Chitharal is located about 45 kilometers away from kanniyakumari. It is famous for the Rock-cut temple. Hillock  at Chitharal has a cave containing Rock-cut  sculptures of Thirthankaras and attendent  deities carved inside and outside dating back to 9th Century A.D. King Mahendra Varman I was responsible for the Jainism influence in this region.  It was converted into Bagavathy Temple in the 13th Century A.D. Cars and Vans can go upto the foot of   the hill. One has to walk for about 10 minutes to reach the temple. The Jain images have been preserved by the Central Archeological Survey of India. It comes under Vellankode panchayat.

Wonderful view from the top. A must visit place. You will have to walk for around 1 km to reach the top. But the view from the top is worth it. Remember to carry a water bottle and an umbrella if the weather is hot, as there are no shops available at the topThere are no fences or barricade on the top, so be careful and don't go to the edge.

High and windy place. Need to hike on a stone laid path, uphill the last 1 km though. Vehicle won't come till the point given on maps. Small ancient temple of archeological interest at the top. Need to be careful on the rocks.

The temple is located on a Mountain, the pathway is steep and had to walk about 500 metres from the base to reach the top. The place is clean, serene & views are magnificent too.

The most peaceful Area in between Kanyakumari and Trivandrum. I have visited several times mostly alone. You feel refreshed, energised and happy if you visit alone. Best timing Morning and evening. Sun set and the night city lights with wind blowing will make this place unique. Whenever I visit this place I have calculated and many unique things in my life. My Life-changing Place.

Avoid women going here. This is a very dangerous area. There is no security here. Special if the crowd goes to more friends.

It's a good short hiking spot. Butwas really noisy from the surrounding areas. The temple committee there made us pay parking fee just to keep our vehicle beside the road. It's scam.
