We booked a private "Insider Ramen Tour" with Frank and had a great time. We knew about Frank from his "5 AM Ramen" Youtube channel. When Japan opened its borders for tourists, we directly booked the tour for the end of our trip. We agreed in advance on a district in Tokyo where the tour will take place. We chose Jimbō-chō, because it was in walking distance of our accommodation. The tour started with a sit together at a nearby cafe. We learned about the history of Ramen and had a very pleasent chat. We were offered a selection of Ramen shops and selected two to go to. We selected a Ramen shop with chicken based broth and a Tsukemen Ramen (dipping Ramen) shop. Both were excellent. Having a chat with Frank, learning about the Ramen, walking around Jinbōchō and having amazing Ramen was a great experience. The tour was a great way to end our vacation.

I booked a tour with Frank from 5am Ramen after running across his page on YouTube. It was myself and another young lady from Australia. We immediately hit it off eating and chatting about travel, life, and of course Ramen. I will honestly say that I have traveled to numerous countries for food and this tour was by far my best experience. Frank was amazing and laid back with just the right bit of details and ramen history. I will not hesitate to book another tour with him when I am back in Tokyo. Thank you for an awesome experience, Frank.

Absolutely fantastic! Frank is the perfect blend of amicable and knowledgeable; he creates a wonderfully fun experience to learn about the history, traditions and types of ramen. We booked our tour as a Father’s Day surprise, and it was definitely a fantastic family adventure, even our kids (8 and 10) had a great time. The ramen is phenomenal, and it’s almost impossible to pick a favorite. The best part? We left with the vocabulary to search for other ramen restaurants to match our preferences and confidence to branch out and try new flavor combinations. Hands down, the most entertaining and enjoyable way to learn about (and eat!) delicious ramen in Tokyo!

It was a great tour, there is so much more to ramen than I thought. There are so many different kinds and versions. On this tour, we were taken to 3 different restaurants, each serving 4 different types of ramen. We could pick 2 from each place. They all tasted soo good. I'm happy I joined the tour, I am on step closer to understanding ramen and next time I have a bowl I am more aware of what kind I like.

We booked on to the Ultimate Ramen Tasting tour on our first night in Japan and had the absolute pleasure of Frank as our guide. Knowledgeable, passionate, and witty; it was the perfect introduction to ramen. We learned so much in a short amount of time and left with full bellies, big smiles and the confidence to find and order ramen on the rest of our trip. Highly, highly, recommend for anyone looking for good food and to learn a little something!

This tour was special because our host basically has a PHD in Ramen! We had soo many different types of Ramen that it made me appreciate all the varieties. I didn’t even know that soupless Ramen existed and that it’s become my favourite. I highly recommend you go on this tour as it’s a great way to get some of the best Ramen in Tokyo ! Hurry - Go now!

Rory (the guide) was funny, nice, and knowledgeable about history and food. Food was delicious and we had the opportunity to taste a variety of Ramen styles. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for something to do in Tokyo.

Fun Tour with dedicated Tour guides. Time and money well spent. The Restaurants are handpicked and offer a wide variety of our favourite dish. Better go not alone, bring a friend - if you are a team of 2 you enjoy 12 different ramen in 3-4 hrs (sharing is caring). A definite recommendation!

Our small group enjoyed the private ramen tour. The 6:30pm start time worked well since we were hungry from a day of touring and shopping. Rory shared history of the shibuya area and ramen as we walked between shops. It was easy to see how much time 5amRamen has taken to put together the information presented during the tour. It was also impressive that the company has built relationships with the ramen chefs. One suggestion might be to send out an email ahead of time with some quick FAQs and maybe some shibuya and ramen background info. I'm sure some people like to jump in cold with both feet but a little foreshadowing about ramen might allow guests to have more informed/substantial conversations during the outing. The real question is if I use ramen noodles in a bake (casserole) is it still ramen?

5AMRamen tour was excellent. Frank is a Ramen Guru! Went to 3 great ramen places, were not chains. 6 small bowls of different varieties and takes on ramen. They were all delicious. Frank is super chill and goes through the history of Ramen and the components of this amazing dish while you enjoy the bowls. He also is happy to give you recommendations on other Ramen places in Tokyo. It’s great for novices and Ramen Fanatics like myself! 5 star - definitely worth it.

High fives to Frank and his three stop ramen shop tour. In the time we were on this tour we were treated to three different ramen restaurants, each with their own style of delicious ramen. Frank is knowledgable and quickly creates rapport and is a great host. I recommend booking a tour with Frank early in your Tokyo stay so you can get the lay of the land and some great inspiration for other ramen meals while you're in Tokyo.

Great tour! Gained a better understanding of the history of ramen, the various influences that have shaped the cuisine, and what each ingredient and flavor profile means. The guide will help you explore the neighborhood and share some amazing off-the-beaten path restaurants and flavors to help you better understand your ramen flavor palette.

Would recommend booking a tour here! I did both the Ramen Tasting Tour and Ramen Kitchen Experience with Frank, who knows everything about ramen. You get a fun behind the scenes experience in the ramen kitchen experience tour. Amazing ramen in both tours too.

Incredible experience! Frank was an extremely knowledgeable and friendly guide, and all three ramen shops were an easy walking distance apart in the Shibuya area. We would never have been able to find the quality and variety of ramen just wandering Tokyo ourselves, and being able to split 12 mini bowls of ramen with my partner solved one of the main problems we encountered in the trip - that our stomachs aren't big enough to sample all the food we want to try! Highly recommended.

Went on the 5am Ramen tour on our first night and a brilliant idea so we could learn all about about ramen! All the dishes were fantastic with the first miso soup and black sesame personal favourites along the tour. Frank was a great tour guide, with the tour well thought out, and giving a bit more on the story of ramen along the way. Great for first timers (like us) to ask questions and understand how to actually order the ramen in the first place! Would highly recommend

Given the circumstances, we were not able to visit Japan for our Ramen tour. However, Frank did a fabulous job by bringing the Ramen tour to our homes. First, we started with a Ramen tasting and afterwards we learned a lot about the different Ramen types and how to order in a typical Ramen restaurant. Recommend the tour, whether with friends, colleagues or family! Hope to see you soon in Japan!

Great tour - highly recommend - serving sizes were perfect, a wide range of diverse options to choose from, and Frank delivered interesting narrative on ramen’s history, ingredients, and trends.

Frank is a fantastic guide and a true ramen enthusiast! Don't miss his tours, as he will surely introduce to you some great restaurants which you may otherwise not come across.

The Ultimate Walking tour is a lovely walking tour to 3 ramen shops in Tokyo you'd be HARD pressed to find on your own without a good bit of research. Like a fine wine tasting, he starts you with the lightest, most subtle ramens and builds into the heavier and exotic options! Never, EVER would I have said pesto or curry ramen are palatable. But here I am, 2 weeks later, wishing I could go back and get a few more bowls. My husband too! Was totally shocked that those 2 bowls were so good! My husband and I already knew what kind of ramen we liked but this definitely showed us some new options we never would have approached as full bowls on our own. The mini bowls really help you try new things in a less committed setting. Frank works hard to get everyone talking, give you a little back story of ramen itself, and answer all your off the cuff questions. Try to stump him! I dare you! Anyway, I recommend this tour to those who are new to ramen and those who are veterans. And honestly, if I had someone new I was going to Tokyo with, I'd go on this tour again with them! It was that tasty and that fun! :)

Our guide was knowledgeable, entertaining, and wonderful to talk to about all things Ramen and Japanese culture. I had an excellent time with our group and tasted a wide variety of Ramen, including some weirder ones that turned out to be quite delicious (Pesto Ramen, for example). I absolutely recommend this tour, as you will learn a lot about Ramen, eat a lot of good food, and share an amazing experience with other like-minded travellers.

Frank was AWESOME! We had the best time at the ramen tour. He brought us to 3 different ramen places in Tokyo and we got to sample a wide variety of ramen. We felt so much more confident in Tokyo sampling ramen once we learned that the intricate details and etiquette of eating ramen. We got to try a wide variety of ramen and we are so glad we went!

My daughter and i had a great time with Frank on our Ramen Tour. Frank is very passionate about Ramen and he makes sure that everyone who takes the tour gets to taste the best Ramen in Tokyo by introducing them to small tasting bowls in 3 different Ramen restaurants. He is a fun person and answers all your ramen questions. We absolutely loved the experience and feel like Ramen Pros :) Must do for anyone visiting Tokyo.

Fantastic tour. This is a must do if you're in Tokyo and certainly is you're a Ramen fan. Frank is an incredible your guide; extremely knowledgeable, kind, and passionate about ramen. The food itself was fantastic. They were options I don't believe I would have ever ordered on my own so it was great to have an expert show us. Absolutely loved it and couldn't recommend it enough.

We did Frank’s ‘Insider Ramen Tour’ on our second day in Tokyo. As well as being introduced to the best ramen we’ve ever had, the tour also served as a great introduction to the city itself. Frank is friendly and easy-going, and more than happy to share his incredible ramen knowledge. We were spoilt for choice, but the ramen shops we chose on the tour were amazing. After the tour we felt confident finding further ramen shops in Tokyo and elsewhere. Couldn’t recommend Frank’s tours enough.

Frank is amazing and going on one of his tours is a must-do if you are in Tokyo! He's super knowledgeable, has great recommendations, and the Ultimate Ramen tour was amazing. All bowls were delicious, including what was, for me, the best bowl of ramen I've ever had. Can't recommend enough! ETA: Now that I'm back home from Japan, I worry I undersold this review and how amazing Tokyo Ramen Tours is. PLEASE go on this tour, it was one of the best things I did while in Japan and worth every penny. Highly, HIGHLY recommended. Six stars :)

This tour was one of the best things we have done since arriving in Tokyo! Frank is such a nice friendly tour guide and knows so much about Ramen. It's history, origin and evolution and definitely the best places to eat it. We went to 3 different restaurants and tried 2 mini ramens in each. They were all delicious, my favorite was the second restaurant which was curry ramen. Will definitely go back there for another bowl before we leave. I highly recommend this tour!

Come hungry!! Let's face it, when you are in Tokyo there are tons of Ramen places to try out. However, Frank goes into the history of Ramen and explains how everything comes together. We were pleasantly surprised by all the variety of Ramen that Frank took us to experience. If you can swing it, bring a partner because at some shops they have more than 2 types of Ramen and you are allowed to choose 2 max. However, if you bring a partner you can try them all and more. We had a great time meeting new people and enjoying Ramen together. The afternoon went by very quickly and by the end of the tour we were beyond stuffed. Highly recommended tour! Thanks Frank.

I joined the online Ramen Experience and I learned a lot about Ramen! It was super interesting and it made me so hungry at 8 am even after my breakfast... so...I had to go for ramen right after the tour! Highly recommend!

Da bomb! Such a variety of ramens tried & not your ‘average’ stuff! Loved the exclusive-to-this-tour mini-bowls which had been negotiated, which allowed us to try so many more than would have otherwise been possible!... Frank is an awesome host too, constant entertainment! :)

If you're looking for something fun to do in these Covid times, I definitely recommend 5 AM Ramen's "Become a ramen expert" online experience. A ramen shop opened near us and we got some ramen to go for dinner one evening. Seeing three kinds of ramen on the menu (shoyu, shio, and miso), I did some research to learn more about them. During my research I discovered this "ramen expert" event. It sounded fun, so I purchased e-tickets as a gift for my partner. And it was great fun! Frank is very personable and friendly, as well as very knowledgeable about ramen. He was also vert patient and professional working out a day and time with me--even after I forgot to show up and we had to reschedule. Frank's presentation was very informative, engaging, and interactive. My partner Ron and I learned a lot about ramen. It's actually quite interesting. We had no idea there were so many types of ramen and ways of preparing it. I'm hoping one day to visit Japan and would definitely like to go on one of 5 AM Ramen's Tokyo Ramen Tours, especially now that Ron and I are "ramen experts"! We even have a certificate from 5 AM Ramen to prove it!

Few days ago I joined the "5am Ramen" Online Experience with Frank. It was amazing. Even when I have been living in Japan for more than 5 years, and I work for a Food Tours Company, I learned a lot. It was interesting, fun and visually great. Frank is the master of the noodles geeks. I really recommend this Online Experience - Alexandro
