The hostel, activities and staff were nice! At first glance it was going to be a good and fun experience. Sadly it didn’t end that way. Apparently (not told to us) there was a bed bug problem in the room we slept in, and an exterminator was in that day to fix it. We heard that from other travelers. When we tried to go to sleep it turned out that the bedbugs were not gone, as we saw them walking on the curtains around our bed. It came across like the staff wanted to keep it on the low, as they helped individuals with a different bed in another room, but didn’t wake up the people STILL IN THE BED BUG ROOM. We woke up another traveler only to find out the bed bug was literally walking on his pillow next to his face. We all slept in a different room after this. We checked out right away the morning after and thankfully got a refund on all the nights we had payed in advance. Still very bad way to handle this situation. You shouldn’t let people sleep in a room after others find bed bugs there. Because of this I couldn’t trust the staff anymore to tell me what’s going on and I didn’t stay there one more night.

Horrific dealing with bed bug situation. Lovely hostel however there was a bed bug outbreak during our stay. The hostel staff firstly tired to hide this from all current customers and new customers and were completely unhelpful in the handling of the situation. We came back to the hostel and the room was being fumigated. The staff tried to play this off as routine fumigation, we later discovered 3 people in our dorm had been bitten that night and showed us pictures. None of the staff were prepared in what to do meaning we had to bag up and will have to deal with the killing any bugs that got into our stuff ourselves. If we hadn’t been told by guests in our room about the situation the hostel would of let us sleep in a fumigated room without us knowing a thing. Completely unprofessional way of dealing with the situation which was a shame from a lovely hostel and lovely group of staff.

Beautifully decorated hostel with very friendly staff and comfortable beds! Also the cafe/bar is excellent - really can’t ask much more from a hostel 👌

I cannot say enough good things about this hostal. I arrived with the intention of staying a few nights and now it’s four weeks later. The hostal is very pretty, so clean and the beds are heavenly comfortable! But the best thing about it all is the atmosphere. The staff and the volunteers are so nice, it honestly feels like a big shared apartment with friends. There is a nice mix of fun activities and possibilities for party, but still it’s not a party hostel and you can find calm moments and sleep well. Really, come to that hostel, book it now!!!!

We didn't stay here but stopped in for drinks and live jazz music. Had a great evening! The vibe of the place and the people around made me wish I was still traveling as a mochileiro! ☺️

👎👎 The customer service is lousy, I went and the receptionist is super rude and mistreats, in the cafeteria there is horrible service, the rooms are good but they give very bad customer service, highlighting the cafeteria area, some friends from Mérida tried to enter the cafeteria to consume drinks inside the establishment and they took them out because the receptionist thought that they were going to enter the bathroom as if it were public when their intention was to consume in the establishment. I don't recommend that you go, the only good thing are the rooms but to receive ill-treatment it is better not. 👎👎

We had a great two nights at Barrio Vivo Hostel! Amazing and spacious rooms with two lockers per person, clean rooms and bathrooms (with great water pressure and warm water), great atmosphere in the common rooms and lovely people who work there. We hope to be back soon!

Amazing hostel to socialise and meet other traveler's. It’s quite a new hostel which has everything (Pool, breakfast, chill areas, bar). Especially the kitchen is perfectly equipped. Bathrooms and the shared areas were cleaned every day. Also all volunteers were amazing. Super friendly, very helpful and always up to do some stuff with the backpackers (beach, going out etc.) Especially Carlos and Juan were really kind and showed us the party side of Mérida. Muchas Gracias chicos! Overall a really great hostel to have a good time and to connect with lovely people. Would definitely come back one day! All of you stay awesome as you are! Nos vemos pronto 🫶🏼

Really nice and clean hostel with a chill atmosphere and nice personnel working there. Nice hangout area with an open kitchen. Beds are super comfy and you have a lot of space for yourself and the bags. Can really recommend it when coming to Merida ✌️☺️

I can highly recommend this hostel if are going to Merida that’s the place to stay. Because of some circumstances I had to stay quite a lot in Merida. I felt welcomed from the first second and the staff supported me all the time. They are offering activities everyday and creating a social atmosphere which makes it is easy to connect to other guests in the hostel! Also the hostel is super clean and the kitchen is amazing. The manager, the staff as well as the volunteers are amazing and making sure that you have a good time ;)

That was the best sleep I have had in the 2 months that I have been traveling. Thanks for making me feel so welcomed. Hope to see yall aging in the future.

Amazing hostel with beautiful architecture and lovely staff! You can't go wrong with this one. Little update: place is not the best if you're working remotely. The common areas are always playing somewhat loud music and the internet in the bedrooms where it's quiet is very slow.

A great little hostel near to downtown, but in a nice quiet area which felt very safe. Beds are really comfy with lights, 2 lockers, plugs and shelves, AC in bedroom was a godsend. Plenty of bathrooms with good showers and nice communal areas, both kept very clean and tidy. The kitchen is really well equipped and the free breakfast is great. Friendly staff and a good vibe!

This is a 10/10. I stayed here as a volunteer for 2 weeks. It is one of the best places I’ve stayed volunteering. Beds are very comfortable, staff is very friendly, and the kitchen and shared spaces are big. 15min walk from downtown, museums, and bus station for cenotes and other cities. Thanks for this beautiful time 🫶🏽

A really nice hostel near to the city center of Merida. The people working there are super nice and helpfull! The rooms are clean and the beds are spacious (which I haven't had in many other hostels). Would definitly recommend this place also as a solo traveller! And if I am ever back in Merida, I would know where to go :)

bad experience. We couldn't sleep in our beds because there were bed bugs. We discovered that at 4 am, so we had to stay at the reception during the night. We were supposed to get a refund, but we haven't heard from them for a long time.

Would like to summarize my experience:- Pros: - Great service staff - Nice breakfast - Amazing activities to entertain the guests Cons: - A bit far from the Centro - Rooms can do with more natural light - Bathrooms can do with some more cleaning

One of the best hostels I've ever stayed in! The rooms were clean, beds were super comfy, and the bathrooms were inside the main dorm which was much nicer. All the beds had privacy curtains, towels, and 2 good sized lockers (with keys so you didnt need padlocks). They had some activities in the evenings and it was super easy to make friends and chat to people. It's not a party hostel but still a great place to socialise. Staff were really friendly & helpful, and there was a whaysapp group chat you could join to find out what was happening that day/if others were headed in the same direction as you.

Great hostal in Mérida. The rooms are spacious and clean and the staff very warm and open. An area with a kitchen, small pool and various seating areas provides plenty of space to relax or meet other travelers.

We decided to stop by the local café for a quick cup of coffee. Upon entering, we were pleased to find a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The coffee arrived promptly, and we settled into a cozy corner to enjoy our drinks. However, our peaceful moment was quickly disrupted when a member of the staff began sweeping and moving furniture in the area where we were seated. The sudden noise and dust cloud were startling and unwelcome, particularly given the fact that it was 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Overall, while the coffee and atmosphere were satisfactory, the experience was marred by the staff's lack of awareness and respect for their customers. We hope that they can improve their behavior in the future to provide a better customer experience.

We stumbled upon this lovely spot while walking and had a fabulous coffee. Service was great. Beautiful place to sit and enjoy. We didnt use the accommodation but if you were travelling on a budget and needed a hostel this would be the place.

This hostel is planned, built and organized in a superb way. The dorms allow for a lot of privacy bc of the way they are built and you get two lockers with a key. Your bed has a curtain as well as a power outlet. There are plenty of bathrooms and showers in the house. The kitchen is big but could be a little better equipped, but all in all good. The laundry service is very convenient. The only thing that really bothered us was the constant music being played in the common area (mostly reggaeton, but there was a two hour live jazz session one night which was quite loud & not enjoyable). It would be nice to have some quiet time every now and then. But other than that it was a great experience and we would book again.

It's by far the best Hostel I've ever been to. You can really make great friends there, everybody is just soo nice and welcoming like I have never seen before. If you are searching for a Hostel where you will feel part of the Family, you definitely have to go there!

It’s honestly the best hostel I have ever been to. The beds were so great, everything was thought trough from the plugs inside the lockers to the filtered water tab and a WhatsApp group to inform everyone about evening activities and to help people connect. The staff was incredibly helpful for everything and the manager is amazing! Thank you so much for everything.

Average rating of five stars is definitely not representative here on Google. The staff here and especially the volunteers are absolutely clueless and cannot help you out with any activities you want to do. Also they rarely actively enganged with other travelers. The location is also super off you have to walk 1.2 kilometers to get to a good restaurant. The people I met were really nice and facilities are great.

This place is absolutely incredible. The place is situated next to a local square with a few food stalls, it s in a very calm, clean but local area that lets you dive into true mexican culture. All dorms have really comfy blankets and beds, the hostel is so pretty and the staff nothing short of amazing! Even when they found a bed bug they immediately called special cleaners to desinfect and clean both dorms and every single bed and acted exactly how you should professionally in such a situation. Barrio Vivo has a very special place in my heart and everyone who comes here will know exactly what I mean - you wont regret staying here.

Perfect location in Merida for visiting the centre (and not far from the airport)!! It’s in a lovely small square a short walk from the cathedral and food places etc. The staff are super helpful and make sure you have everything you need. The rooms are spacious and have 2 lockers each. Bedding and towel provided and help yourself style breakfast included. Have enjoyed our stay here and would recommend to anyone :)

Definitely, it's one of the loveliest hostal I've ever stayed. The staff is amazing and extremely friendly! Comfy beds, hot water, and ac, what else do you need? If you're looking for a warm place that actually makes you feel like home, this has to be the best option
