I was expecting the best fried chicken ever. While it was indeed good, excellent crunch it was lacking a bit in flavor for me. The best thing I ate was the fried green tomato. I will say the service we were offered was VERY good. I wish I remembered our servers name but great service.

An Urban Classic !!! Gus's Chicken is iconic food. If you are ever in Memphis you should take the time to enjoy this famous brand of Fried Chicken. I make it a point to stop in at Gus's whenever I'm in Memphis for at least one meal. Gus's now has locations all over the USA, so there is no excuse for a fan of fried chicken not to stop in and try it at least once. On this fine fine sunny day in late June 2022. I drove into Downtown Memphis after visiting a customer in the area. I was seated right away and served almost immediately. The chicken was like always crispy, with a little spice and juicy and tender inside. The menu is not overly complicated, and selections are limited. The menu is centered around the Gus's experience, Fried Chicken with sides. Simple, wonderful and tasty. If you are ever in a town or city with a Gus's Fried Chicken, give them a shot you won't be disappointed !!!

Where my obsession for Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken started. While “living” out there for about a year I would literally eat here 3-4 times a week. Been to 9 other locations and even though they’re all very similar this is by far my favorite location. Best chicken ever with a nice kick for good price.

One of the few "destination" restaurants that actually lives up to the hype. If this isn't the best fried chicken you've ever had, it'll at least rank in the top 5. The chicken is crispy, juicy and flavorful with a nice, satisfying kick at the end..The Mac and Cheese is baked and was very good as well. If you come here during the lunch or dinner rush, expect to wait a bit for a table and for your food. There will also be a clutch of takeout customers parading in and out. But, really, the food is worth the wait and the crowd.

We waited about an hour to get a seat and it was well worth the wait. The chicken was crispy, hot, fresh, juicy, and flavorful. It had just enough kick to it. The mac n cheese and beans were also delicious. Our service was quick and friendly. Gus's is a must-try. I'd definitely make a trip back here.

I first heard about this place from a popular food blogger in YouTube. So ai decided to stop by this place. It’s in the downtown area, and has a distinct quaint charm. It was weekday, and we had to wait for about 20 minutes to get a table. I ordered a plate of three ( Theo thigh and a leg), whereas my boyfriend ordered a plate of three wings. This comes with white bread, baked beans and slaw. However you can substitute the side. Both of us substituted the slaw by fries and potato salad. The fried chicken is always good! And their chickens are crunchy at outside, whereas pretty juicy inside. The thigh and the leg was much better then the wings. The wings are a bit if greasy, but to balance out they serve slaw with it. I ordered a slice of pecan pie as a dessert, which was fairly decent . Overall I liked the place and recommend it.

Decided to come here based on past reviews. And Boy were they right! At first God's glance the chicken looked plain & bland. But that first bite... quickly led to me finishing my whole meal! The Chicken was flavored and juicy! Thoroughly enjoyed the greens and beans. And the fried green tomatoes were tasty. I can definitely see why this is World Famous.

Lemonade, chicken, honey mustard. All slaps. The beans and coleslaw are pretty basic but still recommend. The Mac n cheese was okay, tastes like it’s from a box at the store. Would still recommend. Temperature of food was on 1000 but still the chicken was perfect and moist. Fast friendly service with a good atmosphere. Very clean establishment. 12/10.

Outside of my own kitchen, this was some of the best fried chicken I've eaten. The chicken was spiced perfectly with just the right amount of sneaky heat that said, "I'm here to spice things up, but I'm not going to knock you out and take over your taste buds"! The sides were also delicious. The macaroni and cheese was creamy and flavorful and the baked beans were southern made. The fried okra and potato salad could have used a little seasoning, but they great as well. Overall the food was worth the wait. I expected the food to be good based on the recommendations, the reviews, and all the to go orders that were coming in! We visited on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30 and waited about 25 minutes for a table. Our server came to our table right away. The staff was very friendly. The chicken was hot and fresh. There were several options to choose from: 2 pieces, 3 pieces, a whole chicken, whole wings, chicken strips, etc. And several sides. This would have been a 5-star rating except that the desserts were a little too. Three of us in my party ordered slices of pie (pecan, sweet potato, and chess) and all of us had the same comment, sugary sweet. Even so, I will definitely be visiting Gus's Fried Chicken again the next time I head to Memphis! Great food, great service, worth the wait!

We visited on our trip to Memphis, before the pandemic. The wait for a table was very long, but we went for a walk and waited outside a while, I wish they took reservations. The chicken was good but a little underwhelming compared to other places I like personally. I prefer a thicker breading and a little more spice, but no doubt it was good and very fresh. I liked the sides a bit more. The price for four pieces and two sides was super reasonable, it was $8 if I remember correctly. The employees working here were very friendly and welcoming.

This is definitely one of the must stop by places when in Memphis, Tennessee. The food was amazing and the chicken was seasoned perfectly! You get a good amount of food for the price. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is very clean. I came all the way from SC and this restaurant ranked top on my to do lists while in Memphis! Give them a try! You will not be disappointed :)

My sister in law was visiting from out of town and was raving about it so I took her back. Best chicken wings in Memphis!!!. My greens were tender and flavorful and my fried okra was both crunchy and soft at the same time. Food was hot and flavorful and from the front hostess to our server, both were so friendly. Got seated quickly and served quickly. Plenty of food for the price.

The chicken is hot, crispy, seasoned-well, and HOT. The sides…eh. Just go for the chicken. Friendly and professional staff. This is a very popular place so plan to wait or get there when you’re not starving. Wouldn’t suggest big parties attend because of the size but great for 2-4 people. Sidenote: they use a cool app to notify you when your table is close to being ready. We were able to walk around the neighborhood until our table was ready.

So… this 🐔 chicken was delicious! Line out the door at 3pm on a Friday, line moved quick! Did the 3 piece white and was not disappointed. Throw in some fried pickle spears and a little sweet tea and you’re in heaven. I’ll be back !!!

We had the 2pcs breast with Mac & cheese and seasoned fries. The food was amazing, flavor, quality, presentation, and portions were on point. (Chicken has juicy, as you can see in the picture). Service was friendly and attentive. It's definitely a must visit. Will come again.

I didn't like they don't have their own parking. Food was ok. Wish they had a door to close off kitchen, some things I saw them do, turned me off from wanting to eat their again. Kitchen is not clean at all. The staff is extremely nice. Chicken had decent flavor. Mac & cheese taste like Kraft boxed w/paprika sprinkled on top. They charge .50 to sub a side, plates come w/ bake beans & cold slaw standard. Overall it was a decent try while in the area. Our bill w/2 drinks was $34. We also tried the fried green tomatoes, they were thin & ok.

On my last stay in Memphis, my hotel shuttle driver suggested that I eat at Gus'. Well I returned to Memphis. I had a nice walk on this crisp breezy winter day to Gus'. It was easy to find with Google maps. Due to covid 19, they are limited to 25% seating capacity. You must wear a mask to enter, place an order to go or to be seated. I ordered 3 pieces dark meat chicken with macaroni and cheese and fried rice. Initially I planned to take it to go, but a table became available so I decided to dine in. First I took a bite of the fried rice, the chicken second, the macaroni and cheese third and I fell to mention the pecan pie. Every item that I tasted was AMAZING! Also they have a jukebox and a selection of beers. I am glad that I visited Gus'. You will love it.

Chicken was impeccable as the star🌟 of a show should always be and seasoned to perfection! The chicken was hot and juicy. It was definitely worth the wait and trip. The baked beans did not disappoint either. 😋 As for the mac & cheese, it was lackluster. If you like cafeteria style mac & cheese with a somewhat thick cheese sauce, you won't be disappointed. The dessert, on the other hand, was delicious. Be sure sure to get a slice of sweet potato pie! You can have it served at room temperature or warmed up. I opted for warmed up! I do wish the crust was a little thicker, though. The wings have to be favorite thing on the menu as just about everyone ordered them! Service was good and food came in a timely fashion! You can see the cooks constantly dropping chicken (in the grease) for orders every minute. If staying downtown, you can easily get there via trolley or bus and walk 1 block.

The lady who worked the counter upon first entering was most welcoming! Once seated Travisa was so nice! My daughter tried me chicken fingers and okra. I got the three piece wing plate with greens on the side! The slaw was so good, I also ate my daughter’s off her plate! The greens were exceptional and the beans were very tasty. Although, the chicken states it’s hot and spicy, I added lots of Louisiana Hot sauce to it. Overall friendly atmosphere. The food is worth going!

Just can't beat it! The chicken is perfectly crispy and spicy. Their ranch, honey mustard and fried foods are all good. The sides are pretty standard but you're there for the chicken anyways. I like that they've opened up paid parking in the lot next door. Sometimes crowded, but they get people in and out quickly. Prices are very fair. Good service, friendly people, love the vibes. Highly recommend.

Wonderful! I stop in every time I visit Memphis! Get here right as they open or a little before to avoid a wait! My husband and I both ordered the 2 breast, 1 wing meal that comes with two sides. You’re able to substitute at no extra charge. Our waitress was incredibly today..good communication, fast service, and checked in on us! Food was delicious & served hot! Highly recommend!

Food tasted so good! Easily walkable from downtown and super quick to get your food (I did a walk up to-go)! Staff members are nice and informative! Restaurant is small and quaint which at times can be super busy and wait time can be long from what I saw. Portion sizes are good and affordable prices for the set meal.

As soon as I saw the sign, I new we had to try Gus’s. We stopped in after we got back from the Zoo. It was literally 1/2 block from our Airbnb. The atmosphere was really cool, service excellent and the chicken was awesome. Our server Travisha was super friendly and helpful with the menu. My wife loved the fried pickle spears and I loved the pecan pie!

I LOVE this place. Best fried chicken I have ever had, and a staple of Memphis. It’s a sweet dive and this location gives all the original charm despite more modern locations in many spots. It’s a piece of Memphis magic downtown.

I was thinking their claim of world's best fried chicken might be an exaggeration but no!. Oh boy, this is the best fried chicken I've had in my life. Perfectly crisp but not burned, it's not served too hot you can eat it right away. Cole slaw, mac and cheese, fried okra, all of them tasted light. I bet they change their frying oil frequently. I'm so happy that I came here. I just wish you had a branch in Cincinnati:(

Hands down...BEST FRIED CHICKEN EVER. No comparison...consistently good every time I have ever been. The mac and cheese is great and the fried pickles are a must to get things started. Wash it all down with some fresh sweet tea...It's been to long, time to go back!!

Horrible customer service. My daughter wanted to grab a 4 tenders meal on a long road trip to Virginia . Didn’t receive food after 50 min and then left trying to make it to Nashville for the night . Told them I was on a long road trip . Just unacceptable. Felt I was just not serviced at all and forgotten. She liked the food while she lived in Memphis but no food is that good to waste your time like that

Chicken was just okay for me. The other people it was bought for loved it! Also they loved the fried green tomatoes. They forgot to put the mac n cheese in the bag. So we had to go back and pick that up another day. Had no problems getting it since they realized after we left that it was not in the bag. It was out of the way but the mac n cheese was good. Just check you order before you leave. The staff seem really nice.

Delicious!! Casual place, not incredibly big but memorable. The chicken took a little while because it is fresh. Chicken is one of my favorite dishes so I consider myself picky. This is truly some of the best tasting chicken I've ever had. Super crispy on the outside and juicy all throughout the inside. It's my first time visiting Memphis and staff went out of their way to help recommend me some local barbecue joints. I'll definitely be back and I highly recommend if fried chicken is your thing.

  • 5/5 Rahul M. 3 years ago on Google
Excellent fried chicken, freshly made, crispy and juicy. The sides are very good too....Mac n cheese, cole slaw and beans. I was expecting it to be spicier than it was as they advertise it as spicy fried chicken. The place is neat and clean, with quick service, though it could have been a bit friendly. They are open for dining with socially distant tables and all employees are wearing masks.

Excellent costomer service, our order was messed up and they did an excellent job at fixing it. The chicken had a hint of spice to it and I do not like spice but the Colesaw helped out with that a lot. Macaroni was also great minis that red seasoning on top. I belive the greens was canned greens which im not a fan of at all.

I was slightly disappointed by the fried chicken. The spices were really good. This isn’t Nashville hot chicken. The spice blend add flavor but isn’t hot. But, I have had more flavorful and moist fried chicken elsewhere. If you are visiting town, give it a go. It’s a famous restaurant and worth a shot. The atmosphere is great. The service is speedy.

I'm from Georgia. This was our second time at this chicken place. Different location. Why? Because the chicken was so good, my friend wanted to take some home to her son. When you love chicken you do whatever possible to get the good stuff. We also was leaving Memphis driving back to Georgia. Road trip!!! You cannot do a road trip without some fried chicken. I thought since it was a different location the taste and quality would be different. I was wrong. It was just the same. Made to order, hot, fresh and super juicy. It really is some good chicken.

Gavin was a doll but he doesn't listen well at all. We ordered a 2 piece he bought a 3 piece, never allow yourself to ignore a customer request. Never order the sweet tea if you like your tea sweet. The fried green tomatoes were delicious but that honey mustard sauce was so watery. Parking is crazy at this location and so is traffic so please be mindful if coming here to dine. Over all try this place just make sure you double check your order if you on a buffet.
