We were booked in their 2 bedrooms the bad part about these rooms is that they are not are private when it comes to noise reduction, you can here the other person in the other talking on the phone so clearly you'd swear you are in the same room. Second defect there is no network in the whole area so they fitted Wi-Fi to give us a bit of comfort. So if you are a regular call maker brase yourself. As for breakfast you won't regret they have the meanest breakfast buffet you'll really enjoy.

My kids loved it, loved the fact that its green. The place must have been one hell of a hotel back in the days. What I hated is how dirty the bathrooms are. Not clean at all. Under the bed is also dirty. Those floor tiles really need to be changed in the bathrooms. It's not hygienic because your cleaning staff are not cleaning. We came back from sightseeing and found them wet. I had to pour soap on the floor just for the odour to die down. The showers are horribly dirty, smelly, old soap scum. I was really not impressed. Receptionists were lovely, good customer service. Very friendly staff and the food was good. Beef up the cleaning and add bar fridges. Whether self catering or not, a bar fridges and microwaves are a necessity. We travel with kids and sometimes we need to warm up food especially with the limited restaurants menu that does not cater for kids.

The place is okay.. The outdoor is beautiful however the rooms are not clean, you'll find spiderwebs and spiders everywhere including the corners of the shower 🥴. Even outside, there's no way you won't catch a spiderweb with your forehead 😂 and a few baby snakes will pass by your feet🐍 if not get on your feet like they did with me. The staff is friendly and offer great service. The breakfast is good however its the same servings everyday. The pool side is nice however has algae. The pool tiles need some scrubbing.

We booked a wonderful quick getaway to celebrate our wedding anniversary and as we got there the staff booked us in. When we got to the room the room had a very bad odor and the bedding was not fresh. We asked to cancel and they offered us a refund after advising them we do not want to stay there anymore. It’s been 2 weeks now and still no refund. Not a great place to stay. Very unhappy with the service. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.

Very neglected, garden and environment looks unkept. Reception staff rude.Cockroaches in room,Linen stained and bathroom old, bath and basin stained and taps loose. What was meant to be a celebration of 40 years wedding anniversary turned sour.My brother in England tried to arrange a bottle of wine in our room to no success. The only positive note was the waiters who tried their best- by name William and Andrew and the food was lovely. My firt visit and my last.

I personally loved their outdoors and restaurants. Let me not forget their food. From breakfast to dinner, I was just satisfied. I cannot even begin to tell you how wonderful the pool area is. It was just clean, and the Breeze is all you want during summer and spring. As much as my room was clean, I think it is about time you look into revamping the bathrooms. They are no longer up to standard (I noticed some rooms were getting revamped which is great) . My room was just clean and it was just cleaned when I came through

Uniquely situated in the hills. Wonderful garden and atmosphere. Staff were very friendly, helpful and polite. They have very good customer service- all the way from the front desk to the groundsmen and the room cleaners..very friendly! One thing that they do not have in the rooms which I feel would make it an even better experience is a small bar fridge. Other than that everything was catered for with daily room service and very good breakfast buffet!

The level of service is absolutely appalling, by far the worst I’ve ever experienced - clearly a total lack of mismanagement. The staff aren’t trained nor equipped to deal with guests properly - very poor attitude especially at the bar. Requested to see the manager due to false assurances given to us by staff but till this day we haven’t seen him/her who clearly ghosted us.

The place is absolutely gorgeous. I love everything about it. The only thing that they need to improve is the customer service from the caretaker as he was accusing us of stealing a towel and a bowl. They need to.also put in bar fridges in the rooms because it becomes a problem, food get spoilt from the heat. Overall the place is peaceful

I was in room 25 and when I woke up my closth3s wear wet, only to find out that the roof was leaking all the way through to the ceiling, the food also was not nice. The service itself and the personnel were good, just not the room I used.

I spend only 1 night due to work purposes. My room had spiderwebs (Room 41), the shower head was blocked, the heater was just not working and it was a very cold night. The food was ok. However I think you can improve your services and do better, the place it not that bad.

Nice location and pool area was a good place to sit after a long day. The linen was not fresh and the rooms have a horrible odor making sleeping there a nightmare. They also need more variety with their food. Staff was friendly and really try their best to make the visit a bit more enjoyable.

The only reason why this gets a star is because of the hot stone massage. We also had great company ( we were a group of 8) otherwise it would get no star at all. There are a few things we were unhappy with, the place over all needs an upgrade. The rooms are outdated and pretty dirty. The shower had all scum that could easily come off with a good clean, it’s so dirty you barely want to touch the shower walls. The rooms are dark and dingy. There was a foul smell in the area we slept in, while they fixed this sewerage issue the place didn’t bother moving us another room. We just had to bare with the oudor. The food was edible, really not the greatest, especially for the price. Common areas looked pretty okay. It rained most of the weekend and some common areas had buckets all over to catch water from leaking roofs. Overall not a great experience alot of work needs to be done for it to look as pretty inside as it does outside.

An amazing time . The gardens are beautiful and little surprises like mongoose running around. Felt so relaxed. The rooms are great value and staff are very accommodating and friendly. I have booked again. 😁

On 14 May 2023, Mothers' Day, we visited Shangri-La Country Hotel & Spa for a booked lunch. The place came highly recommended and was packed some years ago, according to my Mom. From the moment of our arrival at the closed gate, things started going pear-shaped. There was no answer at either of the two contact telephone numbers, nor at the intercom provided at the gate. Fifteen to twenty minutes later an employee arriving for his shift let us in, shaking his head at our predicament. The parking space was deserted, an ominous sign. Bringing the clearly unacceptable situation at the gate to the "manager's" attention elicited a strong case of denialism, supported by excuses of WIFI problems, etc. Absolutely no apology or sense of empathy was forthcoming. An order for a round of medium cream sherry before lunch triggered a suggestion of Old Brown sherry from the waiter... Lunch, on the whole, was acceptably prepared, with the exception of vegetables served cold with the Eisbein and Oxtail dishes. After lunch we elected to take coffee in the lounge and enjoy the leafy surroundings. However, it became difficult to hear ourselves over the din caused by the raucous laughter and chatting of waiting staff and the "manager" floating about in the lounge area. At this stage we decided we had had enough and left, thoroughly disappointed. Shangri-La will not be on our list of preferred venues until there is some semblance of effective training and management at the establishment. It is a pity that such a superbly situated and appointed (seemingly) venue could be so comprehensively let down by unprofessional staff.

Very beautiful place, friendly staff just a little bit slow with service. However overall good experience. Will recommend as a good stay.

What an incredibly tranquil place to visit! Loved everything! Perhaps make sure all aircons are in working condition... specially round December and waitresses may need some more training as service lacked a bit! Incredible host/ manager Alfred and Palesa the front house lady was fantastic! Thank you for always making us feel at home!

This is my personal experience and for each person it will be different. Your stay can also depend on the fellow guests as not all guests are there to rest and enjoyed the calmness of nature but nothing to complain about.  We stayed in room 33 that were spacious, comfortable with air-con, private courtyard and stoep. Again, my personal preference, the room need some upgrades, I am not a fan of carpets, the shower and bath were neat and clean but require updating. WiFi, Smart TV with basic channels or log in with your own DSTV. At the time of our visit the app did not work but we screen shared. There is a formal lounge and bar sitting area or outdoor spaces, tennis court, put-put, pool area that can be enjoyed if you do not want to be in your room. You can also walk in the various garden spaces with several water features that at the time of our visit were very dry and some water features dried up completely. With more watering it will be lush and tropical garden. The pool is cool, not heated. There is a restaurant, and breakfast was included. We had dinner and breakfast, and the food was delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Was received by very friendly and helpful staff. However, the room was very dark and small and the shower's head was broken, stuggled to get your body wet. Will not be staying there again.

I HAVE QUESTIONS I WANT TO BOOK MY STAY THERE: HAS THE BATHROOM REVAMP AND ARE SHOWERS WORKING NOW REFERRING FROM THE REVIEWS? DOES THE FACILITY HAVE A HEATED POOL OR A BATH TAP OR JACUZZI FOR AFTERNOON SWIMMERS? IS MY OWN ALCOHOL ALLOWED? IS PARKING CLOSER TO ROOMS? DO YOU HAVE A WIFI AT THE ROOMS?

Beautiful luscious green trees and plants everywhere. It's so refreshing. Friendly staff and very helpful. They just need to renovate their bathrooms.

Reception area good. Rondavels where we stayed are dilapidated. Bathrooms run down. Carpets disgusting. Bedding clean. Aircon working. Breakfast very good. This must have been a stunning venue back in the day, but now it is neglected and mostly run down.

Apart from the strange smell in the bedroom and leak in the bathroom. It was a fantastic get-away. The food was delicious, the menu is a bit limited, but it tasted great! The scenery is too cool and every room/ outside area you walk into - it is a site to see ! There is putt putt, outdoor chess, pool, dinner room, breakfast room, bar area. The outside area has a chapel, garden area, sitting area, conference room and so much more ! The spa is awesome ! The back, neck and head massage was to die for ! The theme is antique and very different to anywhere I’ve ever been. Very cool place!

Beautiful location. Picturesque. Hotel could use a bit of TLC. The stairs from the parking to reception is uneven and could be dangerous, especially in the dark. Service is not really the best. There are no warning signs or advice given on the monkeys on the property. A lot of work is needed to get the menu and food better. No soap in some of the bathrooms, especially those near the conference rooms. But with a little attention, this could be a great place.

A perfect wedding venue. The whole place is loaded with character and charm. Amazing gardens. Excellent food. Comfortable bedrooms. Our family had a really fun time. All the staff were accommodating and friendly. Highly recommended.

It's a beautiful space but needs an upgrade and some taking care of.. the service for dinner was on the poor side but the food was great. It would help to add a bar fridge in the rooms or a microwave.

We really enjoyed our stay. The Hotel surrounds is absolutely beautiful. The dinner we ordered could have been better, but the breakfast buffet is enough to ruin anyone's diet. We spent Saturday night next to the pool relaxing in the chaise-longues and the atmosphere is relaxing and soul rejuvenating. I do however feel perhaps the rooms need a make-over, it's a bit outdated and starting to look dilapidated, but the friendliness of the staff and the beautiful surrounds made up for that.

Real garden of Eden. Very peaceful. Staff at reception are very friendly and welcoming 🤗❤️ The dining room area is very was designed to transport you back in time, very beautiful. However the food was not the best I have tasted and desert (malva pudding) was a complete desaster! The atmosphere and beautiful gardens made up for it. Would I ever go back? Yes I would. 😊

It is a beautiful property situated in a tranquil and peaceful location, but the establishment could do better in terms of maintenance and cleanliness of the rooms. Their breakfast offering was okay and another good thing was that there is a generator for when there is loadshedding. If you want a place away from the hustle and bustle of the city, then this is it.

We booked last minute on our return trip from Kruger Park back to Joburg.. The price quality was very good, I was surprised by the beautiful green garden and the tranquility that this exudes. The restaurant does not have a very extensive menu, but what is on it is delicious! The breakfast was very extensive and very good. Furthermore, very beautiful paintings and coastal works in the restaurant.

Truly a beautiful place (if you like nature vibes), food is good (I recommend their restaurant), there's animals around mainly monkeys which adds to the experience. I recommend the visit. Okay the cons.. there's a 2km dirt road leading up to the hotel, which is fine until it rains then it's a bit of a problem if you have a small car. The rooms could be cleaner but bedding/bed is great. PS, please bring comfortable shoes to walk around as there quite a bit to see (again if your like nature)
