Best value, great location and awesome company with one of the most friendly and accommodating hosts. Honestly I placed a lot of pressure on the Guaya Hostel, I had way too much baggage, I asked for help with last minute changes, going from the hostel dorm sleeping area to the private suite was a huge upgrade and totally did not feel like a hostel for me but like a home. The things that are really important for me, positive energy, friendly human service, family owned business, ethical practices. The hostel was super positive, making conversations with new amazing people very natural. Santiago was very good at listening to my needs and helped with information that saved me hours of research. This is a family owned business, here you are treated as a guest not a client. The rules are not broken here, and the philosophy of the hostel integrates with the social evolution that nomads, student travelers, philosophers and cutting edge individuals seek in connection with the world around them. I look forward to returning here with more friends and share this great location with easy access to transportation, food, events and culture.

Dangerous Beds, Unfriendly Staff. This Hostal has one room, which is equipped with 4 beds, which are triple sleepers. I was on the top bed, which means that you're around 3 meters above the ground. It is hard to get up there and the railing does not protect you 100% from falling out (i was able to slide through underneath, so I needed to put my bag next to me, to protect myself). So have fun breaking your neck at night. The windows where a bit open when I arrived and mosquitos where coming into the room, so I tried to close it, since it was next to my bed. I accidentally broke one small window while doing it and cut my hand (the windows are very fragile). The staff didn't care about my well-being, but asked for compensation and threatened me with the police (no fun in Mexico). Additionally to that I had no blanket and the room was extremely loud, because it is next to a street and as I said, the windows won't shut completely. We told the staff, that we need to depart at 8:30 to catch a bus. Breakfast time is at 8:00. The staff didn't make any effort to start preparing breakfast on time, so we just ate some fruits in a rush and headed off with basically no breakfast on a 9h bus-ride. Additionally the staff (the guy) gave me and my friend a very unfriendly attitude. I didn't feel welcome there and wouldn't recommend to stay.

You have to pay 100 pesos for a day pass if you want to stay in the hostel after the checkout this is a cheekiness in my opinion.

I changed my plans and ended up in Merida and quickly had a Google for a hostel close by to the bus station and stumbled across Guaya hostel through Google maps. Upon my arrival I was greeted with open arms to this tiny oasis located in close proximity to everything you could possibly need in the heart of Merida. Santiago and his wife Sara were super accomodating from the moment we met. Sara even said “this is your home whilst you are here” which from that moment, it genuinely felt like it was! Santiago was super helpful with any questions I had about the local area, which he had a great knowledge of as I saw him answering questions and giving ideas to any of the travellers like myself who had questions for him. The beds are comfy, with aircon and fans in the bedrooms, there is nice and cool plunge pool (great for the 40 degree days in Merida), a separated shower and toilet block for privacy, and you are greeted every morning with a family breakfast which is more than enough to start your day the right way! There is also a lovable guard dog called Coco, who is always happy to have a belly scratch and a cuddle on the hammocks! I will be back to Merida as this family run hostel along with the town and the people made me feel the most welcome I felt on my trip to Mexico! Thank you Santiago and Sara! I hope to see you again one day! Kind regards Kieran

I do not generally write reviews but this hostel deserves it so I'll write one. It's a nice, family hostel where you will feel at home as soon as you enter and few hours later it will feel like you've been there for weeks already as Santiago and his wife (sorry I have forgotten your name...) are welcoming and genuinely helpful. You can feel that they are talking to you and giving you advice, not just because it's a business and that's what you are supposed to do with your guests, but because that's how they are. And this detail does everything for me already! As well, it is spotless clean, the breakfast is very good, the location perfect (the town center is really not that far, a lot of nice local places are nearby and the bus station is only few minutes away), the bed comfy and cozy, the dog super cute and there is hot water. So, if you're reading this review and you're still unsure about where to stay, just stay there. Thank you, I'll definitely come back when I'm back in Merida!

First I didn’t stay here. But I don’t have a good experience with them. My friends stayed there. So I asked them to keep my luggage for couple of hours like around 3 hours. I handover luggage around 9PM. And they charged me 40 pesos. I didn’t mind to pay for it. I told them I have night bus. Unfortunately I didn’t get information what time they will lock the main door.. I went back there to get my luggage at 11:30. The main door was locked. And I couldn’t enter in. So I couldn’t get my luggage back. I almost missed my bus. Because my bus was at 11:50. I tried to called them and they didn’t pick up. Another group of guys who were staying in the hostel came back to hostel that moment. And they open the door for me. If you wanna charge with something plz take responsibility.😕

Really beautiful hostel run by lovely kind people. The room was really nice there were enough lockers for each bed, and the beds had little curtains giving you a bit of privacy in the shared room. Outside, there is a shady garden and a pool, so it was great for keeping cool. Breakfast is included, we had a bowl of fruit, waffles, and tea, coffee, jamaica water. Santiago one of the owners was soo helpful he sat down with us and got out a map of Merida/Yucatan and gave us some really great recommendations about where to go. This was really handy and kind of him to sit with us and share what he knows (which was a lot!) Such a nice place to stay I would really recommend it. And so close to rhe bus station which is a plus! Thanks so much Sara and Santiago for having us 💕

One if the best hostels in Mérida. Perfect location, a few steps from ADO Bus Station and a 10 minutes walk from the city center. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, the freshly made waffles were exactly my taste.

Run by a lovely mexican husband and wife with a young son running around. They all speak very good english. The hostel is small with I think 1 x12 bed dorms and a private room. They sit on the front entrance desk and have cctv, which feels very secure. One street behind the ADO bus station, so go out therear exit. About a 10 minute walk to the start of the central area. Hostels these days are now much improved, with Hostik Merida setting a very high standard being an excellent design and new(as I stayed afterwards). The price difference at the time was only about 50 pesos difference. Yet, in real terms, the difference was 60%. I really hope Guaya do improve to improve their earning potential as the owners are great.

Warning! The Hostel owner tried to steal my belly bag! I layed in the hammock in the hostel and under me was my pouch and in the pouch was my belly pouch. The hostel owner thought I was sleeping and took my belly bag, put it under her top and ran away. Luckily I saw it and confronted her. The day before, all the money was stolen from another backpacker. This suggests that she was too, but it cannot be confirmed. I changed the hostel because I felt unsafe.

Enjoyed my stay here. 2 nights. The owners were awesome and gave me great recommendations To Uxmal and cenotes that I loved. They Cooked breakfast and hung out with everyone. Met many good people here. Other bad reviews... cry babies should stick to resorts 👶 😉

What I really loved about this hostel is you are having breakfast with the owner and his family, like you are a part of it. It is really a nice chill and small hostel, with a garden, a small roof and pool an very nice equipped kitchen there. On the breakfast they serve waffle fruits or fried egg on a bread and with fruits. The owner of the hostel has a lot information about the city and archeolocigal areas, he really gave nice tips to visit. I really enjoyed the time that I spent there.

The room was not clean. There was a strong fish smell. Same for the bathrooms and shower. We didn’t receive clean sheets. The owner is really not kind. The day after we slept, we couldn’t even wait 30 minutes there before taking our bus. The landlord told us we had to pay a day pass for the 30 minutes. I strongly do not recommend.

Most rude and unwelcoming hostel owner I have ever come across. Absolutely not worth the price to stay here

I've been traveling for more than 2 years and this is the worst experience I've had. Worse than a €5 hotel in Shartuz, Tajikistan. Read on! After asking to stay one more day and being told that was fine, my stuff was moved from one bed to the other, and in the process my charger and adapter was lost. I was told I'd get them back tomorrow. Now, I just got back, and someone is sleeping in my bed – so I have to sleep on the couch. Let's see in the morning what he offers to make up for it. 1/5, relentless amateurism. I've slept at the houses of dunk Iraqi alcoholics and it was better than this.

Que Chido! Me gusta mucho! Great value! Super chill. Everything you need including a nice little kitchen and workout space. Very cozy and friendly atmosphere. Amazing beds! Close to everything including the ADO bus station which is literally right next door. Super cool spot. Highly recommend!

Called in the morning to confirm a bed and when arrived in the evening they told me they didn't have any beds available.

I stayed at this hostel in 2019 and it was wonderful. Super friendly staff and delicious breakfast with waffle. Also it is located right near the bus station which is so convenient. Would recommend! 5 ⭐️

The hostel looked nice and everything was alright. The breakfast was also good. Unfortunately we woke up the first morning with a bunch of bedbug bites. When we asked for refund for the two nights that we booked, the owner told us that we brought the bugs with us from another hostel. But then we went through the reviews a bit more and we saw that people also complained about bedbugs a few months earlier. They reacted to those reviews stating that they handled the situation but clearly not. We don’t recommend you to stay here.
