Reserved the premium oceanfront room at this hotel for three nights. Checked in and the lobby was nice, just like the photos on their website. That’s where the truth in advertising ends. There were only two elevators and only one worked. No problem. Get to our room that was advertised as having panoramic views and it’s completely false advertising. Our room had one window. If this room was premium I’d hate to see the other rooms. The door latch looked like it had previously been kicked in and sloppily replaced. The straw was when I pulled back the bedspread to Lysol the bed and there was a spot on the sheets that looked like blood. Blood. We left and checked into the Hyatt for a total of about $50 more. Read the reviews carefully. The location of being right next to the ocean might be nice, but not worth it.

I’m someone who NEVER writes reviews unless they are positive, but this one really got me. Listen to all the bad ones below and save your money. Yes it’s on the beach but it’s still not worth the cost. I’m someone who loves a fancy hotel and can still appreciate a motel 6, but I feel robbed and duped. This place is dirty, still smells of smoke, couldn’t even be bothered to replace the shower curtains (this was obviously a different, older hotel previously) or clean the bathroom vents. The beds are uncomfortable, the door had been sloppily fixed and painted so I had to literally SLAM it to close properly. I called the front desk to find out where I could locate the room service menu and was told I had to come down to the bar to retrieve it. So I called room service and he told me how to find it online. Ordered room service but they couldn’t fill our cocktail order (“we only have very basic beverages here”, so had to go to the bar which was a pretty far jaunt). For the price I paid to stay at a “resort”, I expected a little more. The food was good, nothing disappointing about it but obviously way overpriced. All in all, my husband summed it up best, “a polished turd”. I wish we had just stayed at The Holiday Inn (where we usually stay when we travel), but this place seemed like a nice splurge as we were passing through town (we were only here one night). IT WAS NOT. So mad I wasted my money here.

Being right on the water is the only thing saving this hotel, and even then it’s not great. If you have an ocean view or ocean front room, you have to have the privacy screen down, so you can’t see the ocean, or people will see into your room. The room itself is disgusting. We came here for a short honeymoon, and were disappointed. The carpet turns your socks black immediately, there was urine in the toilet when we got into our room, the furniture is chipped or broken, and they just “fix it up”. They advertise “plush mattresses”, our mattress was HARD and very uncomfortable. We paid for an ocean front king room. We got a queen size bed. The staff at the front desk when we checked in was RUDE. I understand customer service is hard, but don’t be on your phone while you’re trying to check in guests. I’d rather be somewhere else too after this. The TV in the room is outdated, the bathroom is tiny, there are cracks in the shower, the sink is gross, the closet is barley a closet, and the room smells musty and of cigarettes despite being a non smoking room. We were excited to have an ocean front room and enjoy this beautiful hotel, for our short honeymoon, and left completely disappointed and disgusted. What a shame.

This place has amazing views of the water. My room was on the ocean side so there was a lot of sand but I didn’t mind because I was going to go fishing. The room wasn’t nothing to brag about. Carpet needed to be replaced and there was some creepy photos on the wall. I would say my room needed to be renovated but the beach view compensated. Room service came 3 times before we checked out. They kept asking when we were leaving even though we still had about 30-45min left. We decided to just leave and not wait the extra time. If I decide to go fishing again this is a ok place. But I would search elsewhere first.

Poo Sandwich. Check-in was easy. Location is as described, right by the beach; bone fires allowed. Parking is hotel guest only, but not free. If you're a Military vet you know musty barrack smell with the dirty wwii feel and layers of paint. Don't walk bare foot carpet is deplorable. Maintenance issues, 2 small elevators only 1 works and it looks like it's on its last leg. Furthermore in the room running toilet water. Manager did reimburse parking fees for the room maintenance issue. Got small cards from front desk for a free beverage. The view of the beach is beautiful. In the end, the trip for the price was just okay. I don't believe I will be returning nor recommending.

Great View/Poor Maintenance/Dirty I wish I could add pictures. The location of this hotel is amazing as well as the customer service and staff. The staff are well trained and are very courteous and kind. They have a heated pool and a corn hole section that is fun. They also have viewing areas where you can sit and drink coffee and chat or relax. The location is perfect and has amazing views. You can walk down to the beach straight from your room and even have a campfire on the beach. However, the hotel charges $35 for a small fire bundle and you can buy the same thing at Home Depot for $7. They also charge $5 for a plain cup of coffee. But, that is not the reason why I am giving them 2 stars. In our room we had black mold in the bathroom wall. They have partial glass that covers the shower and the water shoots right out of the shower and runs down the wall onto the floor. Soaking (and I do mean soaking) the wall and floor. The wall is bowed out at the bottom from moisture swelling and it is obvious this is an ongoing issue. If I can see it (and I took pictures) they can see it. It bothers me that they would knowingly rent a room with black mold in the wall. It is so damaging to a person's health. They did move us to an upgraded room when I complained but what about the next person? The next room had the same issue as the last one in the bathroom. How can a higher class hotel have mold issues that are not addressed properly? There is also an elevator that doesn't work and floor torn out in front of said elevator where they have cardboard down. The room floors need a good cleaning and my feet turned black after walking on it with no shoes. For the price, I expect a clean and healthy place to stay.

The hotel wasn’t great, although it could be. Seemed not well kept, bathtub was clogged during our stay, water wouldn’t pass. One elevator out of service for the 3 days we were there. The room itself was clean but pretty old and small. The redeeming part of the hotel is the lobby with a very nice ocean view. The pool was nice too. The bar closes too early, and the drinks served were not well made at all (prices remained premium). The restaurant upstairs was great for breakfast, but the servers were too slow and often completely ignoring us, while still putting a 19% service charge, which in my opinion should be deserved not mandated.

Absolutely horrible experience here. Our "ocean view" room had a buffet in front of it the entire weekend, which resulted in groups of people congregating in front of our door. To have any amount of privacy, blinds had to be closed eliminating any "ocean view" we could have enjoyed. The music was so loud we couldn't speak to each other in our own room. Paint was peeling. Stains on the carpet. Door wouldn't shut. Homeless people on the deck. Graffiti everywhere. When we asked for a different room we were given no solutions. We paid far too much for this type of accommodation. You can get rooms at the same price at much nicer hotels.

We stayed here for a quick trip to both Monterey and Carmel. Needless to say, pictures are cery different online vs. the actual location. The room we had, 2 double beds looked like a shack. The paint was chipping and walls look unfinished. Can hear the water running from adjacent rooms. No extra pillows and phone was offline. Finally, the thermostat inexplicably did not stay on the heat setting,m - we had our 2 month old child and it was a freezing room. we recognize the hotel was going through a renovation but this still looked bad. We requested a refund for a horrible nights stay and all they did was comp $28.00 a day parking - big deal. Worthless hotel on prime real estate. Avoid at all costs.

The views are outstanding here. The grounds are spotless. The rooms are outdated and old looking. The hotel rooms was very small, we had a queen room with two queen beds and was very small. The bathroom is so small you have to stand in the shower to close the door. The painting on the walls needs to be redone, different color paints on the same wall, other areas the old color is showing thru. The shower had missing tiles and the grout is missing in spots leaving a big hole. The beds were great very nice and comfortable. Way over priced for what you get. Also should let people know there is a $300.00 fee they hold at check in that you will get back in 5 to 7 days. All in all great location with great views, to bad the hotel is not the same. Had a great time but was discouraged by the rooms.

I gave it two stars only because of the location. Other than that, read the bad reviews because they are spot on! When you walk in you think oh wow! this place is stunning, the ambiance, the view, the outdoor patio, the bar, yes! looks just like the photos.. but the rooms!! omg! I could not even walk barefoot because the carpet was so gross. The windows, doors, walls, all dirty.. The bathrooms were eh. There should have been more to offer with the price you pay to stay here. No bell service or help, the elevators were nasty, doors to go in and out of the hotel from the outdoor decks need to be replaced, graffiti on the walls of the concrete barrier, what else. All I have to say is spend the extra dollar and stay at the Sanctuary in Marina. They will treat you like royalty and the rooms are tidy!

If I could rate this place below one star I would! This is probably the worst hotel that I've stayed at. The quality of the room was really bad. The towels were overused and bad quality. The room felt like a motel but worse. The hotel is way different than what they show on their website, it's absolutely false advertisement. Everything is old and smelled moldy. The shades didn't give us privacy, the hotel staff was unprofessional and careless about our concerns. We overpaid for this garbage place! The coffee machine didn't work and they were placed next to the bathroom which was really weird. No microwave in the room as described upon booking, (not even in the lobby) the lighting of the room was awful! Very deceiving from the lobby area. Carpets were filthy, my white socks were black after walking on it, needs a thorough cleaning. The bed was super uncomfortable, the pillows smelled musty. Not to mention that we got charged for parking without our knowledge. Paying resort fee for this dump is very upsetting. Please don't stay here unless you want to be disappointed by everything!

Common areas are gorgeous. Staff is very nice. Rooms are pretty run down. Beware, "ocean view" means ground level (you can barely see the ocean). And you should call to make sure half your view is not obstructed by stairs.

great location' to shopping and gus. This place IS RIGHT off THE Freeway (HWY 1)literally less than a 100 ft .several beach front rooms actually a majority of them face the ocean. They have a nice heated pool and also a hot tub . One of my favorite things about this hotel is you can still have a bonfire on the beach , something you don't really find anymore

Don't let the bad reviews scare you away from this place. It's not that bad. We just got back from spending a long weekend there and we really enjoyed the hotel. This hotel is in need of some renovations which they have started at one end of the building. The salt water has taken its toll on the exterior. We paid for an upgraded room (which I heard the rooms on the 3rd and 4th floor are a little bit nicer. Our room was clean and everything worked. The customer service was very good. The restaurant was very good but not a lot of seafood on the menu. I had the salmon and it was amazing. The best thing about this place is the view and beach front property. We would definitely return.

This hotel is a real find: updated rooms, stunning ocean views, and fantastic beach access. The renovated sitting area by the bar is a perfect spot to watch the waves crash while relaxing, and if lucky see a pod of whales! A hidden gem that allows you to experience an oceanfront stay!

We go to this place every New Year's. The only thing great about it is to view When You check in and the beautiful view with the bar. When we got there, we found out that was all under Construction which was not Told to us at the time of our reservations. But the gentleman checking us in said we're going to give you two drink tickets, They do that every time we check in. The only thing is you have to go to the restaurant to get your Drink. Where they had a view partially closed up as well. And the drink of the day. Is the only thing you could get. Some kind of punch. Thank God we had reservations for dinner elsewhere. After dinner we went to enjoy the fire pit. With glass of wine then. At 10 o'clock we were told it was closed that we had to go back to our rooms. HAPPY NEW YEAR

This place wins the award for best FALSE ADVERTISING. The pictures online are completely different from what the rooms actually look like… deceiving. Our room carpet was stained looked like from 1952, the windows were dirty, the heater didn’t work, the electric outlets were falling apart. They told us the hotel was under construction when we got there and we never received any notice about this before. Be prepared for construction noise and dust everywhere bright and early. For the price they’re advertising these rooms, we’ve never felt more robbed. There was even a pregnant lady and her husband crying at the check-in also trying to get their money back for this Monterey shack charging like if it was the Ritz Carlton. Comparing it to the Motel 6 would be generous.

We stayed 2 nights here and I can definitely tell you that the rooms are not worth $350 a night (we had the ocean view) of their location right on the beach.PLUS resort fees (I wouldn't call this place a resort and for the fees they charge here they should have nicer equipment for their guest) and parking! Yes you have to pay (about $30) to park your car. The lobby was nice and had a stylish fireplace to lounge. Did not visit any of the restaurants or bars there. Every staff member we saw said hello to us. Front desk was very nice, helpful and accommodating. THE ROOMS ARE DEFINITELY DATED AND NEED A LOT OF TOUCHING UP. The rooms here were old and dated and NOT worth what they charge. The only reason they get away with it is because of their location being right on the beach.. The ventilatiotion vent in the bathroom was very dirty. Paint was peeling near the bathtub corner where it meets the floor. Nothing premium about any of the dates furniture in the rooms. The map they provide you with is a bit small and hard to read the wording and the layout wasn't exactly easy to navigate. This place reminded me of a dated motel 6. It's a shame that they charge so much for the rooms and walking in your asking yourself I paid how much for this?

Great location, love that you can walk directly on to the beach just yards away from your room. Rooms are ok, wished they had a microwave in the rooms. Prices are a little on the high side and they don't provide complimentary breakfast or coffee (they have small coffee pot in the room I wouldn't use). Also look for hidden fees like parking $20. Great place for walking on the beach. We always find ourselves going back once a year. Also is dog friendly 🐶

I stayed for 2 nights, I was not advised or did I see anywhere on their page that there is CONSTRUCTION happening. My room was in the construction zone , so it sounded like we were surrounded by construction noises. The shower heads were rusty. My door latch did not work. They couldn't switch me rooms because they were at capacity. Next morning immediately went down stairs to get a room change. And my trip went from being a negative experience to a wonderful one. My room was quite, no rusties in the shower, and my door actually latched!! Felt so much safer traveling as a widower with 2 young children. I hated the first night being there but really loved the 2nd night. I would definitely book again when there's no more construction going on

The location is great but the hotel was dated and it going through renovations so next year it will be way better. Everyone was so nice and friendly at the hotel but like I said it was under construction so it wasn’t the best place to stay. Will be back once the renovations are complete and will get second floor or higher! The first floor it’s hard to see the waves from your room. The waves are loud so the first night throw me off because I normally like the sound of waves but I feel like these were more intense than normal

had a beautiful view of the ocean, but the room was so tiny and disgusting, and the carpets felt wet, and the room smelled moldy. people were partying and screaming on the ocean from 12am-2am, so my family didn't sleep during that time, nor did other families that also went outside their room to check and see what was happening. requested another room that was hopefully cleaner but none available. expected 2 beds but got 1 bed and only allowed 1 pull out bed as a family of 4.. there's also a parking fee we didn't know about until arrival. maybe go when it is renovated to save your money. not worth 1k for 3 nights!!

May have a good view. That's all it has ,place is falling apart. I was looking for a nice relaxing time at the beach. There was a party outside my door till 2am. When I chose the room it said it was ocean front and a view. The first floor is party front from sunset to 2 am . If you are so lucky to get a room under the lobby you get to hear the sliding of the chairs on the tile floor, sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard. Was not what I was looking for. I arrived 30 min. before time to check in, they charged me $50 for the 30 min. One night total cost was 540.00 don't do it , stay at Holiday Inn Express and just go to the state park on the beach. Find a Airbnb.

Definitely avoid if you can. Came here on my honeymoon and they offered to have us as an oceanfront view? Great! Problem number one is we were given a key and upon walking to our room, found out they were actively working on our door lock so we had to wait for 10 minutes to even get access to the room. Then once we got in? There was a nonoperational light switch and the ac control on the wall wasn't working, turns out it's a tiny button on the wall way inside the room and the control panel was only from the ac. The final kicker was shutting the door only to be locked in our room unable to get out. Had to call the front desk and they took their sweet time coming to let us out. We should have left when the couple next door to us Said they had been without water the most of the day but we checked our and will.not be back. Absolutely crazy. It's such a shame cause it's a nice view too

Rooms are a little old, but this place rocks. At times, it was super noisy, but having the beach right outside my window was priceless. We ate dinner in the restaurant and the views were spectacular. Service was good, food was alright. We totally enjoyed our time here.

It's a beautiful hotel in a great place. The place is clean and the staff is nice. You can even hear the ocean at night. There is only one problem that can be nothing, minor, or huge depending on your neighbors. The walls are THIN. You can hear EVERYTHING that is happening in the next room.

  • 4/5 Renee S. 8 months ago on Google
Words can't express the view from this hotel ask for a ocean front room. I see updates they are making and the front desk said in Oct they are renovating. Had a hiccup with the room process but it was immediately taken care of by a nice gentleman. Restaurant and bar was a nice touch. It was 60 degrees so I sat by the sea and the next day the fog came out and the picture of the bay was marvelous

Ok, So There is a mix of reviews on this place. For what you pay for it is definitely not worth it. The rooms are out dated. They're website compared to what you actually stay in are 2 different things. It was very disappointing. The view, however, is amazing. You are literally on the ocean. It says no smoking,We smelled everything from cigarette smoke to marijuana smoke. room 224 never stay there. Everybody seem to want to stop there. Argue be loud, be obnoxious and stay on their cell phones Forever,to the point, we had to get up and ask them to move along. The staff were pretty cool, though. The restaurant so/so The coffee was ok. Again, this is just my opinion It is absolutely not worth the money. Would we go back? Absolutely not.....

The location is awesome but the hotel is seriously run down. Lobby area only nice space. Rooms are dark and seriously run down. Carpet was wet and room smelled like a locker room. Linen was dirty and towels where dingy and looked like the last time they where replaced was 10 years ago. For over $600 a night I expected a bit more. Grounds are also poorly maintained stuff falling apart. Honestly a shame because the location is ideal.

  • 2/5 L N. 8 months ago on Google
The hotel is more like a motel with doors opening to the outside. There were people smoking right outside our room. They don't enforce smoking laws. The rooms are old and worn and need updating or a thorough cleaning. The location by the beach is nice but about 15 minutes from downtown Monterey. The front desk gentleman took far too long to serve guests because he was too busy joking with everyone despite the long line. Only one elevator was working.

  • 2/5 Vanessa 8 months ago on Google
Our room had mold behind the door from floor to ceiling so we were moved to another room, which the next morning while showering I noticed the ceiling in there had mold all the way around 🙄 the carpets need a good shampoo done to them, within the first 5 minutes of being there my 22 month Olds feet were completely black 🤢 I didn't dare put my 8 month old down to crawl. The lobby is super nice but the room was very disappointing. Not sure I'd stay here again

Overall beautiful view , we stayed in room 254 which overlooked the beach , but the room wasn’t as nice as I thought it’d be. The actual bed itself or maybe the linen on the side of the bed was stained , which was pretty disgusting. Thought the rooms would be nicer…. Especially for that price

My husband and I stayed here over the weekend and we had a great time. The lounge area is really beautiful with amazing views, a fireplace, chairs and couches to look out at the ocean, and a cute little bar area. It is modern and peaceful. The actual hotel rooms arent great. I did find a few things I was unhappy with. Upon arriving, there was someone's dirty underwear on the top shelf of the closet, (disgusting!!) the lighting in the room is awful. I couldn't do my makeup in the bathroom because it gave such a weird glare so I had to open the window and do my makeup at the table. The water pressure in the shower is so bad. It took forever to wash my hair because it was so weak. There is no microwave and it just seems very outdated. (Really old light switches and chipped paint.) The outdoor courtyard area is great. Fire pits, and lots of chairs to sit and watch the waves. I ordered room service for breakfast and it was fine. Nothing spectacular. I got the pancakes and fruit plate. There was a good variety of fruit on it and the pancakes were about average. It did only take about 15 minutes to arrive so that was a plus We went to the restaurant upstairs for dinner. I ordered the king salmon. It was good but wasn't my favorite. The sauce didn't have enough flavor so I wouldn't order that again. My husband said the burger was delicious. Overall, I'm not totally sure how I feel about this hotel. The fact that it is right on the beach is awesome but the dirty underwear and terrible lighting really bothered me.

The location of the hotel was great. I wish they would clean the room daily and provide the guest fresh towels daily, we have to actually asked for it. The rooms also don't have no microwave to heat up our food. After checking out I got a notification that my credit card got charged additional payment for a pet cleaning fee which was weird because we didn't have any. I had to call the hotel and dispute the charges.

Excellent Hotel, restaurant, and bar right the beach. Excellent prices, amenities and service. Buy a kite, firewood and s’more kit and take a yoga class. Pool is clean and heated with a jacuzzi. In room coffee, fridge and safe. Pics I’ve posted say the same. I saved a hundred a night for no beach view. The garden area and pool area was fine with me as I didn’t stay smack dab on the beach to stay in my room. Worth it! Did I mention it’s dog friendly and clean. Free electric vehicle charger with paid parking. Someone is always sweeping the sand inside and hallways outside as well as washing the pool jacuzzi area twice daily. I was impressed and will definitely stay there again.

The room I booked was on the first floor, which means that any visitor or guest who was at the fire pits could see directly into my room, unless I closed the blinds fully, in which case there was no longer access to the “ocean view” that made the room $400+ per night. More importantly, as a solo traveler, the most critical factor to lodging is safety. Unfortunately, my room did not have a working dead bolt. The first night, I slept so terribly because I knew that there was a security risk to anyone who might see me in there along, and break in (surrounding area is a bit gritty). In addition, the room is already dimly lit, but one of the lamps did not work. So as soon as the blinds had to be closed, I was in the semi-dark. The second day, I tried to ask the front desk for maintenance support to fix my dead bolt. The maintenance guy was making light and laughing a bit at my nervous attitude about the door, and said he could not fix it at that time. I asked the front desk for another other room, this was past 8pm, they had a room that was not yet checking in, and front desk did not allow me to switch to that room. I spent the second day in that hotel but it really ruined my vacation mood. Not being to get a restful night of sleep for fear of personal safety is absolutely insane, given the bill came out to be $950. I sincerely regret staying here and wasting my money, and am seeking a refund, but not sure that will be granted.

Very hard to find a better location facing the beach directly. The rooms are certainly dated and while it was not our experience, expect a late(r) check-in based on what I see other guests tell me. Plenty of parking, lots of way to access the beach and amazing views. We stayed a couple of nights and I guess you have to ask for fresh tools or someone to clean the room, otherwise they will skip you. Service desk is friendly and the bar gets overwhelmed during happy hour although they do give you some drink coupons.

Embarrassing and abysmal professionalism. I've been trying for days to get in contact with somebody for the sales supervisor's name and email to no avail. Two weeks ago we held a celebration of life for my father. The outside contractor we originally worked with for the event was wonderful, but once she was no longer working with the hotel everything went terribly. My new hotel contact, Michelle Brown, didn't read the contract, had a complacent attitude, and wanted my family to pay an extra $3,000 for services we didn't need or want. When we arrived to set up for the event, we were told that we couldn't enter the room because no managers were on site to open it, even though we'd been told we could arrive at that specific time to do our setup. There were no signs in the lobby for the event as promised, which confused our grieving guests. The elevators were down, and the staff handled it awfully, allowing my blind grandmother, stroke victim grandfather, and my other disabled grandmother fumble around confused without knowing where to go. Absolutely miserable. For a beachfront hotel in one of the most desired places in the US, this was all completely unacceptable. Someone had better see this review and reach out because I've been calling all week and nobody answers the phone at this hotel. Do not do business with this hotel, you will regret it.

What a superb location! I had a ground floor ocean room. While you can’t quite see the water when you’re lying on your bed, if you stand up you can see the ocean. The room was big and comfortable but it’s the ability to walk out your room, sit on the deck and look at the ocean. There is plenty of parking and the lobby has amazing views! Nice staff and good amenities.

Really enjoyed our stay here! It is so close to the beach, falling asleep with beach waves was priceless! Rooms are nice and clean, just wish they had a microwave. They also have a very nice bar and very cozy restaurant in the hotel which was great because we didn’t have to go anywhere and just relaxed. Jacuzzi and Pool are also very nice. For some reason, a sauna (I think it was a sauna) was closed, but we still loved it. They are dog friendly, and even have water and treats for your doggy. I also want to thank the person that was at the door giving us directions and opening the door all the time. He was so very nice to us, very friendly and helpful! Just a suggestion:please tell your guests that you charge for parking. We didn’t look immediately, and when we saw that additional fee on a receipt, it was a surprise. Otherwise, everything was great! Already recommended to my parents and they are coming. Would come again!

Booked this hotel for an annual trip to Monterey for Thanksgiving. Photos online made the property seem well kept, and honestly the lobby and some other rooms looked nice that I could see while walking around. The pet room we were given though had torn carpet with many stains, the light in the room didn't seem to work and the room was just very small, like cruise ship small. Also they advertised "access to our pet park" when booking a pet package and when we asked where the dog park was we were told they don't have one and that there is some grass in the parking lot for a pet relief area.

Great view, excellent service, friendly employees. The view and closeness to the sea was what makes the Hotel one of the best I've stayed at. The rooms were clean and tidy. There's a pool that was comfortable temperature, even a jacuzzi that was also a good hot temperature. There was also cornhole setup for guests. From the bar you can look out at the water and enjoy the view. You can also take your drink outside and sit on a little deck to enjoy the sound of the ocean while you sip on the drink of the day. All in all, it was a nice experience, I would definitely stay here again if I have a reason to be out this way again.
