We celebrated our daughter’s 21st birthday last night & loved every minute of our experience at Waterfront Southgate. Our waitress Anna was so friendly, welcoming & attentive the whole night. All our meals were superb from the presentation, quality & divine flavours. To finish our evening we enjoyed a couple of the special desserts & our daughter’s was brought to her with a lovely message & candle which she loved! 10/10 for everything & a big thank you for the best evening out.

We came to this fantastic restaurant yesterday night and the experience was super duper. The food was not only delicious but also looked amazing. I also had the best service ever from Anna. Shes really nice and helpful. ❤️ Cant wait to go back. ❤️

This lovely restaurant situated on the lovely waterfront had such a great vibe and the seafood/steak was delicious, it tasted fresh and tasty. However the service was a little slow but understandable as it was quite busy however they should really employ more staff (at one point I had to get up and pour myself some sparkling) Overall, it is great for tourists as the food was good and the views and atmosphere is quintessentially Melbourne.

I am giving this 5 stars but I want to give it more. My wife and I had an excellent dinner of entree oysters, salmon, barra (mains) and sorbet trio (shared dessert) The service was exceptional. Beautiful Seafood Restaurant on the South Bank of the Yarra. Had an outside table, but the Sashimi bar looked fun too. Oysters and Sashimi can’t really go too wrong anywhere with this, but above the norm in taste and quality. However the Pork Belly was excellent. Service slightly slow, but understandable during this post Covid blues. Bottom line $260 for two. Recommend.

We had an early dinner here before going to see Elton John. Overall the food was good but not quite up to the standard you’d expect given the prices. My steak was overcooked, still edible but obviously sat on the grill a bit too long. Our waiter was friendly but seemed to want to rush us a bit. So I came here after receiving a voucher for my birthday. My first impressions was it seemed over priced and a tourist restaurant in the heart of south bank. I walked away impressed but now sure if I will return quickly as it does feel like a little tourist trap as the prices were a little over the top. The T-bone special was good and they pear salad was actually yum. I have to say the waiter was very good

I had a really lovely experience here! They were very busy, but the staff were professional, got us a table with no booking and attentive without being pushy. The food, while pricey, is absolutely delicious. The entrees were a real highlight!! The pork belly was incredible as was the sushi. For mains, the steak was cooked perfectly, the salmon delicious. No room for dessert but they all looked amazing. Great wine list, beautiful location and delicious food made for a delightful evening!

Exquisite food with excellent service. Felt obliged to tip the extra 20% on top of what we paid. My partner had an excellent Moreton Bay bugs which literally melted in your mouth like butter. The steak I had (rib eye) was absolutely sensational, literally the definition of medium-rare. Wonderful service wonderful meals.

We picked up this restaurant among all others along the water as this one seems nice and beautiful. However the experience was just alright which doesn’t match the price at all. We first asked if we could sit outside and got replied back as in we need to wait for around half ‘n hour. We agreed to wait in the bar but got actually seated in a table indoor. The appetiser was served after we ordered everything which was of very bad quality as well. The mains are actually fine but the service is terrible. The waiter never ever came back to our table after ordering and was standing around chatting with other staff. It might be a personal thing on the service but honestly, even one smile on his face would help a lot on the service. I traveled to Melbourne but will never come back again and get very disappointed at this first time.

A very relaxing restaurant where we had dinner. It is frequented by tourists and office workers alike. I had great oysters and Tasmanian Salmon here. The service was excellent and they have an extensive wine list. We were not rushed and took our time eating and watch the world go by on the side of the river. There is indoor and outdoor dining. Its not cheap but the quality of food and service was worth every penny. It seemed quite busy but we got a table without a reservation. It might be worth reserving a table in advance.

Grand Final lunch at Waterfront was exceptional - what a beautiful place, so classy with a gorgeous view. The menu has a great range of seafood & steaks, with one chicken dish which was delicious, fresh, tender & flavoursome, the steak also cooked to perfection & the veggies & salad were mouth watering. Definitely worth the visit. GO PIESSSSSSSS!!

Went for lunch earlier today and were overly surprised by the world class service we received. Extremely attentative waiter (who’s name we unfortunately didn’t catch but turned out to be Greek, not that it makes any difference) who already knew the answer/question before it arose - on top of being proactive without pushing for anything (he mastered it to perfection). The food (we had a shared sushi plate to start with and then the Morton Bay Bugs) was superb and worth every penny. Will without question come back - if not for the service alone, as this place sets the standards - next time we’re in Melbourne.

Although it was a cold, rainy Melbourne day, out on the terrace the overhead heating made it very pleasant. We tried a selection of dishes including chowder, seafood from the grill and dessert. Everything was delicious, with the whole flathead being particularly popular. While we didn't try any of the range of steaks this time, they did look delicious as they came past. While at the pricier end for dining, the food didn't disappoint. If you like seafood and/or charcoal grill, give it a try.

Celebrated a milestone birthday, party of 4 we sat all afternoon drinking delicious cocktails. The food wasn’t the best we’ve had, but still okay. The lamb was probably the nicest and a generous serve. The pumpkin ravioli wasn’t great, couldn’t really taste any pumpkin. Service started well but then we had to ask a few times where our drinks were. The atmosphere is great out on the terrace.

I've never been to Watergate before, but I'll definitely be back. It was so hard to decide what to eat, I could have ordered one of everything! The food was absolutely delicious. Cocktails were surprisingly fabulous, service was five star and the setting on the Yarra River is spectacular. Can't wait to return.

Deserves at least 4.5 stars as overall the food was really good but the rib eye was slightly overcooked and the roquette salad was a tad sweet. Sorry for nitpicking but e would highly recommend dinning here, the service was good and reasonable value also.

This place lives on its location. In my opinion it does not deserve the current Google ratings (that's why we chose this place). I ordered soft shell crabs. They came fried in a heavy (think fish and chips) beer batter. This was not mentioned in the description. Completely overwhelming the crab. Also a whole snapper that also came heavily breaded and fried. Also not described on the menu. I mean who fries whole snapper? The place looks great from the street, but doesn't deliver on the experience. I was bumped by busboys hurriedly trying to clear dirty dishes, and waiters rushing around. Skip this place there are SO MANY better choices in Melbourne that represent much better food and value.

This sitting focused on seafood - raw and grilled as in sashimi and a perfectly done Atlantic salmon served with crisp skin and crumbly porchetta for flavor balance and harmony. The cheese plate is huge; suggest sharing if you’re not a cheese fan. Penfolds grandfather port is an ideal accompaniment to this “assiete de fromage.”

Just had a great night with friends at Waterfront Restaurant, Melbourne. I had the fish and leek pie, my husband had the blue eye cod in mussels and prawn bisque, our friends also had seafood dishes and all thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The waiter that we had (his name was Peter I believe) was AMAZING, he was super attentive and was regularly checking in on us to see if we needed anything. The food was beautiful but obviously the prices are quiteee expensive and I really can’t justify some of the prices. For example we were under the impression our sparkling water would be free like most places but it ended up costing $24?? Cannot justify that. But apart from that we still had a good feed, the Seafood Linguine is to die for, and we had a lovely night!

Pre theatre dinner, arrived at change over so service was a little sketchy (5:30pm arrival). But improved once the floor staff got back on board (After 6pm), A couple of the runners seemed a little inexperience, got served normal bread after asking twice for gluten free bread, lucky my wife wasn't celiac otherwise it could have been a much different scenario. We started with a sashimi platter all cuts we're really fresh, for the main course eye fillet, mussel pot, fries and a side garden salad. Steak was a little dry for a medium rare cook, mussels cooked in a tomato base tasty without being amazing, fries were soggy I suspect they were sitting around for a bit and salad was good in terms of portion size. Not sure it was value for money, I think there a way better options for that price point.

Great place on the waterfront. The only minor issue was that they were out of stock on the wine by the glass which was in the menu (Shiraz). Therefore, I had to order a bottle of another good Shiraz, which I wasn't planning on doing. Will it deter me from returning absolutely not because the food and atmosphere is very good, but it did cost me an extra $100 for that night.

This is a lovely restaurant right on the waterfront by the Yara river. Its a great place to people watch and lovely to go for a special meal. The restaurant has an open kitchen and both it’s fish and meat are on display for you to choose. All in all this could be one of the very best fish restaurants in Melbourne. It also does great steaks of which one was on the special board. It was fab except for the chips which must have just come out of the freezer. For a restaurant of this quality and cost what are they doing! Only a small point considering the rest of the food and the restauarant itself but enough to be demoted to 4 stars.

The waiters gave their best and very genuine in catering their clients, although the restaurant was quite busy at that time. Respect for that. Everything was set in a romantic way, a good place for date.
