From the moment I drove up until I drove off, I was very pleased. This little restaurant is a family owned treasure. It was my first visit and hopefully not my last. Unfortunately, I'm not a resident of Milwaukee. It's clean and sanitary which is a major issue for many small establishments but not them, not at Blue Star. You could eat of the floor but don't. Lol Before I could open the door the aroma filled the air. My mouth watered so much I could barely order. Considering everything we ordered was made fresh and the fact that we were behind two others, I was surprised how quickly the food arrived. She had vegan and non vegan options. The customer service(we met the chef) was out of this world. I thought I was at home in my grandmother's kitchen. The food had love and joy in every bite. The atmosphere is family friendly and welcoming.

Got the chicken suqaar with noodles and it was truly one of the best meals I've had all year. Such rich flavor, just the right amount of kick, and very filling! I will definitely be back whenever I'm in Milwaukee!

Everything about this place is amazing. The owner is just a sweet guy, pretty down to earth . Their beef sandwich is simply so tasty, huge and juicy. And the prices are unbelievably low relative to the quality of food. 100% recommended.

If you have any hesitation, squash that hesitation like a bug and come eat here! Your taste buds will thank you later! For as long as I've lived in the east side I have come to blue star! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Service is so friendly and professional. Servings are plenty large, especially for the price! I get two meals out of kay Kay or platters, mostly because it's so good I want it to last 2 days. Kay Kay is probably my favorite thing on the menu. They pile that bad boy high with yummy, broth-soaked ciabatta, raisins, potato, onion, and your choice of meat. And you have to get a spider of either hummus or sambusas, obviously!!

I have little to no experience with Somali/East African food so there’s nothing for me to compare it to. All I’ll say is it’s amazing. The goat is so good and tender, their rice is filled with flavor, the service is so friendly and accommodating. The husband and wife (I assume) that run this place were both so friendly and grateful. I tried the goat, tilapia, sambusa, and pita with hummus and all were delicious. Oddly, something that’s as really memorable here was the pita which I wasn’t expecting. They’re very rich and.. buttery? I could eat a stack of those alone. Also take caution depending on who makes their green sauce—it can get spicy and I am no stranger to hot sauce! I definitely can’t recommend this place enough, and encourage others to try something new and support a local business!

Absolutely loved everything I had! The kay Kay with tender goat was amazing. Sambusas were excellent, especially the beef with the green sauce. Prices were affordable and serving size was generous. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Been eating here for years and they’re always consistent. The sambusas got smaller but they are reasonably priced so I just order more. The Steak on Kay Kay (crepe) is my go to dish. Everything is made to order so it’s a 20 minute wait when extremely busy.

Amazing food, great value, nice couple that run it. Clean space. Tender goat on Kay Kay was great, so was the chicken suqaa on rice. Chai was excellent as well, baklava was huge!

Absolutely amazing! Came in 15 mins before close, the guy seemed pretty upset. But regardless he made my food, not knowing I was technically a first time customer. The lady working was very nice and pleasant. Food was bomb dot come. Will be a forever customer here. Can't believe I have lived so long on the east side and never knew. Stop reading and go try this place.

first: I had the tilapia platter , my partner had the goat platter, we were silent for the first probably ten minutes of eating simply because the food was so good and flavorful it had all of our attention! Now that you know you really gotta try this place: It took me back to home cooked meals that I hadn't had in years. This single plate of food was more flavorful and interesting than probably most meals I've had since moving to Milwaukee. I'm looking forward to going back already.

I ate here for the first time and got the Somali style steak last night and it was absolutely amazing. I was a little skeptical at first because it doesn’t look like much but it was so flavorful and tender. The rice is some of the best rice I’ve ever had. You also MUST get the mango juice. It is so good and so refreshing. I had no idea that I would love Somalian food so much. Honestly, this is some of the best takeout I’ve had in Milwaukee. Will definitely be a regular here.

It was our first time eating there. They welcomed us kindly and explained the menu. It seemed like everyone there knew each other so it was a very relaxed experience. The food was GOOD. We had the Tender Goat and it lived up to the name. It was very tender and flavorful. The side of rice with veggies and raisins was also really good. We'd definitely go back.

A gem in the town. I have been going here since 2014. Good Somali food. Prices are very reasonable and portion sizes are good. Food is very delicious. Give it a try and you will get hooked. The owners are very humble and nice couple. They add a personal touch to their service. Definitely try the tender goat platter. They charge less and give decent amount of food. No gratuity or service charges either. Leaving a good tip is surely recommended.

The tender goat is so good! Blue Star Cafe has been my favorite restaurant find in Milwaukee. Awesome little place that I continue to return to when I can.

Just had lunch here. The Goat platter and the steak platter were really good. Loved the flavourful rice!! There was so much goat meat and the platter was a really good price. Clean cozy place with friendly people. Wish it was closer to us to come more often!

Home of the best carryout on the east side. I normally get the chicken platter with basmati rice, but everything here is delicious. The friendly owners are usually the one's taking your order and making your food. I don't know how they get their chicken so tender and flavorful. On my first visit several years ago, I was a little skeptical about having raisins in my rice along with small pieces of potato. But the sweet raisins offer a great flavor contrast when you add the spicy green homemade jalapeno sauce. And I'd highly recommend getting an extra container of that green sauce.

AMAZING food, especially the goat platter. This was probably the best goat I've had since spending 2.5 years in East Africa as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Have the fresh watermelon juice and a sambusa on the side and you are in for a great meal.

I can't say enough about the Somali Steak Sandwich, so tender and yummy. And the green sauce that comes with... That green sauce is so FRESH tasting, I just love it. I've had good Baklava there, too. I overheard like 6 people get the tender goat but I just can't give up my Somali Steak Sandwich. Good people working there! The atmosphere to me is classic East Side Milwaukee!
