Be prepared to be overwhelmed. Miles of pathways for fruits, vegetables, fish, chicken, beef, and pork. The market seems to start blocks before you even get to the building. You can find almost anything there. Lots of household items, clothing, street food, and candy. I spend 2 hours walking 6 miles around and in the Mercado. It's a must visit for tourists. Locals will tell you don't go it's only food. If you miss this Mercado you will miss a great adventure of your senses. 😘😜🤪👍

This place is overflowing with people and things! It is insane! You can find anything you can think of here. The place is very dirty, not very organized but I like the chaos of it. There is food everywhere! We stopped at two places and they were delicious! Every stand is different so eat at your own risk, we fortunately did not get sick haha. I would go back!

They will have anything you think about there. However, there are some places I would question the sanitary conditions.

A real experience of Mexico. Quick price comparison between the market in roma and this.... Avocados 70 pesos vs 30 per kg; Oaxaca cheese 150 pesos vs 60 per kg; poblano peppers 80 pesos vs 18 per kg. Basically save 500 pesos on a single shopping time

Great place for all your grocery needs. Near by you will also find markets for kitchenware, clothing, toys, pets, and everything else. Some excellent food stands throughout as well.

I visited during Día de Muertos. Took a taxi there, no good too many cars. I walked 3 blocks to get there. Nice place, lots of people, many things to see. I arrived at 11 am. Left at 3 pm I took a bus that left me a few blocks from the Zócalo.

This market is so so so crowded. It is crazy navigating through this place. Because of that, we only try food at one stall. We eat pancita, basically a tripe soup. Not sure how it is different from menudo. But this soup is a little spicy, a little bland, and you eat with tortilla, salsa, and cream. I wouldn't recommend coming here just because of how crowded this place is and you can find the food here anywhere else.

One of a kind market that highlights the community and commerce of Mexico City. We booked a market tour through Eat Mexico and it was the highlight of our time in Mexico. La Merced is massive and filled with tight walkways—without a local guide we would have been totally overwhelmed and lost. Thankfully our guide took us to a dozen food stands and vendors where we could sample everything from tacos to tamales to moles and more.

Such a vibrant area. Full of everything. What ever you think of , you can definitely find it there. Street food was looking delicious but it was not looking hygienic. Other then that highly recommended to visit to get the feeling of the heart of mexico city.

First of all just contact Eat Mexico in order to do this safely and with some guidance. Adrian (our guide) is a cook/chef/culinary graduate (as we’re our other guides with other companies). Which made talking food a no brainer. He explained much more than I was bargain for about how the local “system” works all the way up! We moved effortlessly through the market (once we made it past the tents). The true market is very well lit and friendly. I don’t think there were many glances our way since he spends so much time there. Don’t expect your group to be more than 4 since there is not room. The only leer we got the 5 days in CDMX was entering the market and in Polanco the locals were amazed that we went there at all. Great food, great local guide information and really good freakin food!

Complete sensory saturation. Everything for sale. Even haircut for 60 mxn. Bought a nice polo shirt. Some vendors allow you to try if you want to taste their food. The place to buy everything.

As long as you are happy to find what you want in this huge bustling maze, it’s a good place to shop. Fruit, veg and meat available at prices below those in supermarkets.

A few disclaimers - be ready for all the over stimulation. Very packed market and can be easy to get lost. Lots of moving parts but a wonderful place for delicious food. Had the best tamales inside!

Delicious Street food, but can be daunting to navigate. Mc teo is a good entry on Google maps to navigate to the correct section for food, otherwise you can easily get lost.

5 stars for being very authentic and not catered to tourists . The prices here are incredible but it’s definitely tough to maneuver across the huge market. With that being said , vendors were very gracious in pointing out directions to us when showing pictures of a particular set of pottery we were looking for .

Soo crowdy! I am not complaining about the crowd, but if you don't like it, don't go there! It is an nice place tongo, but the quality of the products are not that great. The market has 7 stores with the same products.. Overall if you like markets, it is nice to experience it.

Interesting market. Make sure you know where the exits are though - the scorched roof is from the last fire in 2019. Looks like some earthquake maybe wasn’t really repaired 😆

Very good products to low prices

Coming here is like stepping into another world! The sights, the smells, the people-Amazing. Take the subway directly into the market. If you must bring them, keep your belongings close and tight but otherwise come and enjoy and let this place take you away.
