My
child
is
a
complex
cardiac
and
lung
child.
She
spent
her
1st
year
of
life
in
the
Cardiac
ICU
and
Heart
and
Kidney
unit
at
Children's
National
in
Washington
DC
for
multiple
Cardiac
repairs
and
other
surgeries.
They
are
rated
Leap
frogs
5th
in
the
nation
for
Children's
Hospitals.
The
care
there
is
Excellent!!
She
is
actually
one
of
Children's
Miracle
Network
poster
Children
because
of
how
they
saved
her
life.
However,
my
daughter
was
ill
in
July.
I
took
her
to
Sunrise
Children's
Hospital.
She
was
misdiagnosed
with
a
viral
illness
and
bronciolitis
by
2
Attending
physicians
in
the
Peds
ER.
I
informed
both
physicians
her
extensive
cardiac
and
lung
history.
Also,
that
she
was
in
cardiac
fluid
overload.
However,
she
had
to
wait
4
hours
in
the
peds
ER.
I
requested
a
check
for
covid
and
flu
due
to
our
recent
travel
twice!!
She
was
febrile
and
vomiting.
They
sent
her
home
initially.
And
when
I
took
her
back
for
low
oxygen
sats
and
anasarca
in
the
face.
They
ordered
a
saline
neb
instead
of
lasix
.
I
told
them
she
needs
lasix
for
her
heart.
She
never
got
swabbed
for
the
flu
until
I
requested
it
again
upon
admission.
Flu
positive,
she
was
and
in
respiratory
distress.
Breathing
rate
in
the
50s.
She
is
13
years
old!!!
A
cardiac
and
lung
patient
with
chronic
lung
disease,
she
was
admitted
to
a
general
pediatric
floor!!
I
called
her
pulmonolgist
and
informed
him
what
was
going
on
in
the
Peds
Ed.
4
hours
later
still
no
lasix
in
the
ED.
Nor
a
cardiology
consult
until
I
demanded
one.
Poor
care
and
her
heart
was
overloaded
!
From
too
much
fluid.
When
she
got
admitted
then
the
MD
prescribed
lasix.
My
daughter
diuressed
1
liter
of
urine.
Then
she
was
able
to
breathe
again
and
get
off
oxygen.
She
was
feeling
better
and
was
working
toward
going
home.
But
that
evening
she
became
hypoxic
and
confused
due
to
cardiac
overload
again.
No
one
thought
to
properly
calculate
the
maintenance
fluids
and
medications
in
fluid
given
to
her.
The
unit
is
understaffed
and
no
one
attends
monitors
at
the
desk.
I
had
to
demand
help
for
my
daughter
again.
The
respiratory
therapist
came
to
give
her
the
scheduled
nebulizer
treatment
that
she
takes
daily
.
She
also
listened
to
her
lungs
and
informed
the
medical
staff
that
she
was
in
respiratory
distress
again.
I
placed
my
child
back
on
oxygen
prior
to
the
RT
coming
to
the
room.
And
requested
assistance
by
pressing
the
call
bell.
No
staff
was
at
the
desk.
When
I
asked
for
the
charge
nurse,
that
is
when
care
was
initiated
and
consults
were
provided
for
my
daughter.
Lasix
was
given
1
hour
late
this
time.
The
cardiologist
came
to
evaluate
her.
He
asked
where
is
the
lasix
for
her,
and
told
them
to
stop
her
fluids
now.
If
I
had
not
been
present
to
advocate
for
my
child.
I
know
for
sure
my
daughter
would
have
been
intubated
that
evening.
She
has
a
low
threshold
for
illness
and
fever.
She
gets
into
respiratory
distress
easily.
And
has
been
intubated
multiple
time
in
the
past
.
Due
to
her
complex
heart
issues.
She
has
never
been
admitted
to
a
general
Pediatric
floor
ever
in
her
life
with
CHF.
Due
to
her
complex
medical
history.
Actually
at
Children's
National
in
her
medical
record
she
is
labeled
as
a
high
risk
child.
And
always
is
admitted
to
only
the
CICU
or
the
Heart
and
Kidney
unit
which
is
an
IMC.
I
filed
a
complaint
to
risk
management.
Was
unable
to
speak
with
anyone
about
the
poor
management
of
my
Cardiac
Child.
They
sent
a
letter
telling
me
for
clarity
to
request
her
medical
records.
Never
acknowledged
the
errors
in
her
care.
I
know
my
child's
history
very
well,
and
when
she
is
about
to
circle
the
drain.
And
she
was
in
harms
way!
Do
not
ever
take
your
Cardiac
child
to
Sunrise
emergency
room,
or
let
them
get
admitted
to
the
general
peds
floor.
The
medical
staff
lacks
knowledge
for
caring
for
complex
children.
And
they
have
a
non
medical
person
name
Tyrone
Walker
reply
to
your
parent
safety
concerns.
Risk
management
does
not
speak
with
you
to
hear
the
concerns.
Sunrise
Children's
is
unsafe
for
Lung
and
Cardiac
Children.
With
the
exception
of
the
CICU
.
They
give
stellar
care
for
Cardiac
Children.
