Absolutely fantastic diner on the famous Beale Street. We walked by and took a chance when the lady outside told us it was the best food in the city. She very well May have been right, because it was scrumptious soul food. I had the seafood gumbo which was excellent, and the pecan pie with vanilla ice cream was delicious. Somebody in our group had the apple dumpling with ice cream, and that was brilliant as well. Very much worth a visit, cheers.

Great food, huge portions. My kids were able to share a plate and have some left over. The customer service was great. We were stuffed, but the food was so good we had to have dessert. I’m happy we picked that restaurant over the many restaurants on the street. Do yourself a favor and eat there.

The Blues City Cafe was recommended to us by a wonderful woman named Phyllis at the Memphis Welcome Center - and she did not steer us wrong. We had the ribs and fried catfish platter. It came with slaw, baked beans and hush puppies.. and it was fantastic! We also ordered Jerry's greens which were excellent. A friend who was with us got the BBQ shrimp salad and cheese fries which were also awesome and huge portions. The waitress was fun and brought us a free brownie Ala mode, which was out of this world. I would highly recommend this place and will come back over and over.

This was a really good place to eat. First time here and was not disappointed. I ordered the chili cheese fries. The value alone was great, but the taste was excellent. The chili had a kick but wasn't too spicy and still flavorful. The fries were steak fries and cooked perfectly golden brown and held the chili and cheese well without getting soggy. It can take some time to get your food but we got seated quickly and only ordered appetizers so it was very quick for us. Really great food and highly recommended.

This place always makes me happy! BRANDON the man with the plan! He is one of the best servers Beal has to offer! The food is sooooo good! I believe their slogan is “Put some South in your Mouth!” I agree with them! Try it!! It’s amazin’!

Wonderful choices of food to pick from, but the Best Meal on Beal which includes ribs, catfish, slaw, beans and your choice of fries or new potatoes. Yeah, I went with the new potatoes and they were cook proper!! Ribs were delicious, fall off the bones and a good smoke flavor *no need for extra sauce, they were that good!! Catfish was also very good. Look forward to coming back to try out their other dishes. 5 star food, but our server didn’t seem so eager or happy to tend to us.🤷‍♂️

What a fantastic experience. Our server Christian (at least that's what he claim his name was) was absolutely amazing. We came to this establishment during our late night shenanigans and had a great experience!

Probably the best pulled pork street tacos I’ve ever had! Coupled with a cold Fat Tire, it made for the perfect lunch. My wife had the pulled pork platter. Was excellent, as well. We had bread pudding for dessert. The server was very attentive and personable. The place is old style, with a lot of old blues pictures and memorabilia on the walls. Not a fancy looking joint but that makes it even better.

If you are ever in Memphis on Beale St this is a MUST try! The service is fast and friendly. The food was so good I went 2 days in a row. Lol The gumbo is some of the best gumbo I’ve ever tasted. The shrimp was so huge! My brother enjoyed the ribs. He said they were falling off the bone. I was not disappointed!

Hostess was a bit on edge it seemed but not to bad. We had a male server who was good at what he did. Food was delicious I had the ribs and catfish. Ribs were a little to saucy for me but oh so tender literally slides off the bone and the catfish was spot on. Had some stuffed mushrooms which was also delicious. My daughter Memphis who was clearly named after the city enjoyed the tenders and my 2 year old son clearly enjoyed the baked beans!! Sweet Tea was good but that was my other downfall we didn’t really get around to getting refills.

So much fun! Great bands performed and the food was great!! Forfot to take pictures, I only had chicken tenders and fries, but they were the best, definitely made in house, not frozen in a box thrown into a fryer. Will be back!

I went with some friends to go out and eat before a Grizzles game. The food amount is very generous based on the price. I personally had the Catfish Plate and it tasted amazing. The restrooms are clean and nice.

Great place right on Beale street. The “best meal on Beale street” was excellent. Great ribs and awesome catfish. They were super crowded and the service was still great. I came to Memphis for ribs. Tried many places. I would say these were some of the best. Love their rub. Wish I had got some to bring home.

Stopped in for an beer and apps. Had the Seafood gumbo and 3 tamales with cup of chili. Tamales and chili where a good southern representation…as you would expect from this sites reputation. The Seafood gumbo had bits of various seafood and good flavor. Something between Cajun Creole and Low Country. Some expect a loaded bowl of seafood, this is not that type of gumbo.

So I had the ribs and the tamales. The tamales were okay. The ribs were excellent. Moist, tender, fall off the bone with a good meaty flavor and a wonderful sauce. Good prices and friendly attentive service.

Went here on a Sunday night. I was seated promptly. The waiter was extremely friendly and the food came out extremely quickly like in under 5 minutes which is the fastest I've ever been served. Overall I was pleasantly pleased and the fish plate was pretty decent.

Grabbed dinner here before heading out to listen to music. The ribs were amazing but the side of baked beans was out of this world good! Wish I knew their secret. Also we had a great local beer. Highly recommend.

Stopped in here from previous reviews alone. They serve huge portions. We ordered gumbo fries as an appetizer and not disappointed-soooooo delicious! We had 5 in our party and seated immediately, we arrived in the late afternoon. Our server never let us sit with an empty drink. Our food didn't take too long to come out. We had the Best Meal on Beale, the shrimp skillet, catfish, and steak and everyone enjoyed their meal! So delicious and so glad we chose to come here our one night in Memphis while on Beale St.

Came to Memphis to see Graceland. We decide to walk down Beale street to find some famous Memphis BBQ for dinner. This quaint little cafe boasted that they had the best meal on Beale and they did not disappoint. The service was very good and our waitress Veronica was very nice. The ribs were fantastic. I don't normally like BBQ sauce, but I like the sauce here. Being from Texas, where we are all about the bbq brisket, it's hard to find good ribs. I guess you just have to come to Memphis for good ribs.

WORST WORST WORST Worst customer service Food was cold Manager has major attitude and so did waitress. Barely ate any food and still brought our tab with full meals. On the way out waitress said peace out and try not to come back. Just horrible service We most certainly will never ever return. And i will never recommend.

This place is YUMMY. Perfectly situated on the corner of Beale, this unassuming place has really delicious ribs as well as catfish. We initially only ordered a half rack because we're hopping from BBQ joint to joint, but these ribs were so good that we got another half rack. The staff is super friendly, attentive and helpful. Will definitely be back and if you're looking for a chill place to grab a bite and decompress from strolling down Beale, I highly recommend.

The best thing about this place was the service and smiles. I give 5 stars for that alone! The staff were so accommodating..that it makes it hard to complain. However, I use google reviews faithfully to guide my travel so I want to be honest. I ordered the half rack of ribs and fries. It came with a cup of coleslaw and baked beans. Unfortunately I wasn’t impressed at all and felt that my husband’s ribs were better. They were falling off the bone...but the taste just wasn’t anything I was excited about and this place didn’t make me think “I can’t wait to come back..”.....which I won’t. It’s priced for the tourist and I am figuring that I can get way better ribs where the locals eat. My bill for 1 kid, 2 teenagers, and myself was over $70....absurd...and that was with 1 kid having a kid’s plate of chicken tenders and the other having a regular chicken finger plate. Myself and my other teenager had the ribs. I really wanted to love the food just because of the customer service we received..but...... it missed the mark for me.

Glad I got to experience this place! The food is sooo delicious! The peacan pie and apple dumplings you must must must try! The seafood mushrooms are small and underwhelming for 12.99. The toast was nicely toasted and buttery. Everyone had catfish on their plates when I looked around, so that speaks volumes. The waiters and waitresses were friendly. Pretty packed inside. We came on Saturday around 8pm. The street was packed. But we didnt have to wait for a table. Cover on Beale street is $5 after a certain time. Would definitely come back!

I didn't like the place. Fried catfish was just an imitation of what is supposed to be. Ribs were good but overpriced. Not to mention they run out of Guiness beer. Restrooms were anything but clean. I don't recommend it.

My son and I came here to eat April 6 2022.. When we arrived we were greeted by a Ms Tasha Drain who claims to be the shift manager for 17 years here. I asked Ms Tasha about the stew and gumbo…She said they were both good. I asked could I sample them both before I purchase to ensure I wouldn’t waste my money or their food in case I didn’t like them…. She said I couldn’t sample either I would have to order them to try them… I informed her that it didn’t make sense to do that because I was only going to send it back if I didn’t like it… She said well since I told her that was my plan that I wouldn’t be able to send it back now… I asked why not if I don’t like it. She reiterated her previous statement…. Reluctantly I ordered a cup gumbo and I was not pleased with it at all… Its called seafood gumbo and I literally only had one crawfish in the entire cup and I’m not even being facetious at all….The gumbo was subpar in my opinion and had I sampled it prior to ordering it I would not have order it….She claims that their establishment doesn’t honor samples however I do not believe it would have caused an uproar with upper management if she would have given me a spoon full of gumbo or stew to sample so I wouldn’t waste mu money purchasing something that I didn’t like…. It’s not like I asked to sample a rib tip or something that wasn’t easily obtainable… This made my experience here not good because I felt as though I was being profiled as a person who was trying to get something for nothing instead of a paying customer who was only trying to not waste my money or waste their gumbo sending it back…. She never even asked did I like the gumbo after It came out… She did ask my son how he liked his chicken tenders and cheese fries in which they also had his order wrong originally because he asked for regular cheese fries but they mistakenly brought out chilli cheese fries….Now im not the smartest person in the world but The mistake she made serving him chilli cheese fries wasted more money than a spoon full sample of gumbo I asked to try to prevent me from wasting my money… which I did waste because I did not like… Im not being a disgruntle customer Im telling the truth about my experience …Tasha told me to speak with Jason or another manager because it was nothing she could do…. Hopefully this is a learning curve or maybe they will continue to do business this way in the future… I honestly do not see the problem with given a customer a sample ( spoon full) of gumbo or stew to see if they like it before they purchase but maybe I would have to be in the restaurant business to understand why there is a ZERO tolerance on samples of gumbo….also my son didn’t like the dried out melted shredded cheese on his fried so that was also a waste of money

We ordered the Cowboy Ribeye Medium because we just knew it would be overcooked leaning more to Medium Well. Well we were wrong the Ribeye did not taste like any Ribeye I've ever had. When the waitress brought it out it was absolutely CHARRED CHARCOAL BURNED and that's what it tasted like. We asked for a Recook hoping for better..WRONG AGAIN this tasted like Bone-In Balogna saturated in grease resulting in me getting so sick. Safe to say I won't be returning anytime soon.

Absolutely delicious. I asked a police officer on the street where to eat and there was no hesitation when he directed me here. The food is cooked to perfection. I didn't know what to order but I could add on the shrimp and catfish onto any entree so I got the southern fried chicken. They also have a bar with an excellent selection of local beer. The food came out really fast and the staff was very nice. This is definitely the place to eat.

Service was the best about this visit as the food was not world famous in my opinion. I will say it was good but not great for BBQ and maybe I am being tough because I owned a BBQ restaurant and have had the chance to taste great BBQ over the years at competitions but it was really great service and I am sure when the drinks are pouring the place is hoping and good times are happening. Check another thing off our bucket list of things to do in Memphis.

This is my second time in Memphis and I must say, there’s no Memphis without eating here. I will admit my ribs were a bit dry, and not as juicy as I remembered them, but still is a great place to go.

WOW! First time in Memphis, and I stopped at the Blues City Cafe. OMG! This establishment is all that and then some! The food was phenomenal, Baby Back Ribs were Delicioso (delicious in Spanish), and the apple dumpling was so good that if I was not so full. I would have ordered 2nd's, the ambiance was awesome, and the service by Andrew was spectacular. He made great suggestions they were all Fabulous choices. If you are in Memphis, this is a must stop place to eat!! 5 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Location!

The only place that could take our last minute request of our 15 person group! We only waited outside for about 15-20min. There are plenty of seats inside and live music of course!! My husband and I ordered a mix of catfish, ribs, and gumbo. It was good. Their ambiance was very Beale Street!

Came to Memphis in August and my first meal in Memphis was dinner at the iconic Blues City Cafe. My main reason for going was because it was one of the filming locations in the movie The Firm. Unlike in the movie where Tom Cruise just has coffee and the FBI guys have “two steak sandwiches on a roll” (which by the way is not on the menu LOL), I had the half rack of ribs with baked beans, fries and coleslaw. The ribs were outstanding. So good and great flavor. The beans and slaw were also very, very good. Have been back two other times. The ribs were a bit dry the second time, but the last time I went, they were again exceptional. Quick, friendly service, lively atmosphere, classic diner vibe. Highly recommend.

I understand there’s a pandemic. But some people are unable to wear a face mask as some can be hospitalized. This establishment denied me because I am unable to wear a face mask. I have never been discriminated against and will never come back to this place. I don’t recommend coming to Memphis.

Wish I could give this place 4.5 stars: it didn't quite cut my 5 star criteria, but almost! Service was friendly. Most of the food was excellent (especially the ribs, beans, and greens). We shared the Best Meal on Beale, which, after an appetizer, was plenty. The catfish and slaw (way too mayo-heavy and bland) didn't quite impress. Perhaps the chief thing that kept it from reaching 5 starts was the ambiance: the place needed a little TLC to make the memorabilia shine.

  • 2/5 Victor G. 1 year ago on Google
I had high hopes for this place. I wanted a good seafood gumbo for my trip to Memphis and this place has been highly rated and recommended. Decided to give it a try and what a let down. The seafood gumbo should be listed as seafood flavored gumbo. No significant amount of seafood was to be found. I have gotten better seafood distribution in soups bought at a grocery store. The beer was $14 for a 32 oz and the cup of gumbo for 9.99. Not sure how the other food tastes, but I was definitely left feeling underwhelmed. The flavor was on point and the service was good, but overall I would not recommend it unless you want to be overcharged for middling food. Will not go again and would steer others to stay clear.

Our food was delicious. We asked our server what was the best, our first time here. He just proceeded to read off the menu. We ordered our food. Our server was the worst. He never asked if we needed anything or if everything was ok. So disappointing in that sense but the atmosphere and food were great!!

  • 3/5 Guillermo O. 1 year ago on Google
We ordered a full stack of ribs. The ribs were amazingly tasty and soft. The rest of the plate was a little in the small size for two people. The restaurant uses plastic cups for the side servings which I understand if it was a taco truck, but a brick and mortar restaurant that is not cheap should use regular bowls to help with reducing pollution and improve the overall experience. The food was the best part, but I recommend you order side dishes since it's not plenty. Edited to reflect that silverware was provided, just not regular bowls for side dishes.

So like someone else did, we asked a cop where to eat cause nothing was open and he recommended here. Staff was nice but food wasn’t what everyone makes out to be. Chicken was fried in burnt oil that hasn’t been changed in awhile, and steak which is terribly expensive was over cooked after asking for medium rare(was well). A can of pop was almost $3!!!
