Visit to this museum gave me a good walk through of the Scindia lineage and I had a good insight on their history. The museum is filled with antique stuff used by this family, the living room, the dining room, and the collection of guns swords where very interesting. The one which caught my undivided attention is the huge enormous party hall with a long dining table which has a train track running on top of it. The entry charges 300 rupees ticket per adult and it's it's worth the money. Also, if you are coming by cab, do not allow the cab to enter the parking area because the entry into the parking area is charged so you can. It's it's not a big difference of distance to cover by walk

The museum has a collection of over 10,000 objects, including paintings, sculptures, jewelry, furniture, and weapons. The collection is divided into several sections, including: The Durbar Hall, which is the main reception hall of the palace. The hall is decorated with marble pillars, chandeliers, and a large mirror. The State Rooms, which are the private apartments of the Scindia family. The rooms are decorated with period furniture, paintings, and textiles. The Armoury, which houses a collection of swords, daggers, and other weapons. The Treasury, which houses a collection of jewelry, coins, and other precious objects. The Museum of Natural History, which has a collection of animal specimens, including skeletons, taxidermy mounts, and fossils. A great place to learn about the history of the Scindia dynasty and the culture of Gwalior.

A well maintained and well kept museum, this place is amazing and must view. It is recommended to take your time and go through ech display. Loved the way how history is well preserved and presented. Some of the things that really stand out are - Silver Train on Dining Table, World's heaviest pair of Chandelier, Carpet with Images of World Kings and Rulers, the Durbar Hall beautifully decorated with gold furnishings, and Napoleon Table. The entry fee is 300 rupees per Indian person. Phone are only allowed, handbags needs to be deposited in lock and key.

Scindia Museum is one of the best palace in India. As other palaces, some portion of the palace is used by Scindia Family as residence and some part has been converted into a museum. But the ticket Price was so hefty..It was 300 for Indian and 850 for foreigners, which is not a good thing.. they should have think about poor people too who can't afford this entry fee..But the palace is very well maintained. The interiors, the furniture, the artifacts.. everything is in excellent condition. Photography is allowed and you don't have to pay seperately for photography. Darbar hall and the chandelier is the main attraction of the palace. Opening time is 10 am and it is closed on Mondays and on Dushhera and on some other important festivals. You need at most 1 and a half hour to cover each and every room of this museum. A must visit place in Gwalior. Have a look on my photos, you will get the idea of this place that how beautiful it is..

The museum is very well maintained. But there are few negatives 1) high priced tickets 300/- for anyone over 5 years. 2) no facility for lift 3) Toilets not maintained properly

The Jai Vilas Museum is a large palace situated in the heart of Gwalior. Owned by the Royal Scindia family, this Museum documents the whole life of the Scindia family tree right from 1800s. All their artefacts and belongings are kept here for public display. The grand chandelier and the food serving train is also available for public viewing. One part of the museum is the Scindia residence. Tickets are Rs 300.

One of the famous and historical place in Gwalior. All things are good and well kept to see the history of India and Scindia Family. Despite of all the good things but the ticket price is overpriced, it is 300rs per person. There is water station available and bathrooms too. The bathroom is in old style so you get to use it 😁. Frankly speaking not worth 300rs to visit this place. But it is my personal opinion it might be different for others. Good for photography and photoshoot. Good place for family and children.

Beautiful, well kept palace museum. The products are kept in sucha a way that anyone can pick and steal them. Need better security and surveillance. Many agents keep roaming the palace which is a discomfort. But a must visit place in Gwalior.

Special thanks to our Guide Mr. Parul for giving such a great tour and going in details and lengths to explain about the objects as well as history of Scindias. It takes between 1.5 to 2.5 hours depending on how crowded it is to see the museum. Of course you can spend more time if you wish. It's mainly the history of Scindia family and their heritage objects in display like special gifts etc.

The Jai Vilas Mahal, also known as the Jai Vilas Palace, is a nineteenth century palace in Gwalior, India. It was built in 1874 by Jayajirao Scindia, the Maharaja of Gwalior in the British Raj. While the major part of the palace is now the "Jiwajirao Scindia Museum" which opened to the public in 1964, a part of it is still the residence of some of his descendants.

HH Maharaja Sir Jiwaji museum is very well maintained museum which is maintained by the royal family of Gwalior . The ticket price is 300 which is for all places inside the jai vilas palace. Though I would recommend to hire a guide to take you around the museum.

Than the entrance fee which is around Rs 800 per person, everything was good. Since it is a privately owned by the Scindias it’s little costly. The way the portion of the palace which is open to public is maintained, it justifies the fees. In the other portion, the royal family resides. The banquet hall and other area are utilised for royal function and when high level dignitaries visit. We went there during the year end. It was all well lit and decked up. They allowed visitors for extended hours, well into the evening, otherwise entry is not allowed after 5pm. I can say it’s a must visit place in Gwalior.

Must visit when in Gwalior ...Entry fees is Rs 300 per person and one has to deposit any bags/ belongings in the locker before entering. Guides are also available for you and will charge 250 rupees for a 1.5 to 2 hour tour of the place. The museum houses the world's largest chandeliers which was the best attraction for me !! Overall a really nice place to visit 😊

Well maintained, well situated museum. Though tickets prices are pretty high, @300 per person, compared to any other museum or archaeological spot. Plus you need to leave your bags, ladies purse etc in locker provided there. Once you enter the museum slowly you sink in with the royalty and beauty. Clothes, crockery, cutlery, kitchen room, tiger room, armoury etc widely spread in large area.

It took us 2 hours approx to cover this place but to be honest, I found newly made Digital meseum of gwalior better than this . Also Rs. 300 for the ticket is in pricey side and it's not exceptionally well made or something. You can visit this if you have lot of time but not on priority basis. You are allowed to take photos in the premises but not videos. Bags have to be deposited in the lockers provided ( free of cost) I preferred Baijtal lake , Italian garden in evening , digital meseum, gwalior fort over this for sure. The Google map location for HH maharaja sir Scindia meseum takes you to the entry which is shut down ( black gate - refer picture uploaded) . The actual entry is from the lane near To Taj Usha Kiran hotel .

A grandeur you have to see to believe. Take your time. Try not to hurry through it. And it will be worth your while. 2 points, cameras beyond Mobile phones are not allowed. And laptop bags too. So you can plan accordingly.

Very well maintained museum. Has more than adequate staff. Is not only a chronicle of the Scindias over the past centuries but also a homage to the various greats and their Maharanis. Some personalities do dwarf the others. I thoroughly enjoyed revisiting a bygone era. Missed seeing the famous chandeliers due to their being under maintenance. The royal nursery displayed that all parents have the same aspirations. The puja ghar dedicated to Lord Krishna is both spectacular and peaceful. Takes about 2 hours . The museum is closed on Mondays. Staff is reluctant to hand over the suggestion book. On prodding , handed over a complaint book not understanding that suggestions are meant to be positive inputs. The ladies toilet and corridor leading to it needs attention. Poor plumbing and drainage harms the building

The palace is huge and beautiful. Must visit place in Gwalior. It requires a ticket to see the museum cost rupees 300/person. This palace consists of Scindia's wardrobe , rooms , suits , war head , guns , raths , pistol , ancient sculptures and ancient dinings. And the most eye catching part is the indian darbar , pooja room , palanquin and raja's visitor's and friends room.

The museum gives an interesting insight into the lifestyle of a powerful princely family. Portraits of the family, its family tree and its flags and insignia, dominate the foyer atop the flight of the steps from the entrance. There are also trophies of the Princes' hunting parties and a gallery of old sculptures. At the other end of the foyer there is a stairway that leads up past an indoor swimming pool to halls with a private breakfast room, dining rooms, offices, rooms with Chippendale furniture, carved blackwood furniture and the living wing of the tiny Chinkoo Raja. The Chinese room is a room with an intricate stained-glass window. A descending flight of stairs leads to a court with a crystal fountain and the royal coaches. There is another section which holds the formal western-style as well as a formal Indian-style dining room. The is also an enormous reception area with a coffered and painted ceiling, two huge crystal chandeliers weighing three and a half tons each. To make certain that the roof could take their weight, a one kilometer ramp was built so that eight elephants could amble up and stand on the roof above. The roof held: the chandeliers were hung! On the furniture, the mouldings, the decorations on the coffered ceilings, picture frames, everywhere where good-taste dictated that it could be used, gold glittered. Five hundred and sixty kilograms of gold leaf were used in this Palace.
