single
state.
In
1920
when
Gandhiji
passed
a
resolution
to
form
state
on
linguistic
basis
it
led
to
Samyukta
Maharashtra
Movement.
Lateron
after
1956,the
bone
of
content
was
Mumbai.There
was
dispute
in
joining
Mumbai
to
Maharashtra
or
to
Gujrat
or
make
it
an
Union
territory.Sanyukta
Maharashtra
means
Whole
Maharashtra
with
Mumbai.Sa
Ka
Patil
and
Moraraji
Desai
opposed
it
till
end
and
unfortunately
105
people
were
killed
in
this
movement.But
the
movement
won
due
to
their
martyrdom
and
great
unity
and
on
1st
May
1960
Sanyukta
Maharashtra
was
born!

Maharashtra
Smriti
Dalan
is
a
beautifully
crafted
Memorial
building,
located
at
Shivaji
Park
besides
Mayor
House
which
brings
all
this
history
alive
via
portraits,murals
and
exhibition.
The
exhibition
is
spread
on
total
three
floors
that
is
1)
Underground,
2)
Ground
floor
and
3)
first
floor.
Underground
Floor
The
underground
floor
exhibits
the
information
of
all
the
great
leaders
who
fought
this
movement
with
lots
of
heart
and
vigour
;such
as
Shripad
Dange,
Prabhodhankar
Thakare,
S.M.
Joshi,
Acharya
Atre
and
Senapati
Bapat.
Ground
Floor
The
ground
floor
have
information
on
origin
and
history
related
to
Samyukt
movement
via
rare
photos
.
You
get
transfeformed
into
that
era
and
sense
the
intensity
of
this
movement.
First
Floor
This
depicts
portraits
of
forts
of
Shivaji
Maharaj
and
murals
of
Ajantha
and
Elephanta
caves.
It
is
a
must
see
Smriti
Dalan
for
all
the
Mumbaikars,
Maharashtrian
and
all
Indians.
Its
open
from
11
pm
to
7
pm
daily
except
Sundays.
There
is
no
entry
fee
and
parking
and
washroom
facilities
are
available
.
you
can
take
snaps
and
its
fully
air
conditioned.
The
view
of
Mahatma
Gandhi
swimming
pool
backed
by
sea
and
sea
link
from
the
rear
balcony
is
just
awesome.
It
was
built
in
2010
and
I
visited
it
in
2019.Thats
why
am
writing
on
it
so
that
you
don't
miss
it.
