We stayed 1 night here. The park was beautiful in the daytime and the park rangers were polite and helpful. However, overnight we had been greeted by fellow campers who said there was a “rat problem”. This is DEFINITELY TRUE. We had rats attacking our tent all night. Not only did they torment us in the night, I discovered that they had chewed through my car seats to get to the food that we locked in the car. I would recommend a day trip, but not an overnight stay.

Not much to see here unless you want to kill some time or need access to a restroom. You do have to pay a small fee to get in. Everything was pretty dry on my visit. No wildlife other than some little crabs. There is a nature trail but nothing to see. There were some BBQ grills and some pavilions available. Overall I would not recommend coming here. Maybe on a cooler day it would have been a better experience.

My son and I decided to walk there after reading all the wonderful reviews. Well I feel mislead. You can’t get into the water because the sand is like quicksand and there are dead crabs everywhere. The smell is horrific that even if you wanted to use the grill you couldn’t even think about eating. After we got stuck in the sand we realized the water station is a long walk (see photo 5) in the entrance station. I only saw two vehicles and neither one of them stayed long. I did ask the park ranger while I was getting a drink of water what my entrance fee is used for and clearly while the very friendly lady spoke I realized it is to pay the employees to sit in an air conditioned building collecting money from people who will stay less than 30 mins. I feel disappointed that I can’t support this park which is in my neighborhood but folks don’t waste your money.

Great Florida State Park located in the Keys. Entry tickets cost $6 in 2024. Camping sites are available along the beach. Sitting at the beach and watching the Kite Surfers was enjoying.

Well, it's nothing special to me. You can't even get into the water if you don't wear the right footwear for it. There is only a small beach area, with few tables and little shade. The campsite is closed, (which is where the longest beach area is) the bathrooms on that side too. It's pretty and natural with a good reef, but not much else. The trails are in the mangrove, so put on repellent so mosquitoes don't ruin your hike.

Really nice nature trail, birds, plants and trees with incredible views of the Atlantic. Nice clean tent camping sites with 2 sets of batrooms. All in all just a very cool place to explore

Definitely the best park I visited on my trip. Birdwatching, botany, great trails, sea life, and sunny hammocks and chairs just waiting for you to curl up and soak up some rays. What an inspiring, one-of-a-kind place. And yeah, the good trail is named after a spider. It’s worth it, I promise.

It was a nice walk on the boardwalk and through the hammock on the nature trail. There are still tons of plastic trash near the water. But it is a fun little walk. I would bring some good walking shoes plus some flip-flops in a backpack in case part of the trail, floods, which it often does at high tide. Big parking lot, clean, restrooms, and their changing rooms if you want to go for a swim.

We were down in the Keys camping and saw an opening for Long Key State Park so we decided to book it. We knew already that hurricane Irma had destroyed the majority of the camping spots, and that we would have to park and hike back with our gear to our site. We didn't know until after reading some reviews that they have a rat population. The reviews were a little scary to be honest but we decided to go for it anyway and I'm glad we did. The campsite was clean and while it was quite a hike carrying all our junk from the car and up to the bath house, it was worth it. It was nice and quiet and really serene. Each campsite does have a picnic table and grill and there is a community fire ring on the far end of the campsites. Keep in mind though that there isn't much shade at the campsites. You are allowed to bring a hammock though which was fun. They also have a great walking trail and we saw a giant iguana just chilling in a tree so that was awesome. They also have a pretty nice beach area with lounge chairs and since it's a smaller park there was really no one there. The park rangers were amazing and very knowledgeable about the park and their plans for rebuilding the sites damaged in the hurricane, which you could see are under construction. Now I'd like to address the rats. While there was definitely a healthy rat population here, by no means did we experience anything remotely close to what some other campers indicated they did. We absolutely heard and saw the rats during the night, but they did not bother us at all. We did not leave any food at our campsite, nor did we keep anything in our tent that they would want to snack on so I'm sure that helped. The other two campers that were there also did not have any issues. I fully believe that if you safely store your food in the car, you will not have any problems. I'm really excited to see the new developments that are coming and look forward to going back again soon!

We camped overnight on January 15, 2023 during a cold front. I can’t speak to how the park is during other times of the year but I will just say this was one of the best campsites I have stayed at. Bring a wagon to make unloading your things easier because you cannot drive up to the site. Also note that there is one campfire shared between the campground. As far as rats mentioned in other reviews, we saw one little mouse all night. Maybe they are less active in winter but they could also be gone. The park has gotten hit by storms a lot and has changed recently so some reviews are out of date. The rangers were all super helpful. Only issue we had was the hot water in the showers was out. Also the campsite is along the trail so plenty of people walk by as soon as the park opens. Otherwise, enjoy the epic night sky, local restaurants you can visit while staying here, birdwatching, and plenty of sunshine and fun in the water.

Nice state park. We weren't able to check out the campground as that road access and area were closed due to storm damage. Would like to come back and check it out once they reopen. We came on a Monday late afternoon and found parking but there are not a lot of spots so on weekends parking might be difficult. Great views and several sitting areas that were very unique.

Had a great (first) visit to LongKey this morning. I found it to have its own unique feel...different than Curry and Bahia. As a bike guy, I found their nearly 2 mile trail (staring at the beach...not the trail head) to be a blast...three different surfaces from loose sand, compacted sand, to wooded trail...in less than a 2 mile ride...was great. Of interest...no stairs...only ramps. Seems parks dept was focused on accessibility for all. PLEASE NOTE - not sure if rules were observed, bent, or broken hitting the nature trail on a mountain bike - nothing posted. ALSO NOTE - assuming bikes are permitted...this is a "take it slow" trail...hikers abound.

Gorgeous park and excellent camping site. This is a TROPICAL location, it is HOT and HUMID in the some months, but that come with the location. I visited August 2022 and did not have issues with rats, which was surprising after some of the recent reviews. Tent-only camping is available and the spaces are a decent size. Well worth the trip. Ranges are nice and helpful, and the restrooms/showers are surprisingly clean and well maintained.

My wife and I enjoyed Ranger Bentley's presentation of the discovered and preserved sidetrack section of Flagler's railroad. He was very informative, factual, personable and has a great sense of humor! His obvious passion for history is very contagious! We love the park and can't wait for it's full restoration. ~David and Patricia Battle Creek, Mich.

There is nothing special about this park. Similar to all the state parks in county, there is an entrance fee based on the number of people in the vehicle. The park has a one mile trail, a small beach front and some camping areas with dedicated screened areas with tables. There is a nice walk-in kayak launch near the entrance. The campground area was closed due to construction. The few chairs and cabanas near the beach were nice and available on a first come first serve basis.

Beautiful park but sad campground was closed. They are renovating. This will be a great place to stop if I ever get my camper van.

Great park to stop for a visit in daylight. Beautiful trails to walk through. Hurricanes are crazy. The Mangrove Tree Crabs are cute. Though parts of the trail were a slightly flooded, the overlook area was sadly damaged by the last hurricane and still barred off.

What an awful trip. When I booked my campsite, I was told that I would be on site 2 and found pictures online of an ocean front campsite. When we arrive we’re told we’re in B, which is decidedly NOT ocean front, and was informed that site 2 no longer exists. The brush is so insanely overgrown you can’t even see the water, and behind you is nothing but overgrown swamp land. The whole park has an unmaintained feel to it, and I never did manage to find anywhere in the park that you could go swimming at all. Because everything is so overgrown and unmaintained, the bugs are absolutely nightmarish. Bug sprays of all kinds did absolutely nothing to help mitigate the bugs at all, and I spent the second night folded into a ball in my car because I was getting absolutely eaten alive inside my tent even. The weeds are invading the campsites on all ends and are being completely ignored. We had neighbors on either side of us the first night, both sets of whom also arrived the same night as us, and both of them were as shocked and angry by the sites they were put in as we were, and had also been told they were in a different site with pictures showing ocean front camping. The couple to our left lasted the night. They were gone by 9 am the next morning. The folks on our other side made it through the second night, but they are packing their things right now too. There’s a bad enough rat problem on the island that they tried to come into our tents in the middle of the night, even with no food in the tent. In addition to the overgrowth making the bugs impossible, it also made it so NO breeze whatsoever reached the campsites so the heat was largely unbearable even at night. It’s about a half mile hike in from the parking area to the campsites, but that much I did at least expect. All this is basically to say, stay away. It’s one of the cheaper places to camp in the keys for a reason.

Great place to camp , its quite and peaceful you can have a great weekend over this amazing place, the only thing was , first come first to be in a list to have a spot to camp cuz after huracán Irma in 2017 the place lost many site to camp so is very difficult to have a spot if you get late, but they trying to restore the place ,maybe in a couple month is going to be better ! They open at 8am !

Great place to come to get away from all the busy areas of the keys. This isn't a white sand beach type of park. Mainly nature and a really nice trail to walk.

Had to check out of the camp site early due to about 600 bug bites on our bodies from noseums and mosquitos. Itched for the next few days. Still bloody from scratching a week later. Also: a long walk to the camp sites since larger section of campground is still shut down (which we didn't realize until arrival since we had a reservation). The rangers were nice and apologized. Some motorcyclists camped next to us on a cross continent trip from Virginia to Key West to Alaska! They told us "Florida is terrible". I have to say it was a pretty miserable time to be here!

Wonderful, clean and great views. Went on a light hike with my son and were surprised by the great experience so near our hotel. Would love to return and maybe even camp there.

A lovely State Park with a trail along the Atlantic. Stop and get a selfie on the giant chair. Check out the piece of train track representative of the old railroad once across the keys.

Great place to stop along the drive through the keys and stretch your legs. Couple places are tidal so plan shoes accordingly or go barefoot like we did.
