A great few hours on heritage stock riding through the Moors. We had a lovely time. Everybody was happy and the team were all helpful. Our trains had refreshments, which were well received. Yes, it's not two pounds fifty pence to ride the trains. That's true. It costs a bit of money. But, end to end, we spent over four hours enjoying ourselves. A good day for us. We booked tickets online and collected print outs from the touchscreen machines (using our email reference number and surnames). We parked at Pickering for the day for only ยฃ5. Nice gift shop to remember our trip. A lovely experience. One I would repeat.

Absolutely excellent. The staff were friendly and in great period clothing. They steam engines were gorgeous. The carriages old and authentic. I really enjoyed it. Itโ€™s not the cheapest in the worldโ€ฆ cost ยฃ6 for a only way trip to the next station so that was ยฃ48 for 4 adults return. But hey, it was worth the travel. Enjoy!!

Amazing place! Just spent the day travelling around on their trains on kne of the most picturesque lines ever! We also booked on to the dining car and had a first class meal, washed down with local beer and finished off with a brandy! Each station has something unique to offer, and there are some great walks around the stations. Good selection of steam and heritage diesel

We stopped and had a spot of dinner in the cafe which was good value for money and ample and tasty. Also had a look round as we like steam trains and old railways. We will be back with grand kids in speing to ride the trains

Great destination, parking is difficult, so you may have to park further away, co-op or castle. There is an all day trip to Whitby about ยฃ80 or a shorter trip to Goathland about ยฃ20 (Harry Potter film). Lovely souvenir shop and cafe, do donate to keep this station running.

This is definitely up there as one of my favourite steam train journeys. Fantastic views of the North Yorkshire Moors, very comfortable seats, very friendly staff and lovely historic stations. The ยฃ45 yearly ticket is definitely worth it especially when you are going to be on it regularly; I am a little puzzled to why the day ticket is the same price though. The reason I didnโ€™t give it 5 stars is because of the long queue time and a few times the train has broken down however the views, people and the area there makes up for it. Would highly recommend.

Great attraction but a bit over priced for not being able to use the steam train on their journey we were on. The carriages and refreshment options for purchase were great and the stations beautiful. The scenery on route is gorgeous though and it is a fun attraction for dog owners.

Took the steam train from Whitby to Goathland, enjoying some fabulous views of the surrounding nature. Had 2 hours in Goathland before our train back, enough to go for a leisurely walk and enjoy some ice cream. Watching the steam train pull back into the station was great to see too. All in all a lovely afternoon out.

Lovely day out on the NYMR, starting at Whitby and finishing at Pickering, with return journey 3 hours later. Must be 25 years since we last did this railway, so were looking forward to it in early summer, rather than late autumn as last time. Seems to be far more tree cover now and less actual moorland, so not sure if this is natural growth or deliberate planting but there was far less heath to see. Still a lovely ride, through wonderful countryside. We'd planned to be pulled by steam engine so picked the times which were down as this on the timetable. However, something must have been up with the loco, as it was swapped for a heritage diesel at Grosmont, all the way to Pickering and then same on the return journey. Nice engine but not the sound and smell of the steam equivalent, sadly. Diesel fumes not the same as steam smoke. Quite expensive (ยฃ45 per person for return to Pickering from Whitby) but the tickets are valid for a whole year from date of purchase, if you are around anytime. Wish we lived up here, as there seems to be plenty to see if you stop off at intermediate stations. We'll have to come back!

An excellent railway journey through the the North Yorkshire Moors. The stations have been exquisitely restored, the scenery is fantastic, the staff are smart, knowledgeable and friendly. And for those who love steam power the locos in service are just brilliant. The sounds of a beautifully restored Black Five hammering up the gradient with a heavily laden train from Grosmont to Goathland are unforgettable!

This was the first time I've been for ages since I was much younger, and it still fills me with joy to this day. A fantastic day out for all the family. Food and drink served at most stations along the heretidge line, including on the train itself. You can ride from Pickering to Grosmont and some services will take you all the way to Whitby.its such a brilliant day out and If you're interested in seeing some of the locomotives up close, there is the engine shed at Grosmont which is worth checking out as well. Well worth a visit even though it's a little bit pricey. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I have visited the NYMR ever since I was a child and to this day (30plus years later) I still enjoy every minute of it. There is nothing like the sounds and smell of the old steam and diesel engines on the railways. The carriages them selves are well maintained and kept clean, but not restored to a new condition but kept with history. Staff are always helpful. There are a selection of drinks available on the train and you are welcome to take your own food and drink and eat on the train while enjoying the views. At Grosmont there is the repair yard where you can see training being restored and maintained, plus a store selling train related memorabilia including model train sets at a reasonable price. As I'm local I purchased a year pass and enjoy using the trains when ever I can.

Fantastic run through beautiful countryside from Pickering down to Whitby. The fact that the tickets are now an annual pass means we will be back again soon.

We went on the light fantastic tour which was great. Car parking was ยฃ5 for the evening although there was free parking elsewhere. Full toilet facilities were available along with shelter from the rain in a garden shed type structure. We were given light wrist bands which we could change modes on with a button; on the train the event took control of them dependant on whatโ€™s going on. The whole train was decked out in lights on the outside which looked great on approach. Inside the train it was also decked out in lights, during the trip there was music played from the 70s through to the early 2000s. Dancing in the aisles was encouraged, audience participation from your seat was encouraged, it was a great evening of entertainment. There was a trolly service available which had selected cold drinks, hot drinks and snacks. Prices were quite expensive but you would expect that from this kind of event. The trip lasted an hour from Pocklington to Levisham and then back again; based on our experiences I would totally recommend a trip.

One of Yorkshires finest. Has to be seen to be believed. I attended a gala so there were about 10 locos in steam but even on normal running days plenty to see and do especially at Goathland and Grosmont. A great day out for all the family

I've always enjoyed the time I spend on this railway. This time we went from Pickering To Whitby and managed to get in a first class carriage on the way there. Recommend visiting or travelling on.

Really cool experience. The train is so well kept and you get some amazing views on the journey to Whitby. We upgraded to first class on the way there and felt like we were in Harry potter!
