Andy - what a sweetheart. Super approachable, super knowledgeable, super friendly and super fun! We had a chilled out day cycling around the ‘burbs of Tokyo. Really enjoyed the ride and the spots he took us to. Felt like a local by the end of it all thanks to the very accommodating Andy!

Highly recommend this tour! Andy is a fantastic guide and it is a great way to see the city from a more local perspective. It is easy to do the tourist sightseeing on your own time. It was also a smaller group which made it much easier to get around. It's clear Andy has put a lot of thought into the stops, commentary and how to ensure the group has an enjoyable time.

Andy is really fun to go for an afternoon bike ride with. He's a laidback Aussie and his friendly style is very familiar to us kiwis! It was great to learn so much about his life and family in Japan. He took us to some really interesting and quirky places which is ideal if you want a trip a little out of the ordinary rather than the standard parks and temples, which was exactly what we wanted. He also introduced us to the best noodle lunch we had in Japan, absolutely outstanding! Thanks Andy.

Touring the backstreets of a Tokyo suburb with Andy was fascinating and brilliant. He was very generous with his knowledge and time, and he gave us so much great information about Japanese life and culture. The cycling is easy and he kept a close eye on us to ensure we were safe and didn't get lost. He has an easy manner and a great sense of humour that helped our few hours with him fly by and our group got on really well. Highly recommended -- even if you've been to Tokyo before, you'll see something new with Andy.

WOW. This tour was amazing. We got to see so much of the city and learn so much along the way. Andy was great at helping us adjust the bikes and making sure that we were safe riding along the whole way. There wasn't a single moment where we felt like we were going too fast or riding in dangerous situations. We felt super safe and loved the ride. Also, the place we stopped for food? OMG so good. Would give a million stars if I could.

We recently had the pleasure of touring Tokyo with Andy. We had a great time. His traffic-free routes took us through parts of the city we would not have seen without him and his insight into many aspects of life there was fascinating. Highly recommended.

After having cycled on 3 different occasions with Andy, I can wholeheartedly recommend his tours to everyone! Andy is a great guide who will take you to Tokyo's backstreets which are a must to explore. Accompanied by local food stalls and fun stories, you will discover a new side to Tokyo! Do yourself a favour and hop on a bicycle with Andy; it is an experience you will not forget!

We really enjoyed our morning cycle with Andy. He was a very pleasant guide and showed us parts of the city we would never have been to otherwise, which is exactly what we wanted. It was a fairly easy cycle for an active person, the bikes were comfortable and well maintained, and the meals and snacks were lovely. Andy was a really pleasant, warm and friendly guide. He has an interesting perspective and many insights into the culture of Japan. He was generally very communicative, helpful in getting us oriented to Japan (geographically and culturally), and went above and beyond when we had an issue with the company we booked through (booking directly after our initial reservation was cancelled was very straightforward). I was glad we were in the morning because of the July heat, but Andy has designed a good balance of biking and rest stops to keep everyone comfortable in challenging weather conditions. A great way to start our trip - very worthwhile.

We did two tours with Andy and DIG Tokyo tours. I like these kind of tours as you get to explore areas of a city that you would really have no reason to unless you lived there. Also go to ride some sweet hand made Japanese steel bikes. Make sure you read the tour description as one is really more a ride than a tour but that's exactly what we wanted.

Andy was an excellent guide for this unique bike tour. He let us know the Japanese bike etiquette and how Japanese people live with their bike, and always cared our safety along the tour. We parked at some places and took a walk and enjoyed some local food. I loved his story telling and his interpretation of some local culture. I highly recommend this tour especially for those who got already tired of busy/typical central Tokyo tours.

I really enjoyed the West Side bike tour with Andy! Part of what I enjoy about traveling to a new city is to absorb local neighborhoods, and Andy was a great ambassador to his slice of Tokyo. The bikes were in good shape and well maintained, and we always felt safe and comfortable on our ride. Andy seemed quite attuned to us, and checked in quite often to make sure we felt comfortable. Since we were a small group, Andy was also able to tailor the ride to our interests; since he generally only takes out small groups, I have no doubt he'd solicit inputs ahead of heading out, to make sure the tour met his group's interests. During the trip, we visited a handful of local neighborhoods, quiet shrines, spacious parks, and typical eating establishments. The access we were able to get from Andy was awesome -- as a tourist, I would have never thought to explore the areas we saw with him, and I was really happy we were able to spend a day in regular neighborhoods, parks, shopping centers, and restaurants. I would highly recommend this trip to those wanted to get off the beaten path and see a real life neighborhood through the lens of a local.

If we could we would ride all day every day with Andy. We got to see a side of Tokyo that as a tourist you usually don’t get to see – the neighborhoods where the people of Tokyo live and spend time. Lots of beautiful parks and hidden paths that take you away from the hustle of Tokyo’s center and into a much calmer world. Andy took great care of us: picked us up, made sure we weren’t tired and were doing good during the ride, and showed us the way back to our station. We also learned a lot about living in Tokyo from Andy. Please make sure you can comfortably ride over 20km at a medium pace, and you will have the best time.

Andy is friendly wonderful guide that showed us some of the lesser known spots of West Tokyo suburb. The guided tour consists of walking with intermittent stops for snacks along the way. He shared with us his experience living in Japan and all interesting quirks of Japanese living. Very insightful and relaxing way to see other parts of Tokyo.

We had a great time with Andy, this tour was an excellent way to experience a different side of Tokyo. The tour we took had us riding through suburban Tokyo stopping at local food merchants and stores. Andy was an great guide with a great insight into a typical day in Tokyo! We were also pretty lucky that our other group members were fun as well. Don't be too stressed if you don't feel up for a bike ride none of the riding was too strenuous!

Andy was an amazing guide and shared a lot of his experiences and picked the right track and spots for the tour. Very impressed by the local / authentic feeling and impressions. I can strongly recommend it and very nice bikes. Thank you so much also for the recommendations, Andy :)

It was a relaxing and pleasant experience swerving around the small streets of Tokyo on a bicycle. I can’t stress enough how great of a guide Andy is. He was an easy going guy and great to talk to. I’ll definitely be keen to book this experience again!

Thank you Andy for the beautiful cycling day, we’ve got to explore the West side of Tokyo in the way that we couldn’t do by ourselves. Andy is a perfect guide, very thoughtful and pleasant. My favourite part is cycling along the river, fantastic ! And we got a lot of snacks too . We all love it ! Don’t miss it out !

If you are looking for a break from the craziness of central Tokyo and you want to see life in west Tokyo, Andy’s tour is for you. (Although the route is pretty flat and at a comfortable pace, you will be dodging pedestrians and poles.) Andy was amiable, taught our group about local customs and daily life, and took us to off the beaten tourist path. We were well-fed, and I loved cycling under the cherry blossoms !

Amazing tour! 100% recommended, we got back following the guide instructions for lunch and found an amazing sushi place inside the market he took us in the trip. Very happy with this activity.

Andy was a very pleasant guide. Living in Tokyo himself, he can clearly explain the Japanese society in great detail. Our group was very exicted afterwards!

What a great way to spend several hours! Andy is a great host who will show you culture and food off the beaten path. If you're worried about your biking abilities or bike size, don't worry, Andy has all sizes. One of the more memorable experiences in Tokyo!

(Translated by Google) I highly recommend this experience to be a real glimpse of the real japanese life. Andy was very friendly, he answered all our questions without showing any impatience. Quite the contrary, he considered our interests while visiting shops. Who just loved the bicycling through the narrowed residential and commercial streets. We loved pedaling through the narrow streets and seeing these places that we would never have discovered on our own. Andy was very friendly; not at all embarrassed to talk about his gaijin experience in Japan and his daily life. He was also interested in us, not making us feel like mere numbers. Do not hesitate to live this experience! (Original) I highly recommand that experience to who ever whats to have a glimpse of the real japanese life.

This is an absolutely fantastic tour. It is especially a highlight if you’ve been to Tokyo and hit the main attractions and want to experience a more local perspective. Not to mention the food we tried were yummy bites we’d never have known about on our own. I still think about those grilled rice cakes!!! Don’t hesitate... book now!

Incredible biking experience to some of the lesser known neighborhoods around Tokyo. So cool to learn about the country, culture, and find hidden spots from a local guide. Highly recommended!

Andy is an excellent host. Right from the start he makes you feel welcome and knows what he is doing. He will show you some of the aspects of Japanese culture you may not get to see if you spend all your time in the big cities, and is very knowledgeable when it comes to culture. Make sure you are comfortable with riding a bike! There isn’t a ton of riding but it may be a bit much to take in if you have never ridden a bike before. Overall a great experience!

This was one of my most memorable afternoons of travel--anywhere, and at anytime. Andy keeps things at a comfortable and leisurely and enjoyable pace, while also making sure that you cover some ground--not just literally, but also in learning. Great snacks and Andy's observations and insights leads to a day of feeling what it might be like to LIVE here, not just tick off all the items on a tourist list. After a truly lovely ride and some absolutely lovely snacks, he also pointed us in the right direction to continue our evening, hanging with the locals at stand up bars in the beautiful lit back streets of Nakano. I cannot recommend this trip--or this guide--any more enthusiastically. Do it. And bring your friends!

What a lovely tour and wonderful experience! Andy was an amazing guide. We had such a lovely day and learned so many interesting facts both about the area as well as about the culture. This was a great way to start my 3 week trip in Japan and my 5 days in Tokyo specifically! Andy gave me a ton of interesting and valuable information as we made our way through the neighbourhoods by bike. Where we ate our lunch and snacks were places you wouldn’t necessarily stumble on by yourself, which is exactly what I wanted! He was also super helpful in answering general questions I had about Japanese culture and lifestyle and also about my potential plans for the rest of my time in Tokyo. Highly recommend this tour!

We did a cycle tour with Andy on Sunday and it was the best thing we did in Tokyo. We got to experience some of the smaller neighbourhoods and stunning streets which was a great contrast to the business of other areas of Tokyo. Andy taught us about the traditional culture which was incredibly interesting and gave us many types of Japanese snacks and food to try. Would highly recommend to anyone as a must do in Tokyo! Thanks Andy!

A group of 4 of us went on the tour with Andy last week and had an absolutely amazing time. Great local knowledge and stories. Got to see so many areas of Tokyo we would never have found. Great to have an English speaker with Japanese to converse with the locals. Learnt so much, great route and delicious food. Would recommend to anyone! Thanks again Andy!

Highly morning spent with Andy getting to know the west side of Tokyo! He was very informative, friendly and the tour was operated at a comfortable pace. Andy was always conscious of keeping the group together and prioritised the wishes of the group at all times even if it wasn’t what he originally planned. We had an authentic vending machine drink in the morning, delicious gyoza for lunch and topped it off with a traditional red bean cake - all included. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Japan!

This was a really fantastic Tokyo experience! Myself, my wife and our three boys (13, 12 & 11) had a great day with Andy, cycling around the west side of Tokyo. Andy was very knowledgeable, helpful, safety conscious (great when you have kids) and very engaging. He lead us on an exciting bike ride through the back streets of Tokyo and we feasted on some delicious, local Japanese snacks and lunch on route. Our whole family couldn’t wipe the smiles off our faces at the end! Thanks Andy for a very memorable day!

This bicycle tour is AMAZING. Andy was a wonderful tour guide who catered to everyone's needs in the group. He was kind, highly informative and easy to talk to. The bike riding was done at the perfect pace, and no one was left behind. The food was different and delicious!!! It was great getting to see the lesser-known parts of surburban Tokyo! I had the best time on this tour and would recommend it 100% to anyone interested in exploring this amazing city.

We are so glad we went on Andy's bike tour! My adult children and I all appreciated being able to see a part of Tokyo that we would have otherwise missed. The bikes were super easy to ride and we liked being able to have helmets. Andy went at a speed that was perfect for our small group, and we all appreciated his commentary and frequent food stops. Andy was also able to answer some of our questions we had about local customs. He is welcoming, knowledgeable and a fantastic guide. I highly recommend this tour!!

Meeting Andy and joining him on his bike tour is one of the highlights of our trip to Tokyo. His knowledge of the local area, Japanese customs and everyday life gives you a good insight as to how people of Japan live. We have walked all over Tokyo seeing the usual tourist sites but Andys tour topped them all. For anyone that maybe concerned with the 15km ride don't be it's very flat and easy going with many interesting stops along the way and the food is lovely.

Great experience bike riding in an area of Tokyo that you may not normally go to on your own. I was also able to sample different foods that I may not have tried or been aware of otherwise. The area that we toured was (for lack of better words) was more suburban and less big city (in my opinion) which I though was great! Andy was able to share a lot about the culture and had great insights. I would recommend doing this experience to anyone that enjoys riding bikes. Be on time! I was perfectly on-time and then we waited 15 minutes for another couple that we ultimately left behind in effort to stick to the schedule. It really worked out for me because it was then just Andy and I and then we were able to cover more ground with a smaller group but felt bad for the situation of having to leave others behind.

I cannot reccomend these guys enough.. taking us around on 'mothers chariot' bikes (no carbon in sight) around some amazing streets of suburban tokyo, was a real privilege getting to see the sights of real life. Andy was a great host and we ate at a local standing noodle bar, root French fries and amazing desserts. Also got some pointers on great local shopping, picking up some unique gifts for the family ...so if you ever in tokyo, look this guy up for an amazing experience.

The tour was great. It gave me a good understanding of how people live in Tokyo. It felt 'off the well-worn tourist track', going through lots of different areas. It was good fun 'eating like a local' (eg. at a stand up noodle bar) and Andy was a very informative tour guide, having lived here for many years. Thanks Andy!

Great way to see Tokyo - if you have half a day and want to get a good feel of everyday life in Tokyo, then this is a must. Andy takes you down some narrow streets and shows you different parts of inner Tokyo that you just wouldn't see as an everyday tourist visiting the city. It's all easy flat riding and Andy gets you tasting some of their everyday food and gives some good info on culture on the way. Thanks Andy and all the best !!

We are a family of four with two teenagers and we all had a fantastic day with Andy on his West Side Cycling and Food Tour. This is a wonderfully unique tour that provides a great range of experiences. Whether it was cruising through the back streets seeing how the locals live, checking out cool eating/drinking areas, eating at spots we would never have thought to try and loving every bit of it! Andy is a great guide, very informative and very accommodating. This has been a highlight of our trip, a very memorable experience.

Our bike ride with Andy was epic--in the pouring rain! We really appreciate that Andy was willing to give us options -- a local walking tour instead of biking since the rain was really hard. However, we kept with the plans and went ahead with the bike tour and we were all glad we got a chance to see the Koenji neighborhood and nearby areas with so many little side streets - both residential and commercial. Not having to look at a map gave us a nice sense of relaxation and enjoyment. Andy has created a very safe and enjoyable route. He was very friendly and informative, sharing his perspective and knowledge about Tokyo and what it's like to live there. My whole family (kids are 12 and 14) enjoyed the bike ride and time together. We had some really nice ramen, which helped warm our wet bones. It was very very wet and still a lot of fun.

Don’t think twice! Absolutely brilliant tour with a great guy who will allow you to see a side of Tokyo you otherwise wouldn’t see. Great fun cruising round the streets of suburbia and getting a taste for local life and areas that aren’t geared towards the tourist. Andy is very knowledgeable, attentive and is more than happy to answer any questions. Take my word and give this a go!

This was a great tour. I took it last moment as I was in a meeting and had no time to think about this, and Andy was great. Funny, knowledgeable and took us to see the "real" Tokyo. He too care of us through the trip, got us drinks and food and in general was very attentive. The trip is really not hard for whoever can ride the bike. Highly recommended!

We had a great time with Andy, he’s super friend and had local knowledge that we wouldn’t have been able to get on our own. The tour itself was light and enjoyable. We made the mistake of doing the tour a few weeks into our trip, doing it sooner would have been a better experience.

  • 5/5 Elizabeth A. 4 years ago on Google
Andy is fantastic! Don’t hesitate - take one of his tours! This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. The bike is just a fun way to zip around, the neighborhoods you ride through are beautiful, and Andy’s tips and info on Tokyo/Japan are super insightful and helpful! He answered all our questions and gave amazing recommendations - I can’t say enough positive things about him and this tour. Do yourself a favor and book him now. I also highly recommend doing it as early into your trip as possible so you can really take advantage of all his recommendations!

Absolutely fantastic tour starting in Koenji and working our way through this unique part of Tokyo. Andy is a warm, generous host; he made sure we were all safe and included in the riding and activities. The tour was informative and exciting in itself, and it also gave me plenty to come back and explore over the 2 weeks I spent in the area. Andy was able to seamlessly adapt our plan as the weather changed, and we were all really happy with our experience! I recommend this trip to anyone wanting a real down-to-earth experience in Tokyo, and have plenty to share when it’s done! Thanks again Andy, I hope I’m back soon to say hi! Patrick

Fabulous tours with Andy! We spent two days doing two different types of touring. First day Andy took us to all the major sites of Tokyo and really gave us a feel of the city. The second day we did his walking food tour and had an amazing time eating our way through small local neighborhoods. Andy really was able to give us a feel for the Japanese culture and way of life. I would highly recommend his tours!

This was exactly the sort of tour I enjoy. Andy was relaxed and personable and showed us how the Japanese people live. It was fun and interesting. We were a group of 8 men who have been to a lot of places and we all found this tour to be one of the best ever. If you are interested in how the Japanese live and their customs (without the boring bits) I highly recommend this tour!

We were 4 couples from Sydney, exciting to have found, what promised to be, an interesting adventure of local knowledge and food. It did not disappoint! Andy is a very personable fella. He lives in the area and has established a terrific touring business, which he clearly enjoys conducting. Happy to spread the word on this one, and will let the secondary school I work at know that the experience would be great for the senior students, when they travel to Japan.

Dig Tokyo West Side Ride and Food Bike Tour is a fun way to experience the real Tokyo. Andy is full of wonderful local information as we wound our way through back street laneways on his cool pre loved bikes. I highly recommend anyone visiting Tokyo to add this to their itinerary.

Had an absolutely amazing time with Andy. We got to really enjoy the more rural local parts of Tokyo via the Koenji and Nakano districts which are a great detour and much needed quieter pace compared to the hustle and bustle of some of the other major parts of Tokyo. Andy provided us with some really interesting facts and trivia along the way and we got treated to a delicious local udon noodle lunch. Andy was also happy to answer any questions we had after the tour was over which was very thoughful as his local knowledge helped us find hidden (non tourist trappy) spots in the city we wouldn't have found ourselves. My friends and I really enjoyed the experience and was a great way to kick off a holiday. Cannot recommend enough, Thank you again Andy!
