This is actually the museum of La Cumparista. Before Palacio Salvo was built, the original site was a local music bar. The author of La Cumparista was Gerardo Matos Rodríguez, who played his music here in this bar for the first time. La Cumparista has been the symbol of tango since then. Back then there was no woman allowed in the bar. The name originates from Spanish word comparisa. -sta means small. It should be Comparista. But he wrote it as Cumparista. This is probably due to the Cocoliche language, a mixture of Spanish and Italian. Anyway this is a good museum to visit.

(Translated by Google) It should be called "Museo de la Cumparsita" because it is only displayed on that tango, the name is misleading. In addition it does not have so many tangible resources to be called "museum." Because of the location it has and with such a name one expects much more from this proposal.

(Translated by Google) It is not a museum. It is a small room with a guy going from one wall to another telling the story of the tango "la cumparsita". It's not worth the price, it's not even worth the time.

(Translated by Google) The museum is small and the visit is short, but it is worth it for those who like tango and are interested in Uruguayan culture. In addition, the trip to the museum takes the visitor to the place where "La Cumparsita", the anthem of all tangos, was supposed to be performed for the first time. There are also cheap wines for sale and some souvenirs (these are very expensive). It is a good way to enjoy Ciudade Vieja.

(Translated by Google) More than a museum, it is a space decorated like a small room where the tango orchestras played and where La Cumparsita premiered. The "tour" is really short, about 15 minutes, and although the guide is friendly and has a good attitude, it is a bit disappointing. On Sunday, it is one of the few things to do in Montevideo, so if you have about 150 pesos left over, you can take a walk to listen to a very short and well-told story.

(Translated by Google) Very interesting visit and contact with the culture of tango under the prism of Uruguayans. The museum is small but the historical location, the richness of the details and the explanation of the excellent guide make up for it. Do not expect anything of the wine tasting offered in the package, it is a chalice of a Tannat of dubious quality, baptized with the name of the Tango.

(Translated by Google) I do not recommend! A disappointment. It does not deserve to be called a "Tango" museum, because in reality it is restricted to a single song "La cumparsita". In fact, it is not worthy of being called a "museum", it is a small thematic room. The guided tour is finished in 15 minutes. It is not worth the price (150 Uruguayan pesos - about 20 reais).

There was then La Giralda. Today it keeps a complete heritage of the composer and other invaluable treasures of the history of tango. It is worth doing the guided tour. They also teach there and there are dinner shows. Visiting the musium is allowed only for 20 min and inside of it there was only one small room to see. The staff said in the tour English is spoken so I took it. The staff gave me a little explanation of the tango history but she did not speak English well and also didn't have experience of tango dance. For me it's like a joke. I was so disappointed because the musium was the reason why I went to monte video. Not much to see, not much to know, no worth visiting here.
