Food was great. Service was funny and helpful and truly amazing.

Wonderful place. The meat was good, the service was good and the atmosphere was outstanding in a little outdated fashion, but very charming. There are some tourists coming by but most are locals visiting. It is a little more expensive then other similar restaurants but they are open on a Monday.

Great food, very generous portions!!! You better be hungry. I suggest you split one main course between 2 people, it is a lot , a lot of food! 😅😃. Tried the Asado de tira with green salad and wine by the glass (Local Tannat) and the next day I tried the baby beef with baked sweet potato and regular potato with blue cheese. Their service is really good, staff are very welcoming and attentive to requests. I highly recommend it and would come back if I am back in Montevideo. PS: prices can be a little high but the quality is worth it.

Very good food and service. I had the local beer (Patricia) served extra cold was very good. They had good meat and fish. I had the flounder and I recommend it. My friends had meat (the tomahawk steak) and it was also very good.

Horrible overpriced experience. You can get better meat in MVD for much less. We ordered an expensive parrilla that should be enough for 4 (the waiter said so) but we left the place hungry and ate real food somewhere else. Not recommended

This is a truly fine restaurant with an exceptional menu. My friend and I shared one of the parrilla platters for two. It could have easily fed three. We were so satisfied with our meal. It was crowded, but not overly noisy for the size of the place. Our waiter was gracias and had a keen sense of humor and wit. My hat goes off to all of you who make El Fagon my favorite restaurant in Montevideo.

The waiters take forever to come to your table, it's not their fault though they need more employees. The meat is very pricey, and it doesn't come with anything but a slice of sweet potato. Rice, salad, or mashed potatoes would have been nice. I ordered a crème brûlée in the end, and that was excellent. Congratulations to the cook.

The staff was friendly. the service was good and they provided our group with a very nice table. The wine was good, but then the food was extremely dissapoiting, not just for me but for almost everyone of our group. The price for this bad quality food was completely out of proportion and I am sure none of us will ever return.

We were visiting from the United States and loved the food and service at El Fogón. Uruguayans eat very late compared to the United States so if you are there between 6 and 8 it will be very empty. People started coming in at 8:30 and between 9 and 10 the place was totally full! We had the Paella one night and steak another night. Both of them were delicious and they have a wide variety of foods. They have an authentic open Uruguayan kitchen with the many meats on the grill. Whether you want to try Asada, steak, pasta, or the fabulous wine, El Fogón offers a lovely atmosphere and excellent service. This has been our favorite restaurant!

Those guys do not display their menu with price ... They do give a QR code to access the menu from the street but they do not give access to WiFi with it (I have no data here as it seems local network has incompatibilities with foreign phones...) So I gave up despite the good reviews... If you want customers, informing them about the price in advance is key. I always consider hidden price as being "we will give you a different price depending how you look like or which language you speak" and would never enter such a place as there is no way to know ...

I recently dined at a restaurant that I would describe as average. The food was quite mediocre, nothing particularly memorable. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the good service from the staff; they were attentive and courteous throughout the meal. The atmosphere in the restaurant was also quite nice, creating a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience. While the food may not have been outstanding, the service and ambiance added a positive note to the overall dining experience.

Superb. The best traditional restaurant in quality, service, ambiente. It was a pleasure for me to be your guest. Great. It’s not a restaurant, it’s Montevideo. Love it. Thanks a lot.

Great assado, super nice staff and environment. We had the dinner menu for 2 and for less than 50$ we both had salad, lots of meat, drink and desert.

Baby beef Angus was terrible, extremely chewy and ordered medium one part was basically raw. Lemonade was exceptional. Green salad was huge amount of raw onion over some lettuce.

El Fogón is cozy downtown Montevideo restaurant where you rub shoulders with locals who come here to eat Sunday lunch. In one week, restaurant will celebrate 60th anniversary!! We did not have reservation and had to wait a bit - it was Sunday late afternoon and place was packed. Food is simple but delicious, our choice was baby beef & beef tenderloin, large salad and bottle of El Fogon tinto. We had tiramisu & apple pie for desert and espresso was the best we had in Montevideo. Service was excellent, despite restaurant being fully booked. July 10th is Father’s Day in Uruguay so I got a present🙂a bottle of wine from the house! I had a small mishap that fortunately ended well. When it was time to pay I could not find my wallet. I had spare credit card but my primary credit card and some other documents along with some cash were in the lost wallet. I was trying to remember where was the last time I used it and concluded I must have lost it on our way to the restaurant. However as last resort I asked our waiter Walter if someone perhaps found a wallet in the restaurant. Walter went to the bar and sure thing, someone found it lying on the ground and gave it to restaurant staff for safekeeping, I had lost it on my way to the restroom. Needless to say everything was there. I was understandably very happy and thankful but Walter explained this is normal for Uruguay, it is a small country, people are proud, honest and kind and will always help. I don’t know if and when we will be back in Uruguay, but if we do, we will definitely eat in El Fogon and we hope to see Walter again! Walter, te debo un gran favor. Muchas Gracias!

One of the best steak restaurants around. We got this place recommended by local crew and they told us what the best meat dish was.. it was not on the englisch menu but is was on the local. And it was great!

Enjoyed the ambience, attentive service, and wonderful flavors. We had chorizo, provolone queso with roquefort, baby beef, and sole parmesan. All very good.

Place is kind of beautiful and very well located. Food is just Okay. Service is slow... Overall, if you're in downtown and want to grab some food it could be a option.

Really disappointing. As a single guest I got a table at a corner with a lot of waiter traffic. I had the Menu Classico and the asado and chichulines were tough, no matambre. The riñones were excellent, the chorizo dry. I didn’t have wine (included 7in the price) but water, no desert but asked for a potato instead and was charged extra for those. A rip-off.

The food was okay, the waiter rolled his eyes when my wife ordered pasta. Fully old School grill. Nice enough that we’re not going to be rushing back

All the way from SudAfrica, muy Bueno! Despite the lackof Spanish we were very welcomed and felt part of the familia! A worth while visit!

The best meat I had in all south America - and I have been in a lot of meat places. Really good meat! And it was nice to have a bit of vegetables on the side.

🫤 Not as good as the Google rating. Fried fish is OK, very basic food. Nothing special here. Service was good. The seating is very poor quality and not as nice as pictured, unfortunately as it is near the water but with no water views.
