We stumbled across The Anou Cooperative whilst checking out the Clock Cafe next door. What a wonderful find. We were very lucky to have arrived during an English lesson for some of the artisan members of the cooperative. We got to chat to them and understand the mission behind Anou - to empower the artisans by providing them with the means to connect directly to customers. These include the website that offers custom ordering and international shipping. The pricing model means beautiful, high quality products that are very good value. We left with a number of balls of their lovely wool - hand died on the premises. There is far too much to detail about Anou to capture in one review but if you are in Fes you should visit and if you are not find them online.

Amazing mission! Really cool store front to visit and see the work that the women artisans are doing. Compared to other things in Morocco I found Anou to be much higher quality and competitive prices. Highly recommend visiting and buying amazing products.

Beautiful, knowledgeable and ethical place to find out more about the tradition of carpet weaving. You can talk to the women who make them and learn from them. This is absolutely not your average medina carpet shop!!! You'll find the most beautiful carpets, friendly people, workshops in the near future, and above all this place will go way beyond the beauty of just the product and highlight the tradition, knowledge, craft and chances for anyone involved in making them. Check @the.anou on insta ;)

We had the best experience ever going to the Anou. They were not only extremely patient but also quite helpful in helping us choose rugs. They are a cooperative helping artisans and they are also quite sustainable. Definitely recommend coming to the Anou to learn more about the weaving process and to admire the lovely designs. The quality is superior to most places and their prices are really fair. What is best is that you get to meet some of the artisans who made the crafts and know that they’re being treated fairly. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, definitely the highlight of our Fes visit.

I had an absolutely wonderful experience during my residency at Anou! The place is truly marvelous, and the artisans I worked with were incredibly talented and inspiring, and for sure, lovely! I had the opportunity to learn and be part in all process of carpet weaving and it was a transformative experience. The dedication and skill of the artisans were evident in every thread they wove. It was amazing to witness their attention to detail and the passion and ❤️ they put into their craft. The Anou is not just a place, it's a community (to be honest a family) that creativity and empowers women artisans. The support and guidance provided to them is exceptional, and it's heartwarming to see how this platform uplifts and promotes their incredible work. I would love to highlight Kenza for taking the time to teach me each part of the process and being so kind and caring to tell me her story and teach me with a lot of love and patience. Also the love and care that Dan dedicated during my stay. it was exceptional. It was a pleasure see him in action with job every day with the Artisans :) I highly recommend The Anou to anyone seeking an authentic and meaningful experience ✨💙. It is a place where creativity thrives and connections are made. My time there was unforgettable, and I left with a deep appreciation for the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into every handmade creation. Thank you, to Kenza, Dan and Hamza, for providing such a fantastic opportunity and for supporting the incredible artisans of Morocco. Keep up the amazing work! #TheAnou #ArtisanCrafts #ResidencyExperience #MoroccanArtistry #HandmadeCreations

I had a great customer experience! Anou is a cooperation that does a wonderful job. To my knowledge, it is the only cooperation where the sale is made directly from the seller to the buyer, so no exploitation. The craftsmen (and women!) are paid the price of their efforts, and that is honorable!

Absolutely loved exploring this, it’s a gem in the old medina. Would highly recommend you check out the items they have, some of the prettiest rugs I’ve seen and most importantly all of the price goes to the artisans that made them which is vital. Plus they have the coolest wool wall.

Amazing initiative supporting Moroccan female artisans! Run directly by artisans, it removes the middle man from the process. We knew we wanted to buy a carpet but were intimidated by the bargaining process and potential to be ripped/sold something of low quality. Then we found Anou, the workshop is beautiful, prices are clearly stated, and we were left to look around and make our selection in peace. Everything can be custom made to your tastes which is what we ended up doing. Amazing experience and we were happy to know that we were directly supporting local artisans!

Working with @the.anou to get our custom rug of their artisan’s design was one of the most moving experiences we’ve had with our life with beautiful handmade objects. Communicating throughout and getting to see their process was an extraordinary privilege. 🧡 The artisans we worked with are the Association Tadighoust in Goulmima, Morocco and through @the.anou they keep 100% of the price of their objects.

Such a lovely shop with stunning, ethical carpets, cushion covers and gifts. All the women who work there are great and tell the story of the cooperative. Will definitely return!

The anou is a magical space! The artisans are truly hospitable, and the hand crafted carpets are amazing. I enjoyed touring the house and being in conversation with the people who created the craft I bought, which transforms the status quo/ experience when one does not even know the person behind the craft or how much they are making out of it. I loved how the space was run through a horizontal leadership structure with ethically sourced material 🌞 I recommend the Anou: products, people ans space!

Been there twice, a great atmosphere, the craftsmen can give you a tour and show you around the products and what they do. The showroom is amazing and the prices are affordable, the greatest thing about the anou is that you know for a fact that there are no middle men and that you do buy directly from the craftsmen and the benefits goes directly to them.

This is a wonderful place. This is the only place you can genuinely buy from artisans. Only buy from artisans endorsed by the Anou Cooperative otherwise you’re likely just supporting middlemen! So come visit, bring your questions for artisans, and support Morocco’s artisan community!

We live in England and just received our rug from Anou. Absolutely love the rug - it is great quality and beautiful. The whole process was great - we received regular updates from the women in the cooperative showing them making our rug and they made the rug pretty quickly. Delivery was also smooth - just make sure you are aware you'll probably have to pay import taxes separately. Would definitely use again.

We visited Cooperative Tizi Nougdal in the mountains outside Marrakech through the Anou. It was the highlight of our trip to Morocco and an absolute joy. We will remember this visit forever. Fatema and the other artists of the cooperative were so warm and kind, and taught us how to weave, taught us about their design process, gave us a beautiful tagine for lunch, and showed us their amazing pure wool rugs. The valley was jaw droppingly beautiful - we are so so glad we left Marrakech and saw the mountains. The weavers told us about their previous sales through middlemen and how they’d earn 50 euro for a rug that required 8 weeks work that would sell for 1000 euro. Through the Anou they receive the actual value of their pieces. We found the prices incredibly affordable but also fair to these women. There’s no haggling - all the rugs have prices set by the artists themselves and are tagged on the rugs. The Anou can also arrange shipping (which is all built into the online platform where you pay) but we chose to take ours home as additional luggage. We were able to pay for the rugs online so didn’t have the hassle of getting cash out. Our driver and translator Hassan was organised by the cooperative, and so was someone local that knew their families and grew up in their valley. He also was wonderful - he went above and beyond when we wanted to photograph the stunning Ourika valley, never brought us to tourist commission vendors, and was gentle and knowledgeable. We have these precious rugs at home now. They feel like nothing we’ve had before - they’re warmer, thicker, softer and more lush than any commercial synthetic or wool rug. We think of Rachida, Sara and Fatema making each knot by hand as I sit on these rugs.

The cooperative is located in a beautiful, minimalistic, and peaceful riad in the city centre, at the end of a side alley in the souk, where the ground floor is for the shop and the upper floors are for bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen... and a dying kitchen on the rooftop! I had a seven-day workshop at the cooperative, sleeping and sharing meal with the artisans, and learning how to dye yarns and how to weave a rug by hand on a wooden loom. The stay and the workshop were arranged via email with the guy who manages all the communications and the social networks and much more – a very helpful and nice person who gave me also insights on Morocco and suggested interesting readings to better understand their culture. A great experience with beautiful people that I strongly recommend!

I ordered a rug from the Anou artisans online and they did a FANTASTIC job. I cannot say enough about the beauty, quality, and uniqueness of the rug they made for me. Throughout the process, they sent photos and videos of their progress. It was really enjoyable to see the process and the piece they made will be with me for the rest of my life.

We had the absolute pleasure of meeting Naima and the skillful artists from Cooperative Fadel Tighedouine when we picked up our rug this November, (The Anou store# 115). Buying through The Anou is a unique journey that starts with knowing you’re supporting craftswomen and artists through fair trade. It was so much fun creating a rug with them, from readjusting the design through colorful sketches, to choosing the right colored wool. All while learning about their rich culture and ageless craft. The anticipation amplified with the daily pictures we received of the rug progress. By the time we met Naima and her team in Morocco, it felt like meeting friends. The rug is truly a work of art, and we are incredibly happy with it. Thank you, Naima, for making this rug and being a gracious host. And thank you, Hamza, for coordinating this project through The Anou.

Amazing showroom and shop of hand made carpets, I had a one week workshop with the artisans and could use their in house artist residence. Great experience of learning and sharing with these women weavers!

What an incredible initiative and interesting way to learn about crafts and artisans in Morocco! I would recommend a visit to Anou for every Fes visitor - and make sure to see the view from the roof. The Anou Cooperative is an important fair trade model and I enjoyed connecting with the artisans at the cooperative.

A beautiful day spent in the Anou, making creative mini-carpets with lovely artisans. A very nice and fun but challenging workshop that lets you realize just how much work the artisans do. It's just enormous ! A must if you ever in Fes.
