Another historical architectural gem for book and coffee lovers to spend hours and hours and hours in. Massive amount of books to browse, great artwork and food. I discovered aioli here and haven’t stopped making it since! A little pricey, but worth it for the ambiance and great service. Dulce de leche flan to die for!

Bookstore, gourmet shop and garden restaurant --- a popular Montevideo institution of sorts for feeding the mind and body. Whether a visitor to the city or a resident Escaramuza is a wonderful place to have a meal with friends and family, browse an extensive inventory of books for all ages, and/or pick up some (not low calorie) goodies. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian offerings on the menu (not sure about vegan).

The bookstore was a surprise in the way to Mercado Ferrando! I recommend that you have lunch at Mercado Ferrando - Escaramuza also have a place for lunch on the inside - and grab a coffee with cake at cafe store. Important thing: Escaramuza also have a inside garden but only for clients who asks for lunch at restaurant. The cafe store that have inside only sells ToGo.

A gorgeous bookstore that is well-worth the trip. While most of the book titles are in Spanish, one can still go to enjoy the decorations, the garden, and the cafe. It's also cool to see a stained glass ceiling. The staff are very friendly and welcoming

Wonderful café and restaurant with dreamy back yard. Escaramuza is an excellent bookstore. The setting will make book lovers swoon, tall ceilings, original wooden doors, mosaic floors. Step into the past in this beautifully renovated house and browse away.

Such an amazing place, the yard is beautiful and cozy and the food is delicious. The prices are fair, we got water and freshly baked bread with a delicious garlic dip as a starter for free. The waiters are super friendly. 100% will come back here!!

This is a cute bookshop with a very nice restaurant & café! We enjoyed a milanese with salad and their falafel vegetarian option with some beer. We finished our lunch with an Espresso and a luscious carrot cake (and a choco cake..) serve by the same attentive and courteous staff. I highly recommend them when in the city.

Lovely little cafe tucked away in a stunning building. We decided to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful patio. Service was quick, food was yummy, and the vibe was very relaxing. Highly recommend the pressed juices and taking a peek around the book store after you finish your meal.

This place is really amazing! The bookshop is beautiful with a lot of choice and good books. Then you can have breakfast or simply take a coffee. The terrace is beautiful and the prices are not too high!

A wonderful place and ambiance to have lunch or tea. Small lunch portions but flavorful. Service is good. The tea hour 3-9PM provides an ample opportunity to try the pastries and deserts. Highly recommend!

Plenty of books to browse and great cafeteria. Usually quite crowded on the weekends but worth the wait.

The nicest café I have been to my entire time in the city. Slightly pricier than most of the other cafés but I think that the atmosphere, quality of food and drink, and nice staff make the pricing difference you have to pay worth it.

Excellent place to go - books and coffee - what a dream! Beautiful patio and very good food and drinks. Such a charmful place that it makes it easy to decide to return. Even when its busy - the staff jot your name down and kindly find you while you pass the time getting lost in their book collection.
