This is one of the most underrated and forgotten churches in the center of Montreal. Since it is situated somewhere between two areas that are usually frequented by tourists, the church does not get many walk-ins. The church has an impressive altar with an unusual color scheme for Montreal. While many Montreal churches tend to use cold and blue tones, the warm-toned/earth-toned interior of Saint Patrick's Basilica is a rarity that is worth the detour.

It is one of the Oldest Basilica in Montreal since 1847; and I work there especially so I have explored each corner with specific knowledge. The speciality is on top of the Altar, there are two Colour glasses which gives the exotic rainbow effect in the noon when the sun is bright. Church has 117 picture of Saints all over the walls including two big image of Saint Patricks in the corner. Currently, the paster is Monsignor Coyle who is very respected and honourable priest in the Basilica. Because of covid, Basilica opens at 11:30am for 12:10pm weekly Masses and on weekend there are different time schedules(Saturday-5pm, Sunday-9am,11am,1pm,5pm). You are most welcome to come for the Mass with prior reservation. 250 People allowed !!! Great news

March 07, 2023 ✝️ Saint Patrick's Basilica was built in 1847. Located in the heart of downtown Montreal. The interiors were absolutely stunning. The ambiance exudes a sense of tranquility, providing a truly calming experience. I highly recommend a visit to this Basilica. Whether you are looking for spiritual renewal, cultural enrichment, or simply a peaceful sanctuary, this Basilica is sure to leave a lasting impression. It is absolutely breathtaking. So much detail in the architectural part of it. I honestly loved just sitting there and appreciating everything. There are also candles to light at different sections of the church. I personally love the purple candles. Entry is free and they are so welcoming. It’s usually quiet and serene. BASILICA Saint Patrick’s Parish is a welcoming and reconciling community. Beginning with our deep roots in the Irish diaspora we have developed into a diverse and dynamic group from many backgrounds joining together as parishioners of the Mother Church of Montreal’s English Speaking Catholics. Msgr. Francis J. Coyle, pastor, and Fr. Robert Pierre-Louis, Assistant Priest, lead and guide our downtown congregation. Saint Patrick’s Church opened its doors on March 17th, 1847 to serve the needs of the growing Irish community in Montreal and just in time for the wave of Irish immigrants escaping famine and other troubles in Ireland.

We went to visit this place instead of Notre Dame. It’s beautiful.

Great, old church to escape into when in downtown Montreal. Free entry and it’s usually quiet and serene. I love to come here to meditate, enjoy the architecture, or even just to warm up indoors and read.

Absolutely stunning building. We visited on a weekday morning and there was not another soul to be seen. The acoustics were incredible; every step, every cough, every little sound was magnified five times over. A must see for anyone, regardless of belief system.

An absolutely beautiful place to stop in visit while visiting Montreal! I visited during the weekday and almost had the whole place to myself. Beautiful artwork all over, just amazing to sit and admire the beauty of it all. Definitely swing by and see it in person.

They have a very good reverent Mass. All the COVID stuff is done now so you can sit where you want and go up to get the Eucharist and you are invited to sing along. It's honestly one of the nicest church in Montreal. I love going to Mass there. Great people there too !

BEAUTIFUL! The exterior might not look especial, but once you go inside it's really beautiful, the walls, the ceiling, the chandeliers, the columns, everything it's exquisite! And as it's not commercialized it's really quiet and peaceful, so you can enjoy your time as a tourist taking photos and admiring the church, or as a church goer.

This Basilica is a sleeper as by the looks of the outside would make one think that there isn't really much going on inside. Boy was I surprised! Don't judge a book by it's cover. The inside is gorgeous!! Spacious, amazing Roman Catholic art, colored glass pane windows, and so quiet you can hear a pin drop.

Beautiful church built in 1847. There was no entry charge but they accept donations through various forms of payment.

Such a beautiful place! Also, added bonus me for - not a French speaker - the explanation of all the art on the walls was in English.

Saint Patrick’s Basillica is a beautiful church. Here is why… 1) It is English. 2) It has beautiful paintings and some of the nicest designs 3) The building and facade is important and I hope they keep it that way for generations to come. They need more Church candles and they need to make it environmentally friendly in the future. All in all it is a nice church.

One of the most beautiful church in Montreal. Very quiet and peaceful. It has a rich neo-gothic architecture with stained glass windows. I always visit this church and never get tired of taking pictures. A must see to people who are visiting Montreal.

In the centre of Montreal, there lies a stunning and ancient church called St. Patrick's Basilica. Everyone interested in religious art and history should go there because of the beautiful building and interior design. The basilica's calm, quiet environment makes it a wonderful spot for meditation and prayer. Overall, I heartily suggest viewing this magnificent landmark.

Beautiful church right in downtown that was much less busy than all the other cathedrals we visited.

Stopped by on our way, Saint Patrick's Basilica is a fantastic spot to admire Montreal's stunning architecture. The interior is well-maintained, and during our afternoon visit, it was wonderfully serene and practically empty.

Beautiful place. Would recommend taking a look. Sat through a Sunday morning mass and enjoyed it despite never going to a mass before.

A must see when you visit Montreal, located between Saint Catherine Street and Vieux Port, Free Entry, from outside it looks basic but when you enter the church it’s magical, like a glimpse from the past, Beautiful architecture. An amazing park is being built next to it, i’d give more than 5 stars.

Attended 11 o'clock Sunday Mass here in English and heard a good sermon about striking the balance in life between being and acting. Beautiful architecture, impressive layout, and fair sized congregation. Much high rise building going on around it.

We were fortunate enough to catch the tail end of a service so had the opportunity to explore the church afterward. It is such a beautiful and serene place. Definitely a must see in Montreal.

Even though the gentleman was closing the doors to the church, he gave us a chance to go in and make a donation and experience the atmosphere. Ofcource, he honored us because we came from all the way from Toronto.

Beautiful church steeped in history with some outstanding architecture and statuary. Mass was enjoyable and the attendant priest was very friendly and welcoming. Absolutely breathtaking building though - couldn't take my eyes off the altar!

An oasis in the middle of the city. It is beautiful, Mass is in English, and everyone is friendly. Beautiful decor and lots of history.

Beautiful place . Nice to be able to attend Mass in English, very few in Quebec are English so I travel an hour to Montreal and attend here. The pipe organ is warm and fills the building while every corner of the interior surfaces has detail to capture your eye and imagination
