This unique place is a must for somebody interested in Liberian history. Nicely presented and housed in a historic building.

The fee asked for the visit of the museum is up to you, there is no established amount and no entrance ticket. However, the manager of the museum chased me during the whole visit, insisting on giving him money, he didn' t leave me alone. I really got fed up with him, and left the museum earlier because his behaviour.

An interesting place. The building was the old house of representatives. It was a shame that it was looted during the war. Some of the artifacts are clearly not very old, but some items are old. It was very informative of the "waves of change" that swept through Liberia. Some of the pictures on the second floor of the wars were extremely sobering.

Has clean environment but not well equipped. There are more historic elements to show. The historic items should be given a face lift while preserving the originality.

The Liberian National Museum located within Monrovia. No pictures allowed inside. I don’t know why this rule but it’s not interesting… 5 dollars for the ticket and 5 dollars for the guide fees

Great history about the country and well kept artifacts. Admission was $5USD and there is a donation box available at the front door. Viewing was cut short by staff members. details: The museum is classified in three tiers, where on the ground floor there is a histographical gallery containing presidential papers, private documents and memoirs of past important executives of the Liberian government and photographs and cartographical resources related to its culture. On display is the nation's first flag dating back to August 1847. There are also other items ranging from postage stamps to an editorial page of Liberia's daily newspaper, the Liberia Herald. Other items include traditional Liberian household furniture plus utensils, also there is a craft shop run by the African Arts and Crafts Inc. The second floor is the Ethnographical Gallery and on the third floor the contemporary arts gallery which illustrates Liberian artistic works many of which are product of a contract between the museum and art institutions plus art colleges throughout the country where artists are commissioned to produce for the museum purposes. The museum facilities include a portable video system, editing and archival materials, cassette recordings and slides of visual and oral arts many of which offer an insight into Liberian cultures such as dance and the use of masks in the country.

The National Museum of Liberia suffered extensive looting and damage during the country’s civil war era, but it remains a showcase for the pride its people have in their rich cultural traditions and Liberia’s resiliency as Africa’s oldest independent republic. Some interesting things we saw include many 200-year old tribal masks from Liberia’s 16 indigenous groups; an armored Mercedes SUV used by Liberia’s most notorious warlord, Charles Taylor; a table from the estate of Liberia’s longest-serving president, William Tubman, and many other historical carvings, pieces of art and political mementos. Pretty cool!

Gives a good insight into the newer History of Liberia. Not too many objects of older date, but well presented . Paid 5 USD at the entrance to the guard without receipt. No idea whether this was the ticket or complementary for his work.

Museum was closed, but located with the museum is the Centennial Pavillion which has history inside of all President's of Liberia. When a new President is inaugurated this is where it takes place!
