was relatively short, and before I knew it, I was being seen by a doctor. The doctor was excellent - he listened carefully to my concerns and provided a thorough examination. I felt confident in his ability to properly diagnose and treat me. Overall, my experience at the Royal Melbourne Hospital emergency department was very positive. The staff were kind, efficient, and professional, and I am grateful for the care that I received. Thank you to everyone who was involved in my visit.

My friend last night had a couple of bones taken out of her back. She was told after a major surgery she was staying one night then getting transported to Benalla her home Town hospital. Only to be told her husband had to take her home 4 hours away. She is in Benalla hospital with a infection because of Thier neglect so no not a great review. Our system is stuffed. Lack of fundindinf, lack of doctors, lack of hospital beds lack of care plus some people not being tough enough to deal with problems that don't need a hospital. Major part Government not being present in life just greed and how they look. 😡

Myself and my family have had so many bad experiences with RMH. From nearly giving wrong blood type in blood infusion to making me have surgery that was genuinely useless and overdosing me on fentanyl. Some of the surgeons here just want to make their Porsche repayments. Always make sure you get a second opinion and that you are exceptionally vigilant when they are administering medications and blood. The acute medical unit is a joke as well, my grandfather received very minimal care there and worsened very quickly until he passed. This hospital needs a serious rework.

Most of the staff here are quite arrogant and egotistical! There is zero accountability so when things go wrong don't expect to be treated fairly. Not inclusive environment either! They seem to thrive off being racist and misogynistic. Roger Bingham is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon and has no compassion and will cancel surgery multiple times with no explanation after waiting more than two years! Andrew Bucknill head of orthopaedics needs to be held accountable for the neglect of patients! World class at justifying abhorrent behavior and excuse making! While covid played a significant role in long wait times it isn't a defence for negligence! Do yourself a favour and avoid this place. There are other hospitals in the country that actually have professionalism and compassion! All these guys care about is their research papers and looking good on the TV!

Need a double hip replacement. Waited a year for an appointment just to be seen by a registrar, who told me my surgery would be done by Roger Bingham, who I never met. In the meantime I have to resort to crutches to move around and can no longer work or look after my chronically ill daughter. After my doctor's Intervention, 10 months later, finally get a surgery date. I have only spoken to the Orthopedic Liaison Nurses. I still haven't met my surgeon, I still haven't got a clue what the surgery entails, which method will be used...Am I expected to just turn up and be operated on like a lump of meat? Where is the consultation, the empathy, the humanity in this? Needless to say I don't feel safe and will cancel, have already been cancelled twice anyway. Will have to continue to struggle with lack of mobility and pain on a daily basis. Very disappointed, poor practice on Royal Melbourne's part. Update: Went to a Private Orthopedic Surgeon who remarked over and over again on seeing my xrays "How can they have left you like this? Apparently my hips are frozen. I'm looking forward to being treated and listened to!

My experience at the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) was nothing short of a nightmare. I was brought to RMH in an ambulance following a severe fall down a flight and a half of stairs, with my body wracked with excruciating pain. I implored the doctors for help, but my pleas seemed to fall on deaf ears. Instead of addressing my immediate pain, they fixated on a previous spinal surgery from 2008, insisting that my agony was merely muscle inflammation. Their response was to offer nothing more than Panadol, leaving me in agony. Despite promises of a full-body MRI, I was shocked when they only ordered a scan for my neck. It took the intervention of a nurse who discovered complications that prompted a second doctor's evaluation. Yet, my relentless pain in the upper thoracic spine and solar plexus area continued to be ignored. I attempted to convey my family history of aorta ruptures, but it seemed like they regarded my concerns as a mere fairy tale. To compound the frustration, the pharmacist decided to intrusively inspect my father's medications, treating me with disrespect when I dared to voice my concerns. Even my simple request for a medication list was met with a denial and a dismissive response. The nurses recognised my suffering and sought stronger pain relief, but the doctors prescribed nothing more than Panadol and 200mcg temgesic. My pleas to see a doctor regarding my chest and thoracic pains were consistently postponed, offering no resolution in sight. My RMH experience left me in relentless agony, rendering me incapable of working. To make matters worse, other hospitals were eager to refer me back to RMH due to a new address hospital catchment allocation, leaving me trapped in this nightmarish cycle. A subsequent visit to a different Hospital, with more basic facilities, revealed issues that RMH had overlooked due to a shocking lack of care and empathy. I am now desperate for a transfer to a hospital that genuinely prioritises patient well-being. I regret to say that my experience with RMH, particularly its doctors, has left me disillusioned. They have fallen far short of their claimed skill and expertise. Hospitals like St. Vincent’s, The Alfred, The Epworth, and even Western Health outshine RMH when it comes to diagnosing patients. They don't solely rely on machines for answers. It's disheartening to feel like these messages may fall on deaf ears, as it seems that patient care is lacking at RMH. I can only hope that somehow, the service at RMH can be improved to prevent others from going through what I experienced. If other hospitals cannot alleviate my pain and suffering away from RMH, I may be left with no choice but to make a video detailing my ordeal, including all details, and share it on social networks. The overwhelming pain has pushed me to contemplate drastic measures to end my suffering permanently. It's a desperate plea for attention to a deeply troubling situation.

I feel a bit bad about giving only 4 stars. I collapsed in the city and was taken by ambulance to Royal Melbourne. I don't remember anything of the whole episode until I woke up to find my family with me. I had had scans by then for a suspected stroke, didn't remember having this. I was diagnosed with Transient Amnesia. The doctor, Dr Joseph Curran, (absolutely amazing bedside manner, so caring) explained about the Amnesia. However I did feel that he and his boss, who was present while speaking to me, not knowing my spinal history, didn't really want to focus on what I thought was the real reason for my collapse which was spinal nerve entrapment. I tried to explain that my legs had collapsed a week prior to this episode but at that time I hadn't lost consciousness. It was at home and not traumatic like the Crown Casino!! They had been focusing on a possible stroke when I was admitted which was in no doubt the correct thing to do at the time. However, I couldn't give 5 stars because the pillows are like sleeping on bricks. I couldn't sleep. A suggestion to everyone to take your own pillow! The staff I came across during my short stay were very friendly and helpful.

I would like to say a big, big thank you to the nursing staff and doctors for looking after my son. He was in Melbourne for a friend’s birthday but unfortunately got very sick with gastritis. He was in a lot of pain. He went to the ED 3 times in 2 days and each time was well looked after and cared for. We were desperate to get him home and because of all their efforts, he was finally able to travel back to us.

So went into the ED for an injury to my wife’s ankle (a fall). Now, it’s important to note there were only 4 people in the ER waiting area as that might make a difference. We got an assessment within about 5min on entering and had an X-Ray within 10min after that. Staff were very friendly. Quickly sent in where the attending Dr saw us and diagnosed the ankle. Super impressed with the professionalism and high level of care. Probably the best ED I’ve ever been to.

After a recent motorcycle accident that left me with severe injuries, I was subsequently airlifted to Royal Melbourne where I spent 2 days in ICU and a further 3 in the recovery ward. The staff were simply amazing on every level, always conducting themselves in the most professional way, yet always displaying compassion and caring. Although they were busy, none of my requests ever took long to be fulfilled, and one nurse went well above and beyond to locate something for me after my transfer from ICU. I really can't speak highly enough of them and will always be grateful to them. The food was a little standard, however, this is a public (not private) hospital with many mouths to feed, and overall there was a good selection. My thanks to you all at RMH, you are amazing.

Recently had to attend here as a friend had a medical emergency, was extremely impressed with the friendliness of the staff despite it being a busy night shift. The nurses that attended our case, Jamie, Sabrina and Celeste were all extremely comforting and kind in what would have otherwise been an extremely uncertain and stressful visit. We were seen very quickly despite the busy waiting room, and the staff did everything to make my friend comfortable. My previous hospital visit had been at St Vincents, a truly terrible experience, and compared to that this experience was immesureably good. So grateful to have such an amazing public hospital nearby.

The medical corporation in the west has had too much smoke blown up their a** for too long .Melbourne hospital…butchering a 30 year old for basic key hole surgery. We pay taxes every year and public establishments are always crying poor. Why does the money get to where it’s needed? under qualified staff, unprofessional nurses that talk about paying customers and trainee Dr that’s can’t even take blood. If you want to come out unhealthy use Melbourne medical services. ☠️ Footscray better be and improvement.

The genetics and immunogenetics departments have treated me like a useless piece of trash since I first walked through their doors. I have an extremely rare genetic condition, they decided since I don't present like others with the same genetic defects I was panel tested for, I have a different type of disorder, one without any genetic marker. They put me in the "too hard" basket. Immunogenetics dismissed me, gave me overly fake and layered on sympathy and gave me a prescription for antihistamines I couldn't even fill at my local pharmacy. They said I can have *one* genetic counselling appointment. I haven't had it yet, since I will use it if and when I decide I might want kids, since I will need to understand the ramifications. My experience here has been the worst health care experience in my entire life, and I have had *heaps* of those. I feel like trash. If I could give them 0 stars, I would.

Royal Melbourne Hospital is one of the BEST if not THE BEST hospital in Victoria. During 2023, i have had to visit the hospital frequently and all the times i have dealt with the hospital has been nothing but professional, caring and world class treatment. Thank you for all that you do you are truly remarkable as well as all the care you provide.

Worst emergency department I have ever witnessed, this is in comparison to regional hospitals other melbourne hospitals and interstate. One person admitted in 90 minutes. Visibly sick and suffering individuals left without further care. At the time of writing I expressed that I was in unbearable agony upon triage with no offer of pain management whilst individuals who were only present to seek pain management were provided with what they were after At time of writing 12 indivuals awaiting admission with 9/10 original occupants still present.

Waited 2 years for a Cardiology appointment only for them to tell me they didn’t know why I was referred because they couldn’t help me. They referred me to Neurology, who I told my current course of treatment was making me more ill, which she then recommended I keep doing with no real knowledge of the condition. I’ve been discharged with no help. This place is a disaster.

We went to Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) today staffed by Royal Melbourne Hospital for our appointment and got refused. I called the hotline last week and confirmed everything we needed and confirmed our occupations were on the list. We showed up today with our employment letters, letter stating we were essential, our payslips and the stat declaration signed. She refused us and told us people on the hotline make mistakes all the time because there are so many “essential worker” lists circulating. Then we couldn’t get AZ because they weren’t accepting walk ins. This is very frustrating. We’re trying to do the right thing. Absolute joke.

How possibly a doctor at ED discharge a patient with Brocken ribs with just a muscle clamp diagnosis!! We waited 5 hours in waiting list to be admitted and after 5 hours supervision , she has been discharged with a wrong diagnosis . While the pain become worse every day ,I thank our GP for an urgent CT-Scan referral and I’m so upset about the wrong diagnosis by ED because we did a lot of massage on painful area to help reduce muscle pain which is absolutely not right for a Brocken ribs !

Doctors nurses absolutely amazing. I love and respect the work they do for us it should be 5 stars. Even though I waited I was patient and for those who put one star down just remember who helps us when we are in pain or feeling sick and if you wait for a while just be patient remember they are flat out busy and you gotta respect that. Keep up the great work health care workers ❤️ love heart love heart.

Outpatients in the orthopaedic ward. In the last month mum has had 2 appointments and our experience had been less than great. Their statistics on their public board state that the average wait time to be seen is less than 1 hour. There has not been a time when we have waited 2.5 hours plus. We are not the only people that have complained. Multiple patients do. Some waiting in excess of 3 hours. Today 1 of the doctors that is under Professor Bucknil left leaving us still waiting. Our appt was at 10:30am, writing this review, it’s 1.15pm. How does that show that they working towards ‘being seeing on time’? Obviously their priorities….that are displayed on the wall do not include being seeing on time.

My partner suffered acute appendicitis, and we went to the Royal Melbourne Hospital ED. The ED is obviously under enormous pressure with limited staff resources. We did have to wait for a bed, but the staff in ED were doing their very best under constant pressure and started the process of taking bloods, inserting a cannula and providing pain relief. Taken through to ED Short Stay where my partner was examined by Dr Michelle who was lovely and correctly diagnosed appendicitis on initial examination. Fortunately, there was a bed on 3 South. Again, a awesome staff with amazing clinical skills - 3 South nursing staff, doctors and pharmacist - you are legends! All of the complicated IV medication regimen was handled with speed and efficiency as was required. Emergency surgery the next day. Again, awesome surgical team under Dr McCormick. The appendix was removed via keyhole surgery, revealing that it was badly inflamed and could have ruptured, so this was a life-threatening episode. And then home the next day to recuperate. 100% ever-lasting gratitude and thanks to the RMH and its staff.

My wife was admitted to emergency via an ambulance. The staff were an absolute delight. They were all so friendly and professional. Could not have asked for more caring people. I even had the car park attendant willing to help me when I couldn’t find a park. Although we were there for many hours the staff continued to remain attentive during this time.

One of the lowest hospitals I have ever seen. They are racist nurses and careless! I’ve never encountered racism like this. I was left 8-9 hours in the waiting room to be seen when I went in with a chest pain and migraine, they left me to cry and sit there with no medication to ease my pain. On top of that when I approached to ask where I was in the que, I was dismissed like I was trash. No one showed any sort of mercy , Wouldn’t let my worst enemy go here.

My daughter came in for heart surgery on Jun 7, 1st surgery for the day. We are from regional Victoria so it was enough stress for her being well and truly away from home and out of her comfort zone. Where do I start? We arrived at 6:30 to check in. Your admissions clerk Heather was extremely helpful and professional. Thank you Heather. Carrol (pretty certain that was your name), the nurse who helped prep her for theater went above and beyond, my daughter was extremely nervous but you were absolutely fantastic, you hooked your phone to a speaker, logged into spotify and played Lana Del Rey and Foo Fighters to help calm her massive anxiety. After the surgery you continually checked on her and also made sure my wife and I were coping well. Thank you Carrol. Dr Kalman, our brilliant surgeon performed a successful operation, effectively ending 6.5 years of terrible heart issues, parental angst, missed days of school and many ambulance trips to the ED. You were professional, you had a great bedside manner and the zoom meetings we had beforehand inspired huge amounts of confidence in you. Thank you Dr Kalman Tiff, our ward nurse, you just topped off what was a wonderful experience on a very stressful and mentally draining day. You looked after all of us with compassion and understanding, that made the day so much easier. Thank you Tiff. All of those who I didn't meet or get your name but were part of the team, thank you as well. I have put enough info in this review for the staff involved to be able to be identified by the people that need to know about it. I hope you receive the recognition that you deserve.

With out a doubt the best hospital in Australia…. My story is quite long and detailed as to why I ended up in this hospital( for the first time ) but it was an Emergency case with an extremely serious situation. The services I was given and the level of care and professionalism for each separate factor were second to none. The administration accepted me at short notice from a regional hospital and after a few hours and further testing ( I had already completed many high level tests prior to arrival) I was give a bed and started the process for receiving the best care anyone could expect For processing as a patient it was advised that I be accepted as a public patient even though I had full private cover….there were many reasons I accepted this offer with the number one reason being I could see that the standard of care was of a very high standard along with convenience of care directly available. Please to everyone who use this hospital and other public hospitals in Australia, please be respectful and be kind to everyone who works hard to give you the best care available because they genuinely do it at the highest standard and do it sometimes under extremely high levels of stress. God Bless you all

I don't know where to start from,I had a fall on Oct 7 2023 and ambulance took me to ED,I was attended fast and though I was high with green whistle but I can still say all the staff who attended me was very supportive. Mind it I never been to hospital in my full life. Wish you all a very merry x mas and a happy new year. Regards

Waiting time is too long. I don't recommend coming here. Not taken care seriously enough. I am writing this review as my personal experience, not for attention seeking or looking for fancy services. I needed my wife assessed and her symptoms treated urgently here @ RMH emergency department @ around 3:30am, But I didn't get it. We waited 5 hrs. Triage nurses are useless as I kept begging for my wife to be called. My wife cried in pain as it was very itchy, But nurse said "nothing we can do". But My wife needed to see a doctor as soon as possible. Triage Nurse ( I forgot her name) misdiagnosed my wife who were itching extremely, non-stop scratching, skin rash and cannot sleep as an "allergic reaction" which is not very serious nurse said, given her Cetrizine (zyrtec) totalling of 30mg dose in 12 hrs with doctor's approval, yes but remember the doctor has not diagnosed it yet. When my wife's name being called @ 8:40am, we came in, met a doctor and another nurse, they diagnosed my wife again, same the dr said "it is an allergic reaction, nothing to worry about, just continue taking zyrtec 2 tablets per day to treat the allergy" It is a very high dosage, but my wife did not feel any better at all and luckily enough she didn't get side affects (otherwise I will take legal action if it does) I know it is misdiagnosed because on the same day in the afternoon my wife did not feel better with high dosage of zyrtec. The itch got worse. I took my wife to a private gp practice @ Swanson Street medical centre, dr said my wife has Scabies and prescribed her ointment and medication. She got better now. Much better. Then I was shock for a moment thinking what they did to us at RMH emergency department the morning. I just need to say. Emergency means urgent and needing fast response, c'mon! Pls Don't make people wait for tool long at the emergency room. Treat everyone equally and seriously. I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else in future.

Was given a referral and list of psychiatrists to call in regards to making an appointment, the receptionist I spoke to was so incredibly rude, talking down to me, cutting me off mid sentence and not listening to me or trying to help when I was only following the instructions from my GP. Had to hang up because it was so upsetting. Would expect maybe some compassion or basic decency from the first point of call in a hospital (whether emergency or not, this was not an emergency line), good luck getting help from these people.

Couldn't be more grateful to this hospital. When I took my Mum to the Emergency Department a couple of months ago, we weren't too worried about her symptoms. Fortunately for us, the Emergency Dept. staff realised straight away that it could be something serious and quickly discovered that she had two big blood clots--one in each lung. I was so impressed with the coordination between all the different departments and doctors at the hospital that helped by Mum (especially the Coronary Care Unit), which was seamless. I felt that she was in the best of hands. Will always be grateful to this hospital for saving my Mum's life.

Took a knock after falling over at 4 in the morning (walking back to bed in the dark). Split my ear wide open so went down to the RMH ED. All the staff were wonderful. I believe I was triaged by a nurse called Briar who was very welcoming, and then Jay was my main nurse (I think that's the right name). All staff were great, including the Dr's. I particularly noticed how patient and empathetic the nurses were with others in the emergency waiting room, including some who were likely not easy to deal with. Great staff. What could have been a high stress experience was actually not that bad. Thanks everyone.

They were great but, press a buzzer anytime and you will have a 45 minute wait for a response. I spent 4 days there and could not stand, was never washed and I reckon I smelt bad which could not be healthy. I could not read as I had no glasses, after 3 days of asking I spent 1.5 hours hobbling down to the pharmacy in pain, with the staffs consent only to find the pharmacy was closed. Everything else was good.

The nurses and doctors were all amazing thoughtful in their approach and clear in their explanations. The nurses who cared for me during my stay Crissy, Milly and Mason were outstanding, thank you so much for checking in often and making sure I was well. Thank you to Carly Fox the lovely reassuring Plastic Surgeon who I forgot to thank at the time from being so out of it and for checking on me throughout. Worst experience I’ve ever had. Went in seeking help for nausea so I could go back to work and was treated, if you can call it that, by Dr. Amaali Lokuge who was so rude, unpleasant, dismissive, and unempathetic. She ran no tests, did no patient history, and just totally dismissed my concerns, didn’t know what my pre-existing condition was, and was so adamant to not listen to me I walked out after just five minutes with her. I am shocked and appalled that she is able to treat patients. I hope anyone who googles her name finds this complaint - she is an absolutely incompetent, useless excuse for a doctor and I feel sorry for anyone who has to be treated by her.

Unfortunately I did not have a good experience with the cardiology department. They misunderstood my condition and did not get back to me at all, in December. I tried to contact them again in late February but the secretary was kind of rude and I have never ever heard back from them, even if they told me they were going to call me. What someone should do to book an appointment? It shouldn't be so complicated, just arrange a date and time (even if it is in one year because is a free one it does not matter) but do not keep people on hold!

Hi, I've been trying to get an appointment since May. I have been on the three month waiting list as an urgent patient. I call everyday hoping to get an appointment to no avail. I was supposed to see a specialist at this hospital before the end of August. The Royal Melbourne Hospital admitted to putting my referral through incorrectly, I hope this does not impede me getting an appointment. I was informed this was imperative in making the decision about if or when I require surgery. I don't know what else I can do, I hope someone sees this and helps. My vision and life is dependent on these decisions.

The appointment process for few of the conditions like void trail after the delivery is not good. I had multiple void trails after my normal delivery. The first trail they scheduled appointment and there were no appointments scheduled for upcoming trails. Every week need to go emergency or to specified floors. You need to wait long to assign you ward. Last time waited nearly 2 hr to assign me ward. There were no midwives assigned to my case, had to wait them to get assigned and start process. With catheter, stitches it will be hard to sit for hours. You have to wait too long to get you seen by your gynecologist. I had bad experience with catheter insertion, 2 people pricked in multiple places other than urethra and it was painful for 2 more days. I have not got call from them yet for my next appointment, if I call to hospital number it's always busy. Please do schedule appointments in prior and keep the plan ready for the same.

If you want to be berated, bullied, looked down upon and made to feel like you’re not doing well as a first time mother then this is the place to go! If you want to be yelled at for being 10mins late for feeding time this is the place to go to! If you want to be looked down upon for why you haven’t had a shower (I’m sorry I’ve just given a natural labour two days ago) then this is the place to go to!! Rainbow clowns and rainbow agenda is all they care about. Once you’re in, you’ll never be able to get out of there system and they treat you worse than a mental asylum. The little condescending games they play is absolutely disgusting. They first welcome you like they care, make you feel vulnerable and then use it all against you. The saddest party of all this is that they are meant to be a woman’s hospital, advocating and supporting woman. The only support they give is one that fits their agenda, their narrative and most importantly one that pays their pay cheque. NEVER AGAIN!!!!

Can't speak highly enough of the staff at RMH. From HITH, Emergency, to Transit Lounge, to the Ward. All absolutely exceptional!! Terrific options in the Cafe. Prices are high, but many healthy options and caters for anytime. Only complaint? Parking!! O.M.G. .... with all the works happening in area, there are no car parks close to all the hospitals unless you're staff or, you get here before 600am or after 430pm. There is 3 or 4 hour street parking along Flemington Rd- good luck. Would recommend dropping off patient, or take public transport.

Sitting in the emergency room for 5.5 hours with no progress. Half the people in the queue have Covid. It feels like no one cares; there aren't enough people. How can you call it an emergency place if someone with blood clots has to wait for 5.5 hours? no one cleans here too, not sure where the fundings are going if nothing works well. Last time we have been here with blood clots problem, nurse gave us burden after 4 hours of waiting and let us go home. Shame

🎶I can't liiiiiive, if living is without you...I can't liiiiiiiiiiiiive, I can't live anymore.. On a more serious note this public hospital is amazing. Most people complaining should remember that it costs nothing for top class medical care and the staff don't ask for anything so please be nice to them. Remember people are more inclined to be helpful when you are nice to them

The people here are great, very polite and helpful. But the waiting time in the emergency room is just..... forever, we were here at 10am in the morning, we are still waiting at 5:45pm for someone to come back to us and tell us what is going on ? Are we staying here overnight? Have an appointment to come back ? Or what is going-on ? What a waste of time...

My brother was admitted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital after a very serious gyrocopter accident. When I tried to contact the hospital to see if I could talk to him all three people I spoke to were extremely helpful. They were efficient and caring and when I was finally put through from Emergency to ICU the staff member there went out of her way to let me talk to him. A terrific job from efficient and caring staff. Thank you all. Kevin.

I give the royal Melbourne hospital a zero rating ........ but I make an exception for ICU I can't fault them ,! But the wards are aborhant the nurses are uncaring no compassion for patients my husband was there for two weeks and only got 2 showers in all that time , I made his bed daily .The only time the nurses acted like heath professionals was when I put in a big complaint .the communication is appalling. Tha k God my husband has gone to another hospital Where I know he will be cared for.tgis hospital needs a big shake up there is a no care factor of most of the nurses there

We were ask to attend for an elective planned surgery. This is a second procedure follow on from the first. The 1st admission process was smooth with minor hiccups that we overlooked because we were happy with the surgical outcome. The second procedure we were aware that we might be the 3rd listed for surgery. We were advised to attend for pre-admission procedure at 6.30 am. We did as we were told. The nurse advised us that we might be called in at 1130hrs to get ready to be taken to theatre. We waited, waited and waited and no call for theatre or a decency of an update on the delay. We attend RMH at the surgeon request which we know is best with the expert in the field here. We attended as private patient in a public system. We don't have any problem with that arrangement either. But someone who is highly anxious with heighten anxiety and a delay such as this is entirely unacceptable. It further exacerbated with such appalling poor communication. Providing the best health care does not stop at surgical outcome alone, but how the patient and the family made to feel the entire experience will be what constitutes best health care. I don't know this is a result of poor training where empathy is out of the window or complete complacency of the public system. If one were to admit to ED, with no bed within 4 hours will be a red flag. Not until we approached the reception staff we received an update. What has been a good encounter is tarnish by such lack of attention to basic courtesy of good communication. Very disappointing today.

I want to give a big shoutout to the nurses in the Acute Medical Unit ward for taking care of me <3 especially Sharmaine, Peta, Chanelle and Louise!!! You guys made my time there so much better and comfortable! Even though I'm not exactly a typical patient there, thank you for being so caring and thoughtful around me✨💛
