Guangdong export wallpaper, silk texture, roughly the content is about the imperial envoy going south to patrol the river. This set of wallpapers was purchased by a Belgian homeowner in 1771. It has a clear chronology. It has just been renovated and is now preserved in its original location and in its original condition. It is open to visitors free of charge. There is probably only one set of wallpaper works from the same period left in China...

18th century. Visit the courtyard and walk to the riverside at the end. Inside tip!

Four stars just to see the gorgeous 18th century Chinese silk wallpaper room! Utterly exquisite. The vestibule is also lovely. The dining room and an adjacent room are far less interesting and all placards are in Dutch with no translations. But there is an overall English translation card provided in the vestibule. By donation only so well worth stopping by for 10 minutes.

City palace that was adapted to the needs of its residents over the centuries. Including the Maurice Maeterlinck collection (Nobel Prize for Literature, French-speaking Flemish and Ghent resident). Also includes a unique Chinese drawing room, silk murals. Free entrance. Free contributions are appreciated. Visit this together with the even larger Hotel d'Hane Steenhuyse (city palace) across the street.

Very nice 18th century city mansion, pay what you want. This was donated to the city by the family of a cotton baron. You can see the ground floor, and everything is in Dutch (no English), but worth the visit. The salon with the painted silk wall covering from china is indeed beautiful, as others said. Pleasant garden behind the house for a rest on a busy shopping street!
