Playa
Montañita
is
deserving
of
its
reputation
as
a
haven
for
surfers,
backpackers,
partygoers
and
bohemian
hipster
types.
One
minute
spent
anywhere
in
the
bar
and
Lou
get
strewn
main
part
of
town
is
enough
to
give
a
person
seeking
quiet
and
solitude
a
fright
that
won’t
soon
be
forgotten.
If
alcohol
lubricates
the
action
in
town,
open
use
of
drugs
(clearly
in
evidence
several
times
during
the
course
of
my
visit)
“enlightens”
the
action.
However,
if
one
stays
at
the
extreme
north
end
of
town,
near
the
towering
cliff
that
buttresses
the
rocky
shoreline
and
breakwater,
there
is
a
much
quieter
atmosphere
and
a
certain
peace
to
be
had
simply
from
watching
the
exceptional
athleticism
and
grace
of
many
of
the
surfers
🏄🏼♂️
as
they
practice
their
craft,
sometimes
seeming
to
balance
impossibly
atop
the
wildness
of
the
waves.
There
is
SOME
good
food
to
be
had
and
there
are
several
nice
lodges
and
hostels
in
town
but
it’s
certainly
worth
doing
some
careful
research
if
you’re
hoping
to
enjoy
a
quiet
stay
on
the
beach...and
probably
worth
looking
into
the
much
quieter
town
of
Olon,
just
a
couple
of
mikes
up
the
road,
as
well.
