A
great
place
to
visit
and
get
reminded
of
the
former
international
importance
of
this
now
poor,
dreary
and
forgotten
little
town.
Hopefully
the
promise
of
much-needed
and
deserved
inward
investment/development
will
help
to
reverse
the
decline
in
the
fortunes
of
this
Cumbrian
community.
The
Heritage
Centre/Museum
is
extremely
informative
and
full
of
interesting
industrial
history.
Furthermore,
the
volunteer
staff
are
very
helpful
and
enthusiastic.
Allow
2-3
hours
for
your
visit:
it's
also
a
wonderful
place
to
shelter
if
a
rainy
day,(of
which
we
have
many
here
in
Cumbria!),threatens
to
spoil
your
visit
to
this
area.
Whilst
in
the
vicinity,
and
on
a
fine
day,(of
which
we
have
few
here
in
Cumbria!),
don't
miss
the
opportunity
to
walk
along
the
outer
sea
defences
near
Haverigg
Marine
Village
and
to
visit
the
nearby
Millom
Rock
Park
at
Gill
Scaugh
Quarry.
Preferably
stay
clear
of
a
prolonged
visit
to
adjacent
HMP
Haverigg!!
