👍 Amazing waterfall! Parking lot is fairly small, mostly mud and dirt save for a few pull-off spots; so if you have a small car you may be better off finding a parking spot along the road. There's an overlook with natural seating about a mile from the start, but the three trails are set up for one-way... People often mention hike, trail, waterfall, view, trails, small,

Amazing waterfall! Parking lot is fairly small, mostly mud and dirt save for a few pull-off spots; so if you have a small car you may be better off finding a parking spot along the road. There's an overlook with natural seating about a mile from the start, but the three trails are set up for one-way which adds a bit of length to the otherwise short walk. Definitely recommend checking out, especially after heavy rain! Be careful at the overlook though, it's fairly flat but has a pretty steep drop-off.

Really nice park, did all the trails. Pretty well maintained. The back trails past old structures and more likely to come across some friendly deer. Nothing to difficult to hike and lots of great forest to walk through. The water view is far off as we are atop one of the edges of the gorge. It is a long fall down for the water. Its a shame that is as close as you can get and it isnt a clear cut view but understand with the terrain and the fact its a nature conservancy. Was the only car there when parked at 2pm and only car when I got back.

ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL HIKE! Right now the entire conservatory is one way due to COVID restrictions. I hiked up the Red trail for a bit and then the yellow trail. Started out Beautiful with lush greenery and some small blooms. The trail doves down into the gorge and down by the stream. some great mountain rapids here with a small off-shoot to the waters edge. Get ready because the climb back out is the hardest part of the trail. I took several breaks on the way back out. At the top I took the Red trail to the overlook. It's a drop-off overlooking the waterfall which is one of the tallest in VA. From there I doubled back to hit the Blue trail which is a great way stroll through the mountains. Along the way it goes through what I've been told from the locals as all old slave settlement. There are remnants of log cabins that scatter throughout with a small cemetery. The trail is a very easy hike back down to join the Red trail and back to the parking lot. This is my new favorite!

A few different trails that are all calm. It's nothing too special I would recommend driving far to hike. The views are scenic once you get by the river (small section of the way). I wonder if there's places to swim once it gets warmer? The main view is the waterfall. A little disappointing from so far away. ....I don't think it's legal to encourage anyone to climb down to the base of the falls... ....but if you do find an excusable reason to be there, I feel like it's about a 300-400ft descent. Steep, but not necessarily steep enough you "need" a rope. It is very dangerous and you risk serious injury/death. Also, trespassing? The slope is covered in several inches of loose dirt and debris. If you slip, grab for the nearest tree. The climb back up sucks too. About 30-60mins. The world needs more accessible waterfalls.

Well maintained and beautiful waterfall hike. I took the red trail in and out. It was an easy/moderate 1 1/2 hour, 3 1/2 mile hike. There is very limited parking. Maybe room for 10 cars.

Very beautiful hike. The trails are well marked and easily accessible. I would rate this as an intermediate hike considering in some spots of the hike you have to be careful. Best overall hike I've done in some time. I highly recommend it if you haven't been.

This is a privately owned park, so don't expect it to be perfectly maintained. There are a number of downed trees across path, and they've been there for a while. Otherwise, it's not a difficult hike, and it's well-marked. I went at 8 a.m. on a Saturday in July, and I saw only one couple, headed in at 9:30. The parking lot was empty besides their car and mine. The view of the waterfall at the end was underwhelming. The falls were taller than I expected, and nearly vertical, but very distant and on the other side of a valley. The view from the overlook at the end of the trail is not at all panoramic. The hike itself was great. There were more conifers than I expected to see, and lots of rhododendron. On the yellow-blazed trail, there are cool stone stairs and access to a fun, rocky spot to wade on the river or sit on a rock and read. On the blue-blazed trail, you might notice a hundred-year old graveyard.

Nice trails, narrow in some places. With the advent of COVID-19 much of the trail system here is one-way, so be advised the shortest round-trip is a little bit longer (~2.3 miles vs 1.6).

Beautiful hike. We had the park to ourselves. The trails are very well marked. Unfortunately, the payoff view at the end was very disappointing. The view to the waterfall was a substantial distance and the water volume (November) was nominal. Listed as the 2nd highest waterfall in Virginia, we travelled there expressly for the view. You will be let down with the view of the waterfall, but the gorgeous scenery and solitude are definitely worth the trip.

No dogs? Seriously? I love this hike but l strongly dislike not being able to take my dog. It may have to do with the conservancy aspect of the property. Aside from that, this hike is beautiful. The trails are well-maintained and the view is lovely. Not too difficult so it’s nice to share with beginners.

Well marked trails with "one way" route encouraged by signage to allow for distancing from other hikers. Beautiful creekside section as well as views of a gorgeous waterfall.

This was gorgeous. I will definitely be returning. I would suggest downloading a map for navigating to here as we had no service while here. Simply breathtaking and we went at a perfect time of year (mid/late October)

Beautiful hike with a view across the valley of a great waterfall. Be slightly warned that the hike in may be a little longer than you think depending on where you park (it's a long entrance road). But worth it.
