I was pleasantly surprised to discover that what I initially thought was a government building turned out to be Montreal's historical public market – what a nice find! During the evening, the building looked stunning, beautifully lit up and immediately caught my attention with its vibrant colors and impressive cupola. However, in the daylight, it seemed rather unremarkable from the outside. Nevertheless, the street in front of the market was charming, adorned with lovely vegetation-filled pots and numerous benches for relaxation. Inside, the market is spread across two floors with an array of small shops and stores, mostly catering to tourists and visitors rather than locals. Some offered unique arts and crafts, while others seemed like typical tourist traps with questionable souvenirs. Nonetheless, I guess there was something interesting for everyone. Personally, I was lucky to find something I had been searching for – old Canadian banknotes! The store called MTL Decor, located on the ground floor, had a vast collection of banknotes from all over the world, including the withdrawn Canadian notes with Queen Elizabeth II's portrait, which I was specifically looking for. They also had rare and collectible pieces, valued at several thousand dollars. Like I said, this market truly has something for everyone's taste! Visited on a Sunday, July 2023. Paid by card.

As a first time visitor i liked it. Most of the shops were closed or had very little stuff of relevance. One shop i liked the most where from i bough warm clothes. It was expensive but material appears to be good. There are restrooms in the middle. Probably due to weather and covid it wasn’t that occupied.

A beautiful place to stop by, it's clean and spacious. A perfect place to just sit down and relax before continuing to explore the Old port. You can find unique gifts made in Canada, some of them are quite expensive though. There's a good coffee shop on the ground floor and a nice bakery on the lower floor.

I was entirely disappointed by this market. I had envisioned a bustling market of interesting local wares and foods but after walking through, I understand why it was so empty...the stores all seemed very touristy (very generic Canadian and tourist wares) and many things being sold seemed overpriced. Furthermore, the sign that said 'restuarants' was a total let down as it led to a single, small cafe. I recommend skipping this if you're in Montreal!

Nice and clean place to purchase souvenirs. I think they are little bit over priced compared to souvenir shops right outside the building. Quality is similar. People are friendly and most of them understand English. Top floors and lower floors were closed.

Lovely looking building. One needs to go inside as in the main central area of the entrance, there are a number of information boards that have the history of the building. Adds to the story.

I visited the market on a rainy day in the morning. It was amazing and very quiet and nice experience overall. If you are looking to buy a souvenir or just have a coffee this is the right place for you. I don’t live in Montreal and this wasn’t on my visit list but I liked it.

Definitely a place to visit in Montreal. If you’re looking for something special and memorable to bring with you from Montreal check a store called Mtl decor. There is amazing wall art handmade by a local designer. And also you gonna be nicely surprised the variety of collection money you can buy there. Definitely worth visiting!!!!

This is a beautiful market which had a ton of stores which offer different variety of gifts, decor, everyday use items, jewelry and much more. One thing i love the most about this place is the beauty of each store. My favourite store was the one that had so many indigenous statues. Tgere are many beautiful jewelry stores too which are quite expensive. The washrooms here are very clean as well.

Went to marché Bonsecours for a kampai Montreal saké tasting event. It was amazing. You got to taste all kind of saké. There were so many variety of saké (normal to fruity). One my favorite was the yuzu and Japanese plum. The event was good but it could be more elaborated. Highly recommended for people who love saké and have a restaurant business.

It was okay, expected a lot more but it was just touristy things and trinkets. We had to fold our stroller to go up through the back of the building, main entrance is around the corner and much more manageable

It is a gorgeous building in a beautiful neighborhood I agree with the other reviewers. There is not a lot to do and not many options for food. If you have 10-30min to spare, it is a nice place to pick up souvenirs. They have a variety of jewellers, snacks, clothing , and more of the typical Canadian souvenirs. There is a brewery and a cafe as well.

Small market in old Montreal, the cafe is good. Loved their latte and ice creams. Good place to buy some souvenirs.

There was a conference going on and they didn’t let us in. As if we were going to barge into an unknown conference! People are so unfriendly to tourists. Don’t they know Canada has very little to offer Americans and tourism in the one area where they can make some money. The politics is killing this country. Very sad.

Not really a ‘market’. This is a building with one row of small shopping stalls. No boutiques upstairs or in the lower level. Mostly tourist souvenirs. Some jewelry and cafe. Very underwhelming.

Our group enjoy walking on the street market and shopping around seeing arts exhibition and historical architecture and monument. Lots of souvenirs stores and restaurants. We went to the area so many times during our visited, day and night gives different vibe and feeling. Other than going to another tourist area, this market is one of our favorite.

Cool municipal building turned into small shops and a cafe. Public bathrooms here so that is a big win for being in such a great walking part of town.

Perfect for travelers looking for souvenirs or unique items. The Maple Latte at the Cafe de Arte was great. A lot of stores were sadly closed.

There is nothing interesting here as most boutiques are closed. We tried to go upstairs via the elevator and got stuck in the middle of nowhere; the elevator then broke. We tried to call the main number, no answer. Then we looked up the numbers of the chief executive, the lease officer, as well as the technologies and operations manager. No one responded despite it being during opening hours. We had to call the police to get help. Avoid

A nice tourist attraction, however not much to do and the single place to eat doesn't have much. Still worth a visit if you are in the area. The building itself looks amazing

Bonsecours Market felt more like an expo than a traditional market. The setup and atmosphere were reminiscent of an exhibition, which was somewhat unexpected. However, amidst the expo-like vibe, I stumbled upon some charming stores offering souvenirs crafted by indigenous people. These shops added a delightful touch of authenticity and uniqueness to the experience. If you're interested in supporting indigenous artisans and bringing home meaningful souvenirs, these stores are definitely worth exploring.

Great place, lovely ambiance, live jazz, beautiful. Waiter droped a portion of one of the dishes and wasn't willing to take it back to the kitchen and bring a complete portion. It would be a 5 stars place if the staff and the food matched everything else.

The building is beautiful but I am not sure it’s being used properly, there are only few souvenirs shops and that’s it.

This is an awesome place. It never gets old after visiting it so many times. Nice place for buying souvenirs especially those fridge magnets. The walking tour of old port is the best and most loved of all.

Bonsecours Market is a distinctive building in Old Montreal, one of the most attractive neighborhoods in North America. Elements of neo-classical architecture give a stately appearance to a building that was converted a few decades ago into a shopping arcade that caters to tourists. In view of repetitive lockdowns, most of the stores within the arcade are temporarily closed. You can still walk in for a look, but you will find little to entertain you.

If you have time to spend definitely see the building however keep in mind that there aren't that many stores available.

  • 4/5 Samuel L. 3 years ago on Google
The market has a lovely range of shops, mostly "unchained" so most things on offer are highly unique and special. Slightly off-centre so the place is never too busy. Normally only the true locals are there but you don't need to worry about getting in the way of someone's selfie. Shopping is not my department but the the handsome building with the lonh elegant corridors on both wings gave me plenty photography spots, in and outside the market.

We had an amazing experience visiting bonsecours market. They have numerous designers boutiques with decent collection. Also, we loved the antiques shops. It is a must visit for those who collect bills/coins and antiques.

  • 3/5 Minae N. 2 years ago on Google
It was a little underwhelming given its reputation. It could just be the time of year, but there just wasn't that much to see. I liked the little shops inside but it was quite small from one end to another and there was only one cafe at one end. So if you are planning to visit then you can expect to spend 30mins or less (likely less).

This market has many shops. All of them consisting of tourist gifts such as pens, key holders, t-shirts post cards, fluffy teddy bears among multiple unnecessary things. You will find as well, stores with some interesting Canadian things, such as the Inuit artwork (Ivory from ancient mamut , furs, fossils and other exotic things). You will also find stores with the common Canadian maple syrup, as well as ice wine (definitely try it, my personal best)

It looks like a glory building however interior decoration of the building overall is not inspiring as it is outside view. There are some small corners have better look just like that coffee shop in my second photography.

Nice place to hang around rue saint paul. Situated on promising location and gives you some time for shopping. Frankly speaking its way overpriced amd not much variety available. I loved the old collection of pictures of this market.

  • 4/5 Mattia P. 1 year ago on Google
Beautiful building with lots of local shops, even souvenirs, but I visited around 11 AM and most of them were still closed, maybe it's for the winter season

  • 4/5 Alex 1 year ago on Google
Very near building I will say firstly, if just for the outer architecture it's a pretty cool spot to visit. Open to the public almost all day long everyday with shops inside for all sorts of things. Kinda touristy shops inside but it's also a big city, comes with the name. If you are walking around Old Montreal, I'd definitely recommend at least to warm up.

No stores of interest to me, most seemed to be selling the same things. Beautiful outside, worth the visit for the photo of that.
