Good place for relaxing. Of course one of the most popular spots in colombo. Located eight in front of the CCC. Swan boat rides are available here for a reasonable price. The rides can be more enjoyable if the lake was clean. But unfortunately due to algal bloom which is caused mainly due to dumping excessive garbage to the lake the entire lake is green in colour and also the entire area is smelling bad when you ride the boat faster. A nice view of the lotus tower can be seen from the middle of the lake.

Situated in the middle of the centre of Colombo, Beira Lake is a beautiful location that softens the harshness of high-rise buildings which are taking over this part of the city. There's a walkway around the lake that will give you various perspectives over the beautiful flower islands and the distinctive architecture of the small Buddhist temple floating on the lake. The lake needs better maintenance.

Highly recommended to wash off the baiyaas. This lake was added to the history books in May 2022 as the lake in which all the Baiyas and Mainas were cleansed off their sins. They came from all directions but the unsuspecting baiyas were caught by surprise as the courageous citizens threw them into the lake! 5/5 Recommended for baths if visiting Colombo with 5000 rs, rice Packet and half a bottle.

A wonderful green space and water feature with plenty of wildlife. A great place for an early morning walk to enjoy the sights. Wonderful place for kids to see the animals around the lake and enjoy a ride on a swan. The temple and small island with the bridge walkway are enjoyable. I think the city could do more in terms of better maintenance, repairing the walk ways. My hat off and thanks to the wonderful ladies who are busy cleaning in the mornings. Thank you! Support the people of Sri Lanka!

Beira Lake is one of the most prominent landmarks in Colombo. It's located right at the center of the city and a perfect place that combines beauty and relaxation within the city limits. It is said that the lake used to be much bigger over a century ago, however as of present day, it has been scaled down to about 150 acres as a result of the rapid commercialization. According to the records, the lake has been created by Portuguese to protect their base during 1500s and then evolved to be a landmark during the British ruling and on. As of late, it became famous for a number of recreational activities, such as rowing and yachting. In conclusion, it could be said as a decent place for en evening walk or to relax within the city limits.

There are a number of major attractions that visitors can enjoy in Sri Lanka, and Beira Lake is one of them. A large number of visitors come to enjoy the serene atmosphere and have the most unforgettable time of their lives. It is also known as the top-notch picnic spot and is always crammed with people during the weekends. Colombo's most famous landmarks, Beira Lake is located in the mid of Sri Lanka's capital. It is also a well-known place to enjoy serene splendor within the city. Beira Lake covered an area of around 410 acres in the past, but with the fast commercialization of the zone, it has since been contracted to around 160 acres. There are numerous tales connected to the olden times of such tanks, several of which got fabricated by the monarchs. But, the Beira Lake, situated in the city of Colombo, got constructed for a completely different reason-and not by one of our early monarchs either. The lake's construction happened during the year 1521 by the Portuguese.

Beira lake boat ride from SLECC to Union place, which is good commuting method for people who travel by train from out of Colombo to offices. Anyone can take boat to union place and avoid office hour traffic congestion. Also boat services available for every 20mins from 7am to 6pm

Beira Lake is situated in the heart of Colombo and was built by the Portuguese. At the center of the lake is a small island and the lake itself is surrounded by a neat line of trees, making the Beira Lake a picture-perfect setting. The pathway around the lake, with its neat lawns and gigantic trees shading the glistening lake makes it a lovely place for leisurely stroll. Or you could paddle out on a swan-boat, cross the bridge to the Lover’s Island or pay a visit to the water-temple on the lake. The Beira Lake has a giant suspension bridge and crossing over it will take you to a tiny island abundant with flowers and trees and well-paved floors. The highlight of the Beira Lake, however is the Seema Malaka which is at the center of the lake. This temple is a tranquil spot for quite meditation and the surrounding lake, rows of Buddha statues and a stupa makes the Beira Lake exceptionally special.

This lake in Colombo is a really nice spot, both for the temple on the water and for the lovely ride on swan boats. You can rent one for 30 minuts and pedal on the water among many smily local people. The atmosphere is great and you will get a nice view of the city buildings surrounding the lake.

Another one of Colombo's most popular places to picnic, relax, and go boating or running is Bere Lake. This man-made lake (not to be confused with its larger neighbor, Beira Lake) is surrounded by a lot of green space, yet it's right in the middle of the city. The area is also filled with jogging paths, and it's a great place for running and biking. There are swan boats you can rent and paddle your way around the lake. There are some snack shops and a floating, fine dining restaurant. The restaurant is on a boat and floats around during a dinner cruise. Bere Lake has its own island (connected by a suspension footbridge). The island is a popular spot for couples to take romantic walks. Elsewhere in the lake, there's a small Buddhist temple (Gangarama Seema Malaka) set into the water on several piers. The lake is a great location to take photos, especially at night. You have a beautiful, outdoor environment with the skyline of Colombo as the backdrop

This Beire lake is an iconic landmark in Colombo. As for the future development proposals in government this area is going to be a recreational area with many functions. But today, due to the contamination of the water it makes an unbearable smell of dead fish. The relevant authorities should look further more attention to give a solution for this problem.

Beira lake had a Buddhist temple inside the lake. There are entry fees for entering the temple. And it has a boating service inside the which was not operational due to some technical issues on the third week of November. We have a bridge which connects the island located on the middle of the lake the bridge is little broken. Island is surrounded by trees with a nice breeze across good way to escape from the humidity of the city.

The Beira lake is situated in the heart of Colombo. Surrounded by sky rise apartments and malls, its just a lovely lake to walk around. There is a little bridge that you can take to walk over into the center and benches to sit and unwind. The walk around the lake is a good 2 km so its perfect for an evening run. There are also little peddle boats that you can rent and use in the lake. The Buddhist Temple is also accessible from here and makes a great visiting spot for tourists.

Beira Lake is a lake in the center of the city of Colombo in Sri Lanka. The lake is surrounded by many large businesses in the city. It initially occupied approximately 1.65 km2 (0.64 sq mi) of land 100 years ago and this has since been reduced to 0.65 km2 (0.25 sq mi) today due to various reasons. During the colonial era of the Portuguese, Dutch and the English the lake was used for a wide variety of purposes. It still retains its Portuguese name. It is connected to many intricate canals which provided an easy way of transporting goods within the city and suburban cities. The derivation of the name is uncertain, yet it was as recent as 1927 that ‘Beira Lake’ first appeared on maps. Before that, it was called the 'Colombo Lake' or just 'The Lake'. One idea is that it got its name from a Portuguese Engineer called 'Beira' who worked in constructing the lake[2] or from a Dutch Engineer called 'De Beer'. The idea of De Beer is supported by a granite plaque which was recovered from the sluice of the lake, inscribed "De Beer 1700". Other idea is that it got named from the word 'Beira', which in Portuguese meant the 'Bank or Edge of the Lake', Another idea is that it got from 'De Beer', which in Portuguese meant the 'Anchoring Point

Sri Lanka is undoubtedly a beautiful city, but commercialization has made its place in the country. Thus, resulting in overcrowded places and markets, but if you want to spend really peaceful time in Sri Lanka, then Beira Lake is the place for you. After that long and tiring shopping and travel if you want to sit calmly and relax your mind, then come to Beira Lake and have a boat ride there. You will feel as if all your tiredness and tension has gone. The lake is very beautiful as it has green water and also because of the lots of Ducks that remain in the water and appear in front of the visitors during the boat ride. One can even go with a paddle boat as they too are available for rent. This lake offers an overall peaceful experience to the visitors.

If there is one place where you can get the combined benefits of adventure, pilgrimage, picnic and fun, it is the Beira Lake. This is one of the hot tourist spots in Colombo as well. One can enjoy duck paddle boat rides on the lake. It is one of the famous places to visit in Colombo.. Location: Located quite close to the famous Gangaramaya Temple, Beira Lake offers an excellent view of the temple, especially in the evenings, when the temple is fully illuminated. Highlights: There is another temple right in the middle of the lake – Seema Malaka Temple. This temple contains lots of Buddhist statues and a few Hindu idols. Timings: The lake is open all through the year to enable visitors; however evenings are the best to come here to get a panoramic view of the temple. Price: Approximate price is 300 LKR however if you have paid for entry into the Gangaramaya temple, that will suffice here as well.

This lake gets its name from the era of Portuguese rule 100's of years ago, when it was a huge reservoir of more than 1.65sq km now reduced to only 0.65sq km due to multiple reasons. Situated right in the middle of Colombo, this lake gives a picturesque view of the surroundings. With all the big skyscrapers all around and the main financial hub of the town.

Beautiful to see at night and chime in for the call to prayer but the truth is , the lake can be improved and maintained better. The lake smells and is polluted with trash. I would not go on a romantic walk around or on a paddle boat with anyone from fear of awkward odor. Hence being beautiful at night. The surrounding area is also full of pollution. City Center is built near the lake. I'm surprised the high reviews of this destination because it's deceiving.

(Translated by Google) At that time, this lake was referred to the Beira Lake. Even in Colombo maps, Colombo Lake was also named Colombo Lake. No one knows exactly how this lake named Beira Lake. Some say that the Portuguese Beira (engineer) named the name of his engineer because of the main reason he was preparing to build the lake. Another is that De Beer, the Dutch engineer, broke the line. The words "Debber" on the boats are broken. Put together the elements of picnic, adventure and pilgrimage, and you have Beria Lake, one of the most beautiful tourist places in Colombo. Set in the heart of the city, Beria Lake sits in close proximity to the legendary Gangaramaya Temple, while a beautiful temple called Seema Makala temple graces the centre of the lake. The resident temple is furnished with beautiful idols of Buddhist and Hindu deities. Religious appeal aside, the lake is a popular haunt for birdwatchers and photographers, especially during the evenings when a spectacular sunset lights up the sky. Spanning nearly 160 acres, the lake is also famous for rowing and other activities.
