EL CHIPIRON is a refreshing highlight in a sometimes challenging part of the city. Although it is very busy and a reservation highly recommended, the 3 females (cook, waitress, allrounder) are well organized, friendly, and very efficient. The seafood is fresh, abundant, and of delicious taste. Restrooms are clean and regularly checked. 🌹 An Uruguayan jewel in Montevideo.

A place right next to the food market where the locals have lunch. The seafood is so good we came back the next day to do it all over again. The service is excellent and the locals love to talk to you. Go here!

A small hole in the wall featuring good portions of fresh fish served by friendly people. I've only been once but I greatly enjoyed a well priced lunch of simply prepared fresh ingredients.

We came for lunch and wanted some grilled fish. Our server was lovely and explained that they had three choices for the grilled "fish of the day". We chose two different types, and both were tasty and came in generous portion sizes. Both dishes came with potatoes so we did not need to order any side dishes (although they were available). We also had two beers - one of which was non alcoholic. It is good that this restaurant offers this option.

This is a tiny, family run restaurant across from the Mercado Del Puerto. It has a yummy ‘catch of the day’ section, and is simply, but deliciously done. The daily desserts they offer are also simple but so, so good. If you’re in the area checking out the Mercado, it might be more worthwhile to swap it in for some seafood given the touristy prices of the Mercado.

After some very meat-heavy days in Buenos Aires we started our time in Uruguay with some lighter - and absolutely delicious - seafood. 👌🏼🤤 My Spanish is not quite good enough to understand everything they offer, so at some point I just kept saying YES to what she was asking… Luckily, I eat everything and everything they served was absolutely delicious, so it seemed as if I couldn’t have gone wrong anyways. 😁 After being chased through the Mercado del Puerto where all tables wer empty and everything looked more like a setup for tourists, hence, this place caught our eyes because it was pretty much a “hole in the wall” kinda place, so we went to explore it and never regretted that decision. 👍🏼

Small family run restaurant with wonderful fresh fish and salads. It’s tucked away from the large and busy Mercado. The staff are helpful and friendly.

I don’t think 5 stars is enough to such beautiful, welcoming and kind place. I’ve been going since 2017 mostly on Sundays where it’s a bit busier after a well deserved walk between antiques in Feria de Tristan Narvaja. The food is delicious, the staff is beyond the moon, absolutely all my respects to such an incredible chef that handles to deliver everything in a reasonable time being just one person!!! It’s a cozy welcoming place, do not expect a high end restaurant. This is unique, you are a very special guest instead of just a number. Let’s embrace places like these, where you are welcomed and treated with love and respect. The same respect they have to treat each element of your selected dish. I will always recommend it, and people who go are really satisfied. If you are doubting on what to chose, note that the daily recommendations are the best. White wine is always chill and goes very well with the food, and dessert, well they are just delicious. If you go on weekends, remember to make a reservation. It’s important - at least for me - to mention this is a business owned and managed by women. Which makes it even more special.
