As regular brunchers, my adult kids and I like to explore local cafes and today Indigo found this place and was eager to try it out. Having passed quite a few cafes that were closed we were pretty happy that The Pioneer was open. There are choices to sit out the front (on milk crates with wooden seats), inside that accommodates around 20 people or at the garden out the back. Set amongst dappled light of overhanging trees it is just beautiful especially if you have kids because of the exceptional playground. Being kid friendly the toilet is large, unisex and has a change table for babies. Plus it’s also wheelchair friendly. Food choices today were corn fritters, pork belly in a roll and rancheros. The iced coffee was excellent and not too strong. Portion sizes were good and when two of us wanted to share, I was given an extra plate and cutlery. Staff, Ella and Julian were brilliant. So helpful and very customer focussed. Was hearing about they have a regular parents group who comes here called ‘latte learners’ which is awesome. Good parking out the front. Wheelchair friendly. Very kid friendly. Takeaway drinks and snacks too. We will return.

Worth to try this Southern American cafe and there are lot of gluten free options. First time trying the pupusa, it’s yummy. The staffs are always in the back room…

After several visits my feelings are mixed - I love the food, but the service level varies significantly based on who's working that day. There are plenty of other cafes nearby, so I'll only head back to Pioneer if I have a real craving for tamales, yuca chips, or similar dishes which I can't get anywhere else in the local area.

The best brunch meal I've enjoyed in a long time! Come treat yourself post lockdowns to either beautiful French toast, or lovely Latin American inspired food!

Nice cafe with good atmosphere, choice of seating inside and out. Kid friendly to which is good. Service is friendly without being to attentative, meaning you could be ignored if you were wanting a second coffee. Food is nice, but does not stand out. My fritters were cold and a bit hard, almost stale. Nice coffee though

Stopped by for quick coffee and lunch. The coffee was so good, we all ordered a second. Avocado on toast was also nice. Very friendly and quick service.

Thought we'd try something different this morning. The hot chocolate was great, the smashed guacamole was so fresh and tasty. The menu has a Latin American theme. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

Came here to for breakfast, looking forward to a dish that I had seen online. Turned out it was off the menu. They saw my disappointment so went to the trouble to make it for me. This is service! They listened, they went above and beyond and delivered. Great coffee too.

Mom and sister rates the coffee here the best in Melbourne!! Service is fantastic, staff are friendly and u get beautiful authentic El Salvadorian food here. Miss the quesadilla here! Told them we dropped by to get my sister the birthday girl a coffee and she got a beautiful surprise Happy Birthday wish on her takeaway cup that made absolutely her day as she didn't manage to get the day off today due to work being hectic. Thank you Pioneer team! 🥰

Amazing coffee, great food and excellent service. The staff here are super friendly and even went out of their way to make dairy free Pupusas Revueltas which are normally pre-made. We'll certainly be back to enjoy this local gem of a Cafe 👍🏻

We understand the wait as they were understaff. But the food came out really disappointing. Cold fries and a burger that stated crispy bacon came out with ham instead. Fries were refried till overcook. The kitchen team does not seem they cared. All they care is to get the food out hopping the customer does not complain. When we did complain, their excuses is we had a table of 9 came in.

Hidden gem in Rosanna!! South American inspired brunch menu. We are amazed of how good the food are. The serving portion is also really great for the price. The coffee is fantastic. We will definitely be back again.

Can't believe I've lived nearby for 20 years and never stopped in ... until today! I've been missing the flavour and texture of tamales something fierce, and found them on my doorstep! Today I tried their corn-shuck wrapped sweet tamales which are served with frijoles and sour cream, and the owners were excited to meet a tamale afficionado. The taste and texture were wonderful - what fantastic, authentic home cooking! They have tables inside, a large group table, and a huge back deck for al fresco dining. My only request would be adding a savoury beef stuffing to the tamales with an enchilada-style sauce ... that would be my heaven!

My favourite local cafe to get my regular coffee and muffin deal. Bargain at $8! Coffee is delicious and friendly service. Really nice people and can't wait to go eat breakfast there once we are able. Update - finally got some breakfast here. Was a different menu than other cafes and I love the Spanish choices. Was tasty and filing. The only issues were the staff seem uninterested and we were the only ones there but didn’t chat or check on us at all. I felt like I was sitting in someone’s kitchen rather than a cafe. Plus it was so hot even though the aircon was on. There are so many cafes around, I feel they need to try a bit harder to keep up with the competition.
