Came here on Sunday during brunch time. Our waiter was amazing- great service and sense of humor. Sushi was delicious. Drinks were unique and tasty. The fried rice was pretty good. Disappointed in the steak - zero flavor and for the price you pay, you would expect more. Definitely expect to drop a pretty penny here but it is a nice place to try if you are in the area.

Honestly, one of the best Japanese meals I have had in a while. I thought it was going to be a little too fancy and pretentious, but it lived up to the hype. Everything tasted great. Got the crispy rice tuna to start and it set to tone for an amazing meal, can't wait to go back. A little expensive but worth it. Also our server Eduardo/Eddie was phenomenal and attentive, real pro, knew his stuff and made the whole dining experience that much better. Can't wait to go back. 7/30/2021. Tables are spaced out. It was busy but felt safe. Highly recommend!

The food here is fantasic, all fresh ingredients, from the fish to the waygu beef. They use koshihikari rice, which gives the sushi a slightly different, but above average taste and consistency. Even the coffee was excellent. The only negatives aside from the price (which is to be expected in Bar Harbour Shops) is that it is loud - no baffling for the sound indoors where we were seated, which resulted in not being able to hear the person next to me, nor could the waiter hear us at times, which resulted in missing a part of our order. I didn't take points off for that because it wasn't his fault and when we asked for it again, it came out quickly. Otherwise, the service was excellent. The restaurant is also very yellow on the inside (reflected in the attached pics), if you don't like yellow and you want to be able to carry on a conversation, try to get a seat outside.

Great restaurant in an excellent place. The food is really delicious!! You won't regret it. It is not cheap but it worth it. Our server was not the best for this type of restaurant. 200% recommended it.

First time here - totally 5 stars experience! Location: located on the 3rd floor. Easy access by elevator. Recommended to valet park for less walk. Weekday wasnt bad at all. Outdoor wait time 15 mins. Indoor was immediately. Atmosphere: WONDERING. Beautiful bright yellow lights. Super modern and HIGH-END vibes. Friendly and knowledgeable staffs. Everything was spotless clean! After our dinner, the manager came to make sure everything was good. Below are our order. No matter what make sure do NOT miss the SALAD. Any option are recommended. All the salad was VERY UNIQUE and different vibes. __________ Sushi menu / nigri are amazing. Very fresh and high quality. Especially the OMAKASE or the $60 sushi samples (11 pieces + 1 rolls). Wagyu Beef is a must try! For the price - it was worth it! Dinner for 3 end up less than $200 before tips. Will definitely come back!

After spending some time in Bal Harbour in late June, I’ve found Makoto to be a staple when it comes to dining at Bal Harbour Shops. During my first visit, I was able to enjoy dinner service at about 9pm. Pictured is the usagi (similar to a pisco sour), tuna crispy rice (the house specialty), rock shrimp, spicy edamame, Japanese eggplant, shishito peppers, lychee and Mochi. Everything was absolutely delicious. Favorites were reordered (rock shrimp, tuna crispy rice and shishito peppers). That’s not to say the other plates weren’t good but these three were just that good. Drinks were all consistent as well. I switched over to a spicy pineapple margarita while my guests kept with the spicy margarita option that stayed super tasty and always refilled after meeting our server, Anthony. He was super friendly and attentive throughout our entire stay. So much that we can back a few days later for lunch and was hosted my Maddie. She is such a delight and was also super friendly and welcoming while eating at the bar. The last two photos are the sushi bar options (chu-toro, king Salmon, tamago and a spicy yellowtail roll). The sushi was incredibly fresh and worth the visit. Hopeful to visit in the future very soon! Make sure you make reservations if you can because there can be quite a wait if not. Overall, Makoto is definitely my new favorite.

Makoto, nestled in the upscale Bal Harbour Shops, offers an excellent dining experience that merges a stylish ambiance with top-tier Japanese cuisine. While some might hesitate at the idea of a restaurant in a mall setting, Makoto stands out as a delightful sanctuary, perfect for a gourmet break in a day of shopping. The meal commenced with an outstanding serving of Brussels sprouts, paired with a glass of Sancerre that was as crisp as the conversation. The tuna crispy rice followed, setting a high bar and easily ranking as one of the best I’ve savored. The cucumber seaweed salad was a refreshing interlude, with a vinegary zest that cleansed the palate beautifully. The vegetable fried rice was competent, though it didn’t quite dazzle amidst the other standout dishes. A slight letdown was the cucumber roll, which, while fresh, was too sparing on the cucumber for my liking. Service throughout was efficient and unobtrusive, encapsulating the high-quality service that enhances the dining experience. Rating Makoto, I’d say it’s a solid 4 out of 5 on food for its mostly impressive offerings, a 4 out of 5 on ambiance for its chic setting despite the mall location, and a full 5 out of 5 on service for the attentive and professional staff. In summary, Makoto is a must-visit for those seeking exquisite Japanese cuisine in Miami, with a few minor tweaks away from perfection.

Very busy place in the very busy mall. The place had a reputation of very good quality food and I heard of them a long time ago. At last, I had my personal experience. The wait was 1.5 hrs, so reservations highly recommended. It's a good thing that this place is in the mall, so it was easy to kill a waiting time. The food was really good, I strongly recommend getting their beef carpaccio, crispy rice, sea bass, noodles with ground beef. Also, you should really try their desert Toban Yaki, one of the best I ever tried.

One of the best sushi restaurants in South Florida !!! This restaurant is such a gem located in the beautiful Bal Harbour shops . The location couldn’t be better as well as the food and service . Our waiter was absolutely wonderful and gave us many recommendations. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very luxurious with a retro vibe . The Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice is a must !!! But my favorite meal was the truffle salmon which was a perfect portion and had a large helping of truffle especially for the more affordable price . The caterpillar sushi roll is also a choice you can’t go wrong with . Finishing off with the Fruit Toban Yaki was a wonderful surprise with just enough sweetness but also light and flavorful ! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a new take Japanese food in the area !

Great cocktails and delicious food. We had Salmon avocado roll, chicken dumplings, wagyu short rib and shrimp tempura. They were all delicious. Tokyo love cocktails was one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. It was special for fathers day but you could ask for it. As dessert we had fruit toban yaki and it’s a must try!! Absolutely mind blowing dessert!! 100% recommended.

Located in the luxurious Bal Harbor Mall, is this newly renovated Japanese restaurant. The new decor is super sleek and modern. The atmosphere is very cool. The service was excellent and the food very good. MUST TRY: Bento Box!!! (with Ponzu Salmon), Hamachi Ponzu, Wagyu Beef Hot Stone and as dessert the Lava Cake with Ice cream! One thing to say is that The hand-rolls weren’t as extraordinary as the rest of the dishes we tried.

What a special space. I love the new Makoto on the 3 floor. So much more space and a feeling of luxury. Food is always delicious and service is always great. Highly recommend the Brussels and rock shrimp. Can’t go wrong with any of their sushi rolls. My friend got chicken and rice and enjoyed her plate. Carlos and Makoto thank you so much for the experience.

Had gone to the other location three times before, with two being good experiences and one being a bad one. This was the first time at the new place and I have to say I'm impressed. They have ample seating, with pleasant options inside and outside. The decoration is tasteful, the staff is friendly, and the food didn't take long to come out. For starters, we order the hamachi ponzu, the truffle salmon, and the skewered octopus. All were excellent - but highlight to the octopus. Then we had a few rolls, namely the negi toro, the salmon, the rainbow, and the caterpillar. They all tasted amazing. Price is a bit on the more expensive side, although I believe the experience and the quality of the food make up for it.

The edamame were lovely even though I was hesitant due to the color, the sea salt is always a great touch. The rest of the food was really good, the rainbow roll is considerably bigger in size than the spicy tuna. I’d come back. The teas were good as well.

BRYANT!!!!!! Best server ever. We walked up after walking the mall and got seated at the sushi bar. What an experience. Everything Bryant recommended or steered us towards turned out to be delicious. We had cocktails, 3 rolls, avocado!, wagu hot stone, mango dessert. I will definitely be back and making tons of recommendations to get a reservation. The night we went there was also an amazing DJ because it was Friday and the vibe was on point!

Great location especially since it’s a busy restaurant. Can leave your name and then walk around til the table is ready. Food was good but a bit on the overly sauced/ overly salty side. I would just order the sushi next time and stay away from the saucy apps.

Located in the terrace of Bal harbour shops, the restaurant has a cool vibe, a quality crowd and a trendy interior. They serve Japanese inspired dishes, which individually taste nice, but not on an unforgettable level. The menu is a bit fragmented, so I would re-visit to enjoy a beer with some appetizers on the cool terrace.

Makoto excels with savory sushi and an enchanting ambiance that transports you through time. The to-die-for sorbet passion fruit dessert adds a perfect sweet finale to an exceptional dining experience.

Makoto is an absolute gem in Miami. The sushi here is truly exceptional, among the best in the city. The restaurant's atmosphere is enchanting, with elegant decor and a relaxing ambiance. The service at Makoto was also commendable. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, ensuring that every need was met throughout the evening. They were more than happy to provide recommendations and answer any questions I had about the menu. Highly recommended for an unforgettable dining experience!

Located on the 3rd floor of the Bal Harbour Shops, Makoto serves some seriously tasty Japanese cuisine. The sushi is fresh and of great quality. The cooked options are full of flavor and prepared to perfection. The service was friendly and attentive.

We enjoyed the selection of Japanese beers and the range of fish available for sushi such as amberjack, golden eye snapper, and wahoo. The sushi was pretty decent. The beef noodle dish we ordered had some delicious flavor but overall was too salty. Our favorite part of the meal was the sushi pizza. The dining room is a little retro and very yellow.

Came on Wednesday night and it was busy. The atmosphere and the service at Makoto are near perfect. We only ordered sushi and crispy rice hamachi and spicy tuna. The amount of rice vinegar use to make the rice is too overpowering taking away the flavor of the fish itself. And the end of our meal, we couldn’t even use soy sauce to pair with our sushi; everything started to taste sour like the vinegar. Everything else was as fresh as it can be. We had the $80 combination platter which I recommend over the $60. Excellent staff and very welcoming to first time diners.

The raw items are not so great. Order the corn! The short ribs were to die for as well. Service needs some help. They drop the food slamming it on the table and removed the plates when we’re not fully done eating without even saying sorry. Definitely will be back to try more hot food plates but won’t expect much of the service this time. The mango and crumble dessert was very different but very delicious.

I think we almost ordered every app they had and all I have to say is wow. Everything is super delicious and vibrant. My favorite dish was the hot stone and one of the yellow tail dishes. I would definitely recommend and I am for sure going back.

Great vibe, heard the food was consistent and everything I ate was tasty. Next day prime reservation time for weekend was a plus too! Nice salad, wine, miso soup. Plenty of vegan options. Knowledge server. Would recommend

Simply awesome. Best japanese restaurant in the world. I use to go at Sao Paulo unit and now in vacation time I've been at Miami Beach unit. The space is absolutely beautiful and cozy. The service is very good. The chef came to our table to make a customized option for us. And finally, the quality of the food is the best one. All options are extrenely tasty and well made. The price goes the same way. Not cheap but worth it.

Class, cool, and extremely safe. I stopped by for a drink even though I had no intention to do so. I was pleasantly surprised. Their food was good and the drinks were delicious. Their Mojito was just too yummy. Its great place just to have a drink at the open bar outside by yourself or food and drinks with family or friends. Also, because it is in Bal Harbour shops, it feels very safe and in many ways, a return to a time where one could go for a drink all alone and feel very safe. A definite Place visit

Miami staple for high end Japanese food. Dank corn and salad…not lying that was my favorite part of the meal. So juicy. Vibrant flavors. Crispy rice, chicken wings, short rib noodles were great. Shout out to our waiter and the rest of the staff bringing our plates over, they didn’t underestimate how much my best friend and I were there to eat!!!

We had such an amazing meal the first time we went that we actually went back again the next day for an encore. The service was great. The food was tasty and well presented. We had asked them to bring out their most popular dishes until we were full and they did not disappoint. Everything photographed was delicious. I highly recommend all the items we got.
