Great place to watch the sunrise and to pet random dogs. I came around 5am and was able to enjoy the beach all to myself. Took some nice photos and then a quick nap. Woke up to the usual crowd and enjoyed swimming in the crashing waves. Definitely will return for more sunrises and I suggest you do too :) *photos taken on my awesome samsung*

The beach itself is pretty nice. It has a wide shore, shallow water entry, and excellent waves. There are some rocks and shell fragments in the sand, but not as many as at Manhattan Beach. Ideally, the sand should be cleaned to prevent anyone from cutting their feet. There are lifeguards available. Overall, we had a great time, but this is just a description of the natural surroundings. As for the restroom in this place, it's simply awful! Are you sure people are even allowed to go in there? It's unsanitary all the way. Why is there such indifference towards cleanliness? Can't they hire a cleaning?

Very nice beach with some basic restaurants & cafes for every 100 M but over price - No a lot of options - also Male / female restrooms every 100 M 🚻 clean & in good condition as all . About the beach , you must bring a large umbrella 🌂 & beach seats 💺 or something to sit on & sunglasses & sunprotection. ( Very V. important ) Otherwise you will spend a great time with your family or friends

Parking is terrible! But the facilities are clean... Beaches are clean and fairly empty. You can swim where there are life guards.. And they have lots of designated surfer areas only... Generally beaches that have the no swimming red flags and no lifeguards. Lots of places to grab a snack and drinks.

My bf took me there. It’s a surfer beach. Nice long trail walk, food, surfing store. I’ve never seeing so many black people in the water let alone them surfing. It was so cool. It inspired me to get in the water and wanting to surf. Super excited for the journey of becoming one of them. 🥰😍😘

One of the best beaches in NYC (if not the best). AND I LOVE THAT IT IS DOG FRIENDLY 🥰 It's a good place to surf, practice any sport, or just relax. The boardwalk is kept clean and there's good restaurants nearby. If you're interested in learning how to surf, just go over to Locals on the 69th st.

We just came here last weekend (Sept 25) so its already a bit chilly but still worth the visit. There’s no much people, so that means more peace. We tried to do fishing but ended up just getting 3 baby sharks (don’t worry we didn’t take it home, we put it back on the water). A lot of people doing surfing, wave is kinda strong so that’s the best time to surf! There’s a pizza place nearby, so it best to get some slices and bring it to the beach. The view is so perfect for some pizza! Hahaha. But please don’t leave your garbage/s, lets help maintain the cleanliness of the beach, so we can enjoy it longer (including the future generations!). Ohhh about the restroom? It was pretty clean! That’s the best thing!

Really nice to experience going to this beach but!!!! There wasn’t enough places to eat or get a drink, there just not enough activities or social places to go to in this beach

So accessible because of the NYC ferry from wall street. You can just go for a part of the day or stay all day long. Really clean beach and boardwalk with nice food options. The ferry ride makes it such a special treat.

Love this place. This is like a hidden treasure...a secret gem. The best way to experience Rockaway is by taking the NYC ferry. What an experience gliding by Bayridge and basking in the pocket of green in South Brooklyn. Then we cruised and got a glimpse of Coney Island in the far off projectory. It almost feels like you are cruising to Long Beach, CA. Rockaway is a clean beach with long strips of dunes paralleling the way. There are also some great beachy restaurants serving foreign foods like Edible Island. Great serene reprieve from the city. A little Cali in NY but with a little NY grit.

it is very pretty and there are nice things to collect. the rocks are very smooth and round and you can find some cool looking spiral shells. the sand is also very smooth and soft feeling. also very nice place to bike on the boardwalk and through the neighborhood. good beach to go and relax with by yourself or with family 🐚🚲

We had a great time here, the beach runs super long and the docks alongside it are perfect for biking. There's also a skate park right next to the boardwalk as well as a snack bar on the beach, which have a variety of different foods and drinks, alcoholic as well. Keep in mind that the beach is pretty crowded these days and it can be hard to get a good spot, especially if you've got a large group. But the water is clean and the views are great, so it's worth it if you can find a place to lay your towels on.

This beach is okay at times and good for Surfing. There's a lot of seaweed in the water and sometimes garbage. The best part is that you can travel by NYC Ferry then walk 2 blocks to the beach

Very nice and clean beach. Not insanely busy either (at least on a weekday afternoon). Nice day trip from Manhattan. Feels like you’re leaving NYC but you can easily get there via subway!

Rockaway Beach has been my go-to NYC Beach since I was a kid. Beautiful boardwalk, handball, and basketball courts. There is something for everyone. One warning is that this Beach has some of the strongest waves and you should be careful while swimming. Great place for a night walk/date.

Rockaway has zone swimming and surfing . We don't swim where they surf because it surfboard can hit a swimmer in the head not them unconscious and you can drown. Rockaways has high tide and undercurrent . So check sites for info before going

I haven’t been here in years but it looks cleaned up, lots of parks and recreation staff, garbage and recycling bins and life guards. There was also a large restrooms and a place for a quick bite that has indoor and outdoor space. It was remodeled really nice after hurricane Sandy.

The beach was beautiful. Only thing the shore line is shrinking. There was a time you had to practically walk 2 blocks length from the board walk to get to the ocean. Now as soon as you step on the sand you are a few feet from the ocean. Still a beautiful spot, board walk much nicer, clean, and every few blocks a rest station with snack bar. Be prepared to spend at least $60 for group of 4 the cheapest you find something to munch on cheese fries @ $8. But nothing beats packs a cooler with your homemade snacks.

Huge beach, half a mile wide at different places with the abandoned tuberculosis hospital right on the beach....Easy access with the subway. Neponsit is a very nice neighborhood, not sure how average people can afford to live there though.

I finally decided to go to Rockaway beach after a long hiatus. I was pleasantly surprised . I felt safe. The boardwalk / bathrooms were clean . There were ample parks personnel moving back and forth on their golf carts and “ safety” patrols were visible. There is ongoing construction on the beach at various locations. Some picture murals were erected along the entrance at beach 95-nice touch . A delightful stroll from beach 95th to beach 9th

Great for a all day getaway from the city. If you take the wall street ferry the boat ride is just as nice as the beach. Not many shopping options but there is a couple food places.

Not the best beach in New York but definitely the best beach in Queens. I recommend coming here at around 3pm. There is food trucks and music entertainment so you won’t get bored 4 hours until the Sun sets.

Fantastic Beach! This beach stretches several miles. It faces the Atlantic Ocean. The water may be calm or the waves may be large. Either way is truly a very beautiful place.

Such a wonderful beach to spend the day at. Ocean beaches are the best beaches. I love watching the waves roll in perfectly in sync and rhythm. Saw a school of dolphins recently and that was a real treat. Best seagulls around too. Very personable

I haven't been to this beach in years. I got there before 8am and left at about 11:30am today. It was cloudy and foggy out today but the water was great. Not a lot of people out at this time, which was amazing for my son and I. I was able to get some reading in while my little one played by the shore. Rockaway is so much cleaner. Only 20 mins away. Overall we had a great time.

Huge restaurant and bar on the bay side of Rockaway. Live music on Saturdays and good food. Our server was very attentive and friendly. Out burgers were cooked as requested. Wait for a table can be long, we went to the bar, got a drink and then listened to the live band until called an hour later. Nice place to join friends for a drink and eat. They don’t take reservations. Better to go early before sundown to enjoy the sunset!

I really didn't know much about Rockaway until my sister in law brought me. Today we went to the Poseidon Far Rockaway parade. We had such an amazing time getting the kid s dressed up and enjoying how this place came alive. The waves look rough but looks so fun and family friendly!

It's a nice beach, clean (water not so much) and has normal height wave for surfing. Lots of ppl and lifeguards around to keep everyone safe. The only thing bad abt this place is it's parking. You either book a spot or come early to find one.

Not a big fan of beach. But this park is better the coney island and it is a good beach to be at summer even though its too crowded. I went here during cold days and the view was amazing. Not much people but still you can enjoy the broadway walk.

I just came out here for my second time last night. It was not overly crowded for a Tuesday evening. There are some tolls that are due to access the parkways to get out here if you drive. The beach is beautiful. We walked down along the boardwalk. We grabbed a beer ($10 each) at an Open air restaurant along the way And sat down at some tables & watched the sunset together. I would definitely come out here again. Was enjoying myself too much to remember to take a picture :)

Interesting place. If you intend to go for a day, you don't really need a hotel. There are public washrooms to even shower by the beach and plenty of options to eat in the area. Just take the Metro line "A" to Rockaway Park and get off on 90 St-Holland.

  • 3/5 Michelle F. 3 years ago on Google
Enjoyed the beach until a few women started walking around topless. Nothing against topless women except I was there with my kids (as well as many other families). At that point we decided it was time to go
