It's a beautiful body water that provides an emergency water supply in times of drought. A completely man made water supply. Not created by damming a tributary water supply. Worth a visit.

On our way back from Santa Cruz ,going east on hwy 152 just after the summit we pulled over to check out the san Luis reservoir. A windy spot with a great view. No immensities but easy parking. Excellent place to break up a drive. Take the time to soak in the view and calm the nerves.

Basalt campground WAS excellent. It is now closed due to work on the dam. Official word is that Basalt will be closed for up to 10 years. The afterbay camping and day use areas appear to still be open.

A very quite and rocky place with clean water. Other than rabbits not much wildlife around and a few birds flying around and in water. A very stony/rocky walk to the lake , need good walking boots.

Such an educational experience. This stop has the latest technology to give you a true understanding of how this reservoir works. Stop when in the are and take the time to watch and feel the 3D video along with films of the beginning to update water distribution. This indeed a must with children to learn how fortunate we are to have abundance of water.

If you haven’t stopped here yet, you really need to. It’s very entertaining for adults and children. The view is beautiful of the dam and reservoir. They have very clean restrooms and lots of parking. There is a historic display of the building of the dam, and how the Reservoir system works. Worth a stop.

I was driving back from a job in San Francisco, and from the 101 Fwy, to the 152 Highway, to the 5 Fwy. I had only been on it at night. There is an area that is so beautiful, that I just had to stop and take a few pics.

Beautiful views. Great rest area. But windy and steep places you could fall down. But it's safe.

Mesmerizing view, they explained and showed beautifully about this Reservior and its water level.. they have a nice and clean restroom and picnic table outside. Overall good stop to take pictures and for restroom breaks.

The reservoir is a nice place to go to get out of the Bay Area and simply be out by a calm body of water. The campsites aren't particularly marked so first come first pick for a spot. Campers are friendly and rangers come through during the day and night for safety. Picnic tables and restrooms are available. Great place for a night or two away from the beaten path.

Nice place with the view and a few paved and unpaved larking spots. Frequest wind gusts did not make it easy to stay and have something to eat.

Water, seems to be something of a rare occurrence in the west these days... This particular body of water was so low, it was green with algae blooms.
