Been here a few times. The service here is slow when it gets busy. Parking is pretty easy in the underground parking garage. We ordered Beef Chow Fun, chicken fried steak and smelt roe fried rice. Our favorite dish is the smelt roe fried rice. The beef Chow Fun is just alright not much wok hei flavor. The chicken fried steak is big and juicy. We have been here many times for breakfast and lunch.

JJ Cafe is still great as ever! Most places have reduce their quality, portion, and/or service. Not this place. Steak was as I remembered and the quality was really good, medium. The baked seafood was more seafood than rice which is rare and the sauce was really tasty. The service was very attentive without being intrusive. I am glad one of my favorites is still great despite the pandemic.

Tasty food and good quick service. We had the Indo Fried Rice, Baked Pork Chop Rice and Iced Lemon Tea. Portions are pretty large. The crispy chili oil condiment is flavorful and not spicy. Everything was delicious!

Grew up eating here with friends. The most famous Hong Kong cafe joint in the 626 area for lunch to late night eats...with everyone avoiding the window seats at night. They now have covid outdoor tent seating. Can't go wrong with your orders here. Typical, decent with 1 refill of drinks now vs unlimited.

Food is good as always. I’m sad their hours are not as long, but they’re still open for a good length of time. Breakfast/brunch combo - chose the minced beef jook and chow mein; and on another day had jook with chow fun; drink with a refill is also included. Mmm lemon iced tea!

Service is friendly.Good location. Regrettably, the Chinese dishes are the worst that I've ever tasted. We ordered 羊腩煲and沙茶牛肉. It seems that they are done by an amateur cook. Just simply messy and unacceptable. I really hope the operator/owner would conduct an internal review and taste the Chinese dishes themselves.

They have a lot of options aside from the Chinese Food. They have some breakfast menu, and a la carte. It was good. Not too bad for a Chinese place.

I came back to this restaurant after 22 years ago. It's a place when no one open, this still open. We had late dinner around 10:30pm. The taste still remain the same, still good, my favorite was pork chop & chicken steak with rice. For me, The size was big also. So i share this with my wife.

Ordered Singapore Style Fried Rice Noodle, Indo Fried Rice, Sliced Pork Neck with Vegetables, and Beef with Black Bean Sauce. The latter two dishes already include a plate of white rice each which we should have known and not ordered so much rice. The Singapore Style Fried Rice Noodle was alright though we wanted a little more salt to it. The Indo Fried Rice on the other hand was a bit too salty for our palette. No complaints to the last two dishes. The Sliced Pork Neck was very soft and well seasoned. It was very juicy and paired well with water spinach (we substituted this in for the standard vegetable). The Beef with Black Bean sauce was also a great choice too with a good sauce and onion and green pepper medley. Adding the white rice was very good. Location does get medium foot traffic especially on a weekend evening. Service was fast and good. Parking in the back can be tight so be patient.

Service not very good. Given it's late around 11pm. I also never been to a Chinese restaurant which charges for tea besides dim sum restaurant. So order at your own risk. Cart noodle - Pretty lame. Thought the curry squid made in curry sauce instead of cooked it and pour curry sauce over it. Indo fried rice - Is really just Maggie sauce fried rice with 2 tasteless shrimps and some bits of beef that's very tough. Not edible. It was really disappointing. They have xo sauce fried rice, I supposed it's gotta be better. Overall experience here was pretty bad. The restaurant is old and run down. They served the wrong cart noodle, gave us the wrong ingredients. And they asked us, if that's ok. He was trying to avoid changing it. Not sure if it's laziness or being cheap. We aren't offended but we felt that's not really the way to serve your patrons.

Food: Hit & miss. Depends on whose cooking, what the chef's shift is, their mood, etc... Feb2022, their 豉汁排骨炒河粉 (spare ribs + rice noodles) were ok. Also had their 豬頸配飯 (Pork neck over rice). Not bad. Much better than the bland 雲吞麵 (Wonton noodles) in 2017. First batch of 鴛鴦奶茶 (coffee+milk tea) toasted like they put in some red lemon tea, instead of Assam red tea. Sort of weird, but I drank it nonetheless. Second batch was normal. Service: These people will leave you alone to have a peaceful meal. So you gotta' do your part to flag them down. Much more traditional type of service. If you're a regular, they'll treat you like a VIP though. **None of these should be construed as complaints. Just how things are.** Price: Despite inflation, everything is VERY reasonable.

The place itself hasn't changed, and the food is still good. However their prices have gone up.

Food: Ordered their club sandwich, braised chicken steak over rice and their cream of corn soup with ham(originally chicken but subbed with ham). In my opinion it’s cheaper than other places but the food isn’t so bad for the price. Their soup was good and their club sandwich was okay. I noticed that it didn’t have an egg, white cheese, and chicken steak like how other places did it. Their chicken steak over rice was very saucy and a bit sweet but not bad. Service: They speak English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. They were all so nice! Parking can be found underneath the plaza and you have to enter from the back.

There was plenty of open tables. I didn't like how it smelled inside the restaurant. It reminded me of a casino. The service was very friendly. The food came out quickly, but i didn't think the taste was anything amazing. I ordered the chicken with black mushrooms on rice and my wife ordered the chicken porridge. The mushrooms were a bit tough and the dish was 90% rice covered with some generic tasting sauce. The porridge tasted okay though a little watery.

Excellent authentic Hong Kong food. Lots of repeat customers as you can tell by how the staff interact with them.

JJ Cafe is my go-to breakfast place! It’s conveniently located across from my daughter’s school so I enjoy coming frequenting here as it’s quick and easy especially on the weekdays. We will be back every now and then!

Hole in the wall spot, but also a Monterey Park staple.I like that they stay open late and have a lot of variety on their menu. Compared to other HK cafes, their portions seemed on the smaller side. But, the lunch special complimentary drinks were huge. Speaking of lunch specials, when it comes to HK cafes, ask for a lunch special menu to get the best value. I particularly enjoyed their Cha chai noodle (triple combination: beef tripe, daikon, curry squid/fish ball), which can commonly be found at street vendor stalls throughout HK. The flavor was very similar and reminded me of the same flavors I had in HK. Service was a bit slow during peak hours but all the staff seemed nice.

After a late shift from work, my co-worker and I went here to get a late dinner. Great place to dine after a long day at work or just to hang out and catch up with friends.

First I'd like to say that they have a DELICIOUS cappuccino! Food is definitely shareable almost family style. Food is very good but lacks some flavor. Atmosphere is very laid back, family, friend, social vibe. Staff is friendly! Service is a but slow but given how busy it is, it is quite understandable. Over all I'd definitely come again! And try something different given they have SO MANY menu options to chose from!

We ordered the meat combo with the garlic sauce. It was late and we were starving. We were hoping the food was good coz it smelled delicious but when we took our first bite, it was disappointing. The flavor wasn't there and the meat was tough. The eggs were overcooked and the chicken was still pink in the middle.

The food was good but the preparation was bad. They did not take out the bone off my chicken , even some pieces were breaking off. That's a choking Hazard. The chicken also had the skin on it. The drink left a sour after taste as well. I will probably not return there again. Please do better next time.

As someone who grew up in the 626, I enjoy going to Monterey Park to find all my favorite comfort foods. Rather than going to my usual go-tos, I decided to hit up a Hong Kong style cafe that my friend recommended to grab a quick bite to eat before studying at a nearby shop. And boy did JJ HK Cafe hit all the right spots!

I like food but service just below average. Only reason may busy at night and who work at cashier always show not welcome😅😅 If you don't expect service. Five star for food quality and server except cashier guy🤣 I'm sorry

Its your typical HK Style cafe. plates is usually plentiful, West meets East under one roof, lots of choices to choose from. Steak here is priced thrift which comes in a large cut.

This review is for the service only. I am not Asian, however, my husband is. I went in early to get a table and order for us as we always know what we're having when we come here. I know that all of the servers can speak English, we've come here for years. I was completely ignored, sans my husband, and when I asked a server who was cleaning a table next to me if I could order as I knew what we wanted, she said "No, can you see I'm busy?" I didn't respond and just kept quiet. I know how things should be done- never prioritize cleaning a table when there is no one waiting and you see a customer is ready to order. When my husband walked in a server came over immediately to take our order, in fluent English. The message this is sending is if you don't look like us, we're not going to help you. Not nice.
