Arrived for a drink pre dinner reservation over the road . £17 for two drinks purchased and sat down to enjoy After 10 minutes we were advised that there was an online reservation on our table We said that we would enjoy our rather expensive drinks and leave. The young lady came back to inform us that the guests had arrived early, and that they would like us to leave now Again we said that we would rather finish our drinks Another of the bar staff came over with a refund of our drinks and Demanded that we leave The owner then also demanded that we leave immediately We again refused until we had finished our drinks This was in front of the whole pub If I could give no stars for service I would Avoid !

Really nice, clean and friendly pub with a well stocked bar. Food very expensive but this is the same all around Pickering for some reason. One big downside for me was we were sat enjoying a nice drink when a bar man approached us and said it was last orders at the bar. This was at 9.45 which for a tourist town was very strange. But this was Pickering and the majority of the restaurants and pubs where closed which we thought was not very good for visitors.

Walked into The Black Swan, Pickering last night, Saturday 3 June, without a reservation…… no issues, the staff set a table for us without any fuss. Ordered the Sea Bream and Lamb….. probably one of the nicest meals we have had, perfect. Friendly and attentive waiting on staff and great food. 5 stars well deserved!!

Excellent Hotel, we stayed for a weekend break, the room was first class, as were the fixtures and fittings The staff and owners were warm and welcoming nothing was too much trouble. The breakfasts were excellent as was the evening meal which we had on the day of our arrival. There was also excellent secure parking at the rear of the hotel. We would definitely recommend this hotel. Jill and Bob November 2023

Our room was lovely, spotless .modern understated decor ,comfy bed& pillows, nice shower room , complimentary shower gel , shampoo, conditioner and moisturising lotion had a mini bar but also a great selection of drinks free of charge , lovely big cups and glasses ,not those 2 sips and it's gone type , Bar food was very nice. Out door seating area was brilliant, with heaters ,and sheltered . It's an old inn so obviously stairs and steps , nooks and crannies , room had adjustable heating . We had a lovely stay, the staff were excellent. And breakfast delicious. Will stay again in a heartbeat

Enjoyed a great meal. After a starter of garlic mushrooms, the home made chicken pie was beautiful and my wife really enjoyed the lasagne. The staff were really friendly and managed to accommodate us late on despite being fully booked. Highly recommended.

We have just arrived home after a wonderful stay at the Black Swan in Pickering, we stayed for three nights with friends, who also enjoyed every moment of their stay. The host Jill is very warm and welcoming and friendly, they also have Gemma who is an absolute asset to the pub and accommodation, The rooms were beautiful, immaculately clean, everything you need in the room, breakfast was delicious and everything was cooked to perfection and how we asked for it to be cooked. We liked it so much that we went back and stayed another night before we went home at the end of the week after having visited York for a few days. We would absolutely stay here again when visiting the area. We visited Pickering, Thorton, Lee, Dale, Fountain Abbey, York. We also had a lovely meal here at the pub, all the staff are very friendly and once again the place was absolutely immaculate. Highly recommend. Yes, lots of steps as described on their website and all of their access information. This is an old quirky building, with lots of character. They have also provided a lovely outdoor seating area which is a really nice touch. We look forward to returning. Five 🌟 from us. Best wishes, Andrea and Nick

The room that my wife and I occupied (room 5) was excellent, and the service was excellent. The food, we had only one meal at the hotel, was excellent. We have only one very minor criticism, their was no anti slip mat in the shower making the shower floor more akin to an ice skating rink.

Had a superior room which was spacious and comfy. Breakfast was great and filled us up for the day. We ate in the pub in the evening. We didnt find much choice for our taste, but opted for steak which was beautifully cooked. Would maybe have liked it served with something other than a bit of grass as my oh calls it. However, overall portion was a good size and whilst it isn't the cheapest pub food it is a little bit more than that and in terms of quality you certainly get what you pay for. All of the staff were very friendly and couldnt do enough for you. If we were looking for an overnight stay again in the future, not too far away we would definitely consider staying here again.

Booked for a meal on a Saturday night and despite it being extremely busy staff were very prompt, friendly and attentive. Liked the quirky decor and atmosphere. We both had pies and they were very tasty also selection of few different beers brewed on site was bonus! 🍺 will be visiting again.

Absolutely amazing Sunday lunch, beef was the best I'd ever had. Staff extremely attentive but without being intrusive and very friendly. Added bonus was its dog friendly.
