A very busy but convenient stop on the N2 between Durban (500km est), East London (220km) and Port Elizabeth (540km). This stop allows you to refresh and fill up with fuel for your car and some needed refreshments for your body. Apart.from there always well stocked Shell select store, they also have Steers, Debonairs and KFC. As convenient and bustling as the place may be, keep your vigilance, there are occasional scammers and car signal jammers on the prowl. The garage seemed to have ramped up their interest in the safety of the area as I noted that petrol attendants also double up as temporary car guards during peak times.

I was very disappointed, on of the petrol attended refusing the check the tyre pressure while I'm pouring petrol and I was driving from home back to Joburg. It's an old guy told me straight that he won't. No more shell Ultra city.

The Shell in Mthatha is clean and has a lot of parking space. The petrol attendants are attentive and friendly. There are a few choices for meals. Toilets are clean. It is one of the best stops in Transkei.

Bad customer service from the petrol attendants,you lose even the little patience you have. I'm not happy as a customer but either than that it's clean and it's got most things you'd need while traveling.

I comment as a truck driver, when it comes to shower 🚿, I've waited for more then 45 minutes just to have a shower, since they got only one door to go through, until I quit, even to get tap water, it a problem.

Terrible counter service for coffee. The employee did not know how to use the register, nor did she know how to make the coffee. Absolutely tasteless coffee and terrible service.

It is a nice place to fill up and grab some refresher. Car wash is there too in case you need one since the next beautiful stop would be East London

The steers there is quite low on staff as a result the service becomes slow. Otherwise it's quite a nice place to stop and refill on your journey

One of the biggest filling stations in Umtata. Bus drop off (Grey hound etc). Has a motel for those on long distance road trips. Great service.

A convenient fill up station just at the edge of town. Excellent as a bypaas if u don't want to go through the busy town

Average garage. Breakfast at steers is quite decent. Good coffee is served at torrador stall.

Fake parking asistant forced us for ATM withdrawing and then stealth the money from account (card scamming). It was organized group of more people and they kept us under pressure for whole "stealing process". Do not pay here for parking and keep all your things secured!

I always stop here, my half way mark, still feel save to stop here and always friendly service at the Steers. My recommendations more trees / Palm trees to have a cooler look and effect...as this is one of the best Ultra Cities. Restrooms are very clean.

Chips are nice

The staff might be a bit lacking, but I’d definitely recommend stopping here as there’s not really anything as safe for quite a long time. Varied shops and okay bathrooms

Decent pitstop while road tripping

The shop looks amazing BUT the cashiers at the select shop needs serious customer service training. She just ignores you and while she is having a conversation with the other cashiers, she wont tell you to use the next cashier. And when i asked her what going on she tells me that she is busy... very very bad. Just because you dont have so much white customers does not mean you can treat them disrespectfully.
