Balsams is a series of cabins in the woods behind a motel off highway 2 just past St Ignace. We booked our cabin via Airbnb. These cabins are quite old, maybe even 100 years old. They are very cute and are updated to have modern kitchens and bathrooms. They are in the woods so there are lots of trees and shade. The cabins are somewhat close together but far enough apart to still have some privacy. There was a creek behind our cabin. There is a private beach across the highway that is nice but nothing spectacular. Our cabin had a modern gas heater which kept the place very warm. It has two very small bedrooms that were fine for us. The cabins are fairly rustic. The floor in our cabin tilted a bit to the side and there were a few other small quirks. Overall, it was a very comfortable place to stay. It was more or less like camping without being in a tent or trailer. This place is just to the west of St Ignace so it's close to a whole bunch of things to do. If you want to stay in the St Ignace area, you can hardly go wrong with this place.

A most unique getaway from the norm. Quaint cabins, beautiful trails and a step back in time with the rustic atmosphere. Our favorite place to stay in St. Ignace.

Worked for a company that did work on these cabins. The owner, or one of the owners(it's family owned, and it shows), gave me and my fiance a free weekend stay. We stayed in the motel up front as the cabins were full, and we absolutely loved it. The room was super clean and cozy, and the lady who gave us the room was really really nice. I'll never forget sitting out front at night looking at that lamppost glowing, and hearing the waves crashing on the shore. The nature trails can be treacherous after a while, but the cedar roots offer good steps, and it's worth the hike.

We love this place. Great people, great staff and an awesome view of wonderful Lake Michigan. The pics don't do it justice, I think it was cloudy that day.

Just outside of St ignace, super quiet and quaint. All the essentials needed, including short walk to Lake Michigan. I spent more time at the lake then I even anticipated. Super awesome weather to match. Pizza also delivers, nothing beats being in seclusion yet close enough to essentials. Super easy check-in (airbnb booking), it's older cabin and rustic vibes!

We stayed in cabin 6 and the owner is a delight to deal with. She was very agreeable to our uncertainty if we would be bringing our dog. This is a very pet friendly place! I loved the serene and peaceful setting and it made you want to just stay and not do any sightseeing. The view of Lake Michigan across the road is a plus too. Beach access too! You can’t see it from cabin 6 but we are next to a river. St Ignace is close enough to do food or shopping. These rustic cabins in the woods make you feel like you have gone back in time. I wish we weren’t going places so much as I would just love to sit outside and savor the moment. I hope we can stay again. A wonderful experience in our cozy and clean cabin!
