I had the misfortune of having to attend the ED on the evening of the 27th January 2023. Apart from the wonderful security staff who assisted me into a wheelchair, the rest of the staff were absolutely vile towards me. The Triage Nurse was probably one of the most un-empathic, uncaring rude Professional Nurse I have come across. She is a disgrace to her profession. The Reception/admin clerk was equally rude and abrasive towards me. I was acutely ill and as a medical professional myself, I knew the treatment required etc. After nearly 3 hours of being left vomiting in ED waiting room I was eventually seen by a Locum Dr. She asked a Nurse in the acute admissions to help me - this nurse refused. I was left on a bed with no blanket, no emesis bowl , and not a single observation was done on me. As a medical professional the very least one is required to do on a patient presenting with vomiting and extreme abdominal pain is Blood Pressure, Pulse, O2 Saturation and to commence an IV to replenish lost fluids. I asked this nurse for a blanket and she refused to provide me with one ! My husband asked the staff (who were all sitting at the nurses desk) for assistance and they ignored him. Eventually the locum Dr brought me a cup of water to drink as the nurse had refused when I asked for a drink. After a further 2 + hours whereby NOTHING was done to help me I chose to leave , thereby, taking a risk with my health.

They didn't care about what I said and I'm stuck at the hospital because my house is 2 hour walk away from the hospital and the head nurse said that she's not giving me a taxi voucher so I have to walk 2 hours in the rain I'm not happy with the service they provide and they always ignore the bell when you ring for assistance understand that they're overrun but at least treat a patient nicely ill die before I go Back there there again and now I have been bitten by a dog and can't walk and they are kicking me out in the rain and I can't walk 😭

Only rating one star because of one single worker. Rude staff member working in the A&E, refused to let me see my father who was by himself and brushed me off. Didn't even issue me a visitor tag while I was in the waiting room and had to wait until a lovely worker came asked issued me a visitor tag and asked me how they could help. I explained the situation and they helped me straight away and communicated what was going on. First lady seriously needs to reconsider her job if she can't treat people with just common decency. Felt very defeated and made to feel like an idiot for inquiring about my father's health.

In 2020 my father died of a pulmonary embolism precipitated by a failed oxygen cylinder on his way to an Xray for pneumonia. He did not know if his specialists in Adelaide had been contacted and our suggestions of a medivac flight to Adelaide were dismissed. A complaint won't bring him back, but he died an isolated and despairing death, prevented from speaking to his children alone, despite his pleadings. We can only hope he was offered religious support or was able to speak to a nurse, as unbeknown to us, he seemed to have been given something to settle his agitation. A totally confusing and traumatic experience.

This is one lovely hospital. Great staff and heaps of parking available all day. Caring nurses, I love this hospital because of the nurses in the maternity and neonatal ward 😍😍 Loved my obstetrician and midwife ☺ Sad to see the 2 stars, I lived in different states and in multiple places, this is one of the best hospitals with kind nurses and doctors 🤗

MOUNT GAMBIER A&E I went there at 7:30pm Tuesday night. Everything was fine, we waited 1.5 hours that’s ok 4 ambos come in while we waited! My problem was… we were put in a room in a&e ( son had possible covid but he’s breathing wasn’t well covid hot line were going to call ambulance) I drove him my self! We had treatment and doc said I’ll be back in an hour for more obs. Cool 2 hours come round I opened the door and there was a ladie there. Not a nurse but someone else. She said is everything ok? I said I think they have forgotten us. She said no there has been 4 tactic come in, I said oh ok I need to get home it’s 12:10 pm I need to drive home to penola and I start work at 5am… her words were… care factor 0. I looked at my 15 yr old son who was in hospital we were tired, and he was ready to sleep and I could hardly keep my eyes open. Yes I under stand these people work all night but the most likely sleep to work all night I don’t I get up at 5am and work and go to bed early. Anyway my reason for this post is…. They have posters every where saying respect staff don’t be rude to staff don’t be aggressive but… what about staff don’t be rude to patients. So to the lady in the RED scetches while working at a&e with people who are already stressed out have a bit of compassion and don’t be so RUDE!

It seems that most of the negative reviews about the Mount Gambier hospital are related to the emergency department, a situation common to hospitals worldwide, not a specific deficiency at Mt Gambier. I had a knee arthroscopy in day surgery yesterday (27/04), and was very VERY pleased with every aspect of my time there, from the ladies checking for Covid at the entrance, to the cleaners in the corridors, right through to my discharge. Receptionists, nurses, anaethetists, the excellent surgeon, the whole lot of 'em were beyond doubt damn good at their jobs. I'm 72, live in the bush, and this was my first hospital experience in Australia, and I was certainly not disappointed. WELL DONE MT GAMBIER HOSPITAL!!!!

Rude reception staff hung up on me 3 times. Lousy ultrasound service need to wait a month for appointment then they cancel and want to reschedule at stupid clock in the morning when you already explained that you need a later time.

My daughter presented with my 2 year old grandson. The nurse was good. The Pommy doctor needs to ship off back to England. Not attentive. Horrible attitude.

Went to Mt gambier hospital for day surgery. All the staff from front desk to anaesthetist to Dr Mculloch, and all the nurses and staff were fantastic. There were a couple of child patients there, and all the staff were going out of their way to make those children feel relaxed 😌and comfortable. Thanks to everyone. Great work. I hope south Australian government give them the support they deserve 👍

For PCR testing, they're really good here especially if you have young children or kids with special needs.

I had to go to the Mount Gambier Hospital for an infected wound. The nurses cared for me very well and the doctors took my treatment seriously; they drained the wound and dressed it and put me on necessary antibiotics and I was monitored overnight. Everyone at the hospital was caring and considerate and listened to my questions. When I was discharged I was offered to come back to get the wound dressed by nurses for free to check it, which I thought was very thorough and professional of the Hospital to ensure my recovery. There can be a slightly long wait time in the Emergency Department though, but this is no fault of the doctors or nurses; as they are over worked, it’s just an unfortunate nature of the overwhelmed health system. Be kind to the doctors and nurses here, as they are all doing their best and doing a great job.

I couldn't be happier with the service I was provided with. I recently had some relatively minor Day Surgery and after reading a series of negative reviews about the Mt Gambier Hospital I was both nervous and concerned about what to expect, should I cancel and move my procedure to another hospital? I was very pleasantly surprised with the fantastic staff and their care and concern during my short stay. It was a really bust day for surgery on that day and the staff, Nurses and visiting Surgeons & Specialists all worked brilliantly together under pressure and I felt very safe and well looked after. I understand that each day is different but I'm sure a little respect and patience on both sides of the fence really does make a difference. Thank you for taking such good care of me.
