We stopped by on our last day in Münich after Oktoberfest and we were not disappointed. Emanuel was amazing and we made sure to tell the hostess as well as himself. He made us feel so welcomed and comfortable and recommended a dish (although we knew what we wanted) We had the roasted pork dish with the potato dumpling and kraut and bacon salad. My partner had the sausage with kraft and mash. We took the leftovers home. The price was unbeatable, affordable and the quality of food was amazing 👏🏻 This restaurant is away from tourist parts so you get to dine with the locals. We still cannot stop talking about our experience and how sweet Emanuel was. Best wishes to him and the hostess working that night from Stephanie and Sam from the U.S.

Amazing from start to finish! Incredible traditional German food, with a exceptional service. We were offered an English menu straight away. Our food came out so quickly, full of flavour. Definitely a must visit while in Munich. Efgan was our waiter, he was so lovely and friendly. Best service we have had our whole trip!

I need to say that when I go to a biergarten I don’t really have high expectations, usually it’s something very tradicional with same dishes and environment overall. This one was definitely a very positive surprise. It hasn’t lost its roots, but they are quite creative with their dishes. The area outside is very pleasant and even the area inside has its creativity with very nice decoration on the big windows. Staff was also quite friendly, above my expectations, and even though it’s a bit further away from the tourist area I found them quite open to speak English when they notice that you’re not German native speaker. They also have menu in English if you ask for it.

This place is big and roomy, with dark wood paneling and Bavarian chintz decorating the walls. Voices will resonate and echo around this space, just like any other beerhall, so be prepared to shout to make yourself heard. Staff are friendly. There's fresh Paulaner beer on tap. The roast pork is divine. Good value, expertly made. Their take on the classical kaiserscharm I didn't like so much, it tasted a little bit stodgy.

Authentic German food with a wonderful atmosphere. Our waiter gave us a little riddle when we asked about if locals ate here. ‘You won’t see any tonight, but locals eat here all the time.’ What he meant was, Germans usually eat their larger meal at lunch, so by the time we arrived by dinner it was mostly tourists. Aside from this colorful anecdote, the food and service were amazing.

Nice and warm ambient in a residential area, out of crowded streets, the interiors are very typical Bavarian. The food offer respects the style and the quality is high. The service is also very good. I ordered the Knodel to taste and the cream cheese, all very delicious, if I have to find a something to say, I would ask to warm up the Bretzel gived with the cheese because it was cold and hard. Definitely to come back while visiting Munich, I recommend booking your table.

Food was great and service was even better. They were able to get us a seat at a shared table even though they were full and no reservation. It felt like a neighborhood spot but they spoke English and were very welcoming. Roast pork with dumpling and sauerkraut was really good, as was the sausages and sauerkraut on the Oktoberfest menu. 👍👍🍺

Recommended to us by a Munich native. Well worth a stop despite the ongoing renovations. I loved the ox steak..... really beefy. And the dumplings are absolute delicious dense gut bombs. Excellent, lederhosen wearing English speaking staff.

From the moment I set foot into the rustic embrace of Wirtshaus in der Au, I knew I was in for a treat. Tucked away in a charming Munich neighborhood, this authentic German restaurant has effortlessly combined the rich history of its setting with a warm, vibrant atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home. The sheer delight of the culinary journey at this place is hard to capture in words, but I will do my best. The food was simply sublime, mouthwatering, and each dish was an art piece carefully crafted with love and dedication. My companions and I found every meal to be exceptional and a testament to the authenticity and quality Wirtshaus in der Au prides itself on. I took a vegetarian route and ordered the Knödeltrio. Imagine three large, gnocchi-like balls each graced with an entirely different yet equally delectable sauce: a rich marinara, a fragrant pesto, and an intricately spiced curry. This dish was so appetizing and filling that despite my longing, I had to skip dessert, but I was left with a craving to relive the experience. An authentic German restaurant isn't complete without its beer, and Wirtshaus in der Au didn't disappoint. Their selection was impressive, but it's worth noting that the cocktails too were a joy to the palate. Whether you're a beer enthusiast or a cocktail lover, they've got you covered. The service was outstanding, a harmonious blend of professionalism and friendliness, adding to the warm and inviting ambiance of the place. Wirtshaus in der Au is more than just a restaurant; it's a culinary journey into the heart of German cuisine, where every dish is an homage to traditional recipes with a sophisticated twist. Whether you're a local or a visitor in Munich, I wholeheartedly recommend dining at this gem. Can't wait for my next visit!

This restaurant might be a bit of a walk from the main city area, but it is definitely a good place to head to if you're looking to get away from the crowd. I ordered the Bergfex (Bavarian duck and roast pork, with red cabbage, potato dumpling and bread dumpling), paired with a Russ'n (wheat beer with lemonade). The Bergfex had such amazing flavours, which I enjoyed a lot. Am personally not a fan of the potato and bread dumplings, but that's just me. A word of warning for first-time travellers in Germany - sitting outside is great, but there are also a lot of flies waiting to pounce on your food, and bees waiting to pounce on your beer, so this can get a bit annoying. Service was good too - the guy serving me constantly checked on me to find out if I was enjoying my meal. Definitely a place I would recommend!

My first night in Munich and had to go to closest Bavarian restaurant to my hotel. A pleasant short walk from Hilton. Since I was alone I was sat at the bar. This was a blessing since the bartender was great - both with service as well as advice. I got the Bergfex and it was a well portioned meal of various delicacies - duck, roast pork, dumplings to name a few. Bartender also recommended good Octoberfest specialty beer. I am definitely coming back - and stay at the bar!

It's a traditional Bavarian Restaurant with a Good Atmosphere and Delicious Bavarian dishes. Although they have very little or maybe no options for chicken lovers :(

Stephan, the mixologist that looked after us at the bar while we were having our meal was fantastic. He was engaging and very attentive to all our needs for the whole night. Despite being very busy with other duties, he managed to give us a lot of attention and recommendations for various drinks that we had ordered for the night I have no hesitation to recommend this restaurant for its food as well as its drink and service

A must visit if you are looking for bavarian cuisine that is not doing everything like everyone else. A bit of Innovation allows for a best-of from traditional food plus half the menu beeing vegetarian! High standard from kitchen to service. Only flaw is that you most likely need to order a table in advance.

Nice Bavarian-style restaurant close to Deutsches Museum. Food is a little expensive, but pretty good.

This restaurant is certified is a well kept gem, out of the way of the bustle and tourist trap of Marienplatz, you get really great food and at a great price We ordered off both the kids and adult menu, the food came quick and the quality was excellent. The beer and wine were also really good too The waiter was kind attentive and made sure everything was easy to understand Would love to come back, and recommend anyone who’s in Munich with kids, or just travelling to experience the local cuisine - head here

It is close to the river so, I recommend a long walk before the meal in order to build up an apetite. Once you get there, I went with friends when it was not crowded so we were able to book a table. If you go during the weekends you might need to reserve a table. The service was one of the best we received in Munich. The food was tasty and the beer hit the spot. The pork and duck is the way to go because you get the most variety and get to try the bread knodl and tasty sauces.

The venue is great, the atmosphere and service is very fast and efficent. I had their steak and the food was well presented and full of flavour "Well done Chef". Staff are dressed in uniform and menus come in both German and English as well as the waiter speaking both languages. The Hostess was fast, polite, well dressed and professional when showing all the guests to their seats. Please make sure to call and reserve your table as the facility fills up fast which i can understand from the Food quality and good management. Definitley a must if in Munich for dinner or breakfast.

Amazing friendly service and the food was spectacular! Would highly recommend the duck, the Schnitzel, as well as the trio of Knödel! They also have a great selection of beers to choose from.

Sitting outside was beautiful, festoon lighting. We sampled the 3 dumplings to share and the Bavarian steak. Both were delicious. Service was efficient and very polite. Though the location was a little out of our way, it was worth it to experience true Bavarian meals.

Amazing! The best meal we had in Munich. Service was amazing and they even sat us without a reservation. (We were on the fence about getting one and definitely will next time). Our server was so kind and had great recommendations. We will definitely be coming back on our next trip to Munich! P.S. Go for the duck and pork combo. Can’t go wrong.

This is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to in Germany! I celebrated my birthday here with family and friends and it was truly an amazing experience. The waiters and staff are super attentive and they really care about giving you a top-notch service. The food was incredible, and the portion sizes are good. Best of all, they celebrated my birthday with sparklers and got the entire restaurant to sing happy birthday! Vielen Dank Wirtshaus in der Au for making this day super special! :) Highly recommended for a traditional Bavarian dinner.

Found this restaurant on google maps and decided to check it out cause all the reviews were great. And let me tell you, they were completely right! The food was the best German food we’d had so far, and the service was great! We were so happy that we decided to go. Highly recommend it.

A very nice place to eat once you have done with the Deutsches Museum, it is far from the museum less than 10 minutes by foot. They have the possibility to eat in or out.

Best German restaurant in Munich! Great service and delicious food. The roast pork was really tender and the best part was their Knödel!! The best Knödel I’ve eaten in my life. It was so fluffy and soft. The size was perfect. They also got a nice refreshing watermelon basil lemonade! They only produce this in summer. I wish I can buy it in the supermarket. So good!! Will definitely recommend this place and come back for their Knödel.

Awesome food, really German full of flavors. Environment inside is rustic, staff all dressed up in traditional clothing. Fast service even though it was full.

The food was really great although a bit overpriced for two euro symbols in Google maps. E.g. the steak costed more than 25 euros. The staff spoke English and were really helpful and friendly.

We had breakfast. Scrambled eggs, König Ludwig plate and German pancakes with a mix of berry sauce. It was great! Even a bit much. I can recommend their unique lemonades (raspberry+rhubarb). The service was fast and friendly. Quality and freshness amazing.

We loved this place on our recent trip to Munich. The food, drinks, service, staff, and ambiance were awesome! We liked it so much we went there on several occasions for dinner. We liked everything we tried, from the Auer Brotzeitbrett´l, a starter that's made up of different meats and cheeses, to the salmon, duck, pork, and of course dumplings. We tried dessert one night, and the Gugelhupf (Bundt cake of Toblerone chocolate with raspberry sauce and yogurt ice cream) was excellent! Plus, they had Kellerbier. The staff is what made the difference as they were amazing. They were very kind, conversational, fun and attentive. We had a great time. Without a doubt, we will be back the next time we are in Munich, which will hopefully be for Oktoberfest 2022.

Food was pretty good & portions were massive. It was very busy and they managed to get the food out fairly quickly though so fair enough. It's good but I think the food was about the same as we had in other places so we'd probably go somewhere a bit less hectic if we had our time again.

Unique dishes with very different take on the traditional taste. Loved the dumplings and the shredded ox. Portion sizes are large and the staff is very helpful

Really nice place, for 2 or for a group of people. The food was served on time and for 14 people, at the same time. Very impressive for a big restaurant. I had the Simental steak, which was cooked medium rare as I asked. The waiter, Max, was very friendly and had a very good mood! We will for sure come back.

To put it briefly, one of the best meals we had while visiting southern Germany over two weeks. Of course the service was excellent and the menu had a nice mix. The food was delicious and I can definitely recommend their specialty Knödel.

100% recommended to visit when in Munich. Having been to Munich a number of times over the years and not managed to visit here, I got here this year and was not disappointed. During the Summer time, it is worth making sure to have a reservation due to the popularity of this restaurant. Service was excellent, the menu and quality of the meals was very good and Paulaner beer of course excellent. I was very happy to visit here and would definitely do next time in am in Munich. Thank you again!

If you would like to taste original dishes, this place is good for you! I liked the food (especially the goose) and the appetizers (I have to warn you, choose it if you like spicy and garlic taste). The waiters has been really helpful and kind.

Amazing restaurant in a less crowded neighbourhood. When we walked in, the place was rather packed but the reception was helpful in finding seats for 2. You could tell the place is local as they only had German menus and the entire decor was very typical Bavarian. We ordered the grilled pork with crust, Knödel and sauerkraut - and man it was such a good hearty lunch. Not to mention the staff were super attentive and made sure to speak in both English and German to us. Would give it 6/5 if I could! 🔥
