If you do come here even a night it is bad, I stayed here with some friends and the conditions where horrible the room was so cramped and the keycards if they're near any credit cards they deactivate no hotel I've ever been to has done that. There are no places in the room to get changed and there are charges if you make it too messy which it already was. One night was painful enough because the spring beds dug right into your back. The cleanliness wasn't good so I hope you don't make the same mistake I did by coming here avoid it if possible you don't get your moneys worth!

0/10 do not recommend. The rooms feel like orphanage rooms. To get to the top bunk is a jungle gym, no ladders or anything. There was music playing WAY too loud right below us in the nightclub which deprived us of any sleep. We called the management and they did nothing about it. It would be better spending more money for an actually decent hotel, rather than this loud, sleep-depriving disgusting hostel.

Worst hostel in life. I made a booking reversal and when I arrived at my room I realised that there was no hot water in the shower. On the third day I am going to notify the reception and they tell me that it is in poor condition. But no one informed me when doing the Check in. The pool table didn’t have all the Balls. The ping pong table had no paddles. There were two TVs that didn’t work. I asked for a refund of my reservation and they didn’t want to return my money. They gave me only credit, credit that I will never use because I am not going to make a booking with this company ever again in my life.

Not impressed Feel very mislead, from photos to how it's actually looks is a vast difference. It's run down, shabby looking and frankly quiet gross. Paint peeling off the walls, rusty pipes in the dorms, key cards are temperamental and there was only 3powepoints for a room of 6, so if you're last home at night you don't get a PowerPoint. I chose this hostel due to how nice it looked and mainly for its facilities of kitchen and washing machines and it was pointless. No washing machines working which makes it very difficult when I was working 12hours a day and couldn't get anywhere else to do washing. Communal kitchen was rather gross, not much cooking equipment and what there was it was broken, not working or packed away filthy and I was worried of getting sick from using the kitchen. The dining area above the kitchen is foul and not sure it's been cleaned in a long time, there was something resembling rat droppings on the floor. Continental breakfast included was pretty poor effort it was white bread or cornflakes. Bathrooms were average at best and not sure the showers get cleaned to much. The bathroom looks nothing like the photos on their website. You can't have a warm shower as the water temperature constantly changes from warm at best to completely freezing and the pressure is really inconsistent, the floor gets super slippery, I slipped and fell in there one evening. I've paid less and stayed at nicer backpackers in the past in lots of places including in Melbourne and I'm regretting that I stayed here.

This is not a safe hostel for solo travelling women. I have never experienced anything like I did in this hostel. I was funnily enough staying in an all female dorm but a man on my floor intimidated me and followed me around for two days straight and cornered me in the kitchen. I complained to the staff but all they did was move me to a different floor. The whole hostel does not feel safe and good luck if you want a nights sleep, the music from the reception area is played until all hours of the morning. It is impossible to hear anything at reception when checking in and the music is so loud it travels up to the third floor where it feels like it’s in your room. There are no lockers for some of your personal belongings and most of the beds seem to have stains on them from what I could see in the two rooms I was in. I felt so unsafe I only stayed the two nights out of the six I had booked. Avoid at all costs.

I was very unimpressed with this place. The rooms were dirty. They were never thoroughly cleaned. I am sure half of the stuff on the floor was left behind by other backpackers. The communal bathroom had an awful urinal smell and reminded me of facilities you use while camping. The night I arrived I was taken to a room in which the beds weren't ready and I had to make my own along with two other gentleman checking in also. This happened to 3 other guests during my week stay here. The business couldn't figure out which beds were vacant or not and when in doubt would do nothing. The hostel wasn't that great for the value and they don't hold mail even though I was told otherwise. All in all this place was an utter disappointment. I would never recommend this place, well maybe to my enemy's.

If I was to sum up my stay in a word it would be dissatisfying. The room I stayed in was a 6-person dorm and made me feel very claustrophobic due to a lack of floor space, tightly packed bunk beds, a window that wouldn’t open, and an awful smell in the room (see below for image of room). The spring mattresses were uncomfortable to lie on and the bedside socket was awkwardly positioned half way up the wall, making it difficult to position your phone when charging. The kitchen, like most hostels was crammed at peak times, with very little space in fridges, kitchen utensils were satisfactory. The best part of my stay was the gym, which is nicely kitted out with Rogue squat racks, dumbbells up to 30kg, an assault bike and sled push.

Had booked a private room with parking way in advance. A few days before arrival, the room was suddenly under renovation, så they had moved us to the dorms (with a full refund, credit for that). But then less than 24 hours before arrival, they suddenly cancelled our reservation completely... thats a horrible inconvenience as we are driving from Adelaide and due to the Eras tour nothing else is available. Communication is inexcusable.

The staff was okay, LG area was nice and lively. They dont have a ramp to reach G floor and I broke one of my luggage’s leg white trying to take it up with stairs. They have nice double story space which makes the hostel feel nicer. The kitchen was really nice. However, even tho all the common spaces were mostly nice, it’s absolutely terrifying in the room. I was shocked to discover that they don’t have any cabinetry/ storage space in the room. There was no real space to keep your luggage as well. The room was full of dust and there was lots of trash under the beds. With the white linen and one small pathetic window it really does feel like prison. When I entered the washroom, I was welcomed by a dead bug stuck on the door. During my stay there of 1 week they never cleaned the washrooms or the rooms at all. They just come and change the trash can bag. On my last day there, I experienced abuse from a person I was sharing the room with, I was told he will be kicked out but no action was taken against him. They simply don’t care about anything. I don’t understand why they have such high prices. Thoughtless, dirty and unsafe.

I loved staying at this hostel! The Customer Service team are super friendly, big thanks to Candice for helping me throughout my stay. :) Also the facilities are very good , clean rooms and the events were super fun. Would 10000% reccomend this place & would book it again myself in a heartbeat.

The Village is a reliable and awesome accommodation but you need to get rid of your awful security guards. I’m a regular who’s been supporting the Village for over 3 years and I’m appalled by the treatment me and some of my friends have received at the hands of one of the security guards working. You shouldn’t bother people resting or just catching a nap on the upper floors. Life is tough you know? Who are they harming? After 14 hours waiting at the hospital and arriving at the Village I fell asleep by accident and was treated appallingly by one of your guards. I woke up to him grinning and standing over me and mocking me. Security guards should serve to protect guests from sexual or fellow guest violence and go above and beyond to make sure guests and non-guests both have a memorable impression of the Village. ESPECIALLY regulars! Tell your guards to value your regulars as the income stream they bring is invaluable! Reception is great and go above and beyond to help and value regular and seasonal guests. Security staff should be trained to do the same to ensure lasting crucial customer satisfaction.

Tried to charge directly using my card without my permission. Should be punished! There is no ladder to up on top of the bunk bed. I had to climb. There are no lockers in the room to store and lock personal belongings Elevator broke, had to climb 8 flights of stairs with heavy suitcase Cleanliness is good and staff friendly.

Pool table doesn't have any cues that aren't broken, the rooms have people fresh out of jail staying in them, it has a nice bar to get a good pizza but do not book any nights stay here. Beware no refunds only credits available which I personally would never use because this is a horrendous hostel thanks but no thanks, I donated 90 bucks and went and checked into another hostel within the hour I visited The Village.

DO NOT STAY HERE. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. The management decided to cancel our bookings within one week of our trip. When we called them they almost never picked up the phone and then they finally did they weren't apologetic in the slightest and pretty much told me to go figure myself out. Since this was a busy period in Melbourne, we couldn't get anything for our two night stay for else for less than $1000. So, we had to pay these same people $200 per person (around 5 times the original price) for a different booking in a downgraded room. The staff even told us via a message that our cancellation was "probably for the best as we would not like our stay there". Indeed, we hated it, but it was our only viable option besides not going to Melbourne at all. When we got there we had to experience all of the following: the lobby elevator smelled like old urine; the sheets were stained; the walls had mold in them; the aircon in the room was not operable; the treatment given to us by the staff was simply terrible (if they were ever available, as they were insanely under staffed); they had us in a really crammed room; the bunk beds did not even have stairs for us to reach the upper bed; the levels smelled like old food and feet; and there was a bunch of food rubbish in our room that just hadn't been thrown out. If you have the capability of going somewhere else, do so! Don't taint your trip to Melbourne with a horrible stay.

Common area and kitchen are alright, but the room itself is horrible, bunk bed doesn’t really have a ladder, so you’ve to step on the side of it to climb up. No locker in the room and there are lockers for rent(which is kinda ridiculous to me, are we not deserve to have a small box in the room for the amount we paid for already?) which is located in the lobby, however it’s very inconvenient to go up and down considering the building have few floors. Each room has only one shower and toiler(together) so you have to wait for other people to finish(especially in the morning). The washbasin is about to break down anytime. Mold on the ceiling. Maintenance of the room could have be done better considering the price is not very cheap though, there are better hostel around the area, just so you know.

3 years ago I didn't stay in a hostel because there was always something I didn't like, but I can say that The Village is the best place to be in Melbourne. The rooms, kitchen and all spaces in general are very clean, they make me feel at home. The staff is awesome, very cheerful and they welcomed me very well, always concerned about me and my friends. The games room and gym are excellent, I will definitely return!

This is a hostel purely based on how many people they can cram into one small space, no thought for amenities such as lockers, towels or soap. It was unnerving sharing a room with people and having no good space to store valuables, especially as the vibe was not too dissimilar to a prison. The kitchen was ok and had plenty of space to store our food but it wasn't very clean, much like the rest of the place. The staff swept the first 6 foot into the room and then left, and the rooms are claimed to be cleaned frequently but we had rubbish under some of the beds and on the floor for about a week. Would have to be paid to stay here again 😬

Most of the rooms are crowded. Hardly any plug ins in the rooms. There's about 4 pots for the entire hostel and almost no cutlery. Kitchen always smells funny. It says free breakfast online but there is none. There's advertisements with great drink deals for the bar that closed a month ago. The current bar is pretty expensive. Only event they do is the free walking tour. Half the staff are really friendly and helpful but the other half are neither of those things. The building is in need of many repairs. The atmosphere is really friendly and you meet alot of great people but that's about the only good thing other than the price of this hostel

I booked a private room for two people before month ago, but when I checked in they just gave us a 6 person bunk bed room and the wall was moldy. Also the reception was always empty. wouldn't recommend. But the location was good.

Fantastic pricing but not without sacrifice - you get what you pay for. Great staff, very friendly and helpful. Cool on-site bar/club facilities - although I didn't personally get an opportunity to test them out. Common areas are also well decorated. However there are many small, easily fixable things that would have made it a much more comfortable stay. • Mold on the ceiling of the dorm. • No toilet seat in shared bathroom. • Open manhole with exposed wiring/piping in shared bathroom ceiling. • No lock on shared bathroom door. • Hair and other unknown build up on bed frames - could do with a more regular wipe down. • Unknown build up on dorm floors, could do with more regular sweep.

Awful. Simply awful. Dont spend your money here unless you like living in an overcrowded dickensian work house+ university frat… you could tell the place hasn’t had a decent cleaning in YEARS… if i was the management i would resign in shame! They have no interest in providing backpackers with decent accommodation this place is just a cash cow to them as evidence by how crammed in you are with your fellow guests…

Room, service and location were all excellent. Be very aware this is a hostel. In it's purest form. For some reason, I thought that $170 for one night would get me a room in secluded, quieter part of the establishment. Not so. My room on the 3rd floor faced directly on to the common area (it appeared they all do) which was frequented all through the night by numerous drunk travellers, using outside voices, slamming doors and dragging furniture along the floor. Concrete floor. Everywhere. All sounds are amplified. No respect for other guests. But, that's a hostel. If you are a light sleeper, you will struggle to get a decent rest. If you can sleep through anything, you'll probably find it a great place.

So far, they screwed up my booking from a double bed to two singles.. no-one contacted me. Fine. Left luggage at front desk while I went out. Have been trying to check in for the past 20 minutes at 3.49pm.. no-one at front desk.. no-one answering phone.. other staff members refused to answer me until I had screamed 'hello?' at them about four times. Told to just wait for front desk guy to come back. Waited another 20 minutes until random female staff member was at the service desk.. no-one answered the phone in that time despite me constantly dialing. While I waited I noted numerous males coming down stairs and flopping down onto the couches and going to sleep.. I also started to notice the numerous large holes in the walls all over the place. Staff member apologised for the wait.. fine. Got the key card and went to the room. I was given a three bunk bed room that was still dirty.. beds unmade.. mattresses on only three beds.. piles of dirty clothes on the floor and clearly, they had moved a long term resident out so I could stay the one night. Nope. Not for me and not for the double room price of $60. Went back to the front counter, told them about the room appearance, and demanded my original room. They couldn't do that as they were overbooked.. so I cancelled my stay on the condition I was given a full refund within 48 hours. They agreed to that so I went to Best Western opposite Southern Cross Station. For $65, I got a double room, private bathroom, tv, tea/coffee facilities, air conditioning/heating and an invaluable sense of safety. ** This place has long term residents which means young men who have been previously homeless and their places are paid for by charities to house them off the streets **

Stayed here 2x. The first time I stayed as a couple, the room was small but seemed clean, shared showers were fine and staff were friendly the first time. The second time I stayed was after a very long flight and I was not well. I tried to store my heavy travel bag there for the day so I didn't need to carry it, but the very rude American receptionist said no and told me to pay $8 for a locker and the price for the bed was already pricey. I stayed in female bunk room, the sheets seemed clean, the bathroom fine. Breakfast was okish. However, it's expensive and overrated and maybe a bit dodgy and dingy. I'd recommend this place to party backpackers who want to make friends.

Decent building, terrible security and management. Forged theft, incorrect claim without repetitions, was forced to leave without notice and without a care for safety and financial situation. $80 stolen from me in the process. They do not care about their guests, but let them/some thrive with mental illness and antisocial behaviour/stalking. Thanks! Please get psychiatrists and read about human rights.

Booked a private double bed room with private bathroom for new years eve for my husband and I in November. They only now send an email saying they overbooked and put us in a dorm room together instead or we can cancel. Disappointing experience, and emailing us so close to new years eve can't get a booking anywhere else . Just looked online and those private rooms are still available, they made no changes to adjust it.

They put us on the first plan: its literally sleeping over a club. Fantastic that the window got a filter like a hole and you can also hear people screaming . You cant sleep with also ear plugs. For the money that you pay its better sleep on the strict, total waste and stress increaser.

Nice place to stay. Very busy with a lot people. The bar is pretty cool and has a good price. The room was quiet good but the kitchen was just a complete mess. The people just leave it after making it dirty.

It’s what you make it really. If you’re positive and ask nicely, you will most likely get your way at this hostel. The guests are all pretty young, open and fun. The room is quite cramped and there is only one bathroom/toilet so there can be queues. Fortunately there are public bathrooms on level 3 and 4 where you can take a shower and not get hassled. The washing machines can have a queue of people waiting so I’d recommend washing something the day before you need it. It’s the same with the dryers, there are currently only two functioning, so I’d advise that you plan ahead or use a launderette nearby. The dryer will not dry your clothes after one cycle (45 minutes). It will take around three cycles unfortunately! Overall, a decent place to sleep and meet new faces.

Large Hostel with many guests... I was in a 6 bed room, which was ok, however with 6 bodies and lots of backpacks and cases lying around making a midnight trip to the bathroom hazardous in the dark... The kitchen was great but also very busy ... Lots of dirty unwashed plates left by some of the occupants ... Shame Overall a great place to stay... Walking distance to the City, Public transport and Queen Victoria Market

If I could give negative stars I would. SOME of the staff were nice, some of them were incredibly rude. It was absolutely filthy all of the time - the kitchen made me want to vomit (smelly and dirty - fridges broken and sickly). Cleaners would come in loudly in the morning, sometimes multiple times in a day - and yet i could not tell what they tried to clean. The whole place is just filthy and ridiculously overpriced. Aircon didnt work - rooftop wasnt even open. An absolute joke. Go literally anywhere else.

A place of many contradictions. On the one hand the gym and the bar are in fantastic condition. However, the rooms on the other hand are not. There is barely enough space to move around, the bathrooms are squalid, and some of the bunk beds are inaccessible, requiring insane feats of gymnastics to get up. What takes the cherry and why I felt obligated to post this review is the fact that music is blasted until the early morning. If you value decent comfort, sleep, and peace of mind your money is better spent elsewhere.

Mixed feelings about this backpacker. There are some good things like the fact no alcohol in the Common area where the kitchen and rooms are. It makes it not a party area so it's pretty quiet and you can sleep well. Kitchen is a good size but lack of plates, cups.. and I can't believe they are using plastic cutlery!!!!! It's 2022 what about reducing waste. My room 6 beds was ridiculously small and really not clean. Staff seemed nice and friendly. Downstairs bar with games area was nice.

Positive: Good location, aircon in the room, have 2 pool tables and gym. comfortable bed compared with other hostels and have electric plugs for charging your phone. Negative: poor cleaning in our room and bathroom (we had a 6 dorm), floor was not properly cleaned, I saw a few ants.

  • 3/5 ihate t. 4 months ago on Google
It's a party hostel, so the facilities are ok, the wifi is not good, but there is always a crowd in the bar in the evening and you get a free drink on your arrival for your first night. Easy to connect if you're interested in going out. There was only one bathroom in an 18 bed dorm

Very nice place. You should get the room with 4 or 6, you kind of have some privacy on each bed, also your light and power plug. Thales and Tai both work at reception and are always happy and willing to help you, thank you! You guys deserve the best!!

Been there for about two weeks. First impressions were great cause the lobby has a great vibe. They got very comfortable sofas in like every corner. But the rooms are a huge Problem. You cannot really open the windows so there is no air-circulation and the smelly air stucks inside of that room. That might also be a reason why you could get sick more easily. The other big problem with the rooms is that it feels like there are no doors. You can hear every little thing outside of the closed door. Especially on the weekends its getting very loud and it seems like the other people outside of the room are shouting directly next to your ear while trying to fall asleep.

The Village is probably the most welcoming community I’ve had the pleasure to be apart of. BIGGEST S/O to Sandy, Nic and Connor for being the best village crew a solo traveller could ask for - fun, caring and generous in many ways! Very open atmosphere, friendly and stimulating. Absolutely memorable to say the least.

In short: the kindest and most helpful staff, great location, great rooms and common areas and above all, the best vibes. In long: This was the cheapest room I could find in Melbourne for Friday and Saturday night. When I saw this I was sceptical and my expectations were low. However, every encounter I had with staff was lovely. They saw me, they smiled, they did what they could to help and honestly, this isn't the sort of service I expected from hostels. So yeah, I could not reccomend it more. I wish I could name all the staff members because they all deserve positive recognition for the service they provided. I do remember Simone who just helped me by giving me an upgrade. She was/ is amazing :) Also shout out to the guys on the BBQ 🤙🏻

Lots going on inside and out of the hostel, weekly events with trivia host Jacob made my stay here so fun. really enjoyed my stay at the village, big common areas to meet people, clean rooms. the staff is so lovely and always helpful, especially jacob, who is hosting the trivia and the bingo, is such a fun guy, always worth it to join his events. at the weekends they are also open the night club which is definitely worth to go!

Very good place to stay for a couple of nights with low budget, lounge area with the billiards and ping pong tables were a great addition and the events are handy if you want to meet other packers. My biggest disappointment were with the rooms not having a heat system, besides that amazing place and well located.

Tai the wonderful young man who checked me in was a pleasure to deal with. This industrial accommodation style is typical of Melbourne and what it has to offer. The room was spacious and comfortable, the only gripe I do have is if you're going to pay $162.00 for a well appointed room, attention to detail is everything. It was great to have the tea and coffee facilities in your room, but please make sure that you also put the appropriate cutlery for it so your not having to bother front desk for something that should already be in the room. Otherwise apart from that, if the standard of these beautiful rooms are followed through with the little things that make a difference, you will be a cut above the rest. I would stay here again next time I'm in Melbourne.

Stayed here whilst backpacking. One of the best experiences I have ever had. The hostel is located close to everything. All of the staff are amazing, especially Jack and tiggy. The overall environment was awesome. Good events and good scenery 👌 👌

Hostel was aesthetic and great location close to the Winter Market/Victoria Market. Rooms were small with the basic beds. Privacy curtain would be nice but in room bathroom was good for what it was. Fun trivia at night with complimentary beverage if you joined and a comp bev ticket upon arrival. You can find friends, or be solo. Kitchens were well stocked and massive with one per floor.

Just stayed a night in a private room. The room was 90% clean and was quiet. If you need a bed, a bed is what you get. A table or even a photo on the wall would make a world of difference. Only 1/6 or so power points in the room seemed to work. Staff were friendly and service was fast enough. Can't really comment on anything else, a good budget option for a night.

Absolute best service Such friendly staff, Ty helped me out heaps. Great facilities for a sweet time socialising or cooking or hitting the gym. The bar is a vibe and mouthwatering pizza to top it off what more could you want in a hostel? Good times at the village :)

One of the worst hostels I have been (and I have been in lots of them around the world) Desk always unattended and never pick up the phone. Kitchen and rooms Filthy and with mouses. Hot water wasn’t working for a day. Elevators not working. Lights not working in the commune areas… TERRIBLE The only goof think is that the staff is friendly.

The hostel is alright, clean sheets nice receptionist-staff. But these 5 stars are really for Tony, the man who gives massages at Discovery Hostel. That man gives a fantastic holistic massage for a good backpacker friendly price. He has heaps of years of experience and knows exactly what he's doing. I went to him twice in the time I stayed there, and recommended him to a friend of mine. Thumbs up for Tony.

Private rooms worth the value. Would like to stay abit longer see how we go!

Staff are no less than hostile. Cleaning is poor. Business standards are bent to downgraded for customers if they choose, such as foregoing cleaning to annoy dormitory sharers. They do actually attempt to involve themselves in your life, as though its a homeless joint. Could write a thesis on its social pathology and pathenogenisis .

We booked a private double room for 1 night in the village and got a private shared room. The guy at the reception told us that it was a problem between Booking's reservation system and The Village calendar. Anyway, we stayed one night and we were tired. Luckily, there were 2 of us in the shared room. I don't know how 6 people can live together ... Time to eat !! Large kitchen without cutlery. No fork, only plastic knives and spoons. Plus, you can pay for the laundry by card when it is working ...

The elevator will drive you nuts, other then that. Its a nice easy going place. Get what you pay for.

Great rooms, big beds and perfect location. I'd never stay somewhere else! And a big thanks to Moli! You're a legend, thank you for giving that vibe in the hostel. Always friendly and helpful!

Was told I would receive a email with the code to the door before reception closed, they never sent it so I had no access to the hostel and had to try find other accommodation at 2am after a 12hr work day. Rang them in the morning they didn't care, they blamed me and said they refused to refund it. Worst experience ever I don't recommend this place.

I went to visit nice and clean friendly people nice lounge area and awesome kitchen the rooms are quite nice with balcony which you do share but it's cool anyway only downside the street it's located in is a bit off tap meaning there's a bit of drug activity people loitering and crazies yelling out

Keeping in mind that this is a hostel and it's not going to be the Aria hotel I was still upset with the conditions of this hostel. Arriving for check-in at the designated time on our booking we were waiting in the lobby for about ½ an hour before someone from the front desk could confirm our room was ready. Arriving in the room, sheets had questionable brown stains on some of the beds and a few of the upper bunks had broken slats- concerning when looking up from the bottom bunk! In our room only about 20% of the power points actually worked. Overall, like most hostels you're only really there to sleep and leave your bags and we certainly didn't want to spend any extra time at our room. Thankfully it's in a central area and easy to get out and explore.

Enjoyed my stay here with my friends although there was a mixup with our booking. Thankfully it was resolved quickly. I was told there was a rooftop but we didn’t get to access it. Also the other elevator is not working and the room tends to get really cold. Aside from that, staff were really nice and friendly.

BED BUGS! the hostel just payed for my friend laundry, I would have expect at least a free night after the bed bugs, and it took them a long time to switch her rooms. Shame and she is still itching. One elevator works and the hostel is very big. No kitchen on the second floor. At least the kitchen is good and has lost of space! In the luggege room there was paint on the floor, so my bag change coolers. I just love this hostel... Move d here because the other one was fully booked! Good backpackers! Like any other place

Discovery Melbourne is a nice place to stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Not a fancy place but the rooms are clean and tidy. Wifi is also available for a low cost. Cheap but great service. Its a place I would recommend to anyone looking for a decent and low cost place to stay.

Room clean with own bathroom (toilet and shower). Good be a great place if it wasnt so noisy. You ear almost everything from the common area and as it is a young backpackers hostel, you ear some drunk people until late.

  • 4/5 David 5 years ago on Google
The rooms are definitely nice. Good air conditioning and nice beds. There is a toilet and a shower in the room which actually is pretty good. The people who are cleaning didn't really do a good job, cause it was a bit dirty after a few days staying there. I stayed there for a bit over a week. The people in the reception are definitely very nice and helpful. The kitchen is unfortunately a mess and it misses equipment to cook properly.

Great experience very accommodating staff considering that it was a backpacker's. Very neat rooms and bathrooms, kitchens especially well setup taking into consideration the amount of rooms per floor. One suggestion is for more cold chain storage space.

Your approach is bad, you should not let people make noise after 10 pm then, you would find others staying in this place... It is 00:38 and people outside talking loudly and laughing.

I came to Melbourne with 10 friends from Sydney and this place was lovely. The guys from the reception were really nice and friendly. Everything was beautiful in decoration and rooms were very clean. We'll definitely be back here

Was the best vibes everyone we met there was absolutely amazing. Literally the best hostel we have ever stayed at would 10000% recommend to anyone. Wasn’t expecting much due to the price but absolutely blown away by the service, tai the person who checked us in literally had the best customer service i have ever seen. Would definitely stay here again!

Place is still not there yet, huge places but needs a lot of maintenance still and could do with few more cleaners maintaining the place, especially for the capacity of guest that it can hold.

  • 5/5 Jordan G. 1 year ago on Google
Great staff very helpful and accomodating. Understanding of needs for staying for work or holiday and allocate rooms accordingly. I wasn’t expecting much as it was my first experience, and I was surprised to have the most pleasant experience. There’s a gym downstairs, bar + restaurant, even a cafe for morning coffee and breakfast. The Village is managed exceptionally well.

This place is a must stay for young travellers in Melbourne. We received the star treatment before even checking in. Special shout out to Jack for being the friendliest manager and a fantastic chat! Wonderful people, great facilities, and Melbourne right at your fingertips! Could not recommend more!

Love the village ! I was planning to stay just for 3 nights. Somehow I ended up staying a month and half. All staffs are really nice and friendly (especially Mariana! Love you girl💕) Rooms are clean, good value for money. I had such a great time here with lovely people. Thanks for everything guys!

Arrived at 11.30pm after a 30 hours journey from the UK and had booked a double room for a week. On arrival I was told double rooms are “under maintenance” and all they could offer were dorms which we were then told were full!! At first tried to make it out to be booking.coms fault and wouldn’t give us a refund until I showed them the confirmed booking and payment taken from my account. I waited in the lobby until they had accepted to waive the cancellation fee and fully refund me. They’re still advertising double rooms on booking.com even though they don’t exist !!!

  • 2/5 Nicholas S. 2 years ago on Google
Pleasant enough stay. The room was virtually neat and tidy and served its purpose. If I could give negative stars for communication I would. I received the confirmation email from Management after 2 days after we checked in. Not to mention the phones aren't even connected, as when the number was dialled, we were sent straight to a "this line has been disconnected" message.

Very unreliable. We booked an accommodation way in advance to secure a comfortable stay around the Grand Prix track for the F1 event. They confirmed all is fine a week before the date only to try to make us cancel few days later due to unforseen emergency circumstances. Appears our room has been listed again for much higher price. Our alternative costs for a similar accommodation now are much higher. Anyway, by the look of previous reviews seems their hygiene standards are probably good to avoid.

  • 1/5 Lucy G. 2 years ago on Google
Please be warned that there is nearly no security. The front door doesn’t lock, lifts have no security, only rooms have locks. There are nearly no staff, so no one is being watched. As a result people are doing anything they want. It is also not cleaned regularly, so it is really dirty in communal areas and rooms. I am sad that this is the quality of hostel that Melbourne puts on. People will keep staying because of the price and lack of alternatives.

I booked I private bedroom and they gave us a 6 people bedroom which clearly wasn’t been cleaned. Then, they give us another room 6people bedroom. The kitchen was dirty and without basic utensils like forks, spoons, glasses or mugs. We had to boil water in a saucepan to make coffees. They also have a huge puddle outside our bedroom, we stayed 4 nights and didn’t mopped or cleaned at all.

Absolute worst joint, me and my mate rock up to check in pretty much straight after our flight and when we get there, no one was on reception so we had to call a phone number. After we called the number 4 times we finally got an answer where the lady on the phone was extremely rude and told me my booking had failed even though payment was taken 4 days earlier. Absolutely no remorse or help given would not suggest

My friends and I have stayed here for the last week, would highly recommend it to anyone. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Would like to praise Rabi who stayed behind 45 minutes after his shift ended to make sure that we checked in as we got there late, if he hadn't we would have ended up sleeping in the car! Really appreciate him for that.

Such a nice place! Great location, close to everything!! extremely nice staff, the guys are always helpful! The room was nice and well prepared and a big plus for my own bathroom!! The place went through a renovation recently and it’s nice and refreshed! They also have a rooftop! Great place to stay and good vibes! 😁

Very crowded place. My floor only had 2 toilets for the entire floor. So there was a long line every morning. The rooms were separated far from common area which made it good at night when people wanted to sleep. Laundry was expensive, $9 for one complete cycle. Kitchen was very big and lots of cooking space. Free rice bin for guest. Lots of food freebies left on shelf for people to share. The couches and chairs were old and broken. Soon as you walk out the front doors is smoking, and you can't escape the smoke and are forced to walk through it all. Could be a very nice place, just needs some updates. Free towels to shower with was nice. But the shower was hard to maintain. It would go from super cold to super hot and kept switching.

Decent enough hostel with reasonable prices. The rooms go up to 16 beds which can be a bit much, the toilet facilities are quite large and relatively clean which is good. The staff are generally knowledgeable and friendly, the kitchen is large but there were not many pans or utensils. Even though there are tags to attach to bags in the fridges, I still had food stolen from my bag. Good location for town and for public transport, the wifi is relatively decent and it's not too loud there.

reception was supposed to be open from 9am but no one was there til like 1pm and my room with a double bed ended up being just two singles and it looks like jail. staff opened our door without permission to talk to us three times and forced us to move rooms like hello we paid for it?? honestly not worth the time n money yall go somewhere else

Horrible amenities. Went down to reception because one of the fridges had turned hot and ruined our food. I went down and asked them about reimbursement for the food and they said I needed to keep a photo of my bag and an itemized receipts. Like as if we are supposed to expect the hostels fridge to become an oven and retain both of those things. When my friend and I arrived my bed had no accessible ladder and i was sleeping on the top bunk. The cleaners also left the bed without a pillow on it so I used the blanket as both a pillow and blanket. The bar staff are quite cool. But all in all, a dump and a bad stay.

Warning: Do not stay here. One of the worst hostels in Melbourne's CBD. 1. Endless door slamming. 2. Incessantly loud pop music from the bar. 3. Overpriced drinks. 4. Distant and unfriendly guests. 5. Very hot rooms with no air con. 6. Lack of bathrooms and other facilities. 7. Very basic and lifeless gym. 8. Lack of kitchen storage space. 9. Condescending staff (some). 10. Cold and inhuman corporate vibes. This toxic and overrated hole impacted my mental health very negatively. I suffered from deep depression, loneliness and anxiety while I was here. I also couldn't get to sleep on the last night of my stay. Only the gym kept me sane. I was miserable and couldn't wait to leave. No one talks to you. Everybody keeps to themselves, so you just do the same. I can think of no positives to mention save the fact it's a convenient stone's throw to the Queen Victoria Market. Avoid at all costs. Don't let the decent prices fool you. It's only good for loud teenagers and overly extroverted twenty somethings, really. There was even a cardboard cutout of Taylor Talentless Swift. This increased my hatred of the place. Note: The security guard was also very unfair and strict with me. I tried to sleep in the gym because I couldn't sleep in my room. I wasn't hurting anyone. Just wanted to sleep as I'm not a mindless 20 year old Brit partygoer. For shame.
