A truly fitting monument dedicated to the very first winner of the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix. Far from being the best of his time, Grover Williams was an accomplished racing car driver. Back in 1929, the race on the streets of the principality was still a shadow of the Monte Carlo rally, but gradually gained prominence. The elegant silhouette of the pre-war Bugatti 'monoposto' looks amazingly dynamic and speedy, as if it's frozen in time. The monument is located on the sidewalk, close to an iconic turn of the contemporary Monte Carlo street track, making it hard to miss by pedestrians. It's best to visit the monument and pay hommage to Grover Williams when the security barriers and fences are not in place, i.e. on any other time of the year than the Monaco Grand Prix weekend.
