A must visit for understanding Unified Maharashtra movement. It's a 3 floor gallery of Maharashtra's history, glorious monuments, fantastic murals, aerial photographs. It gives an account of the 105 lives that were sacrificed in 1960 for creating a Samyukta Maharashtra long after India's independence. Plan for 2-3 hrs for the visit. Ample parking available within premises.

(Translated by Google) The best information about the United Maharashtra Movement can be found here. Next to it is the Swatantryaveer Savarkar National Monument. There you have to see the whole India map. The structures that convey the message of the unification of the state and the country are side by side. Awesome photo exhibition. (Translated by Google) You will find here the history of Mumbai's glorious history. The people who sacrificed for the formation of the United Maharashtra were awakened here. Along with this Darjean can be found in the pictures of Gadkis in Maharashtra. In the 60's, the details of the fighters and theirs can be seen from the picture. Memorial is nicely built. Fully air conditioned. Whole history of the state of Maharashtra is illustrated here... from its formation to its freedom fighters. although everything is in Marathi language only, the local language. So if you don't understand Marathi, you will need a translator. That's the only problem.

Samyukta Maharashtra Smriti Dalan Long back Maharashtra and Gujrat was a single state. In 1920 when Gandhiji passed a resolution to form state on linguistic basis it led to Samyukta Maharashtra Movement. Lateron after 1956,the bone of content was Mumbai. There was dispute in joining Mumbai to Maharashtra or to Gujrat or make it an Union territory.Sanyukta Maharashtra means Whole Maharashtra with Mumbai.Sa Ka Patil and Moraraji Desai opposed it till end and unfortunately 105 people were killed in this movement. But the movement won due to their martyrdom and great unity and on 1st May 1960 Sanyukta Maharashtra was born! Samyukta Maharashtra Smriti Dalan is a beautifully crafted Memorial building, located at Shivaji Park besides Mayor House which brings all this history alive via portraits, murals and exhibition. The exhibition is spread on total three floors that is 1) Underground, 2) Ground floor and 3) first floor. Underground Floor The underground floor exhibits the information of all the great leaders who fought this movement with lots of heart and vigour ;such as Shripad Dange, Prabhodhankar Thakare, S.M. Joshi, Acharya Atre and Senapati Bapat. Ground Floor The ground floor have information on origin and history related to Samyukt movement via rare photos . You get transfeformed into that era and sense the intensity of this movement. First Floor This depicts portraits of forts of Shivaji Maharaj and murals of Ajantha and Elephanta caves. It is a must see Smriti Dalan for all the Mumbaikars, Maharashtrian and all Indians. Its open from 11 pm to 7 pm daily except Sundays. There is no entry fee and parking and washroom facilities are available . you can take snaps and its fully air conditioned. The view of Mahatma Gandhi swimming pool backed by sea and sea link from the rear balcony is just awesome. It was built in 2010 and I visited it in 2019.Thats why am writing on it so that you don't miss it. PS Also show the proud history to our gen next as it will make all Indians proud for our culture and heritage via excellent paintings, portraits and murals. @Dr.Vijay Athalye.2019.
